Quote:
You meet an elder noulicorn while travelling the Barrens. They appear near death and cannot stand. They ask you for water. You know it’s almost a day’s journey to the nearest water source and you can’t be certain the elder will live that long.
What do you do?
Brownie watches in is shock as the blue crystal shatters in his hands and light surrounds him. Fear races through his heart and he has no idea what is about to happen. Closing his eyes and holding his breath he hopes that where happens does not hurt and ends soon.
The light fades and the world seems to quite. Letting out his breath, Brownie opened his eye to find himself in the Barrens which was not at all by his den anymore and Adahy was nowhere in sight. Look this way and that Brownie tried to make since of what had happened. The Barrens was not a place he wanted to be at but somehow he had managed to get here.
"Young Dire might you have a drink of water?" An old and raspy voice from behind him. Jumping around to face the voice, Brownie came face to face with an old and clearly unhealthy doe noul. Sadness washed over Brownie as he release that the only water around that he knows for sure of is more then day walk and this noul does not look like she will make it that far. Looking all around them he searches for anything thing that might fixes this problem.
It was then that he spotted a tall but sad looking cactus. He remembered that is mother once told him if he even got caught in the Barrens with out any water that though there was not many around sometimes one could find a cactus filled with water.
"Come with me." he spoke to the doe in hopes to find water and get the noul into the shade that cactus offered. Nudging up to the noul he supported her weight as best he could as then move over to the plant. It was slow going and once they had reached the shade, Brownie was sure he would die himself.
"Ok now for some water." He said to the noul with more confidence then he felt. Biting a notch into the cactus he cupped his hands under the whole and waited for the water. I took a minute but then drips started to fill his paws. Once filled he waked it over the noul who emptied his paws. He repeated this action five more times before taking a paw full for himself.
"Thank you young Dire your heart is pure as ever." She smiled up at him. "
Now I can go knowing I was cared for one last time." Brownie looked at the noul in disbelief and shock.
"What? No you don't have to go. I will help you. I can bring you food and water until you are strong again." Tears flowed down Brownie's cheeks as he openly cried.
"Oh sweet Dire do not cry over this old bag of bones. It is the Great Trees will." She tried to comfort him even though she was the one passing. Brownie nodded with understanding though his heart was braking for this noul that would soon pass.
"I will stay with you then until you have found your way to peace." He said with a comforting tone and laid down next to the dying noul. As they laid together the old noul hummed a sweet child like melody. He quietly cried lessoning to her song until the mumming stopped and her last breath left her lungs. Then Brownie whaled loudly for the lose.
As the last of his tears slipped form his eyes, Brownie stood to leave.
"I will forever remember you and your song." Then turned to find his way back to the Homewoods.
A bright light filled the world around Brownie and he was once again in the Homewood and by his den. Adahy lay across form him watching and protecting Brownie. Tears still threatening to spill over got him a worried look form Adahy.
"Are you ok? What happened?" Brownie simple shook his head and waited in his layed spot for whatever might happen next.
