Quote:
It wouldn’t be a star festival without a meteor shower! Right on time, a beautiful array of shooting stars graces the night sky. Most meteor fragments appear to be little white or yellow lights streaming across the sky, but if you watch closely enough you may find that some of them seem to be pink, blue, and even purple in color. The scientists have reported that it’s just different components burning up as they enter the atmosphere, but there’s something undeniably magical about it.

She hadn't powered in some time. Between her Mauvian rioommate becoming human recently, and the increase in chaos recently, however, Afon Wysg had decided it was better to power and carry their stick of elder wood as they began toi walk through Destiny City. Afon was a liittle sad. The girls they'd tried adopting were too old, legally adults, and Afon technically was as well, but they'd ever dreamed of siblings. Using 'they' weas still an awkward pronoun, but they weren't ready to leave home, not until they rediscovered themself. And part of that meant working out their powered life as Afon Wysg.

There was a meteor shower of late, and it felt like a solid reason to go out powered, to study them and find focus, and so the page walked out and looked up thoughtfully, arms crossed and one hand clutching their elder large stick in qquiet thought, chewing their upper lip as they watched the sky above before pausing as they felt an aura around, and sihghed, looking around in silent cuyriousity.

"Well, don't be shy," the merchant said spoke. "If you're going to in the area, you might as well come closer. No use in me having such a lovely booth on display if no one is going to come by and admire it."

He kept his keen little smile in place, watching intently.

"You look as though you have something on your mind. Want me to lend an ear while you browse?"

Cherish blinked, then approached slowly, smiling the polite smile that came from oiling societyal grease to keep civilization going, before she inclined her head thoughtfully.

"If.. You don't mind family drama. Just... angry at people for not telling me something important, and my brothe for blowing it off." She sighed, examining a few pieces with genuine curiousity, biting her lip in thought. Here did inddeed have as loveely booth, and she admired it with a sort of quiet appreciation for another craftsman, fingers tracing the fabric curiously. SShe was intrigued by all of it really, mentally admitting some craft store must haver loved him. She could respect that.

"Mind family drama? No, I love it, actually. It's the most raw of all drama and emotions," he answered easily. He seemed to enjoy gossip, but there was something earnest about his interest, at least. "Secrets can break even the strongest relationships. I think you're right to be upset. Family secrets," he shrugged. "Those are the sorts of things that can affect you for generations to come. And, if you can't trust your family, who can you trust?"

He watched her eyes upon his table and gestured to a few pretty trinkets--though, perhaps, the most interesting was a compass. It was clearly old, and the metal was a bit tarnished, but it was a gorgeous piece that still seemed to work. At the very least, the needle was pointing North. The backing of the compass was a piece of art; rather than just a standard four letter indication of the correct direction, an ornate octopus had been painted in rich colors, and gold lines accented it beautifully. Even the compass needle seemed to have been styled to mimic one of the eight legs of the octopus.

He tapped it with a long finger, almost contemplatively. "Why not treat yourself to something nice? I like trades. For shiny things. One of mine for one of yours?"

Cherish sighed, withering slightly.

"The worst part is my mother intentionallyu kept us from my Dad, and I'm the only one who cartes. And she just told him we didn't want to meet him, even though I always asked about a Dad. And he's been nothing but happy to talk and get to know me better. We've taken up astronomy." She sighed, pausing to look over the octopus. Her heart leapt into her throat -- it looked like something that would be used on her homeworld, and at mention of a trade, she fumbled, fishing out the only shiny she knew of -- the small styar she'd found before putting it down and motioning to the ciompass.

"Can.. You tell me anything about this?" She asked. Was it Limopsan? A replica from somewhere else? From a star dedicated to cepholopods or a zoo? She needed to know.

He nodded as he listened; his eyes immediately went to the little gem she carried. "What would you like to know? It's old. I found it a while back. At the bottom of the ocean, nearly. Very far away. You won't find anything quite like it here on Earth. Not like that little stone you're holding. Apparently there are plenty of those lying around. But," he reached out for the compass and plucked it up before holding it out as an offering to her. "I'll trade you, anyway. Do you do a lot of sailing, or just like the design?"

Any words for her family were momentarily forgotten; he could give out sympathy after the exchange he was now so desperate to make.

The bottom of the ocean somewhere. Cherish wondered if he'd been to Limosa himself and was more than eager to hand him the little star.

"Deal. As for my inter4est it's a little bit of both, really." She could use it to look into erxploring Limosa, look into getting some investigative work on her homeworld, and trading a star was fair enough. The woman then motioned.

"I've got to admit I'm unsure where these stars come from. I'm not used to seeing them." A shrug. "But at least they make someone happy, so maybne they make others happy." Then she faltered. "The bottom of an ocean... How could anyone throw away this kind of thing...? I mean, really."

The merchant hummed, like he was considering how much information he wanted to share on the topic. The star she traded disappeared from sigh before he began speaking, safely tucked away somewhere else.

"Well," he said, and it seemed like the word lingered on his tongue before he spoke again. "I can say, those little stones aren't really very common. They aren't native to Earth. If we're being completely honest, I've followed the meteor shower here to collect them. Falling stars and all that," he waved his hand and kept his tightly pressed smile perfectly in place.

"You'd be surprised what gets lost to time. People lose treasures regularly. Misplaced, stored for safe keeping," he shrugged. "All I know is that no one was coming back for it, so it's up for grabs. And in good hands, it seems. You really care for it. Ah, good. A treasure once, a treasure again."

Cherish listened respectfully, considering the locations she might unearth more of these stars. In honesty, it sounded like some weird magic phenomenon, and that made the merchant a guest to Earth. Well, thewn!

"It seems like trhe stars turn up anyplace on the ground there's space but I'm basing my guess on a single example so therte's wild room for error. But --" She hummed. "It might help if you're trying to locate them, and I'm pretty sure I can get my boots on the ground. More eyes means more chance of finding these."

She almost wanted her father's help -- almost, but like as not he'd try to study the stars and the Merchant-Guest besides. She did smile at her compass though, a warm smile. She was already planning to cvompare iconography on Limosa to it, and she hummed thoughtfully.

"You ccertainly are well travbelled. This, this I have thoughtsd on." Shwe smiled to the compass. "Just ideas though."

"So I've heard, treasures just lying on the ground. But, I don't have time to look for them and protect my wares, so that is where the trading comes in. I've been quite fortunate, and I've as much pleasure from a good trade as knowing my wares are going to a good home. I hope the next time I visit everyone will be as friendly as before. It's not often I go about giving such good deals. But, then again, it's not every day that the stars fall from the sky like this. Are you not well-traveled, yourself? This planet is bursting with life. Have you been off of it?"

"Not as well travevelled as I might like." Cherish admitted without risking her identity as Limosa -- partly safety habits, partly due to the presence of civilians, but she did think.

"Nowhere I've seen pictures of or anything off-planet seem terribly hospitible, if at all. It's disappointing, really."

Limosa was so still that she glanced to her compass again. She needed to fix the stagnation, her head kept demanding. Fix everything.

"i CAN SAY, PEOPLE HERE DO LIKE A GOIOD DEAL , AND YOU BRING FRIENDLINESS WITH YOU -- PEOPLE RECIPROCATE THAT MORE OFTEN THAN NOT." sHE SMILED A BIT.

The man's smile was unwavering. "Ah, well you have time," he insisted. "You're still young. I'm sure there are many opportunities for you in the future. I wouldn't trust everything you see in pictures--the only way to really experience something is to go out and see it for yourself. A lot of worlds out there are," he exhaled, a pleasant sigh, "wonderful.

He seemed to be daydreaming, if only for a few seconds. "Perhaps by the time I return, you'll have stories to share with me. Maybe you'll be the one giving me tips on where to visit next, hm?"

"Perhaps! Anything is possible, really." Cherish agreed plainly and smiled patiently.

"I suppose it's a matter of getting to these places, too."

She wasn't sure senshi could visit other worlds, without permission of the 'host'. Hmmm. Things to consider asking someone with more experience.

The merchant nodded and smiled. "I suppose. I've managed just fine. I hope you get the opportunity to as well. Perhaps if I find something to help travel, I'll be back to see what Earth can trade for it. They aren't as common as they used to be, either aged into disrepair or broken altogether. And it isn't as if there's anyone out there still making them. We'll see. I have a bit of luck up my sleeve, perhaps I'll find something, yet. At the very least, I will most certainly be back."

"Well I look foirward to seeing you when you're back. Hopefully, you find plenty of useful things!" She smiled, and bowed awkwardly before motioning.

"Take care."

Cherish turned, and moved off, walking to look around, before focusing on the compass, deep in thought.
