Not a lot had happened in the earlier years. Or at least none that Eihari could really remember. Nothing so exciting that she jumped up and down in joy or that made a memorable imprint on her young mind. It was all recent things that stood out to her in the past five years.
Last year her mother had brought home a Guqin for her. A huge surprise for Eihari because she hadn’t thought her mother would approve so much of the path she’d chosen. She always thought her Alkidike mother would be disappointed that she hadn’t chosen to take after her. But the understanding that her mother had was monumental. It had made Eihari feel guilty for thinking otherwise. Plus she hadn’t thought that her mother even knew what a Guqin was!
Okay, to be fair her mother hadn’t known. It had just been an instrument that was at the market that day and was cheap enough for her mother to buy and tote home. Her mother had also made the argument that it wasn’t a drum and wouldn’t drive everyone in the house crazy. Which Eihari completely understood. Drums could be loud and annoying when one was trying to relax. The Guqin was a soft stringed instrument with a nice sound.
Then more recently there had been the mention of a new land having been discovered. Apparently some sailors or another had spotted it and sent word. Of course it wasn’t long before explorers jumped at the opportunity and more information about the place had come flooding back into the market squares and tiny villages. New land was always exciting. Especially when it held it’s own people!
That had gotten Eihari’s attention. Mostly because they had been told to be fish people. Similar to the Matori but not. They could live in the water and stay under the surface for as long as they wished. While she was a hybrid, part alk and part water, she did not have that trait. None of the water tribe did come to think of it. They had the fin ears, which were kinda cute, and the markings on their skin but that was about it. There were no scales, no gills, no whiskers. Some of the descriptions she’d heard while listening in at the market had been off the wall. Others less so.
There was one that stood out to her though. Some had some glowing feelers. Being that she didn’t trust something that glowed. Case in point being the Yaeli with their glowing eyes. The Yaeli came from a poison island so they must have the poison in their system. They ate what came from their land right? And if it was all poison then it made sense.
Eihari didn’t mind so much since it was said only some of the new people had the glowing part. Did that mean only some of them were poison? Was it like all of Tendaji where they were as different and from one another as the earthlings? If so then that would be amazing. She wanted to see for herself but dreaded the idea of running into some that were dangerous.
But all the rumors of the new people that had been discovered said they were a peaceful people. Which was good for her. As a budding minstrel she needed to travel and see the world to gather songs and learn new cords of music. So if she went there she might be one ot the first minstrels to come back with their songs.
It was a thought to be sure. One that had her super excited about the whole thing. Eihari found that she was curious to know what type of instruments they had. Which ones dominated over there? Did they even work in the water? Strings likely wouldn't. Drums probably. The percussion would still travel through the water.
As she thought about that she leaned forward and sat her chin in her hands as her elbows rested on her knees. Sitting as she was she could easily day dream about the instruments the new land would have.
“I wonder what they prefer.” She said aloud.
Did they like to simply sing? If so she could introduce the sound of a stringed instrument to them. Wow them with her skills! The thought made her grin. It paid to have ambition. And the more she thought about this the more she wanted to go! Now all she needed to do was get older quickly so she could go off on an adventure on her own!
