Prompt - A Destiny City Star Festival Tradition to be held every year; In Town Square, there is a beautiful tree with spreading branches. It is tall, but the lowest branches are easily reached. The city has decorated the tree with small, starlike ornaments and glistening lights. Thick leaves and beautiful purple flowers dangle from the branches, along with a myriad of different colored papers with handwritten wishes. Next to the tree is a stack of blank paper with twine attached, and a handwritten sign that explains: Write your wish on a sheet of paper and tie it to the tree. Take one wish off the tree and do your best to grant it. When you have granted the wish, bury the paper in the park. The papers are biodegradable and filled with seeds. There are no rules for wishing, but you are encouraged to wish for something vague enough that it can be interpreted in many ways so that it can be granted; you do not write your name on it, but it is encouraged to write something that doesn’t wish for self gain, but rather something that can make the world a better place. Some wishes dangling from the tree already include things like “I wish there wasn’t so much litter in the park,” “I wish someone would clean the graffiti off the old historic buildings,” and “I wish there were more volunteers at the shelter.” If you choose to use the Wishing Tree, what do you wish for? If your wish is private, you may write it on the paper and choose a spot in the park and bury it yourself instead of hanging it on the tree.Dria wandered through the Festival, looking here and there, at the shops and the stalls. But what was really calling her was the the enormous evergreen tree in the center of the festival. Strange to have an evergreen in the summer, but hey, it worked. She moseyed along, but kept looking at the tree. It seemed to have little white things tied to it. "Hmm, what are those things," She murmured to another young woman around her age, passing her, but really to no one in particular.

Blair had come to the festival mostly to check if she could sell some of her wares, but unfortunately had come too late to try to do so. Well, that was her fault for not requesting a space three months ago! Still, there appeared to be plenty to see and do, including a tree with wishes on it. She had heard about it last year, but hadn't been able to go herself as she had caught a terrible summer cold. How it had happened was beyond her but she was sure that one opponent of hers had coughed on her, spreading it on purpose! She heard someone murmur to themselves wondering what was on the tree and Blair couldn't help but comment. "Those are wishes people wrote down! They say if you grant someone else's wish, that yours should come true. Though they can't be specific or impossible." Ending global warming was a nice wish, but not something that could be done by one person unless they ruled the entire world. "I was going to go and check it out for myself after looking at more of the festival, but we can look at it together if you want?" She had no idea who the other woman was, but hey, might as well get some chit-chat going! Even if the other rejected the offer, that meant that Blair would be able to check out more of the festival earlier.

Dria turned to the woman who had answered her question unexpectantly and smiled . "Ah, thank you very much, I would like that. My name is Dria. What about you?" She held out her hand to shake.

Blair couldn't help but grin widely. "Blair. It's nice to meet you Dria! And to be honest, I'm glad I'm not going there alone. Something about going there by myself seems a bit awkward, but with someone else it should be fun!" She replied, taking the other's hand and shaking it. After the shake was done she turned in the direction of the tree and waited for her new "companion" join her on their journey over to it. "You here just to enjoy the festival Dria?"

Dria nodded and smiled. "Well that and... I'm looking for a place to live. My parents have um.. finally decided that its long past time to kick my twin brother and me out of the proverbial nest, so to speak.. So I'm trying to get the lay of the land." She grinned. "I'm glad too." They had arrived at the wishing tree.

"I hope they've given you enough time! It's not too easy if you have a small time limit or something. I'm still living with my parents myself until I can finally land a job. Not that I haven't been trying, but I just haven't found a full-time job that I really want. I want to be a police detective, but with being too young I can't even try to enter yet so... have to find something else until then!" She had her jewelry-making side business sure, but it wasn't enough to pay the bills. Just a few of them and then leave her money for either saving or spending on herself. She saved most of it though. "If I do find a job and you're still looking though, I'd be willing to try to be roomies if you want!"When they finally looked at the tree, Blair could see that it was quite popular. "Well, at least we aren't the only ones trying this!" She said, grinning. "Just have to write down our wishes then!" Though what vague-like wish she wanted to fulfill she would have to think about.

Dria smiled. "They have." Her eye crinkled humorously at the irony. "My twin just got a job as a police officer. Small world!" They arrived at the tree. It was very popular. Dria immediately got her slip of paper and tie, but paused for a long minute, thinking of what she would write. Then it hit her. There is so much evil in this world. I wish that the person that reads this note would counteract that evil, by doing one small act of kindness each day. With a thoughtful look, Dria tied the note to the tree.

"Well that's good. Too many kick people out with less than a month's notice and that is bad for anyone who doesn't already have the money yet." She perked up at the mention of her brother being a police officer. "Really? Mind introducing me sometime? I feel like I'm going to need all of the connections and tips that I can get if I want to be a detective." Sure, she could read as much as she wanted, but then she had to actually get the job, the hardest part. She looked at the paper for a bit while Dria was writing hers down, wondering what exactly to put on it. After all, these were supposed to be super vague... and not selfish. She shrugged and quickly wrote: People should be happier. I wish that that whoever reads this does something to make themselves happy every day.Hopefully that would be enough. She knew it would be harder for some people to fulfill it, but it's what she thought of and tied it to the tree, glad that she wasn't doing it by herself. She turned again to her new acquaintance. "Least I got something down! Though now we need to take one ourselves..." She started to mutter the last part while looking at the tree. Should she go for the higher ones? Or maybe the ones that were more hidden...

Dria nodded. "Sure thing." She looked away out of respect while Blair wrote hers, then watched as she tied hers up. While Blair was busy discussing which one to take down. Dria snuck behind Blair's back and took hers down. "Got one. But remember, we're not allowed to show one another." Dria kept a straight face, but her mischievous side was bouncing and wanting to get out!

Blair hadn't seen which one that Dria had grabbed as she was grabbing her own. "Yep. Though I mean, it's already no longer a secret if more that one person knows." She said chuckling a bit. "Ah well, that doesn't mean it won't be fun!" She hadn't read it yet, but hopefully it would be something that she would be comfortable doing. After all, she didn't want to have to do something like "brighten some unlucky guy's day" or whatever. That would lead to a horribly awkward conversation. She looked back at Dria. "You going to hang around the festival more?"

Dria shook her head and slipped Blair's paper into her pocket. "Nah but I'm coming back tonight to see the star show, you? What do you think come back with family? I can't."

She shrugged. "They didn't really want to come. All of them are a bit busy right now, or at least want to stay indoors. Don't know why when there's such nice weather outside. Too bad you can't though, but at least you came now!" She took a deep breath inside. "It was good to make your acquaintance though Dria. Glad that I was able to talk to someone here."

Dria frowned, her new friend had misunderstood her. "Oh, I'm coming. I just can't come with family. Drew, my twin has to work, it's his first week on the job. Aunt Dia has finally been able to start up college again - she had to leave to raise my sister Dani for some time - but that is another story. Dad is busy at work - Super busy. He's CEO at the family business, Bones Engineering." Dria paused, wondering if her new friend would know the name, it had been doing well lately. "Dad's busy cause Aunt Dia finally told Dad she wanted to finish college, and she's sorry but she did not want to work as his personal assistant for the rest of her life. She loves helping the family, but it was time." She let that sink in, "Dad was like, 'it's about time'. Sorry I'm rambling. He's also busy because Mom, who is his top Engineer, took Maternity Leave." She really let that sink in, for she, Dria was 19. "It wasn't planned. Just one day, Mom wasn't feeling well, went to the doctor and wham! We found out she was pregnant with twins!" She grinned. "Oh, she is not here because she has morning-sickness. And lastly, but not least, my sister Dani, who is 11, didn't come because she is trying to help take care of Mom at home." Dria cringed and blushed. She really had been rambling!

"Oh, okay!" Blair had just misunderstood then! She didn't know anything about Bones Engineering though. Though she figured she may have seen the name around here and there. Though she realized that Dria may have been sharing a bit too much with what had been happening with her family to Blair, but perhaps she just didn't have someone to talk to about it? Blair smiled. "Well, sounds like they're very busy then! I know what that's like, at least the busy-ness." Her own parents were often quite busy, but being an only child she didn't have to deal with all of the sibling stuff. "At least you can go out and relax. I hope that the rest of your family will be able to relax as well. Too much work and no play can really put stress on a person." Which is why she used roller derby to let it all out herself. Nothing like exhausting yourself in a game and having to use a little physical force to beat your opponent! She always felt drained after a match.

Dria blushed again. "So, uh, will I see you here? Uh I mean tonight?" Now that Dria was embarrassed, she started to stutter a little. She also felt a little sad. She and Drew always loved watching the stars together, and when they couldn't it usually meant something bad had happened. She tried to reassure herself that this time, the reasons were good, Drew had a job as a police officer with a mentor he liked. Yet, she still felt a little nostalgic. It may have shown on her face.
