While Caolan was technically too young to leave the house on his own most of the time, today was an exception. ... Err... well, not an exception really, because he still wasn't ALLOWED to, but today was so important that he ignored his mom's rules and sneaked past his sisters to do it anyway. It had been forever ( to him ) since dad was home, and Caolan had every intention of being there when he made landfall.
... Of course, it took a bit longer for the ship to empty than he'd expected. Caolan huffed as he waited along the edge of the dock, one of a number of people waiting for loved ones. The ship had rang out over an hour ago, but no one had stepped off yet. He'd been so eager that he'd left his paints out at home, and had been too hasty to even consider washing the mess off himself. His fingers had smeared paint into his tunic, over his cheek where he brushed his hair away, and they themselves were stained yellows, oranges, and blues.
Bouncing on the balls of his feet, Caolan perked up when finally the gangway crashed from the ship and onto the wood of the docks - and crowds of people (foreigners, and Yaeli coming home from abroad) finally disembarked. Dad would be here today, he thought excitedly, shuffling his way to the front of the crowd, eyes bright with excitement.

While Kieran loved the thrill of adventure the man also enjoyed returning home to Yael. Before when he didn't have a family waiting on his return the man would spend months if not years overseas. Now he was impatient for even a couple of days travel after a two month venture over to Matori. Even as he perched on the top deck, a sketchbook propped up and opened in his lap as he sat crossed legged on top of a large crate, the man found his sketches returning to images of his family. How big would the twins be by now? The thought brought a small smile to his lips as he drew another line onto the parchment. It had only been a few weeks but Kieran was already missing them. He had been like this with the girls when they were younger but when they had grown into teens the Yaeli man had gotten more comfortable venturing away for more than just a few weeks at a time. Now that he had two younglings running about Kieran almost felt like a new parent again. He couldn't help worrying while he was away and he was thankful for the letter that he had received from Taijana while he was overseas that confirmed everything was indeed okay at home.
And like usual his worries manifested into the bulging travel bag that rested by his feet. Gifts from Matori resided inside and everyone one in the family would be receiving something once he arrived back home. Speaking of which... They were docking soon, correct? Kieran smiled as he noticed the shoreline in the distance. He was finally home. Closing the clasp on his journal, the Yaeli slipped from his perch and prepared to walk behind the crowds as the passengers began disembarking from the ship. Surely though he had been thinking too much on his family because when his feet did touch land again Kieran swore he saw his son, "Caolan?" He called out as soon as he recognized that it was indeed his child. Kieran only hesitated a moment, his brow furrowing with confusion as he realized that he didn't see anyone else, before he quickly slipped around others so that he could scoop his child up in his arms, "What are you doing here?"

Dad! Caolan was so short that he had completely missed his father stepping down from the ship, hidden as he was behind the crowds. But he heard him, clear as day, calling his name ... and as soon as the boy spotted his father, he was already tugged up into his arms. The boy preened at the affection and slung his arms eagerly around his father's neck, too happy and excited to see him after what felt like forever to even pretend to be guilty about what he'd done.
"Dad!" He chirped, squishing their cheeks together, his crystals clacking softly against the metal of his father's glasses. "I came to bring you home! We all missed you so bad, I just had to!"

Kieran couldn't help the soft smile that spread across his features at his son's adorableness, "Oh really?" He replied with a quiet chuckle, "Did you at least tell your mama that you were coming to the docks?" He could already imagine the panic that his wife would be in once she discovered Caolan was missing. If so they definitely would have to hurry home. While he was glad to see his son, Kieran could only imagine Taijana's worry. He was just thankful Caolan had made it safely and found him. He didn't even want to think about what he would do if something had happened to Caolan. Kieran was a patient man but when it came to his family he would be willing to tear the whole island apart if necessary.
Ah, but I'm supposed to at least do a little lecture in these situations. It was hard considering that the adventurer was one who did not often follow his own guidelines that he had settled on with his wife for their children, "Caolan." Kieran started off as he carefully and gently set his son back on the ground, "You shouldn't have come alone. What if something had happened?" He reached down and mussed his son's hair, "Though I'm terribly happy to see you I would be really sad if you got into trouble because of me, okay?" He wasn't the most stern about lectures but at least Kieran did let his son know that if something would happen he would be very upset.

(3/10) Did... he...? Caolan's mouth opened into an 'o', then shame flooded his features, and instantly he ducked his head, answering his father's question without words. He was set down then, a distance from the docks, where he shuffled his feet a bit and pouted, only to whine softly as his hair was ruffled. " It didn't though...!" He pointed out sadly. " And... and I'm a big kid now, dad, I - I made paint! Like you showed me!" " So I can do it! I can come get you, see?"
