You awaken in an area of complete darkness. The smells are strange and unfamiliar and the only sound is softly dripping water. As you stand, you realize there are stones closing in all around you. You’re in a maze and you need to find your way free while effectively blind.
What do you do?
Mahpiya's world fell away as the vision form the Great Tree took hold. It was like she was falling into a deep sleep which she was in get need of. He eyes fluttered and then darkness took her. It was a wonderful warm feeling really and she strangely welcomed it with open hoof.
Drip Drip Drip.
The sound of water dripping into her mind was irritating and annoying and completely ruining her wonderful sleepy feeling she had been feeling moments ago.
"Why is there water dripping?" She wondered her den was no where near water that could be heard for this very reason. Had it rained in the night and she had slept through it. Not likely?
Drip Drip Drip
"Fine I am up! Ok!" she yelled out but was surprised when her own voice echoed back to her several times. Her eyes now open she is in total darkness. Standing to her hoofs she is both confused and a little worried.
"Where am I? How did I did I get here?" her thoughts raced around trying to make since of the situation.
Walking a couple of paces forward she finds a cold stone wall and she begins feeling around trying to find an edge or direction. It not long before she find a dead end by feel along.
"Clearly this is not going to work." She voiced in frustration and pity for herself. Then she remembers something her father had once told her.
"Someday you might not be able to see if that happens, little one, remember you can always follow your nose." She had not given it much though at the time but now she was grateful to have a father that taught her survival skills.
Sticking her nose straight up into the air, Mahpiya started smelling the air and allowed her nose but the guide. As she approached her first fork in the maze panic rose to the for front of her mind.
"Well no which way do I go." "Girl you need to claima down." Her muse snapped at her. It was true she really did but being out of control was a hard thing for Mahpiya.
With a deep breath she put she nose in the air again and smelled both directions. One way had a dusty and moldy death type mess which made her nose crinkle. The other path smell like rain water and the blasted dripping sound was much louder.
"Well there is no way I am going down the death smelling path." Her muse nodded vigorously in complete agreement. Heading down the other path Mahpiya found that many more choices like this one would have to be made but they came more easily when she did not get into her own way that was.
Eventually she emerged in the chilled night air of the barrens. Not far form where she came out was the Grandfather Tree. With a forceful pulling motion she is sucked back to the base of the Great Tree and into herself again. a rush of air whooshes out of her.
"Well you could have dropped me off a little more nicely." she complains but finds she can not really hate to much; after all it was the Great Tree she would be hating on. Shifting her weight she waits in silence for the results of her quest.
