The Wishing Tree (2) : Your wish is only said to come true if you grant the wish of someone else; when you write your wish, you must also take one off of the tree and do your best to grant it. What wish do you pull off, and how do you intend to ‘grant’ it? Do you work with someone else to grant this wish, or do you work alone? You may get approval from another player to use the wish their character hung up, but no names are attached so your character may not ever know who wrote it!
It was nice out, not too hot and not raining like it had been the day before, it was nice enough to go out to do some shopping for his mom for dinner. She'd mentioned, earlier, she needed a few things and he'd decided to offer himself up to go. Along the way he'd decided to stop by the wishing tree. He didn't intend to leave a wish, anything he might wish for wasn't likely to be granted, but he didn't mind watching innocent children place their wishes on the tree. He'd heard this years tree was quite lovely - and it was. As he got closer, close enough to see it, he stopped.
Fiona.
He didn't say anything, didn't call out, it wasn't his place. They'd once been friends...and partners. But that had all somehow changed. He wasn't even sure exactly how or why but it had just changed. They were suddenly no longer dating and she was no longer visiting his home or going to his games or practices. He wasn't picking up up from the skating rink and grabbing some food with her on the walk home.
There had been a lot of adjusting but he'd gotten used to not seeing her or talking to her, though he still missed it. Standing there he watched her...wondering how life was for her. It was when she left that he made the sudden, and perhaps rash, choice to grab her wish and write out his own to tie to the tree. Wishing for a second chance, a simple wish which people could take anyway they wanted, he hung his wish while pocketing Fiona’s - for now.
As he turned to leave, and took the first few steps, he reached into his pocket for the slip of paper and unfolded it. Reading over it he wondered who she wanted to make amends with...was it him? He didn’t think he could be so lucky...why would she even need to make amends with him? Would it be due to how suddenly things ended? That there really wasn’t a solid reason? Obviously something was eating at her...he wished he could help.
As he walked on, without doing much more than looking at the slip of paper in his hand, a vendor stopped him. They literally stopped him - reaching out to stop him from walking right into their cart. Apologizing, several times, he was surprised when they so easily accepted his apologies and handed him something - a red ribbon.
Why would he need a red ribbon? It was just a bit of satin that was a brilliant red color. There was nothing special about it, not from what he could tell, and the man had said nothing. They’d just handed it to him and sent him on his way - as it was obvious he was distracted and in a rush. Oh well...he’d find some use for it, or maybe he’d unjust use it as a book mark, he really couldn’t think of a purpose for such a thing...it was small and rather useless to him. He kept it though, tucking it and the wish into his pocket.
