#FAB66F Long day, long hours, hot sun. By the time Iro set foot back on land at the pier after a full day of fishing, she was tired - contentedly so - and longing for a good, long sit down by the local watering hole. A shower would have been nice too, but walking home first and then back to the pub felt like an eternity's worth of extra mileage, so she tossed half a bucket of clean water haphazardly on her face to rinse off the surface layer of sweat and ocean grime, then dumped her bucket of fish by the pier for her aunt, who had been waiting to collect them. "I'm off!" Iro sang out, waving casually to her aunt as she trudged by. "I'll be down at the pub, if you lot are thirsty!"She sauntered off down the road and plopped herself down in her usual chair, at her usual table out on the porch. The barkeep's lovely wife had already set out a pitcher of cold water for her, and Iro took a hearty swig before sprawling back in her sweat to watch the sun set over the ocean. Ahhhhhhhhh. What a life.

Zuella had been told to go get alcohol at the local pub, her aunts had demaded that the youngest bring them the kabootle, or something like that, which meant alcohol. She didn't think they needed more personally but went and did her best anyway. She saw a young prentice who looked more than comfortable ordering. "Um sorry can you tell me how to order meade and wine here, is there a custom I should know of?" Zuella was on her first mission out of the forest to help her crews blacksmith pick out her preferred materials. She was like a kid in a candy shop. The rest wanted to be drunk. Who was she to argue. "It's not for me, my aunties are in town."

Iro was lounging back, feeling completely comfortable in her little corner of the world, watching the bustle of the streets go by as the end of the day neared. She caught sight of the young Alkidike just a second before Zuella approached, and seemed to perk up at the prospect of chatting up a new friend. "Oh!" Iro said with a wink and a grin, waving the other prentice over with a jerk of her head. "You've come to the right girl."Her easy smile was wide as the bartender materialized from inside the establishment, laden with four steins of ale, and set them down with a thunk on Iro's table without much of a second glance at either of the prentices. He disappeared again, and Iro sat up in her seat to reach over for one of the mugs. "I get your meaning," she said with almost wicked delight as she snuck a long draft of ale from one of the steins and set it back down in its place. "These here are for my uncles, too."Then she let out an unabashed laugh and gestured to one of the open seats beside her. "Here, take a seat, we'll get your order in when the barkeep comes back out!"

Ohhh, this was so much fun! She was actually interacting with an earthling. Her toes wriggled with delight, she couldn't help it. Nodding she took the seat next to the girl who seemed to know it all about ordering things. "Do they uh, send you often for drink? At least my aunts only do it when they travel, helps them all get along apparently, I'm not sure they are the average team, they are pretty elite and thus pretty weird." Each one had a quirk. The quirks all got worse with drink. It was so hard to sleep at night. "It is so fun to be out of the forest for a bit, I find myself just drinking everything in. Is using all that bright color in fabric common to all of the people who live here? Its so pretty." Her own people went with a decent camoflague of browns and greens. "And the spices at the market, there are so many colors, oh new is so fun." She may have been quite sheltered up until now, this was her first mission, but it was amazing just adventuring around, she didn't neccessarily care too much about the content of the mission itself, she felt it was more of an experiment. "They are trying to suck up to a lady back home so we can get a bigger house to share. I don't feel like it is the most serious mission they have ever have but it may also be padded safely for my benefit. I'm sure they are all giggling back home that I have to take this seriously." Her aunts exhausted her sometimes with their foolishness. Her mother was one of the more serious but even she had her moments to frolic.

Iro didn't sit up when Zuella took a seat at the table, but she did raise one of the mugs of ale in the Alkidike's direction, accompanied by an upward nod of greeting. "Ah, is it that they send me here, or just that... I'm always here anyway?" Iro said with an open laugh, setting down the beer and switching to water. Better not drink too much before the rest of them got here. "They know I can kick back and hold my own with the rest of them. At this point, they just see me as one of the crew. I just get here before the others most of the time. Sometimes there's a straggler here that likes to play dice games." She lifted her eyebrows in Zuella's direction. An important tip about fitting in around these parts. Everyone liked dice games, and there was no quicker way to a sailor's heart than drinking and light-hearted gambling. "We're a colorful people, I guess! There are markets all over the place, if you fancy some gold or colorful clothes. If you know how to haggle, you can get yourself some good deals," she said happily, although Iro herself wasn't decked out in overly fancy clothing. No use wearing out the nice stuff day in and day out in the sun. But merchants and nobles often stepped out in positively bejeweled outfits that shone in the sun. Gold and all that. "Everything's... kind of loud and bold here." It was clear from her grin that Iro loved that about Oba. "These missions," she continued, curious, eyeing Zuella with a glint in her eyes. "What are they for? Are your aunts elite spies?" Wouldn't that be cool?

"More like elite warriors lacking a war to kick butt in, so they either get assigned missions or assign them themselves to keep sharp...though I feel like this was more of an excuse to partake in some excellent oban ale while they train me. What do you think would I look better as a blacksmith or with two blades? I haven't been able to decide one way or another yet." One you got to fight the other you made the best weapons it was such an impossible decision. She had hung on Irnaya's every word, absolutely fascinated about what earthlings were like, she liked the woman's spirit and her blunt attitude. It was so refreshing. "What about you? What do you want to be?"

Iro managed to lean somehow farther back in her chair as she mulled Zuella's words over, propping an elbow up on the table and leaning her cheek against the palm. That was a good point. What did one do with an entire society of warriors when there was no war to fight? She'd never thought about that before. To be fair, she hadn't had many interactions with Alkidike before, and it was rather exciting to find one that seemed so interested in Earthling society. At Zuella's question, Iro turned to face her, almost incredulous for just a moment, and then let out another unfettered laugh. "Are you kidding me?" she said. It didn't take her but a second to know her answer. "Girl, you would be wasted as a blacksmith. Look at you! If it's a choice between a sexy, badass warrior and a blacksmith, you oughta do the world a favor pick the former."She sprawled back again, taking a drink out of a different, untouched mug, gaze casting about to make sure she'd catch the bartender if he came out again. "Me? I want to be a sailor," Iro answered with a small chuckle as she set the mug back down. Her entire family and extended family were sailors and fishermen, and that simple kind of life had treated them well for generations. "But they say I show some promise as a guard, they think I should go in for training and open up my prospects." She sighed. It was probably because she was built like a brickhouse, and well... kind of enjoyed a good brawl whenever it came her way. "Maybe I will. Seems like a lot of work though."

Zue shrugged, "Do what you want to do in your heart, its your life no one else should get to have a say in what you dedicate yourself too if you know that it is what you want. Personally I would rather work with plants and trees but when you are under Aisha you get four choices only. So I garden in my spare time." Swords would be more fun then blacksmithing, oh it was just so hard. But maybe Irnaya was right and it would be more glamorous. She did want to be that. But in a cool way. "Sailiing would be so noble. Just you the sea and a rowdy crew, I think you would enjoy it." "If you become a guard though, perhaps once we have trained some we could spar?" She always felt like she was going out on a limb talking to others, even at home, she was so deeply imbedded in her family unit that well she felt separated somewhat from other alk prentices. Of course this meant that she could adult with the best of them but well she wanted a friend darn it.

Iro nodded, rubbing her chin as she thought. "That's true. It's not that I think they're wrong, it's just not easy, and boy... if I didn't just wish I could do the easiest things in life all the time," she said. It was a flaw. One that she was quite aware of, but not too fussed about fixing. Her family would set her straight though. No doubt, one of these days, they would annoy her enough to go to training, or even physically drop her off themselves. That'd show her. "Funny you say that, sailing I think is... kind of noble and ignoble at the same time," she said with a laugh. "Being out on the open sea is... Mm!" She brought her fingers to her lips and kissed them, before releasing them into an open-palmed gesture. "But the rowdy crew is both a blessing and a curse." And she loved it that way. If they were here, she'd be the first one to mess with them. There were no overnight grudges in her crew, no insult that could possibly transcend their friendships. "It's a shame that we can't just pursue the things we both love to do, but I guess that's... as the adults say... 'not practical.'" Iro said, eyebrows raised. She was beginning to feel a certain kinship with this Alkidike, who seemed in some ways to understand some of the struggles that she had. Not that their circumstances were the same. Certainly, Iro could appreciate that she had a little bit more freedom in her choices. But still. She grinned, toothy and wide, at Zuella's suggestion. "You mean you can put a beating on me and I can take it?" Her eyes gleamed with humor as she leaned her cheek against her palm to look over at her companion. "Hey, if that's how you like it, I'm down to clown. It'll be good training. I'm Irnaya, by the way. Most folks just call me Iro."

Zuella gave her the same toothy grin that her blacksmithing aunt had taught her, it showed all the wild inside. "I'd love to do that, I am well trained but compared to my aunts still a bud on the tree of battle, but at least im not a twig anymore." As far as she was concerned the rest of the world had melted away in the face of this potential friendship. Irnaya seemed like a good sport! She all but vibrated with glee. "My name is Zuella," She winked. "It sounds like our families are pretty similar, kind of like an echo, not quite the same but not too different at all.

Iro let out a good-natured laugh as she flopped back in her seat, shaking her head. "Girl, you are anything but a twig," she said, nodding her head appreciatively. "You got that sexy strong but svelte thing down pat."She heard the door open, perking up like a curious dog as the bartender poked his head out to check on them. Iro flung her hand into the air to get his attention. "Oy, sir! A round of mead and wine for the lady's aunts," she hollered, and quietened to a giggle as the man shook his head and muttered something about not needing to shout when he was mere feet away. As the bartender's head disappeared through the door again, Iro turned back to Zuella. "You watch out around these parts, alright? Some of the lads might see you and assume you want to be bothered. But if any of the boys holler at you, you beat 'em right down. Then they'll know the boundaries, and they won't mess with you unless you want to."

"Better I beat them down than my aunts." Zuella blushed at the compliment of being sexy and svelte. "I think my figure is down to all the training we go though, honestly." Zuella fiddled with a dreadlock and then grinned as Irnaya ordered ale and meade. "I've never tried meade, isn't it made from honey?" She did like honey, usually on toast, she was a sucker for bread. "Im surprised boys would get up the guts to come after an alk, we are so tall." Though, Irnaya didn't seem intimidated by her size, she was grateful for that. "Might be fun to have a smackdown, at least I'd have a good story for the girls."

"Must work, whatever you're doing," she said with a nod. The bartender returned with a carrier with several bottles of wine and mead, setting it down along with a little plate of nuts. "You lot behave now," he said, raising an eyebrow at Iro, who grinned knowingly and popped a handful of nuts into her mouth as she nodded. A picture of innocence and perfect behavior, clearly. The bartender shook his head and retreated inside. "Mead? It's honey, yea, but it's not necessarily sweet. More kind of... flowery, I guess?" she said once he was gone. She gestured to one of the bottles. "You ought to try a taste, you might like it. I think these ones have got a bit of spice too.Iro grabbed another handful of nuts, tossing them up one by one and catching them in her mouth. "Oh, these sailor boys haven't got a lot of brain," she said, chuckling. "Don't know what's good for them. Plus we see a lot of travelers come through these ports. Things that used to be weird and foreign, they don't as much anymore."

Earthlings were fascinating, she didn't care what anyone else said. "Boys are so bold, usually its the auld warrior woman who are brave like that among my people." She pulled one of the mead mugs up to her, all but vibrating with excitement. This was going to be the coolest thing ever. First she took a good wiff, it smelled sour but sweetish. She pursed her lips and brought the cup up to her mouth, eyes tight shut she sucked a tiny bit of liquid over her tongue. "Wow! It has a kind of zing to it!" Mede was good. It tasted...healthy. No wonder why so many liked alcohol. She took a bigger sip and savoured the taste for a moment. "Mmmhmmmmm." She said contentedly her eyes lighting up in delight in Irnaya's direction. "This is so cool!"

"Boys are stupid, you mean," Iro corrected, laughing. She loved the dumb brutes, but she'd be lying if she said she thought they were particularly smart. It was a generalization, of course, but it seemed to her that as a gender, they seemed to be overwhelming less wise than women. "You guys are lucky you don't have to deal with them, you know. No wonder you Alks are so powerful."Iro fell silent as Zuella brought the mead to her lips, and watched with rapt attention as she took her first sip. She studied Zuella's expression as the mead went down, and then broke into a wide, knowing grin as she leaned back in her seat in satisfaction. "You like it!" she said, sounding pleased. In these parts of Jatine, anyone who enjoyed a pint was welcome company, and especially so when they were fearsome warriors in training. She popped another handful of nuts into her mouth and chewing them lazily. "I would say pace yourself, but..." she nodded at Zuella. "You're a bit of a beast, so I suspect you'll be able to handle it just fine."
