She was happy to be back in Matori. While she loved the ocean she had discovered she did not like actually sailing across it. Brexxa didn't get sea sick, thankfully, but she didn't enjoy the boat travel as much as she thought she would.

Laying back on the soft sands, her feet in the water as it rolled up on shore, she closed her eyes and simply smiled. Wearing a pair of shorts and her crop top made for a nice warm day in the sun. Her head turned to the side so that she could look at her bag that was just out of reach. Not by much but it was still an effort that she didn't quite want to put in. Her hand went for it but was a few inches shy. Brexxa groaned. "Come closer.." Today was starting to look like a lazy day for her. Since she didn't have to worry about her dad's familiar or anything like that she didn't see the harm in it.

As she continued to reach she stuck her tongue out and squinted. "Come here bag.." She barely leaned that way, putting her maybe an inch closer but still out of reach. A huff of air and she 'gave up' letting her arm go limp as she closed her eyes. "Its too far."

Morain probably shouldn't have ventured off, but his siblings had gotten distracted with swimming in the ocean and... well, it looked way too DEEP. His baba had tempted him into the waters with promises to stay close, but even then the youngest triplet had come out feeling like a drowned perzi. Quickly wrapping himself back up in his papa's shawl, with the top drawn over his neck and head to keep the sun's heat off of his skin, Morain padded off along the beach and quickly became distracted with collecting shells, fragments of rock, and other pretty things washed into the silky sands.

He was so invested in his search that he hadn't realized how close he'd come to an older girl along the beach, laying in the sun and... trying to get to something. He canted his head to the side, taking in the scene, until... she stopped, and gave up. Too far? Oh!!

Eagerly, the boy (now thankfully dried from his trip into the ocean) padded forward, ducking down to pick up the straps of the bag - then tugged it over a bit until the woman could reach it. Then, he dropped it with a bright smile, his hands propped on his hips triumphantly. "I got it! Did I help?"

With her eyes closed she wasn't aware of there being someone else nearby. It was the weird sound of her bag moving across the sand and then the feeling of the traps hitting her fingers that made her open her eyes in time to catch the verbal confirmation. Brexxa blinked her eyes several times, not just because of the bright sun either. There was some strange kid there. Not that she wasn't grateful that they'd just helped her.

Her orange eyes went to her hand and the straps that were now well within reach then back to the kid. He asked if he'd helped and that brought a smile to her face. So the girl nodded her head at him. "Sure did. Thank you." Looping her fingers into the straps she tugged it closer to her, dragging it across the sand even more, until it was just where she wanted it. Under her head. That's right, she'd only wanted her bag to use as a pillow and she'd been too lazy to actually get it.

Looking at the kid again Brexxa lifted her arm so that it was extended toward them. "I'm Brexxa, nice to meet you kid." Apparently seeing little kids out on the beach without their parents was normal as this wasn't the first one she'd seen and even she'd done it when she was younger. She didn't think their parents were far though, hers hadn't been.

Oh! This was a Matori local, right? Morain bounced a little on the balls of his feet as she moved her bag, his expression brightening into a happy, giddy smile at her confirmation and thanks.

The next gesture made him falter for a moment, but he quickly extended his hand to take her hand, squeezing it the way his baba did. Firm handshakes, he'd said, let people know you were serious - whatever that meant. "My name's Morain. Are you okay? Won't you burn your face?" Morain asked with concern, gesturing towards her blue face. His own skin had shifted dark, as it always did, but even then he'd gotten a nasty sunburn on his shoulders while traveling through Jauhar and Oba - thus the shawl that was now covering his upper body like a shroud.

As the boy took her hand firmly she grinned at him. He was cute! Just like her little brother! Brexxa shifted her head a bit on her bag so that she could see him better, even in the bright light. "Burn? No." She attempted to shake her head but it was made awkward by the lumps in the bag she was using as a pillow. "As long as I don't stay out for hours I won't burn." She was lucky in that. She knew others that would burn no matter how long they stayed in the sun. It was something she couldn't imagine.

She took note of him being all wrapped up and figured he must burn easily, which would also explain his question and curiosity. "You have the right idea by wearing that if you burn though." She arched her back and tilted her head so that she could look up and behind her farther up on the shore to see if there were any good shade trees nearby. "Usually you can find a big tree to sit under too, that helps."

When that became too much effort she plopped back down and looked at Morain again, noticing that he had a few shells as a collection. One in particular had a nice coloring to it. "Oh hey, that's a nice one. Did you find it in the water or washed up in the sand?"

( I am so sorry about the wait on this!!! ;-; )

Well... no. He didn't burn too easily, thanks to his shifter skin. But he didn't like the heat, regardless. His big sister, Ygraine, had complained about sunburns before, but he'd never actually seen her with one - then again, they weren't usually traveling together too often.

Still, he preened under the older lady's praise, and for whatever reason he stayed close, instead of darting away from her again, too curious.

He followed her gaze to the trees, nodding distantly, but he was too invested in combing the beach to sit still until he had a bigger collection to admire. Speaking of... he perked up and grinned, moving to squat down next to her as he pulled the shell in question out, holding it out for her to see. "In the water! We buried my brother, see, and-- and we made a eulogy for him and put shells around him and stuff. My sister found this one but she said I could keep it."

She listened to the boy say they had buried his brother and judging from the obvious lack of upset she gathered it was a game and not an actual death. So Brexxa nodded her head as she listened. "Well that was nice of her. Sisters are awesome." She was a big sister so she had to give other sisters some credit somewhere.

As Morain crouched down beside her she smiled at him and let her eyes take in his movements. Being that he was small she didn't suspect he was going to do anything that would put her in danger so she didn't move away. And she was pleased to see the other shell he pulled out. "That is really nice. Starting a collection? Have any sand coins yet?" Brexxa was of the mind no collection was complete without a sand coin. "Those come in different sizes too."

(( Sand coin = sand dollar. Given they don't use dollar bills I figure coin would fit with the culture.))

And she was absolutely right. Then again, when the tide began to come in and they realized his brother Siel was still buried, it had been a horrifying few minutes hurriedly trying to dig him up again... and they'd been scolded by their fathers for the risk, and for ruining their clothes. But... it'd been fun, before!

Now, he nodded brightly and happily at her statement. "Yeah! Really awesome! Until she brings me a bug." He added, with a bright laugh. She was so weird!

But now, he blinked, his alkidike dark eyes piercing as he tilted his head back up to look at her. "Sand coins?" He echoed, only to gasp and dig through his little bag. When he didn't find what he was looking for, he wrinkled his nose and upended it on the sand between them, shuffling the various bits with his finger until he picked up a rounded 'shell', which he hoped was what she was talking about. "Y'know, if you want, I got a lot of really good shells. You could pay me for one-- here." He waved the 'sand coin' at her until she was forced to put out her hand, and he proudly deposited it into her palm. "Okay- so you can buy a shell. The cost is a sand coin! Oh but-- not this one... or this one--" He snatched back a few of the prettiest ones, then leaned back, beaming.

Hearing that his sister brought him a bug made her pause and stare at him with surprise for a second before she snorted and started to laugh. That was cute that he was bothered by bugs.

She looked at him again as she brought one hand up to wipe her eyes. He had dumped the contents of his bag onto the ground beside her and started to search. When he finally held up a sand coin she nodded her head at him. "Yep that's it." She always loved those. They were really cool. When she had no choice but to hold her hand out she did so and took the sand coin from him.

The game of buying from him would require her to sit up and actually take a gander but she was too lazy, so she rolled onto her side and propped her head up with one hand. Brexxa watched as he took the prettiest shells for himself and she smiled. Typical hoarder! Once the selection was shortened she gazed over them before she reached out to pick up a pink-ish looking shell. "What about this one?" She rather liked the color.

Completely oblivious of how easily the adult could see through him, Morain smiled prettily, waiting for her to make her selection. He didn't seem to mind in the least that she wasn't sitting up properly - honestly, it was preferable since she stayed at his level, now that he was settled beside her - if she sat or stood up, he might remember that she was a strange adult. For now - it was just a game!

And yes, there was something really fun about how easily she took his directions. He felt like he was like his dad, when Nimueh sold his pretty accessories at settlements, and it ... was a good feeling!

"What an impeccal eye you have!" Morain announced, theatrically, completely butchering the word 'impeccable' - that was what baba said, right? It meant he'd picked one baba liked! Morain plucked the shell up, inspecting it closely, then shuffled closer and held it out, dropping it into her palm, then held his own hand out for the sand coin.

(( sorry its so short. ))

When he picked up the shell and inspected it she waited patiently. As it was given to her she exchanged the sand coin for it. "Well thank you." Brexxa didn't even comment about him messing up the word.

"You have a wonderful selection. Made it hard to choose." She smiled and looked at her new shell. It was flipped over in her hand so she could look at it a bit more. The color was really nice. She might have to get something pink to wear later on. "I think this might be my new favorite color."

It's precious, don't be sorryyyy!

Wonderful huh? The little boy preened under the praise, settling back against his legs with a smile as she inspected her newfound shell. "It wasn't already?" Morain asked, surprised. But then, distracted, his eyes turned to the side - where a little hermit crab was scuttling along. He gasped and shot to his feet, pointing at it accusingly. "You! That guy bit Lutie yesterday--" He followed it, his shells left forgotten next to Brexxa as he sidestepped along in pace with the little crab, peering down at it.

If there was any concern he would step on, or otherwise 'punish' the crab, they were quickly washed away because he clearly had no interest in touching the crab. "Is it a little spirit that possesses shells?" He asked, suddenly, shuffling back to Brexxa's side. She was a local lady, right? So she'd know wouldn't she??

"It was not." She stated matter of factly. Brexxa's favorite color up to that point had been yellow. Although she supposed yellow and pink could both be her favorites. They went well together. The kid got distracted and she watched him as he yelled at a crab then followed it.

Her own little brother did similar things so she didn't seem concerned at all for the crab, though she was surprised he let it go. Brexxa noted the reluctance to actually touch the thing. His question caught her a little off guard though. "A wha-.. no. No, there's a creature in there." She blinked a few times in utter amazement that he didn't know that then shifted so that she could grab one of his shells and lift it up. It was similar to what the hermit crab had been in only a bit smaller.

Turning the shell over so that he could see the opening she pointed. "The creature.. the crab.. lives inside the shell. When he grows to be too big he goes and finds a bigger shell." Of course she wasn't quite sure where the shell came from. The crab didn't make it so it was a mystery to her. But she did know that there was no spirit in the shell.

Morain watched her expectantly. She was an adult, after all, and that meant she knew everything! And... sure enough, she explained that there was a tiny creature inside the shell. What?! How could it be so tiny then?! But he leaned in and gazed, wid-eyed, at the shell she used as an example, peering into the little hole. "My baba says that's where the ocean sings from though." Morain murmured, confused.

He paused a moment, reaching to take the shell from her, turning it over. "So... so I've been stealing crab houses?" He ventured quietly, seeming regretful and upset at his own treachery.

Brexxa gave a small chuckle and nodded her head at the boy's words. "Well he's not wrong. You can hear the ocean sing when the shell is empty." She held it out to Morain to take. She motioned for him to put it to his ear so that he could listen. "When the crab lives in it you can't hear the ocean."

He was cute when he mentioned that he was stealing crab houses. It made Brexxa smile at him and she had to resist the urge to hug him for being adorable. "Yes and no. It's an old house so they aren't in them anymore. And as long as you don't take all of them then they will always have a house somewhere out there." In truth she was just repeating what her dad had told her when she was younger. She'd done and asked the same questions. It made her feel very mature to impart the same wisdom that her dad had.
