The twins were at it again.

As a reward for good behavior (with the emphasis on Satori), and also just because it was a holiday weekend, their parents had taken them to the local arcade, a favorite of the two girls. Although they were usually better at the virtual crane game apps, the allure of winning prizes from the real ones was always too much to resist, and thus, here they were, spending their money once more. They had been given a small allowance, admittedly more than the average child their age might have gotten but still 'small', and warned not to spend it all on one game.

At first, Nemu had done her best to insist that they should heed their parents' warning, and perhaps try another machine, especially as repeated attempts at winning their desired prize had yet to prove successful. However, Satori insisted that they keep at it, convinced that she was that they were close to the 'payout', the amount at which the machine claw would keep its grip all the way to the end. Quite frankly, Nemu wasn't too sure about that, but she had also lost track of how much they had already spent on the machine... and she did really want that prize...

And thus did another dollar go towards more credits for playing.

Satori admittedly lost count on how much money they fed the machine with, or how many times she was derailed (admission of failure is not an option!), but she felt confident that the payout was close. Any day, now!

Satori’s hands maneuvered the joystick to once again orient the claw towards the prize that they wanted to win, which was a limited edition version of a famous brown sleepy-looking bear. “Annnny dayyy now…” Satori whispered to herself for the umpteenth time.

She pressed the button to lower the claw onto the prize, staring intently at the claw’s descent before her. After many, many tries… the prize was close to the drop off, so it’s just a matter of time! … or so she thinks, anyway.

“Mushi, do we still have money left?” Satori asked out of precaution in the prize isn’t in their hands by the time this round is done.

That horrid nickname again. Nemu flinched, and thought briefly of going to find their parents, to tell them that Satori was calling her ‘Mushi’ again, but bit her lip and instead counted the bills that she had been entrusted with. This was a reward for good behavior, and it wouldn’t do to cut their time spent here short; she’d just have to deal with it for now.

“We have… twenty dollars left, I think,” she answered, as she recounted the bills one by one. Would this be enough to get their prize, she wondered? How much had they spent already?
For the ease of making it easier for the young twins to count, but also for ease of getting more credits without having to break a large bill, their parents had given them an envelope of smaller bills, and entrusted it in Nemu’s care. Looking around at the other machines, Nemu began to wonder if, perhaps, they should walk away from this one, and try something else. Certainly, they were bound to find a prize they wanted just as much, and one easier to win, at that. On the other hand, that Rilakkuma was limited edition….

Noise and music from the other games served as the background music to her thoughts as she worriedly debated if they should continue or not, or perhaps ask a staff member for help with ‘resetting’ their current machine, to put the plush in a more favorable spot. An upbeat song from a popular idol group played on the overhead radio, and while Nemu was unfamiliar with the tune, unbeknownst to her and Satori both, it had attracted a certain someone…

Rune deftly snuck into the arcade again, because once again, Lani was busy. Rune wasn't sure if that was true, but Lani seemed fine being alone for the while, and she might do her homework on her own for once.. so why not take the chance to pay the arcade a visit?

Having more or less memorized camera blind spots at this point, Rune darted to the currently abandoned rhythm game cabinets, notably the ones that featured music and likenesses of her well-beloved idols. She hid herself and began humming along to the song blaring from the speakers. Is this a mistake? Perhaps...

However, it was too late. Rune gasped and pawed her mouth shut as she heard a pair of curious footsteps approaching where she hid.

"I swear, Mushi, I'll get that limited edition rillakkuma before we run out of money!" Satori declared in a huff, having elected to take a break from the claw machine. It's apparent that she was not successful... yet.

I wonder if this is ok.. stringing both of my characters along in one post? LOL

"Don't call me that!" Nemu exclaimed, her voice taking on an almost whiny tone. Why did Sato have to always call her that!? Just because she didn't... really... like bugs, Satori had to call her a bug herself. Sometimes she really wondered if this was divine retribution of sorts, because of them being twins born during a leap year. It just wasn't fair, wasn't fair at all.

But then Satori walked away from the machine, and Nemuri became nervous about that, because while she did think they should, perhaps, try another machine, there was also the fact that they had already sunk so much money already into this one. If someone else were to try the machine after them (and win).... She'd seen this scenario happen in their virtual crane game apps, where they would run out of tries, only for the next person in queue to swoop in and win the prize. Neither idea, continuing or abandoning, really sat well with her at the moment, but if she really had to decide between the two, then-

- Did she hear something behind one of the games?

"Why not just call you Mushi? It suits you just fine~," Satori flippantly replied, her telltale grin still painted on her face. In the back of her mind, Satori pondered if she really was going too far with her joke, thinking that she ought to have a change of heart for a short while. Suddenly, she heard a faint thump and a faint hush from a nearby cabinet... which caught her attention.

"Did you hear anything... Mu.. Nemu?" Satori quickly corrected herself, putting her self-imposed change of heart session into work.

Before waiting for Nemu to comment, Satori approached to where Rune hid...

Meanwhile, Rune's eyes widened when she observed a shadow looming over her. "Eep!" Rune helplessly gasped, finding that her eyes met with the bright catty green eyes of this curious girl.

"Hey, Mushi! It's a kitten!" Satori was quick to point out.

Merurulince
Satori's something. And sorry that Rune's part is short. It'll get much longer once I ever get to elaborate more on what's going on in her head LOL.

The more Satori called her 'Mushi', the more Nemuri felt tears start to well up in her eyes. She didn't know why her own twin had to bully her so much- it wasn't like she did anything to deserve it! Well, other than the whole being a twin born on a leap day anyway; she was still pretty convinced that had a lot to do with her misfortunes.

Still, Nemu followed after Satori dutifully, if only because while she was the one with the money, Satori was the one with the talent for the crane machines. More sounds came from behind a nearby arcade cabinet, and then suddenly, Sato announced that she had found a... kitten?

"A kitten?" Nemu repeated, as she moved closer to see what her twin was talking about, "But I thought... pets weren't allowed?"

At least, Nemu was kind of guessing it was someone's pet? It seemed a little weird otherwise for a stray cat to have wandered into the arcade by accident, and she didn't really think strays wore tiny hats, anyway.

"Ah! It's a kitten!" Satori gasped softly in confusion, "What's it doing here? Did it get lost?" For once, she didn't exclaim loudly. Did she understand just what she got Nemu and herself into? Who knows...

Satori approached to where Rune hid, her bright eyes blinking rapidly from within the shadows. Satori grinned and leaned over to get a closer look...

-------

Meanwhile, Rune tried to suppress her squeak that nearly escaped her mouth. The twins failed to ignore the small creature that scurried to hide, and now she's probably going to pay the price.

For a moment, Rune briefly considered her options and immediate consequences that may follow. For one, she absolutely cannot get reported to the arcade's staff. That would mean a probably sweep of the arcade and subsequent banishment from this heavenly entertaining place.

Moreover, for once in her life (or more than a few times at this point), Rune wished that Tochi was around to protect her from unwanted onlookers. After all, how else would Rune be able to play her rhythm games in peace? Alas... lady luck chose to ignore her once more.

Yet... there is one option. Rune studied the twins carefully. A spark or a figment of a shooting star crossed her mind. She realized something extremely important. 'W-what if... I get them to join my side, convert them into idol trainees, and become fellow senshi? Assisting with their awakening is simply not an issue, after all. They're within the age of reason, have eyes brimming with curiosity, appeared to be immune to wrongdoings (in theory), and more!'

There's possibly nothing wrong with this arrangement! Rune nodded to herself in her mind, and decided to approach them.

"A-ah, hello there! D-don't be alarmed! I'm no wish taker nor wish granter, BUT I can bestow you a most wondrous power! I am Runelucia, and it's no mistake that we met here, today!" Rune gesticulated with her paws as she whispered excitedly to the twins staring down at her.

-------

"H-huuuh?! I-it spoke!" Satori gasped, taken back by this strange phenomenon, She blinked rapidly, not believing what she saw, and she couldn't help but ask, "You... are real, right? Not a toy or robot? And I'm confused... very confused...."

Merurulince
I hope all of this makes sense! It's also my first time writing for a guardian cat, so I may want to get a refresher sometime...

On one hand, Nemuri was, by nature, a very cautious person, owing to being the repeated subject of her sister's bullying and pranking. It was very easy to cast doubt on the existence of a talking kitten, especially one that was offering to bestow them a 'wondrous' power... whatever that meant.

On the other, the twins were at an age where the very willing suspension of disbelief was present, and Nemu couldn't help but be very curious about their discovery.

"You're really real? Really?" she couldn't help but ask, "Um, what do you mean, 'it's no mistake that we met here'?"

Also, should they really be talking like this, out in the open, where someone could overhear? Nemu didn't want to disobey their parents' rule about staying put at the crane games, but if Runelucia was real, wouldn't the kitten get into trouble if she was discovered?

Unfortunately for Nemu, even if she cast caution, Satori wouldn't succumb to reason that easily. After all, this highly unusual situation is possibly as magical as Runelucia suggests, or it's a highly elaborate prank. To Satori, she cannot possibly pass up on either conclusion.

"Mushi, Rune means that we're the chosen ones... for something," Satori quickly concluded, "And y'know what, I think we should listen to Rune some more... but maybe at another place?"

"She's correct, staying in this place would be ill-advised..." Rune nodded in agreement, "And besides, I have a feeling that what will happen next will be better than any crane game prize... after we move to a quieter place."

Rune made a catty grin and puffed her chest slightly. She couldn't help but feel confident that she could convince these twins to go along with her persuasion.

"I... don't know if it'll be better than a crane game prize.... that rilakkuma's limited edition after all... but I think your idea sounds more fun..." Satori mumbled to herself before facing Nemu for her opinion. "I think it'll be fun to go along with Rune, Nemu...."

'We should tell someone where we're going' Nemuri wanted to say- at the very least, they should tell their parents, so as to not cause alarm- but hadn't she just been worried about Rune being caught? Like both the kitten and Sato said, staying where they were wasn't such a good idea, with the number of other patrons wandering around, playing the games...

"Okay, but we shouldn't be gone too long," she cautioned, "Mama and Papa won't be happy if they find out we didn't follow the rules..."

(Also, she still really kind of wanted to try winning that plush.)

"Ah... Nemu, I know it's a bad idea... but I think we shouldn't tell someone for now," Satori answered, pouting slightly, "Besides, we gotta take Rune safely out of this place before she gets seen."

"Agreed," Rune chipped in, "I'm sorry that I have to count on you two, but I promise you that the both of you have potential for greatness. I can tell you everything that you need to more outside. And if it makes you feel better, Nemuri, it won't be long. Just hear me out, okay?"

"Let's hear her out," Satori stated her agreement before offering Rune her proposal, "And Rune, could you hide in my knapsack for now? That way, no one will see you, and we can get outside."

Rune nodded wordlessly, jumping inside Satori's knapsack. She nearly yelped upon feeling and realizing that she was surrounded by an bevy of things, including fake plastic bugs. 'What shall she use these for? They're creepy!' Rune thought as she swallowed her yelp.

Merurulince

Nemuri really didn't like the idea of just... running off without telling anyone, because she really liked following the rules and being a good child in general, compared to Satori and her mischievous nature. Also, she really disliked making their parents worry, too- imagining them upset made her upset. But Runelucia was assuring them it wouldn't take long, and maybe it truly wouldn't, so things would be okay.

As it was, Satori and Rune had pretty much made the decision for her, in the end, as Satori was hiding the kitten in her knapsack, and they prepared to head outside. The distant sense of panic over both potentially being caught and potentially ending up with their parents sending a search party after them if discovered missing, but Nemuri didn't want to be left behind, either. After all, didn't the kitten say they had a potential?

Relying once more on her twin taking the lead, Nemuri could only nod in mute agreement. "We should go," she finally said.

Satori nodded with an appropriate "...mhmm," a grin plastered on her face as she hoisted the now partially closed bag onto her shoulder. She couldn't help but imagine what Rune would say and offer, but before she let her imagination carry her thoughts away, Satori led herself and Nemu (and Rune) out of the arcade.

Inside the bag, Rune adjusted herself and peered through the slit of Satori's bag after noticing the light changing from the dimly colored arcade into natural sunlight. It was apparent that it was past noon, and she could readily tell that the sun's rays were quite warm. Before she let herself get baked inside Satori's bag, Rune whispered, "Hey, could you two take us to a pretty private place nearby? Where no one would walk in on us?"

Satori paused to listen and ponder on Rune's request. It sounded reasonable, and while Satori did immediately imagine just simply going to the nearest vacant lot or alleyway, Satori realized that there was a much better place. One of her favorite haunts happened to be a small park nearby, and it was there where she often mulled on new pranks. Some of them were born there, actually.

"Ah Nemu, how about the small park nearby? I know of a spot where almost no one would go," Satori pitched the idea with eagerness. Honestly... she was kind of revealing one of her secret hideouts, but her excitement over Rune's upcoming proposal got the better of her.

When the idea of heading somewhere more secluded and quieter had been proposed, Nemuri thought maybe they'd just be headed to some quiet corner or employee-only area where it was less likely that they'd be stumbled across. What she hadn't expected, though, was for Satori to suggest that they leave the arcade entirely, and head for the park, and her face clearly showed how much she was balking at the idea.

"Isn't that too far?" she asked, with a slightly whiny tone, "What if someone asks where we're going by ourselves?"

If Satori was the brains of the operation, Nemuri was the one who questioned and voiced her doubts on everything.
