Prompt
Tendaji is filled with a wide array of wildlife, some friendly and some a bit dangerous. It's rare that an inhabitant of the world will spend a day without encountering a wild creature in passing, be it from hunting, traveling, or even taking care of a pet. The creatures of this world only seem to add to the colorful experiences that Earthlings, Aishans, and Kahikinans have each and every day.

[ For this prompt, we want you to pick one (or more) fauna in Tendaji and have your character encounter them in some way. Maybe it's catching a new pet, or animal watching, or maybe it's a hunting trip. Take some time to explore the flora and fauna thread and create a story around your character's experience with the creature(s). ]

It was a pristine lake.

Esai sighed as he sat down along one of the many long rocks jutting from the land and towards the still waters. The darker Yaeli had come to explore the area and to help his mother by collecting some diascia. The sticky little creatures were not his favorite to deal with but he knew that their slim would be beneficial to any needing their healing properties. Several glass orb like containers hung from his sash, the empty jars clinking quietly as he shifted on his perch. It was a bit darker, a cloudy day thankfully, and it would be easy enough to see the strange glowing goop that the smaller creatures left behind. He had just taken a moment to relax on the rocks so that he could enjoy the peace and quiet. Out here things were calmer, nature was far more capable of giving him space than the local villagers who often crowded into his home back across the way.

Leaning back on his elbows, Esai took a moment to just enjoy a break. His legs crossed as he rested his head on his arms and studied the clouds. Hopefully the gods were merciful today and would keep the rain at bay until after his hunt was concluded. Just a few more minutes and then I’ll move. He told himself as he allowed the music of the gentle waters to soothe his spirit. He was not a lazy one but he did understand the importance of giving your body and spirit both a break. Something which he rarely got the chance to do save for whenever he could escape his village and venture into the wilderness like this.

Her brother loved painting, and Alfina was determined to deliver something new and special for him to use! There was more to paint with than the basic plant-life he usually used, though getting to it tended to be a little more challenging. While not looking forward to the process of searching, she knew it would be worth it in the end to see her twin happy.

Heading for the lake, she couldn't see the body lying on the rocks above from her angle. Her focus was on the still water and the things that she knew lurked underneath, slipping off her boots before entering the water. Certain soft stones, fish scales, slimes...

Yuck... he was lucky she loved him so much!

The peacefulness of solitude was interrupted by the sound of gentle splashing. Blinking in confusion, Esai pulled himself to his feet so that he could look down towards the water. Was it some large fish just splashing around or a smaller creature coming for a drink of the cool waters? I suppose it was nothing. He thought as he managed to somehow miss the youngling who was currently below him. Perhaps it was a sign from the gods that he should continue moving on with his mission. Esai glanced towards the skies, gave a small nod, and then proceeded to climb down from the rock.

He was already wearing the bare minimum for the day, his leather leggings and sandals the only remnants of clothing while the rest stayed in a small pile on the rock. Esai didn't expect anyone to be out here nor did he wish to get his clothing wet. Slipping down from his perch the young Yaeli had to pause as he realized that he was not quite alone and was suddenly eye to eye with a youngling!

"Oh...hello there." He greeted with a small, surprised wave.

Feet sinking into the muddy ground, the muck slipping between her toes, Alfina's nose wrinkled with distaste. She wasn't one to shirk away from dirty work, but she certainly didn't like it either! It was going to be a pain to get out from under her nails...

Hearing a shifting behind her, Alfina tensed up and slowly turned to look around. She hadn't seen anyone else around!

When the dark figure suddenly dropped from seemingly out of nowhere, Alfina's whole body froze with fright. Maybe he wouldn't notice... he noticed! Her breath exploded from her in a shriek and she backpedaled in an instinctive urge to put space between herself and the stranger. This only pushed her further back into the water though, and restricted feet made her fall backward. Thankfully, that spot was still shallow and the now soaked youngling sat upright to stare wide-eyed at the.. Yeali? Shadow? Monster? He was so... different!

Wait, monsters didn't talk, did they?

".....hi," she managed hesitantly, unable to tear her gaze away for even a moment.

She was startled. The realization made Esai almost pull backwards in surprise. The youngling surely wasn't from his village else she would have recognized him. His dark gaze softened as he studied her and the young man squatted, his own leggings getting soaked in the waters. Slowly he held out a hand towards her. "I'm sorry if I scared you. My name is Esai." He began with a small smile. "Let me help you up?" He made certain not to move and just patiently waited in the waters for the youngling to move towards him. The last thing he wanted to do was scare her more and cause her to accidentally fall even deeper into the waters.

She blinked rapidly as though the fluttering vision might make more sense with more blinking. Of course, it did little more than confirm the man standing before her was real.

..at least he sounded kind. "Esai.." she repeated to herself, eyes finally slipping to peek at the offered hand. Pressing her lips a moment, she let out her anxious breath and reached to accept the assistance. "I didn't know anyone else was here.."

Relief bloomed in his chest whenever the youngling accepted his offered hand. Thank the gods. He smiled and helped her back onto her feet. If it was one of the young ones from his village he could have carried her to the shore but he was worried that lifting her may scare her once more. "I didn't know either." He replied with a quiet laugh. "I was out here hunting diascia and instead I found you."

He studied her a moment longer before finally asking. "What about you? Why are you out here by yourself?" It could be dangerous. There were many creatures that lurked in the wilderness of Yael which could threaten the girl. That did not even include the strangers who still roamed their lands, many of which had quietened down slightly over the years while others still thirsted for blood. The thought made Esai's gaze flicker about for a moment before he pushed such fears aside. He would protect the child should anything arise. If he could find out why she was here then he could hopefully take her home or to some sort of shelter.

Once upright, Alfina looked down at herself and sighed. What a mess... Brushing at the muck sticking to her seat, she found a short giggle emerging from her lips in return. Perhaps he had not been as startled, but at least she was not the only one surprised today!

"I'm Alfina," she finally offered. "I'm trying to find stuff to make into paint for my brother-" Her eyes widened suddenly, along with her smile. "Do you think diascia slime would make a nice paint? Oh, I bet it would make the colors stick better to the paper! Can I help you catch them?"

"A pleasure to meet you, Alfina." Replied Esai with a warm smile. "Hmm?" He slowly stood while he pondered her question. Could diascia slime work in such a way? Surely if it left such a shimmering slime then that slime could be mixed in with other things for painting. I suppose we'll find out whenever you grab some for the paint. I'll gladly take your help." He found himself agreeing as he started towards the shoreline, his hands ready to catch Alfina should she fall again. Thankfully once he got away from the slick rocks, Esai could study the gray shores once more. It was a rockier area and even the shore was more rock than sand. Thankfully years of water had smoothed down the limestone into smooth grounds. The erosion had even created shallow pockets here and there along the shore were some pools of water gathered, their presence marked by the glittering of the waters in the sunlight.

"Your brother is very lucky to have a brave sister like you." He commented as he waited for her to join him on the shore. "I don't know many younglings courageous enough to come this way for paint materials. Are you far from home?" His gaze went back towards her while he studied the shore to keep an eye out for the diascia. Already a trail of slime had caught his attention further ahead and his fingers traced along the cool glass jars hanging around his waist thoughtfully. He could surely sacrifice one so that Alfina could take some home to her brother. It was more important to help her fulfill her quest so that she could get home safely. Esai could always come back another day if necessary.

Yay, she could be helpful and get what she needed. Wadding toward dry land, Alfina groaned quietly to herself. This was going to be an uncomfortable walk home with wet shorts!

The comment sent a proud flush to her cheeks and she grinned up happily. "He is!" she agreed. "..and I'm lucky to have him, too." Credit where credit was due. She considered herself lucky with her whole family! "Not that far. I've come here before," she replied. She cocked her head to look the strange man over again before moving to investigate a little slime trail nearby. "I never saw you here before. Do you live close?"

"I see." Esai glanced back towards the youngling thoughtfully before finally moving forward after the glowing slime. "I live somewhat close. My village is a few hours towards the southeast of here." He replied before loosening the glass jar from his belt and handing it towards Alfina. "Be careful with it but you can scoop up any of the slime into this jar. I usually use a leaf so that my hands don't get sticky." He instructed as he handed her a long leaf, dry and sturdy enough to scoop up the slime.

The diascia was a strange creature to leave such a trail but at least it was helpful. Motioning for Alfina to follow him, Esai led the way along the shore until they came to an area where a larger hole had eroded away from the shoreline. Inside was several trails of glowing goop with the strange creatures gathering together. He counted at least four or five of the diascia, their strange long eye stalks and limbless bodies simply chilling along the cooler rocks. They surely were younger diascia since they did not reach the full length of Esai's arm yet but they had their crystals along their backs and each left a trail of slime whenever they slowly wiggled forward away from Esai and Alfina.

Alfina couldn't restrain a soft gasp. Hours?! That was a far way to come for some diascia slime! Lips pursing, she carefully accepted the jar and nodded her understanding. She certainly did not want to break the nice shadow man's jar! "That's a good idea!" she cooed as she accepted the leaf. Anything that kept her a t least a little cleaner was certainly appreciated.

She followed as directed, keeping her eyes peeled for more signs of the signature slime. When they came up to the shallow pool extension though, her nose immediately wrinkled again. Caolan was so going to owe her if this didn't pan out the way she had hoped!

"What good is being so slimy?" she asked, squatting so that she could start collecting the prize.

"I enjoy hiking." He offered as he passed the leaf towards the girl. He couldn't help but to smile as he watched her. It would have been nice if he had younger siblings but unfortunately he was the only child in his family. His mother's prayers to the gods had only granted her with him...the blessed oddity. Focusing back on the diascia, Esai crouched forward and began to scoop up the slime with another leaf. "I suppose it must have some benefit." He replied with a soft chuckle. "Maybe it helps them to move since they don't have limbs....or deters predators who don't like the slime. I assume their crystals protect them but you never know especially with keldari who may think their shells are a nice snack."

He watched Alfina and helped her by scooping up some extra slime into her jar as they walked along. It was a few quiet minutes as he focused on the task and made certain that their jars were mostly full. "Perhaps I could escort you back home? Or at least walk you towards your home path?" Truly he wanted to make certain that the youngling went home safely. He wouldn't feel right otherwise.

As careful as she tried to be, Alfina couldn't help getting a little of the slime on her fingers and the outside of the jar. Her gaze slid over to the little creatures, lips pursing slightly. "I wouldn't wanna eat them," she agreed.

She stepped over to the fresher water to rinse her hands and the jar clean. As she did, she also plucked up a coupe of soft stones that could be broken and ground into powders; hopefully colorful powders! All of it went into her pack, a few things shifted around to keep the jar safe. This should be enough for now.

The offer for the escort gave Alfina a big smile. "Okay! Thank you," she chirped, reaching out to take Esai's hand without thinking in order to lead the way. It would be nice to have company on the trip back!
