Mid-Season Harvest Festivals

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

Prompt
With so many inhabitants of Tendaji still working the lands, it's common that a festival or party is held to celebrate the transition to a new season. With summer in swing, it's about time to celebrate again. This transition goes from cultivating the land to full-harvest, so many hold celebrations to thank the gods for rain, earth, and successful growth of their plants.

Be it on Tendaji where the Earthlings celebrate thanks for their crops and land, or the Aishans thank their great mothers for prosperous hunts, or even Kahikinan where they celebrate a transition from the heavy rain season, all of Tendaji has reason to gather during the summer months.

[ For this prompt, find someone to celebrate a the change of a season wherever your character is. If your character is alone, now is a great time to consider the transition of the season versus the transition of your life. ]

The crackling of a bonfire could be heard through the trees. Along the shoreline groups of Alkidike gathered alongside their families and close friends to celebrate the successful hunts of the season. It was a beautiful sight to behold with the groups dancing and relaxing along the pale, white shores of Chibale. The sun was lowering along the horizon it's rays a mixture of deep scarlet, amber and indigo that blended together along the shimmering surface of the waters. Several Alkidikes actually brought instruments and playful melodies of drums and flutes floated through the forest. Danika lingered along the shadows, her lips curved upwards into a smile as she wistfully watched from afar. While she had given prayers to Aisha at the start of the celebrations the young mystic had been pulled away for duties again. Now that things were settled she hesitated to join the crowds and found herself simply watching instead.

It was a blessing from Aisha that they could enjoy such times. No wars, no dark creatures lurking at the edges of the forest....just peace. Danika let out a small sigh of contentment at the thought. Tonight she could just relax and listen to the music and enjoy the laughter of the Sisters as they celebrated the changing seasons. Even if she could not fully participate this was enough. As long as everyone is happy. She mused with a nod as she settled down on a stray rock jutting from the sands.

The mid-season festival was one of Vermina's favorites. The seasons had warmed, the early harvests had produced delicious crops, and there was still more to look forward to with the fall harvests to come. A celebration of what they had and was was still to be. Contentment and hope.

Well, mostly content! A radaku had decided to invite itself to the party and had caused a little havoc after helping itself to some of the feast. Vermina had been tasked with guiding the beast away. Quietly relieved to be able to step away from the fuss, she took her time returning the radaku back toward the stables.

On her way, she saw a lone figure sitting a bit away from the festival. Well, it was on her way~ "Danika?" she asked once she was close enough to see in the fading light. Why would she be out here on her own? "Are you well?"

The radaku snorted with pleasure and licked its chops to retrieve any remaining taste from its daring venture.

Danika found herself listening to the melody of a familiar hunting tune. The mystic was almost lost in the music when the approach of another took her by surprise. "Oh?" Blinking she gazed upwards and could not help the smile that spread across her face at the sight of her friend. "I am well indeed." She replied quietly with a nod. "I'm just enjoying the festivities from afar. I spoke the prayer and led the thanks to Aisha and now I'm simply enjoying the music." She felt guilty to not fully admitting the truth. But how could she express that she was wary of making others feel reserved when they should be celebrating and not worrying about the presence of a mystic? The pressures to keep to her own role as well instead of just letting loose made staying to the shadows a far better option in Danika's humble opinion. At least she had managed to see Vermina tonight after all. The thought made a flush blossom across her cheeks before she found herself distracted by a sudden noise.

Danika let out a soft laugh as she spotted the radaku. She definitely had not been expecting to see Vermina with such a companion tonight. "I see you have company for the festival?" She asked with a slight grin as she glanced away from the radaku and back towards Vermina.

Seeing that smile only gave Vermina's mood that much more of a boost. She looked back over her shoulder toward the flickering lights and nodded. "It is wonderful to watch everyone," she murmured wistfully.

Gaze shifting the to radaku, she chuckled and shook her head. "Just temporarily. She decided to help herself to part of the feast, so I offered to escort her back to the stalls." She patted the radaku's head and smiled bashfully. "To be honest, I am glad for a reason to step away. The festival is wonderful, but it can be a little chaotic as well. Sometimes, the view from outside is more enjoyable."

That gave Vermina an idea, though she hesitated to say anything. Her gaze shifted between the fires and the mystic before she let out a breath. After all, they were friends. "Sometimes.. the view from above is better, as well. Would you like to join me? I just need to drop her off, and then I can show you another spot to watch the festival from where you will be able to see everything." Her free hand rose to bashfully grip a coiled lock of hair. "It is alright if you prefer to stay here though," she quickly added on.

Danika chuckled. "So I see. I do not blame her because the food was truly delicious." She had briefly stayed long enough to steal a few bites before disappearing away from the festivities. Every bite had melted in her mouth, the flavors created by various spices warming both her tongue and her spirit. Her gaze softened at Vermina's words, the guilt she felt from stepping away suddenly abating at the observation. Sometimes it truly was more enjoyable to simply watch from afar rather than getting caught in the midst of things. Whether Vermina understood the depth of her words or not the gesture was deeply appreciated by Danika. It made her feel much more comfortable with her decision to stay away instead of being at the center of the festivities.

But surely even Vermina would want to venture back towards the party eventually, right? Danika felt her spirit drop at the thought before Vermina's words brought a smile back to her lips. Yet she hesitated as she pondered the offer in her mind and was not quick enough to answer before Vermina seemingly pulled away from the idea. "No!" She managed quickly before flushing slightly at her outburst. "I mean please don't think that I would...decline an offer to spend time with you." She managed quietly, her own hands twisting in her lap as she glanced thoughtfully from Vermina and back to the bonfires and the silhouettes of the Alkidikes gathered along the beach. She had played her role earlier and everyone was caught up in the celebrations so surely....surely she could go. Her decision made, Danika pulled herself up from the rock and brushed her skirts free of any sands. "I will gladly visit this spot and see the view with you, Vermina." She nodded with a grin as she stood next to the other Alkidike. "Feel free to lead the way."

It took all Vermina had to not flinch away from the sudden denial, immediately thinking it was her offer being turned down; even if the force behind it seemed rather out of character for the mystic. However, the misunderstanding was cleared just as quickly, and she watched Danika curiously. Was it too much to ask the mystic to step away? It probably was. It was silly to suggest. She should- gladly?

Vermina's smile rose brighter with a nod of acceptance. Now, she just had to make sure it wasn't a disappointment! She made sure the radaku was secured away with a light scolding, and then she lead the way through the trees. It was toward the festival again, but the ground split and angled upward rather than down to the beach. Her steps guided by a path that was clearly gently used, the pair eventually broke out to the edge of the woods. "Watch your step," she warned lightly.

It couldn't have been called a cliff, but the hill they had just climbed came to a fairly sudden and steep stop with only a thin clearing of ground between the trees and the drop. From their perch, they could practically see the whole beachline stretching out to either side, and the bright festival was right below them. The large bonfire's light would just barely reach to give their faces a gentle glow as they surveyed the scene, their new view showing the long shadows it cast along the sands. The dancing silhouettes made the clan seem to have double the numbers as the Alks spun and ran! Vermina sat down at the edge with her calves hanging down along the steep ground before looking back up at Danika. "It's quite a different view than from on the beach, is it not?" she asked, hoping to see approval on the other's face.

In her younger years, Danika had made a habit of finding various hidden paths that twisted through Chibale. But as she found herself following Vermina the mystic was puzzled. I don't think I've ever been this way before. Excitement, surely from finding a new location and nothing else, made her heart rapidly beat in her chest in a strange dance of its own. As Vermina instructed her to watch her step, Danika found her hand reaching out to grasp lightly at Vermina's fingers. Their fingers gently intertwined she allowed Vermina to guide her towards the overlook. Once again a warmth spread across her chest but Danika attributed it to the excursion warming her blood.

"Amazing." A gasp left her lips as she surveyed the view before them. It was such a small, secluded spot and yet it was perfect. Seeing the beach below and still hearing the faintest melodies from the music made her delighted. She couldn't help the smile that spread across her face as she turned towards Vermina. "Hmm?" Her dark gaze seemingly lit up with an inner light as she studied her companion before nodding. "It is beautiful." She replied, her voice but a whisper as she found herself studying Vermina more than the view in the moment. "Thank you for bringing me here."

She had accepted Danika's supportive grip without thinking. Now that she was sitting down though, Vermina noticed their fingers linked together... and found herself leaving them as they were. She impulsively rationed to herself that she was just sharing the moment with her friend. The words of another echoed in her head though, and her gaze lingered on the mystic. Her heart was pulling her in a certain direction, but surely she couldn't...

When she realized she was being watched, she managed to give their joined hands a squeeze before lowering her gaze bashfully back down toward the party below them. "You're welcome. Thank you for coming with me." After a calming breath, Vermina let her conflicted smile warm again. Like the festival taught, she had to let herself be content with what she had; harvest and relationships alike. "I found this spot while foraging last summer. You are, of course, welcome to visit it whenever you wish."

Danika tilted her head thoughtfully before giving a small smile. "You're welcome. I would gladly follow you to any more spots like these, Vermina." She admitted almost playfully. "It truly is a beautiful sight." More so than just the view but for some reason she couldn't voice the compliment. Strange how she suddenly felt like she was shy. Danika blinked as she listened to Vermina and gave a slow nod. "I see. Thank you again." She gave Vermina's fingers a thankful squeeze, her cheeks flushing as she realized that their fingers were still interlinked and she made no move to break away. It was nice sitting here with Vermina and just staring over the ocean and watching the bonfires casting their dancing lights along the pearly white shores of Chibale.

"Though I don't think I would like it nearly as much alone. It is beautiful but I find that I'm enjoying having company a lot more." She confessed before slowly peeking towards Vermina. "I hope that is acceptable with you." She had always watched the festivals from afar after doing her part and this was the first time in a long time that she had shared someone's company afterwards. Even as an apprentice she did not recall truly participating in anything public for fun due to the pressures on her shoulders. Simply having Vermina at her side was a treasure in itself and she was truly grateful for the company of the other Alkidike.

"I-.." Gaze flicking over to Danika, Vermina found herself momentarily speechless. She had to be cautious that she didn't read too far into the other's words, but it was so tempting to do so. The cheerful mood radiated from the festival below, and this peaceful moment between them easily allowed the warmth to weave its way in. "I greatly enjoy your company," she finally assured, giving Danika's fingers a squeeze again. "Perhaps.. we could plan another evening together soon?" Her cheeks flushed hot, but her smile was soft. "Perhaps we could chose rather than leaving it to happenstance?"

Danika blinked in surprise at the question. Now that she thought about it they did always seem to run into each other by random and never by planning such encounters. It always felt so natural to spend time with Vermina that she hadn't realized how much she relied on chance than actually making it happen herself. The thought set a slight flush to her cheeks as she nodded and turned her gaze towards the beach to hide her conflicted expression from her companion. "If you would like. I know I can be swamped with my duties but..." She trailed off before finally adding sincerely, "I would not be opposed to something other than chance." Of course she would be delighted to spend more time with Vermina but the mystic was almost afraid of speaking such words. It was confusing...hoping that there was something more but at the same time not really understanding what she was looking for. Someone who wanted to spend time with her for her as Danika and not the mystic? Or would it just be about keeping their mystic company as some sort of duty? The Alkidike's mouth pursed thoughtfully in the shadows, a flicker of a frown crossing her features at the thought. Why would that trouble her so?

After a pause she finally continued speaking, her gaze still fixated on the beach below."That is if such things wouldn't be burdensome to you." As she spoke, Danika found herself focused on the figures dancing along the beach below. "I know that sometimes it is hard to relax in my presence that is." Her antenna flicked downwards as she spoke, her gaze slowly moving away from the festivities below. "What do you propose?" She finally asked softly, her chest feeling surprisingly warm as she finally chose to peek towards Vermina.

Vermina quickly nodded, eyes drifting away. "I would not presume to distract you from your duties, of course." Perhaps it was a silly thing to suggest. Danika's time was precious to everyone on Chibale. Planning to take any of it outside of an incidental run-in was probably too presumptuous... Would it really be so bad, though? Was it really so wrong to want a little time?

"I cannot see there being any way spending time with you would be considered a burden," she assured, fighting off the urge to imagine that Danika's concern was due to the mystic harboring such feelings of being burdened herself. The tone shifted with the warning, and Vermina raised her head a little more again. She was quiet for a moment before letting out a breath. "On the contrary.. I find myself quite content with you." She chuckled bashfully and shook her head. "Perhaps with everyone else around, your focus is naturally on your role to the community. Yet, when we are together alone and you are just being you, I feel very relaxed. More time like that would be nothing but enjoyable."

Her eyes went wide, and she ducked her head to gaze hard at the festival below. "I apologize if that was too forward."

"As long as you do not mind waiting on me then I would gladly allow you to distract me for a few hours." Teased Danika lightly as she squeezed Vermina's hands. Perhaps it was a bit bold of her to say so but she truly enjoyed Vermina's presence and never wanted her to feel like she was a bother. Especially now that Vermina told her that she wasn't a burden herself! Honestly Danika was delighted every time that she ran into the other Alkidike and she was actually excited that they were going to plan a meeting that wasn't well a....meeting. She was curious about what Vermina would plan but did well to hold back the flurry of questions that threatened to spill.

Vermina's words warmed her chest and Danika found herself shifting so that she was closer to her companion. "No, no. I'm glad that you feel that way." She protested as she moved so that she could lean before Vermina and study her face. A small smile spread across her lips as she thoughtfully nodded after a moment. "Please don't think that you're ever too forward with me, Vermina. It makes me so happy that you can be yourself and that I can also be myself around you. It's a blessing that I have someone like you in my life right now so how could I ever be upset at you speaking so freely?" Her hand reached out to tuck back a stray dread hanging in front of Vermina's face and she hesitated, a thoughtful expression crossing her features as she waited for the other Alkidike's response.

There was little doubt that time with Danika would be worth the wait... It was an intimidating prospect to actually plan to meet up rather than have it be a situational encounter. Could she come up with something entertaining? What if she ended up being boring? Or disappointing?

Before she could get overwhelmed, Vermina's attention was nabbed by seeing Danika leaning in closer. She really was lovely in the soft light... That bashful smile warmed further, that feeling in her chest expanded pleasantly as well. "I am glad to hear that," she replied simply. What Danika was saying was a lot to take in, the young warrior taken back by the realization that their relationship had gotten to such an intimate level. To have someone she could be straightforward with, and to have that feeling reciprocated truly meant so much that she still needed to absorb what it was.

Still, getting herself to consciously voice such depth to that thoughtful face... It probably would have been so easy to do right then. However, that would have to wait. For now, she wanted to be able to continue sharing this moment with Danika without risk, contently watching the festival from their high perch, leaning as well to allow the adjustment to her hair. Such a precious friendship...
