It was hard to believe that she was here, in the marshes of Kahikina, with her mother and sister. When she raced after Lumikani, she didn't realize she was running away from her family who she wouldn't see for years. Had she know, she would have woken them up to make sure they all went together. The reunion was sweet, but still Zayana had a deep pit in her stomach from anxiety and struggled to connect with her sister.
It also didn't help that her sister brought a friend.
Zayana grinned cheekily as she was introduced to Pyrrha, raising her brows at Kanika behind the strange girl's back.
But she didn't go as far to ask about the what behind their relationship, instead keeping it light and explaining why she was there and offering to lead the way to the new isle. A few others had visited, curious Aishans, but still the group on the isle was small. Nowhere near as large as the extremists who traveled to Yael for the first time, it was an intimate group. Zayana knew some day the group would grow.
Looking back toward her sister, Zayana quickly moved closer and grinned.
"Careful, there's big creatures in the marshes that would eat you up before you had a chance to scream...."
It was a half jest and her attempt at breaking the ice.

The reunion had been bittersweet for Kanika, both with her mother and her sister. She was still angry, having carried that anger across the sea to the mainland and then once again to Kahikina. And here she was. She’d almost been as angry with Zandala who had seemed to take everything in stride as if there wasn’t a care in the world. Did she not have anger? Had she not felt dejected like Kanika had?
“I need to speak with you privately,” Kanika said sternly. She’d tried to smile and at least seem pleasant, but now she needed to have a conversation with her sister away from prying eyes. If it was up to her, she would have dragged her sister off into the marches to have their talk by now. However, she didn’t want her mothers to worry.

Well, that was abrupt. Looks like they'd address the Limbara in the forest right now, then. Zayana's grin slipped away to a more serious look, one familiar among the Elaria. It was the look of aloofness and determination, of a race of warriors who hid emotions behind closed huts. It was a look prepared for battle, and she had a feeling this would at least be an attack.
Looking toward the small group, Zayana made sure they were still leading but far enough away from curious ears.
"This path is easy enough to follow without a guide..." She replied, nodding to move further ahead and letting her sister lead the conversation. She knew she didn't have much right to say anything outside of an honest explanation.

Kanika followed after her sister, she felt they were still too close even while ahead but still. Better to get this out now then later. “I hope you’ve been enjoying yourself,” she said sourly. “You just up and left with mom without so much as a goodbye. My own sister, vanishing into the night and then having to defend you against the others when in reality, they were right.” The Elaria threw her hands up in the air. “It’s hurtful, what you and Lumikani did has cut deep and it’s a wound I still carry.” And she didn't know if it would ever close up and get better. Even now, she felt like she was walking next to a stranger and not her sister. “Didn’t even send word you were okay,” she continued. “You could have died and we would never have known what happened.” Kanika shook her head, stomping as she went through the brush. She was trying to keep her voice down so they didn’t make a scene.

Zayana kept quiet, moving steadily forward and letting Kanika get what she needed out. In the years since she'd been on this island, she learned how to listen and observe. Her mother wasn't one for words, and being alone in the woods meant she was even more used to being alone and not saying much. Observe, learn, and adapt. It was easy enough.
One thing was clear, was that Kanika never got her message. She cursed herself mentally for not finding someone to deliver it personally, but the odds of an earthling going to Zenris was slim to none. And no one would take a note from them, alive or dead.
As Kanika stomped, Zayana let out a sigh.
"You've let your assumptions run away from you, Kanika." she said in a neutral tone. She wasn't picking a fight, but she wasn't going to let her sister bully her. They may have been apart for years, but that didn't make her weak, "I'm willing to give you answers, but only those of my own. You'll need to seek out Mother Lumi's when we make it to Kiros."

“Don’t worry, I most definitely plan on asking mother for her own answers.” It was strange, the sister she had known so well felt like a stranger now. While Kanika would have considered them a unit before, now the years had molded and shaped them into two very different people. She knew something like this might have happened, but to be faced with it was a whole different feeling. It would have happened at one point, but she hadn’t expected them to be this different. Still, she loved her sister even if she’d been mad at her all this time.
“So what have you been up to all this time?” She asked, trying to keep the bitterness and frustration from her voice as they moved through the forest. She lightened her step to become as silent as she’d been trained to do back home. She’d dived into her training when her mother and sister had left, there had always been watchful eyes on her, seeking any fault that might drive her to run away as well. Over time, Kanika had ignored the pressure of those eyes, but she’d become a very good warrior in the process.
