The morning rays washed over the decaying structures of the ones glorious shrine. A few roofs were caved in. A few walls collapsed. Most of the buildings still stood almost intact, if not very obviously inhabitable. The paths were now overgrown, with vines trailing up columns. It was dirty. It was dusty. And it was deeming with any manner of rodents and insects. Not that the mare slowly walking out one building really noticed anymore. She barely seemed to notice anything even more, despite how much time had passed since the incident. Years, it had to have been. Enough years that she had been five times pregnant. How many children did that give her, now? It was difficult to tell. Most left. Only Nyomi remained. Poor Nyomi. She should have left. Found a better home for herself. But Kyouka knew her daughter would never do that. She still felt it her duty to remain and care for the place as the last living handmaiden.

Sometimes she would see two of her sons. The ones with the Nova father. One was a Nova, one a Starborn like herself. Such kind, gentle boys. Trying to find a cure for the curse. She wished they would leave and stay away, too. This was no place for anyone else but her and Reika. This was their punishment, their torture. Their cursed memories to share. Not for fresh souls in the world who hardly knew of such pain yet.

They, as well, would not stay away. No matter how many times she would tell them to. There was no end to the curse. No way to purify the darkness. Youngsters were so stubborn.

"Never go to the shrine."
"The Elders speak of vengeful spirits up in those cursed ruins."
"If you ever go up there you'll be spirited away"

Cobalt had heard it all and more before. Time and time again, every since he was a little foal. The folklore was past from elder to foals for as long as anyone in the herc down the mountain could remember. Those who climbed to the decaying manor never returned...Or so they say! Cobalt always loved listening to the stories. The fable. Was it even true? What had happened up the mountain? He always wondered, day dreamed about it.

He was no longer a little colt. He was a stallion. So finally he managed to slip away from the watch of the guards and the elders. Finally he was in front of the old dilapidated manor. Finally he might learn the truth to the fables. With his luck all the elders were just crazy and there was nothing going on in the long abandoned manor.

Cobalt took a deep breath and held his lantern close for light. The air was thick with the scent of musk and mold. What was left of the floor boards creaked under his hooves. Cobalt couldn't help but try to picture the manor back in it's prime. It must have been beautiful. All his fantasies from when he was little, they were running though his head once again. It was a pitty it was left in such decay. Maybe one day someone would come up the mountain and fix this place up. He'd love to live up the mountain. It was so beautiful. So...Calming...Like the gentle winter snow.

He felt so relaxed as he silently walked around the ruins that he started to sing softly a lullaby common in his herd.
"Sleep, child, Go to sleep.
Sleep, child, Go to sleep.
If you cry, the boat you ride
The boat to the other side
"
