Eurig had never imagined a day when he would be sitting on the edge of town, propped up on a worn stone fence, skewer of roasted vegetables in hand, and listening to passerby's gossip about actual fish people.

When his father had mentioned them it had been in passing, as if his studies were far more important than the world changing revelations happening around them. At what point would he deem this important? In all honesty, because of his lackadaisical attitude Eurig hadn't deemed it anything more than a tale, but now that he was here curiosity consumed him. What did they look like? Were they friends or foe? Gossip ran the gambit on whether they could be trusted or not, but Eurig wanted to know for himself.

He mulled it over while chewing on a bit of charred squash. The only way he could really know would be to seek it out for himself, and yet...that was just too far away from home. And yet, was he really needed at him? They got along just fine with him in Tale so maybe a little extra time wouldn't hurt.

When word eventually reached Uro about Kahikina, she couldn't help her immediate curiosity. For one thing, it was people living under the water! How fascinating! Underwater knowledge was limited to how long any adventurers could hold their breath. There had to be so much more to discover, like herbs and crystals!

The potential was practically overwhelming! Uro had a bundle of fresh sage and gypsicum stems clutched to her chest, gaze as distant as the newly discovered culture. How lovely would it be to get a bunch of underwater stones to play around with and discover what energies they held? Would they lose their charge if above water? How long could-? She gasped softly when her forward motion suddenly stopped, eyes refocusing on the present moment. When had this barrier gotten there? This wasn't on her way home! Uro took a step back and looked around to see if she could tell why she had been guided to this unusual route, but the only thing that stood out was a young man leaning against the fencing she had just bumped into. So, she gave him a smile. "Hello!"

At first Eurig hadn't really paid any attention to the people milling about the main road. He ate his snack in peace, mulling over the new discoveries in his world, until he noticed someone quite literally hit a wall. When he looked up, one brow quirked as if he couldn't believe it had actually happened, recognition hit him. "Are you....are you alright, Uro?" He'd only met her a few times before, and each was brief, but it was hard to mistake crystals like that.

She looked dazed, not quite herself, and that had him concerned. Or was this normal for her? She'd been fairly odd the last time they'd spoke, too. Just smile and walk away, Eurig. Just get up and go. And yet...that just seemed really rude, especially if she wasn't feeling well. "Do you need some help?"

Head cocked slightly, Uro took a couple steps closer to the young man. She did know him... It had been a long time... "Yes, I am fine," she replied, smile growing as her mind focused. "Eurig!" Giving her herbs a tighter hold of delight, she crossed the final steps to close the distance between them. "Thank you, but I really am well. I was simply distracted. This discovery of this new land is fascinating, isn't it? Can you imagine living under water?"

How much closer was she going to get? On impulse Eurig leaned back, trying his best to take a half step away so as not to appear rude. Still, she didn't look entirely well, and that had him on edge. Then all of a sudden there she was, closer to him than he wanted, but he didn't have anywhere to go that wouldn't seem like he was running from her.

"I think some of us live underwater all the time anyway, just in our dreams." She certainly seemed to be in another world, didn't she? "How much have you heard about them?"

With age came at least a little self awareness. Smile turning a slight bit bashful, she took a step back when Eurig leaned away. People were so strange about that whole 'personal space' thing. "I bet that is true. Many dream about things beyond themselves." Turning to lean her hip against the fence, she set her herbs down as well. "I have heard much, but how much is true remains to be seen. Living under the water, fins, gills, tails. Just earthling fish from what I've heard. What about you? Have you heard anything?"

"A lot of the same." It didn't seem like she knew much more than anyone else, which was a little disappointing. Eurig wasn't sure what he was after, exactly, but a bit of adventure would have been exciting. "I've heard that there's several different races, which is kind of like how it is here, except they can all live underwater. A woman was talking about it as she passed; she said in her husband's letter he swore he'd seen yellow fins, but another traveler was sure they were all blue."

It all seemed plausible to Eurig. If they grew up in different environments then why wouldn't they look different? It was just like life in Tendaji, after all; every region had people who looked a little different than the rest.

Uro smiled with wonder. "Perhaps they are simply a mirror version of Tendaji and those surrounding lands? They must have their own cultures depending on the parts of the water they live in. I never gave much thought to it, but the environments in different parts of the water must be as varied as the ones on land!" She looked up at the sky, smile growing. "I can imagine that some water is warmer while other parts are colder. Different plants must grow in different areas. I wonder how deep it goes! It might even have mountains and valleys as we do!"

Blinking back to the present, she gave Eurig a curious tilt of her head. "Do you wish to see it one day? Travel to see underwater villages?"

"Maybe," Eurig pondered. Her theories certainly gave the idea of a fully realized civilization credence. What would his father have to say on it? He was family scholar, after all. The thought of Zena's giant mountains or the valleys of Sauti being trapped so far down underneath water that he couldn't see was a little daunting, though.

"I don't think I could even if I wanted to." Eurig smiled sheepishly, "I'm sure their bodies are built for it, beyond the ability to breath underwater, that is. Still...I think it would be pretty nice to see them. It's always exciting to hear about someplace new, isn't it?"

Pursing her lips thoughtfully, Uro gave a slow nod. "I suppose it would be difficult. They have created ships that fly in the air, so perhaps someone will make one for flying under the water as well one day that we could use."

She gave an enthusiastic nod of agreement. "There is so much potential when new things are found. I wish to see how they use their plants and stones in healing; if they do so at all. I don't see underwater creatures being happy this far inland though. Perhaps I will eventually go see for myself." She brought a contemplative finger to her lip and tapped lightly. "I would have to close the shop for a while if I did. I wouldn't want to upset grandmother, but she would surely understand. Her spirit could watch over it while I was gone~"

Her spirit? For a moment Eurig just assumed she was helping out in her grandmother's shop, and then all at once he felt sympathy for her. Bringing it up, however, or drawing attention to it seemed rude. It didn't seem like a recent passing so maybe she'd taken over after the older woman had died? "I'm sure she would understand if it was something you really wanted." Of course he had no idea. For all Eurig knew her grandmother could have hated the idea of travel.

"It would be interesting to see what their healing techniques are like. We might be able to trade ingredients and knowledge. I'm sure when my grandfather finds out about them he'll be one of the first to go."

The encouragement brought a warmer smile to Uro's lips. "I believe you are right," she mused. Grandmother had always encouraged learning and expanding the craft. Surely traveling for the sake of learning how to heal more would be acceptable.

"Your grandfather seeks healing knowledge?" she asked. "Perhaps I had better go soon so that I can learn first," she said playfully. Speaking of going, though.. Uro turned and started to collect the herbs she had put down. "Do you think your grandfather would like me? If he is a healer, it would be fun to discuss the new world's potentials with him." She paused a moment. "My grandmother always found it so easy to talk to others.."

"He does. He's in Belrea to see what advancements they've made so he can try bringing them back here." It was a little saddening thinking that the man was so far away, but it wasn't as if Eurig got to see him all that much anyway. Hopefully the journey hadn't been too hard and he made it alright.

"I don't...really think he would. My grandfather doesn't like many people; he's a little hard to get to know." Eurig hopped down from his perch, and offered a sympathetic smile. "I'll write to him anyway though, and the next time I see you I'll see if he wouldn't mind sharing information with you through letters. I'm sure he'll be interested in learning about the new lands way of healing too. For now though I really should get going. It was nice seeing you again!" With a little brighter smile Eurig turned to leave.

Already over in Belrea! "What an exciting life he must lead," she mused. Hard to get to know... So, quite the opposite of her grandmother! It would certainly be interesting to meet him one day! "I would appreciate whatever advice he may give," she assured, beaming happily.

Though sad to end the encounter, Uro knew she needed to move on as well. "Goodbye, Eurig! It was wonderful to see you, too!"
