Athena stretched feeling something within leaving her to seek out what her mind had been whispering to her. Ever since the festival had ended she sought to find the knowledge granted from the mysterious crystals. Only a few were brought back from the Barrens leaving her to decide who she'd obtain one from. Homewood welcoming as always held a significant tone to its gentle surroundings. Thinking back on the barrens she noted the wold's vibes were more in sync here with the foliage and life rather a vagueness settled in the unknown. Everything she'd ever known was opening to a wide berth of knowledge even the nouls themselves were trying to decipher. Still, she yearned to learn and evolve with her surroundings wherever her delicate paws would carry her.
First off though it was time for a quick wash of the face, tail, and paws before she could touch one of those crystals.
Dipping her pink hands with curled manicured claws she pulled up water from the lucid stream splashing it on her face. paws to face she began combing the fresh dirt from her face where she had slept. Then the shoulders, back, and finally the tail her eyes glimmered feeling refreshed.
"You're Athena, right? From the festival?"
She blinked with a nod turning to see who this speaker was. Turned out it was the buck Tsarine who had raised the unruly Pippen from the Barrens.
"Yes. You are correct. Tsarine is your name, I think?" she wiggled her nose looking up at him since he was a bit taller than her.
"Correct" he nodded as his adept marking shimmered in the speckled sunlight not shadowed by the trees. Carrying the beloved blue bucket he reached inward retrieving a blue crystal that he had placed carefully with other items. A rumor had spread over Homewood that these dire rats carried an adept possibility to gain magic. So, naturally, Tsarine sought her out since she was a quiet soul. Placing the crystal before her he spoke, "Go on, it's yours now. Pippen is too unruly and ornery to have one just yet".
"For me?" she blinked looking down at the stone then reached her paws toward it. "Thank you, Tsarine", she murmured.
As he nodded and headed off carrying his bucket she smiled with excitement. As her paws touched upon the stone she noticed the blue light becoming so bright she had to close her eyes. Unsure what was happening Athena merely accepted what was occurring leaving her senses wide open she awaited what was going to happen next.

The blue crystal begins to glow. With a crackle, it shatters and a burst of bright light engulfs Athena.

Athena had felt the power swirling around her eyes searching for an exit from the light blinding her. After blinking a few times she realized her paws were touching upon something cold as the light faded away instantly. Her surroundings were unclear, a place she'd never set foot or paw upon. It was cold, damp, not to mention the stench forgotten to most filled her senses like a freshly cooked meal going rotten.
Was this the dream state the nouls were placed in by the huge Great Tree that gifted them powers?
Sniffing the air she pondered why this dream had transported her here in this dank place most nouls wouldn't even tread. Immediately, she sought an answer as her nose twitched trying to figure out where she was. This definitely wasn't Homewood, nor the Barrens as she could sense stale water tainted with age. Could possibly be the Bog yet the footing here was foreign with inset dampness. Tapping her chin with her claws she figured it out.
Satisified she thought on her next move or rather a requirement for advancing to the finish of this message she was dropping within. Then she noticed a huge well leading deep within the ground. Using her hands for support from falling, she peered into the darkness wondering what was down there. This was something the "Others" had left in their passing but, what was its purpose she wondered. Turning to walk away from the well she caught a sound, faint at first calling out...
"Help. Please, someone, I Need Help!"
Athena's bright dark eyes widened leaving her to look over the well once more. Being a dire rat she had an amazing sense of hearing leaving her to believe she definitely heard a voice in the darkness. The smell was rank as it climbed upwards toward her. Perhaps, some wind had traveled in the tunnel making it sound like a voice?
"Please help! I...can't get out!"
Athena blinked hearing it the second time. Someone was in need of help but, that well carried on for an eternity she was she. Perhaps it was a noul trapped from another entrance? No, she wasn't sure what, who was becoming a call for assistance. All she knew was they needed reassurance.
"Hello? "she called down as her echo carried downward, "Are you injured?"
Patiently, she waited for an answer. This creature was trapped so she would do her best to help out.
"Please. I need your help!"
Athena twitched her nose thinking, "I need to find something to assist them even if I can't get down the well". Then she set off to find something, anything able to help. Letting her paws do the work she set out seeking anything that would help the other in need. Running past a stock room which may have been a bunker she found bottles of water, rope, and some bags of nourishment that didn't smell overly rotten. Racing back to the well's edge she called out again, "I can't reach you but I found some things that might assist you to get out of there. I know it a long way down but, I'm going to try lowering them down to you".
First the water she tied into the rope feeding it down into the darkness till the rope could reach no more. Feeling nothing on the other end she pulled it back up realizing the rope was empty. Quickly, she tied the bagged food the same way dropping it down. There was no way to reach them but, perhaps this would keep them alive for a while longer. Peering int the darkness she waited listening before pulling up the rope once more. Both the food and bottled water had vanished leaving only the rope left. If the other was stuck down there she wouldn't have the strength to pull them up. Pondering once more she knew the last remaining thing to do. "Here, this is the last thing I could give you. Perhaps you'll discover a way to find a way out". Taking her hands Athena worked a loop in the rope then secured it over a strange metal pipe till it had a nice stable feel to it. Tugging the rope, she leaned over the well once more,"I don't have the strength but, perhaps you can pull yourself out?"
Suddenly, the light returned taking the darkness away leaving Athena's keen ears to hear something before everything vanished.
"Thank you".
A mesmerizing brightness returned her back at Homewood. Staring quizzically down at her paws the crystal had vanished leaving a cloud of blue dust swirling in the breeze. Somehow she felt accomplished standing there knowing she had passed her test.
