Prompt The world has opened to new possibilities. Where once they thought they were alone, now they discovered creatures never before imagined.
How does your character react to the introduction of Kahikina to Tendaji? This prompt can be anything, a way to cope, a way to learn more, even the first time they meet the other race. The main focus is discover and evaluation of this new world.
"So you see I really would love to have someone to help me with repairs..." Ephrym sighed as another carpenter moved away from him. Out of all things. The young swordsman shrugged before walking away from the shop and back towards the docks, his averin perched tightly on his shoulder, "You would think they would be more than eager to go explore." He commented as he passed another small berry to his familiar, "Maybe it's you. You must be super intimidatin'."
Honestly as Ephrym walked along the docks, further away from the main area and closer towards the more wild shoreline, he couldn't help but to let his shoulders slump just a little bit. The young man had spent the last five years building up his strength and had even invested in a ship of his own. So why not take this perfect opportunity to look for fellow adventurers who could go and explore this new Kahi place with him? They could probably get a nice profit if they could find a good trade with the underwater race. I'm sure some of their trinkets would go for a shiny coin or two here at home. But how could he go out and about without having at least one person who could do ship maintenance? Ephrym was a dreamer but no fool. He just had to find someone to help him out!
Who would be willing to go with a young lad full of hopes and dreams but with no experience of the world outside of Belrea?

Not too far off from the forlorn young man, Yokka found herself snarling and chucking a wrench in a coworker's direction, not too worried if she actually hit him. "Use the one-eighth! One-eighth! Are you trying to break the head?" Ignoring the whining plea she got in return, she huffed and hopped down onto the dock. "Here I am, tryin' to get this ship ready, and Norm goes and hires the cheapest little losers he can find," she growled, pulling out the ribbon to let her hair flow freely. She was so tired of working for practically nothing, but she was still a newer face in the work. A few nice references under her belt didn't exactly hold the weight she needed to get the good jobs yet.
Settling for cheap work sucked, but that was how she was going to build a reputation and save up enough for a real ship. A whole world had been waiting out there across the sea, and now even more was being discovered, and she was still stuck on Belrea! "Kahikina's gonna be old news by the time you morons finish!" .....well, that was probably another job she could mark as down the drain. Working well with others was much harder than she had thought it would be.

Ephrym's footsteps halted. Did he hear yelling? Of course that wasn't too uncommon down in this area of the docks, but the intensity and the tone....well that was impressive. It also sounded like a woman's voice which definitely spiked his intrigue. Who would be so worked up? Another geian man brushed past muttering something about some tantrum throwing crazy carpenter and Ephrym definitely found himself turning back around to head that way. Crazy in his book after all could mean passionate about their work. He would definitely try to invest in someone like that!
"Sounds like a rough mornin'." Ephrym offered slyly as he walked up towards a geian woman. She had even mentioned Kahikina! Was this his chance? What if she had a ship that was already almost ready to go? It just needed a few things looked over and someone to help keep it in shape....his gaze gleamed at the hopeful thought. Was she the one that he had been looking for the past couple of days? Please, please fit the bill.

Face flushed with her frustration, Yokka took a long breath and started to tie her hair back up. This job was the closest she had come to leaving the island. If she didn't salvage this, the others would whine to the boss and get her fired for sure! It was a crappy job, but the ship was good. If she could just survive until they got to Kahikina, she could surely find a better crew to join there.
The new voice made her turn though, pale eyes squinting suspiciously at the stranger. "You better not be planning to make it worse," she warned, giving the ribbon a firm tug to secure it in her hair and add emphasis to her point. The man seemed to be approaching with a purpose though, and she found herself waiting to see what was coming rather than hopping back onto the ship. Just a short breather would do no harm, and she could use the distraction.

"Hopefully not." Ephrym held up his hands in defense, "Actually I was hopin' ta make it a bit better." He replied lightly with a grin, "Seems like those deadbeats don't understand the importance of their project." He offered as he lowered his hands so that he could stroke his chin thoughtfully. If he could play this just right then perhaps he would be setting sail soon? Here was hoping that would be the case. Ephrym was itching to explore this new world and the first to come back and forth surely would be able to sell any discoveries for some good coin!
"Actually seems a shame that they wouldn't appreciate a good worker like you." He added in, "Of course I haven't studied much myself but from what I saw earlier seems like you're really into it. Could make any ship sail if they'd work with ya." Ephrym nodded thoughtfully, "Would have loved to have help like that with my ship. It's actually pretty fixed up, just needs some minor work before I set sail for the new islands myself."

Yokka continued her suspicious glare, watching the stranger carefully. "They wouldn't know 'important' if it smacked them on their thick skulls," she agreed with a snort. It didn't seem to matter to them at all, and the young adventurer just could not comprehend their mindsets!
The flattery instantly caught her attention, and her defensive posture returned. "You got a ship, then?" she asked, giving him a look from top to bottom, and then back up. Minor repairs and then headed for Kahikina? "Sounds too good to be true," she said, sticking her chin forward as if to show she wasn't going to be duped. "What's the catch?"

Ephrym chuckled at the carpenter's commentary. He definitely liked her! It may come to bite him later but for now he was happy to find someone who was so outspoken and confident. The hybrid man had seen a variety of people while working on the docks to save money for his ship and this sort....well this sort he could trust to be honest. The last thing he needed was for someone to set sail with his recently acquired ship. It was a small beauty but a sturdy one who could easily carry them across the seas and quickly with its smaller frame. Still would have plenty of room to carry across goods from Kahikana as well. A good start to his future.
In fact he was rather proud of her. Ephrym nodded, "Sure do. A light schooner whose slender build could easily breeze us across the way and right into Kahikana before most of those bigger oafs." He quipped back without hesitation, "She just needs a check over before I set sail and someone who I could trust to keep her in good shape during the journey." His cheeks did dare to flush just a tad when she asked about the catch, "The catch? Mostly well I'm new to this." Ephrym admitted sheepishly, "Not that I haven't studied or been on ships before but more so that as a newcomer to the scene it's hard to get a sponsor or a crew easily together. Thankfully she's a smaller build so I don't need as many bodies but it's still hard, ya know?" Who wanted to trust someone so fresh to the scene? But Ephrym was determined. He would find some people soon and they would sail within a couple of weeks for sure!

Yokka could easily imagine the description of the ship in her mind, and felt her heart flutter a little. She would have to make sure it was sturdy enough to make such a journey... Wait! She hadn't agreed yet! "New? That it?" She crossed her arms to look him over again. She took a breath and watched the man closely to gauge his reaction. "What're you planning once you get there? Get to Kahikina, I mean. I need a trip, but I won't be moving pirates to loot the place." If he was new to the gig, then he wouldn't have much by way of references for her to check in with... She had to watch his reactions instead.

Ephrym smirked, "Could it be anything else? I mean have you seen this face?" He winked teasingly before sobering up, "But yes it is slightly hard to get much going when you're fresh and don't have many references. I came from a farming family more so than ship builders." He sighed before forcing a small smile, "Didn't stop me from studying ships my whole childhood and wanting to sail the seas though. I'm more than ready. I worked at the docks for the past few years to get enough for a ship of my own...I just need a crew."
"My plans?" Ephrym quirked an eyebrow before placing a hand on a hip thoughtfully, "Mostly I want to explore overseas but I wanted to get some of the first trades. I hear that the Kahi craft things so I was hoping to bring Belrean materials and barter with them. Got plenty especially from agriculture for them. Surely some folks over here will be more than eager to spend coin on rare underwater goods. There's a couple of cabins in the ship so I could also carry a couple of passengers besides crew too I 'spose." Ephrym smiled and peered closely at the woman, "Why? Is it tempting maybe? I really could use the help~"

Well, the guy didn't exactly give off a piratey air. That made her hopeful. It was the snippet of his background that really caught Yokka's attention though. It sounded almost exactly like her own! While she perhaps should have been more suspicious of the coincidence, she found that she couldn't doubt his story, either.
"So you're a merchant?" she asked. Trading was a natural part of visiting foreign lands, and the funds would surely assist in further explorations. Her lips pressed at the smile she was getting. She was certainly being sucked in.... "Tempting. Yes." she admitted. "I expect to give your ship a lookover, first. Won't agree to anything until I see how much work it needs."

"Yes?" Ephrym pondered the concept before nodding, "I prefer the term privateer or adventurer but at the end of the day I am mainly trading goods to countries across the way. It's pretty profitable especially if we can get our hands on the first things from Kahikana." He knew the airships were popular but the ocean was still a viable option, especially when it came to navigating these new islands with their water systems. Ephrym was bursting with excitement just thinking about all the new things that could be found there!
Was that a smile? Ephrym couldn't help grinning, "That's fine. Please come and see my ship whenever you have the time! I would gladly give you the full tour." He held out a hand, "Name is Ephrym by the way. You?" This was great!

"Adventurer," she repeated with a slightly amused air. Frankly, it was a much more exciting title than merchant. It held more travel promise than sailing with a regular trader. After a pause, she raised her hand to accept the shake offered. "I'm Yokka. Full disclosure though.. I don't have many references myself," she said, glancing over to the boat she had jumped from. She certainly did not want to go back there if this was a real opportunity. "I get odd jobs as I'm able to. If you're still interested, I can be free right now for that tour."

"A pleasure to meet ya, Yokka." Ephrym grinned happily, "Seems like we'll just have to test our luck and make our names known then, right?" He nodded in acceptance of their new status. Wasn't that the thrilling part? It wouldn't be any fun if they had everything handed to them right away after all. It was why Ephrym was so proud of his ship. He had worked so hard to obtain the vessel and now here he was gathering a crew.
"Of course I'm interested." Ephrym nodded as he gestured for the geian woman to follow him, "I'll gladly give you a tour. She's docked right down away from the main docks. I prefer some privacy and...well it's kinda pricey to fit in with the big boys at the moment." He chuckled quietly, "Still I'm sure you'll love her and we'll have a blast once we get to Kahikana!" If anything Ephrym was super optimistic and his confidence showed in every step as he led the way to his ship.

Well, setting off with another new person wasn't ideal, but it was a sight better than being dragged back and forth by half-rate captains and inconsistent crewmen. She might be able to nudge this fellow along a more productive path if she had to. Besides, he was willing to take the risk of hiring her, so she could give the same consideration.
It helped that Ephrym seemed to be so truly enthusiastic about the trip. Yokka felt the pull tug harder on her gut as she followed after the cheerful character. "Yeah, well, calm down. I haven't promised anything yet," she huffed, though a hopeful and amused smile was lifting her lips. As long as the ship turned out well, maybe she would finally be able to travel as her heart wanted. "If I do agree.. I'll see to it the ship reaches Kahikina."
