With a fishing pole in hand, Kuno strutted out to the end of the lake dock excitedly. He was eager to impress his family by catching dinner for the evening with Azreal. Considering the season, going onto the ice itself wasn't the safest idea, and he would rather not face his mother's protective wrath today if he fell through.
Getting a head start, he had just finished breaking up the ice closest to the dock and was preparing his line. A thud against the dock made him pause and look over the edge. It was fairly deep there, and the floating ice made seeing difficult. That impact had been too big to be a regular fish...

They had gone to the northern area to fish. Azreal slowly walked after his brother, his steps lingering as he studied the lake that they were approaching. It was pretty with the colder waters glittering in the sunlight. Azreal himself was less eager to catch dinner but he was interested to see what his twin would pull out of the waters. "You think you'll get something big?" He asked as he fiddled with his own fishing pole, his lips pursed into a thoughtful line before something jolted the dock.
"What the?" Azreal frowned as he darted up next to Kuno, his fishing pole dropped along the dock so that he could wrap an arm around his brother for security. What if he fell in?! The youngling's deep blue gaze stared towards the waters intently but he didn't even know what could have done that. "A really big fish?" He guessed as he tightened his grip around Kuno's arm.

For added security, Kuno, gave his brother a tug to kneel onto the dock. "Something big!" he agreed. Maybe he could catch it! A flicker of pale skin under the surface caught his attention, and his eyes widened further. How big-?! "Look out!" he yelped, pushing the both of them back from the edge.
The water splashed as a large body emerged and climbed onto the ice. Kuno sat up and gasped in a breath. The creature wasn't the biggest thing he had ever seen, but everything was big to a youngling. "Azreal! It's a nedile! A nerdail! A nerd.. shoot!" He couldn't remember the name fully, just in awe as he watched the creature use boney fins to pull itself over the ice toward the shore.

Azreal nodded. "Definitely big." He really was curious about what was under there. Was it some sort of sea monster instead of a fish? What if a giant creature lived in this lake? Would it eat them? Chase them away for trying to fish in its waters? His ideas could continue on but the boy found himself falling backwards as his brother pushed them both back away from the edge. Oof!
He was going to ask if Kuno was okay but then the sight of the Nehredile made him gasp instead. They were accustomed to seeing a variety of animals since living in the animal sanctuary but this guy was new! He had only seen him in sketches from the books and from stories spun by some of the locals in the nearby village. "Wooooow." He found himself whispering before glancing back at Kuno, "Nehredile." He repeated slowly with a small frown. That was it, right? "The swimming land flopper." Azreal nicknamed on the spot with a grin, "It's so big! Just look at those tusks..." In the back of his mind a very impractical idea began to form as he glanced back and forth between the moving creature and his brother. "Do you think...Auntie could use one back home?" He mentioned, his blue gaze gleaming with mischief.

"Nehredile! That's it," he agreed, moving to get onto his knees with interest. He laughed at the given nickname and nodded. "That sounds right. It sure is floppy." Setting his fishing pole out of the way, he shimmied along the dock slowly to keep an eye on the creature.
They had picked the perfect day to break up the ice! If only the others could see-!
He looked over at Azreal with wide eyes. The gears turned in his head, and his face broke into the biggest grin. "I bet she's never had one of those before!" Even if she didn't exactly need it, he could just imagine her delight in having one around. He looked back at their supplies and his brow knit. "Think this will be enough to catch it?"

"Yeah." Agreed Azreal with a grin. It was so funny to watch how it moved itself across the ice! Though perhaps if it didn't then it would simply slide across? He remembered his own attempt to cross the ice while running before....it definitely had not been a graceful moment. His gaze narrowed thoughtfully before he carefully followed Kuno away from the dock. It definitely was a big one but it didn't have the horn that he had seen in some of the images. It just had tusks and the observation made the youngling pause. What did that mean again?
Azreal grinned at the idea of them being the first to encounter such a creature. "She'll be so happy!" He replied with delight. Surely they had to do this now! The boy glanced at their supplies thoughtfully, "Maybe. Do we have a lot of rope?" He mused as he shifted to try to sort through their supplies while taking the occasional glance towards the creature. "If we can loop it into a circle and then toss it over the swimming land flopper..."

The nehredile had reached the beach by now and was stretching itself out contently to enjoy the warmth of the sunlight while making itself look like such a tempting target for catching!
Kuno walked over to dig through the supplies. The bag for carrying fish back, extra fishing line, bait containers... Holding up the deep bag, he looked over to his brother and gave it a shake. "This should work. I've seen Auntie lead some of the animals around with bands over their eyes. She says it keeps 'em calm for some reason." He sure didn't enjoy being unable to see what was happening around him, but if it worked for the animals then it would surely work for the nehredile!
Fully off the dock now, he started to head for the sunbathing creature. The closer he got though, the easier it was to compare himself to the size of the beast and to see those freaky fins... He looked back at Azreal with a hint of trepidation. "You comin'?" He wasn't sure he could do it on his own!

"Okay." Azreal nodded as he followed his brother, "I'm right here." He whispered back as he started moving forward, some extra fishing line also in hand. Who knew what they would need? If Kuno said that it would work then he wanted to trust in his plan. They would just have to be super sneaky and walk behind the creature. So far it looked possible considering how it was lazing on the beach.
"I think it's trying to sleep." He whispered quietly as he leaned closer to his brother, "Do you take one side of the bag and I take the other?" They could each hold a strap and approach the creature from either side that way!

Bolstered by Azreal's support, Kuno nodded and held out the bag to free one handle for his brother. Certain that they were being sneaky enough, he carefully tip-toed closer and closer to the big beast. Too late to back out now! He certainly couldn't return home without at least trying!
The beast barely moved as they approached, though he couldn't see its face at all. He tightened his grip on the bag and held up his hand to signal Azreal. Three.. Two... One... Go! He jumped over a long fin and swung his arm down to hook the bag over the target's head.
Immediately, the nehredile raised its head in irritation and let out one of the loudest groans Kuno had ever heard. Its mouth was huge!! Its fins flapped as it attempted to scare off the annoying pair, and Kuno yelped as his legs got smacked to make him fall back onto his butt. "Azreal!" he yelped out in belated warning and concern.

Azreal took a deep breath and waited for Kuno's signal before springing into action. Following his brother's own actions, the young boy managed to put his part of the bag over the nehredile's head as well. Got it! His excitement soon transitioned to dread as he too found himself being thrown around by the flailing creature. Ooof! His blue eyes narrowed in determination though as he clung onto the strap for dear life. "Hold on!" He yelled out as the nehredile continued flailing and then in its desperation even started sliding forward back towards the ice.
Oh boy....

Kuno wasn't sure he could have let go even if he'd wanted to. His hand was in a vice grip around the strap, his legs scrambling to dig his heels into the ground. All he managed was to leave shallow gouges in the earth as he was dragged back with the creature. Then his heels smacked against ice, cracking the thin layer along the shore. He reached for a better hold, but that was when his strap tore and he was smacked away again by a flailing fin. Yelping with a mix of surprise, pain, disappointment, and relief, Kuno laid out on his side panting for air. "Azreal! Let go!"

"Bu-but!" Azreal protested even though he knew that their goal was far beyond their reaches now. A small surge of pride and some defiance welled upwards inside of the young boy and despite his brother's pleas his fingers actually tightened around the remaining strap. Was he really going to have to give up now? Tears of frustration glimmered in his blue gaze as he continued to hold on despite the flailing creature. Surely he would be bruised and sore afterwards but the little stubborn spirit inside of him really refused to give up! But then the nehredile found itself in water again and with an aggressive shake, the last strap broke free and the bag went sailing up into the air.
Free at last the creature went into the water with a loud smack, its dive spraying water backwards and drenching Azreal. He had fallen backwards onto the layer of ice touching the shoreline and ever so slowly he had scooted until he was back on solid ground. Now he just sat there, his palms flat against the ground and his dark azure hair wet and sticking to his face. So much for that one. Sighing, Azreal plastered on a faint smile and glanced back towards Kuno. "Next.... time, right?" He managed through his rugged breaths.

Panic went through him as Azreal was dragged further away, scrambling to get upright and chase. Letting out a shaking sigh when the nehredile slipped back into the water without Azreal, Kuno followed suit to scoot from the ice to solid land. Giving his legs a once over, certain a bruise or two would be showing up, he did his best to return a more confident grin. "Definitely... next time. ..Gonna be ready," he huffed out. A little research, some stronger supplies, and they would be sure to catch the nehredile for their Auntie!

"Sounds good." Azreal managed with a small smile. He would have bruises for certain but at least it had been exciting! Maybe this was why their Auntie was so into creatures. They were really cool to interact with and the whole thrill of trying to capture one still made his hands shake. Or perhaps that was the after effect of hanging on for his life? Azreal didn't know for certain but either way it was a day to remember! His gaze gleamed as he studied the skies. They would definitely have to go fishing more often in the future.
