About a week after overcoming the tribulations set forth by Antioch in Arashigakure, Ada Kyuri faces her next greatest challenge. Over the course of the past week, many suitors had been sent to the flying village by the Rio noble family from her previous home at the imperial capital. Ada has done her best to stave off the advances of those who would assume to claim her hand in marriage. Her disinterest in their greed and disdain for her family's self-interests have kept her strong in the recently turbulent times. However, the Rio family have forced her hand and so Ada finds herself at a magnificent venue where she must take a husband. With several noteworthy figureheads from the Rio family and their guests present, she cannot afford to make a mistake, but there is a faint hope in her heart that she won't have to make this choice alone...
__ Ada stood postured with a glass of wine at three-quarters full amidst several gentlemen who were all speaking among each other of their achievements, assets and so on. She wore a fine dress, accented with various rare metals and precious gems. Had it not been designed herself, she might have felt vulnerable in such attire. Her disinterest in the conversation being carried by everyone else was clear, even to them but they didn't abate in the slightest. Ada sipped her wine in contempt as she gave the simple of replies and gestures whenever possible. She was mostly glad that the dancing hadn't entirely begun. Other noble guests of the Rio family were also present and enjoying the libations- most of them being related to any of the last several suitors in the running. Ada took a quiet gulp of the fine wine in her crystal glass then handed it over to the one of the nearby gentlemen, "Please excuse me for a moment." As much as they wanted to object to their temporary dismissal, they knew it was not proper etiquette to interfere in her. Likewise, they were rather certain that she would not simply leave the party thanks to their host's assurances.
Ada stepped out onto the balcony away from the ball room to get some fresh air. There were a couple other pairs lingering about the outside space but they departed shortly after greeting her. Ada rested her hands on the ornately designed stone guard railing and she stared out at the large moon just past the horizon of Arashigakure's edge. Millions of city lights shone gratefully back to the waxing crescent blanketing the village in a soft light. Her blue eyes weren't yet as thankful as she wished that the moon would simply end all of this somehow. She was mindful to maintain her posture at all times, and was glad for it as she heard one of the doors leading outside open and close behind her. She pleaded with dignity well-intact in her voice, "Please, I would like a moment to myself." Footsteps approached carefully, but without any detectable stealthy intention and she restrained a sigh. "Sorry to hear that, kosagi." Ada's eyes went wide at the nickname long since tucked away into her past and she spun around. Her dress flowed behind the twisting motion and it wearer stared in disbelief at the man who presented himself to her. "Daichi... you too?" She stared at him for some time, feeling a mixture of curiosity, frustration, and relief as she processed the ramifications of his participation in this event by her family.
Daichi scratched his cheek, noting the awkward silence then coughed. "It's very hard to get a moment alone with you, y'know?" He took a step toward Ada and she suddenly turned back away to focus on the moon. He said after noting this evasive behavior, "You still have it pretty rough, huh? I've heard so much about what you've done since you left us in the guard. Arashigakure is lucky to have you with them here." He leaned forward onto the railing beside her and took in the same sight as she was hiding in. "Daichi... please, don't. I can't bear the thought of you of all people heeding my family's demands." She wouldn't make eye contact even as she said this. Ada just wanted to remember the kind, strong young man who she admitted was her first love as he was in her memories. "Ada..." His left hand rested came to rest atop of her right, "They didn't demand anything. I asked for this chance to see you again- to be at your side again. I'm not here for them. Only you." His amber eyes drew her gaze in and she was able to feel the sincerity in his words. She started to smile, but then... she remembered Kenshin. His visage overlapped Daichi's and she quickly looked away again while retreating her hand into her own grasp. Ada closed her eyes, feeling an ache in her chest as the unsaid question rested into her heart. "I'm not prepared for any of this. You being here isn't fair." A tear fell from the outer corner of her left eye despite keeping them tightly closed at the moment. These heavy choices only became heavier and heavier with each passing hour all week.
Daichi frowned slightly, disappointed in himself more than anything else. "I'm sorry, kosagi. I swear I'm not here to hurt you but-""But you are, Daichi. Why now? Why couldn't you have sought me out on your own? Why-" Daichi wouldn't let himself be interrupted with such a toned barrage of pointed questions. He interjected back upon her, "Why would I be able to ask for your hand in marriage otherwise? Now is the only chance I have. I know that and so do you. Why does this reunion have to be such that I sully your beauty with sorrow?" He boldly turned Ada's gaze back to him with a gentle tug on her chin, "I used to be so good at finding that smile, which is still as precious as the Goisaru Valley's lilies. Allow me to help share the weight of your burdens as I did once before?" Ada felt her emotions reaching a boiling point very much as she did earlier this week in Kenshin's counsel. "Please, Daichi. No more." She once again pulled away, unsure and afraid to make any hasty decisions. Ada briskly walked back toward the ball room, wiping the tears stain from her eyes and thankful for her moisture resistant makeup. "I loved you Daichi- perhaps I still do, but this isn't how I wanted to see you again. I'm sorry." Ada left the man alone on the balcony now, finding it less painful to be with those she borderline hated than those she once loved.

▱▰▱Kenshin sat in the back of a magnificent white horse-drawn carriage with a young woman seated across from him. She fussed over his already overly-kempt hair before Kenshin swatted her hand away. "This is the big night we've been practicing for, m'lord, don't you ruin my hard work by forgetting our lessons!" The young lady chuckled before returning to staring pensively at his clothing. She would spot and get the crease out of any surface of Kenshin's tailored Hyuga clan robes. For the past week, the young woman served as Kenshin's attendant. Once Kenshin was legitimized it seemed like Hajime had sent an army of his human resources from Kumoito. The leader of this cavalry of noble servants was Yui Nakamura, Kenshin's new attendant and the overly-enthusiastic star teacher of etiquette for the imperial Hyuga clan. Hajime needed to send his best in the form of Yui to ensure that Kenshin would successfully transition into nobility and secure a noble marriage. Kenshin himself recognized the necessity of her presence but was admittedly uncomfortable with a young woman he did not know living in his house. Nonetheless, Yui was the epitome of professionalism and had lessons of etiquette with Kenshin each day when he returned home. Kenshin Hyuga was Yui's greatest challenge by far but she was steadfastly determined to make a gentleman out of the newly-minted heir. When her hand was swatted away she arched her eyebrow and gave him an admonishing look before returning to a beaming smile and returning to her notepad. "The results of your testing from our lessons are that you've gotten a perfect score in your ballroom dancing. Your excellent footwork as a bukijutsu master was to be expected. As for matters of etiquette...there's room for improvement." Kenshin shook his head as he sat up and passed a lint roller over his clothing. It was clear that Yui was nervous about sending Kenshin to this grand event so soon despite her enthusiasm. Yui had given him extensive lessons on all important skills for a nobleman ranging from etiquette to politics to smaller subjects such as tea culture and calligraphy. Oh how Kenshin loathed the calligraphy and letter writing lessons. It was obvious that these were lessons he would have received as a boy had he been legitimized sooner so there was already a lot of ground to cover and a patronizing that he did not appreciate. Nonetheless, he was dutiful and fastidious in his participation in the lessons. When Kenshin looked through the window of his carriage he saw more white carriages of similar design begin to follow them. "Are those...ours?" Kenshin asked in confusion as Yui looked herself before immediately nodding what seemed like a hundred times. "Yes m'lord! Those are the Hyuga guards. Lord Hajime wanted to ensure that you have a proper entrance into noble life at this event." Kenshin looked back at her and raised his own eyebrow before leveling a simple question. "A...proper entrance?" Yui nodded many times again in response. "You'll see, m'lord! All you have to do is walk in and they'll take care of the rest." Kenshin did not like surprises and he did not understand why there needed to be so many other Hyuga clan staff sent with him. Kenshin's modesty was quietly outraged over how audacious all of this was but at least he could take comfort in Hajime's genuine assistance. "Why are you not disturbed that I'm making all of us late to this event?" This was a question that was burning in Kenshin since he stepped foot in the carriage outside of the CORE Compound. "Because tardiness is a display of power when you're seeking an audience with a lesser family. As a Hyuga, you can be late for a Rio event. Besides, there's still hours to go." Kenshin was confused by Yui's flippant attitude as it seemed inconsistent with a woman so obsessed with decorum and the finer details. He dismissed it as yet another noble custom that was beyond his comprehension for the time being.
When Kenshin's carriage approached the venue and came to a stop Kenshin reached for the door handle. However, Yui swiftly slapped his wrist before he heard almost a dozen carriage doors open and close in unison. He saw two lines of men with brass horns line up after both sides of his carriage. "...Trumpeters?" Kenshin asked in confusion but before he could fully process this he was being pushed out of the carriage. Kenshin could be seen in his full imperial Hyuga regalia stepping out of his carriage. He took a few steps further as Yui followed closely behind him. One man would walk in front of Kenshin and he did not recognize him. The horns began to play a regal song as Kenshin followed the man in front of him. This is all too much. Kenshin thought as he walked forward with the sound of royal horns announcing his arrival. Dozens of guests at the event stared at him as he walked onward clothed in his white robes with golden trim that were starkly different from the simple black kimono and police dress blues he always wore. The man ahead of him came to a stop once they approached the massive open doorway. "MAKE WAY FOR THE SANNIN KENSHIN HYUGA, HEIR TO THE IMPERIAL HYUGA CLAN, CAPTAIN OF THE ARASHIGAKURE POLICE DEPARTMENT! STAND ASIDE AND OPEN UP!" The herald's voice boomed through the ballroom for Kenshin's introduction forcing all chatter to cease. Kenshin continued stepping forward and tried to appear as dignified as possible but was quite embarrassed in truth. No one was even standing in my way... The prince thought with a certain amount of shame as all eyes were placed on him. The herald bowed before dismissing himself and standing behind Kenshin as rows of Hyuga guards marched to stand behind Kenshin in a militaristic formation. Thankfully, Yui had prepared him for this as he looked over at Ada's noble adoptive relatives. This would be the first time that he actually met any of them of course. Kenshin bowed deeply before standing fully again. "My apologies for my tardiness, I had essential law enforcement duties to attend to. Thank you for your gracious invitation." Kenshin stared at them intensely and awaited a response but felt adrenaline pump through him from the stage fright of being in the middle of so many judgemental eyes. As he fixated on his introduction he would not see Ada walk in as he gave his full attention to the hosts. Internally, Yui was surprised and impressed by the taciturn heir's delivery of the appropriate message as she stood behind him as his attendant. He was unsure if it was disrespectful for him to disrupt the party with his loud entrance but he supposed that Hajime would not lead him astray in such matters.

The Hatake's chidori raiton inflicts a tier of full-body paralysis that is equivalent to the technique's rank up to the second tier. This paralysis lasts for two posts per rank of the technique at a maximum of six posts. This means that strikes involving the blade cause physical damage including stab wounds as well as seal tenketsu points and any other effects of the technique used through the sword. An additional 5 chakra can be applied to the blade to prevent it from causing physical damage from thrusting but instead seal tenketsu points and inflict pain similar to a stab wound in the area struck but slashing attacks can still cause damage. Half the resource cost of techniques from the rapier style of Sen Gekiretsu Nagareboshi applied allows the technique to carry the tenketsu sealing effects of a same-rank palm strike such as a B-Rank carrying 64 Palms effects. Getsuruito must be in its rapier form to use this ability and 5 chakra can be spent upon activation of this technique to transform it as such. The Righteous Sword of the Sentinel technique has a 10 post duration before necessitating re-activation and costs an E-Rank amount of chakra. The initial activation of this technique consumes an action but all subsidiary abilities of the technique do not.
Smiting Blade of the Night Watch [ Naitō Otchi no Sumittinguburēdo ] | Rank X | Bukijutsu [ Lightning ] | Spiritual When this technique is activated it crackles violently with night blue lightning for the entire duration. The electricity from the blade also forms bolts of lightning over the body of the user and appears to supercharge them. Whenever the blade is swung or thrust over the duration the user can fire a concentrated blast of ten bolts of lightning to accompany the strike equal to the rank applied but for only half the cost to initiate the technique. Hatake, Raiu, and Sage enhanced lightning can pass through the blade and apply to these lightning bolts. The bolts cause a thunderously deafening sonic boom and can inflict tier 2 burns upon direct contact with the lightning. Additionally, these lightning bolts can be freely applied to all complex bukijutsu for no action cost to smite enemies. The only action cost is when the technique is activated and all subsidiary abilities of the technique do not consume actions and only chakra. This ability can be used in both forms of Getsuruito.
Draconic Sabre of Moon Sundering [ Getsu Sandaringu no Dorakonikku Seibā ] | Rank X | Bukijutsu [ Lightning ] | Complex This is the original ability of the ancient Getsuruito blade and thus requires the original katana form. 5 chakra can be spent to transform the blade to its original form upon activation of this technique. Crackling and thunderous dark blue lightning can be applied to the katana's edge at any rank and the same lightning can form a dragon head formed from electricity over the body of the user for 10 posts. This allows all spiritual techniques the sword comes into contact with to be slashed through and even cut in half at the same rank despite the complex nature of the technique. For half of the original cost to activate the technique a same-rank spiritual electrical energy slash can be sent out from the slash of the blade. This same cost can be applied to any complex bukijutsu to achieve the same effect. The original 10 post activation of this ability consumes an action but all subsidiary abilities do not.

__ Left alone on the balcony, Daichi was having a hard time not showing how crushed he was. The young man hid his shame in the face of the moonlight. "Well well... it would seem that you bet a little too much on a childhood romance, isn't that so young Takahara?" A large man in his forties departed from an adjacent shadow, instantly earning Daichi's ire. Daichi spun about and faced his adversary as he retorted, "Kanda. I'm not surprised that you're slinking around in the dark, as usual." Daichi almost reached for his weapon, but remembered the matter of a proper time and place for such things. The royal guardsman just barely made out the image of one of Toru Kanda's infamously skilled assassins hidden behind his bulk. "Hmph." No later than when Daichi had finished scoffing at the wealthy lowlife, did he find a blade firmly pressed against the carotid of his neck from behind. "How dare you scoff at me you insolent peasant! I should have your head if sheerly for your disrespect." Not long after saying this did they also hear the fanfare of the Hyuuga prince's fashionably late arrival. Toru looked away from Daichi who didn't dare test the edge that was poised to take his life faster than he could blink. "b*****d. I can't believe that Hajime Hyuga would stoop so low to let that lead his people, or to trounce on my moment to finally gain the respect I deserve!" Toru shook his fist angrily in the direction of the venue then looked back to Daichi. "Listen carefully, little Takahara, Ada will be mine and so will the Rio. I've already made the arrangements. Keep out of my way and you might just get to see tomorrow." Toru dismissively made a shooing gesture at Daichi before making his way back into the ball room. The blade at his neck had vanished and he took a moment to clean the side of his neck of the slightest bleeding. "I will die first, scum." Daichi growled under his breath before also rejoining the party.
Ada, unaware of the rising new tensions between her suitors, had already rejoined the party. She utilized an artful vocabulary and timely diversion to deny various offers to dance as she wandered the venue. Before long, all attention was called to the front of the room, and she was thankfully it was away from her. However, she was uncertain of the procession leading into the mix of things. Ada lingered off to the side of the room at first, watching Kenshin enter with his several subjects. It was abundantly clear to her that he was out of his element with all the fanfare, but she smiled at the sight of him keeping his composure all the same. It wasn't long after Kenshin's arrival that she saw her adoptive mother and pronounced matron of the Rio family, Hirika, sternly gesturing for Ada to come to her side immediately. 'It would seem that dear Kenshin has started the real party tonight.' She softly chuckled to herself, hiding her humor under a respectful bow and compliant march toward the host table. Shojiro Rio sat at the center helm of the host table, rising before most from his seat to greet the anticipated arrival. There was nothing they could do to dismiss this wildcard in the game, so they simply hoped he would fail this test of his own his own. It was a longshot, but they'd give the Hyuuga heir a run for his money in the other suitors. The Rio patriarch would address Kenshin with surprising hospitality, "Lord Kenshin! Welcome, welcome! Please, we would not think to doubt the dedication of such an important symbol of our nation." Ada arrived at the table shortly after Kenshin's reception, maneuvering to the fore of the chair on the other side of her father apart from her mother. She stood with her family, smiling for real for the first time all night for Kenshin. Unfortunately, the sight was somewhat shocking to some others and would surely stir a reaction from the other suitors who might see her moment of relief. Shojiro raised his hands and a glass of wine was placed in one with impeccable timing from a servant, "Everyone! Let us continue the celebrations with our esteemed guest, Kenshin Hyuga!" Shojiro, Hirika, Ada and her nine adoptive siblings all lead the toast which most in the room would partake in Kenshin's honor. Shojiro pulled Ada just a little closer by her far shoulder with his free hand and whispered with his face hidden away from any with a skill in lip reading, "Do not disappoint me, Ada." Ada's moment of happiness was as fleeting as always and her smile faded once more as she continued to look in Kenshin's direction for a moment. She turned and whispered back, unsure of what to else she could do, "Yes, father. I understand." Ada took her leave of the table as soon as she came, remembering quickly why they were who she socialized with the least tonight. No matter how things went, she could feel that her freedom was still in a precarious bind as long as they had their hostages. She just had to continue to bide her time and hope X could keep a promise he made to her just before coming to this event.
Ada heard the music start back up again soon after as she made he way around the room. It wasn't more than a minute and a half before she noticed the large man of the Kanda family's wealth step into her path. "Miss Ada Rio!" He acted surprised as he greeted her with a low bow; although a man of his stature could only lower himself so far at all. "I'd like the pleasure of your brilliant mind for a moment, please." Ada glanced around him to where Kenshin was but he stepped in the way, gesturing for her to follow him, but remained mindful not to lay a finger on her without her expressed permission. That wasn't to say he wasn't clearly without ulterior motives, and perhaps her detecting his nearly blatant scheming was what he wanted. Ada knew of Toru Kanda since her eleventh birthday, and had always been wary of him since. She uttered not a word as she was shepherded away from the ball room to an adjacent hall of equally regal decorum. "At last, a moment to ourselves. It sounds nice, doesn't it?" Even though it was just the two of them, she could tell they weren't actually alone. Toru always kept those creepy twins near his side to keep his hands unsullied. If she didn't expect political interference, she would gladly arrest him at the slightest infraction. "The sound of your own voice?' Ada bitterly replied to his non-contextual question already wanting to tell him to begone so that she could go see how Kenshin was doing with the other nobles. Toru's expression became stony for a moment, then disturbingly smug and he grinned with apparent malevolence, "Ada Rio-Kanda, my dear. I've waited long enough for you to realize what you need." A shiver ran down her spine and she battled her against her self control to strike this man. "A haunting thought, to say the least. I will never entertain your perverse obsession, Kanda." Toru maintained his slight grin, enjoying the view before retorting, "I'm sure you'd be right if I wasn't already commissioned for the headstones of Nozoru and Kaede Kyuri. I was shocked to hear of that disease they'd fallen victim to. To think their young daughter would be orphaned too..." His grin became almost unbearable as the series of shattering blows came against Ada's previously resilient composure. Toru shrugged and said, "I am almost certain that I could find a cure for that hapless family, but if I'm without a wife I would at least have time to help an orphan grow into a fine adult." With a dismissive shrug, the sinister implications of Toru's threat were left for Ada to bear and he began to excuse himself. Ada knew that her parents were being held as "guests" to the Rio, but she knew nothing of this other daughter. Her mind went blank and seething rage settled in. It was a feeling she'd only recently been exposed to when encountering Antioch. Her hand reached after Toru and in a flash metal sand was summoned and forged into a deadly blade poised to skewer him through the hollow space that could've been a beating heart. Ada snapped back to reality at the sound of chakra-hardened bone deflecting the magnetically forged blade. One of the silver-haired twins who protect Toru appeared seemingly out of thin air with a sword of Kaguya bones at the ready. Toru stopped and patronized Ada, "Ah ah ah, temper temper my bride to be. Enjoy what's left of the party... and your freedom." He chuckled and walked away, back through the doors and into the ballroom again. He'd said what he wanted her to hear.
Ada felt an enormous grip on her chest. It was painful, burning, and nearly debilitating. Toru's guard disappeared in a quiet blur as the nobleman returned to the party once more, leaving the woman to her own tribulations. Ada stared at her manifested weapon for a moment, realizing that she'd almost committed murder in cold blood. "Dammit! I haven't been myself." She quickly returned the molded metal back into her Enclosing Seal and looked out of a nearby window back unto the moon. "X... please, I'm begging you. Succeed." It was the closest thing to a prayer that she could muster before walking back into the ballroom too. Outside of the doors she was momentarily surprised to find Daichi seemingly waiting for her again, "Are y-" Ada interjected, "Fine. I am fine. Please continue to enjoy the Rio family's hospitality." Her eyes momentarily fixated on Toru Kanda just a ways past Daichi, but this time she sought optimism in the mental image of his despair. His and his parents schemes were crashing around them all as she seized her victory once and for all by beating them at their own disgusting games. "Right. Of course, I apologize." Daichi bowed to dismiss himself and slipped back into the crowd. Ada started looking around for any sign of Kenshin. She truly hoped he was faring well in this situation, or at least better than she was.

▱▰▱Kenshin was caught off guard by the warm welcome from the Rio family. He knew that Hajime sent them his information prior to his invitation but he assumed that he would not be welcomed at all. However, he was still skeptical given the duplicitous nature of the Rio described to him by Ada and Hajime. Kenshin quietly bowed once more before turning around to his Hyuga guards. "Two of you can stay with me. I want the rest of you posted at each exit and entry point. Help the security detail with whatever they require." Kenshin's anxiety was soothed by the ability to treat his Hyuga guards as he would his own officers. He pointed at each doorway that he saw and was internally disappointed by the sparseness of security guards. The Hyugas then bowed deeply before departing to their assigned checkpoints. It was then that Yui approached him and nonverbally urged him to go to the ballroom. He nodded before walking toward the nexus of the party's activities. "This cloak is so damn heavy. Are you sure it isn't a rug?" Kenshin clenched his jaw tightly as he pressed onward and tried to find Ada. Yui barely managed to hear Kenshin's grumbling and merely shook her head. "I'll have you know that cloak has been in your family for generations m'lord." She admonished Kenshin as he continued feeling uncomfortable with the massive white cloak weighing down his back. Kenshin continued grumbling as he entered the ballroom but was immediately swarmed by onlookers of his magnificent entrance.
It seemed like a dozen noblemen and women swarmed and encircled him, his attendant, and his guards but Kenshin could not keep count. With glasses of wine in their hands they all looked at Kenshin with immense interest. "Lord Hyuga, it's an honor to meet you." One of the older noblewomen said with a polite curtsy followed by a distracted head bow from Kenshin. He tried to look past the group and find Ada to no avail. Before he could activate his byakugan to locate her he was immediately besieged by one-sided conversations about family titles and wealth. His blank eyes glazed over further as he tried to listen. Thankfully, Yui seemed to be familiar with most of them already. Kenshin's disinterest only served to fascinate his fellow partygoers who broke his distraction with questions. "Lord Hyuga, I beg your pardon, but is it true that you awakened the first tenseigan and killed that Kogarashi fellow?" All side conversations ended as they focused pensively on Kenshin. The modest man felt somewhat embarrassed by the question but answered nonetheless. "I was the first, but I had Evergreen's aid. And yes, it was my duty to fight in the vanguard but there were many others there too." Kenshin spoke in a lackadaisical tone as he hoped that Yui would commandeer the conversation away from him. This hope was for naught as more questions followed. "How fascinating, my lord! With the tales I've heard of you, I must confess, I thought you'd be seven feet tall! Were you really at Seizan? A dreadful state of affairs that." Kenshin was growing more visibly uncomfortable with the strategic flattery. There were others who had more questions but Kenshin began looking away to see Ada return to the ballroom. "I'm 6'3" actually. I was with Lady Ada, she was my squad leader." The nobles who surrounded him gasped with amazement. Many noted that they did not know that. "Please pardon me." Kenshin immediately peeled away from the group as Yui stayed behind to catch up with her friends. He was certain that he would get an earful about the political ramifications of not speaking to the group further but that was a low priority. They seemed to be Hyuga clan allies with how well they knew his attendant but he did not care in the slightest.
As Kenshin made his way through the crowd and was stopped by more people, he noticed a tall blond man in armor stepping toward him. He led with a haughty expression and gait with a much shorter man who he assumed was his attendant. As he walked toward him he looked over and saw Ada which brought him to a brief halt. This was the first time he saw her all evening although his strong connections with the Rio family allowed him plenty of opportunities over the past week and a half. "Look at her, Eito, my future wife. Ada Rio is the most beautiful girl in the empire...that makes her the best! It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife!" Sir Hyosuke Hikari spoke loudly and proudly as he gandered at her from across the way. He was heir to the mid-tier nobility Hikari clan that were known for their hunting lodges and excellent networking. Hyosuke was prepared to do anything that the Rio clan asked for to get Ada well within their grasp. Kenshin heard Hyosuke's voice and sighed. He could tell that his voice was not as deep and manly as he was portraying. "She'll be all yours soon Lord Hyosuke, who could resist such a perfect and handsome specimen as yourself?!" Eito the attendant fawned over Hyosuke as Hyosuke stood as if he was at a fork in the road. He could either harass Ada immediately or settle his score with the man who came into his view, Kenshin Hyuga. Kenshin's late but bombastic entrance and reputation outmatched his own by far. With a chip on his shoulder, the knightly man took numerous clinking steps toward Kenshin. "Lord Kenshin Hyuga! It seems the tales are true of the Hyuga's b*****d being brought into the fold!" Hyosuke confidently stepped between him and Ada. His conversation with Kenshin would be well within earshot for the lady of the hour. How is everyone at this party so entitled to my time? Kenshin thought in annoyance as he clenched his jaw again. "That's accurate. I'm afraid I've never heard of you though." The Hyuga heir spoke through gritted teeth. Eito audibly scoffed at Kenshin's remark that he had never heard of the great Sir Hyosuke Hikari. "How could you not know of him?! Sir Hyosuke Hikari is the heir of the Hikari clan and the most gallant knight in all of the empire!" After Eito finished speaking, a crowd of young noble maidens began to gawk at him from a distance but stood next to Daichi, completely ignoring him. "Sir Hyosuke is back from the restroom. Oh isn't he so dreamy?!" The young women swooned over him and continued to make remarks of how cute he is within earshot of Daichi who no doubt knew that Hyosuke was not knighted by Shiro but instead by his own father and therefore carried very little legitimacy in that regard.
Before Hyosuke could feign his own outrage, he saw the Rio's cupbearer from earlier refilling the golden wine pitcher. His pride was wounded since the last event where she rejected his drunken advancements. She tried to avoid eye contact with him but he shoved his way past Kenshin to confront her. "You! I remember you from the last soiree! Leading me on and turning cold at the last minute, toying with me, the gall!" Hyosuke yelled and berated the woman some more as Kenshin turned away from Ada with his guards. "M'lord I meant you no disrespect, please!" The nervous young woman felt her eyes tear up as she finished filling the pitcher. She began walking back toward the Rio table as quickly as she could but was pursued. "Maiden, you are to warm my bed until my wedding night to Ada Rio, do you know who I am?! Don't you dare walk away from me you slut!" Hyosuke became increasingly hostile and vicious as the young woman felt the tears in her eyes roll down her face. Kenshin then stepped between them as he pointed at his guards to follow her as she ran away. It seemed that she needed the protection of his guards far more than he did. "That's enough." Kenshin's voice was seething as he stood in the spoiled prince's way. The ire in Hyosuke's expression flickered with smugness at Kenshin's challenge. "I see that even a famous swordsman like yourself has forgotten to bring his blade." Kenshin raised an eyebrow and perceived this as a threat. "I didn't think I'd need one." Kenshin responded flatly before the princeling before him laughed haughtily. "Not that a lifelong b*****d like you would understand, but you need to bring your sword to these events for the duels between the suitors." Hyosuke condescended as he removed his massive and impressive cleaver from his back to show off to Kenshin. Kenshin shook his head before responding curtly. "If I need one then I'll use yours." The idea of needing to bring a weapon to a ballroom dance soiree seemed absurd. Since Yui did not prepare him in advance for such an occasion he assumed that Hyosuke was full of hot air. "Oh really, my sword? How do you picture that happening exactly?" Hyosuke leveled his challenge on Kenshin who neglected to mention that technically Kenshin always had access to his spirit sword Getsuruito. "I suppose I'll have to take it from you." Hyosuke laughed even louder as Eito joined in with a mocking cackle. "Let's see it then, take my sword from me. I'll make it easy for you!" Hyosuke stepped three feet back as he held out the handle of his sword for Kenshin to take. Ada and Daichi would be able to see and hear this whole interaction including what came before with ease. Many of the attendees stopped dancing and began looking at the two as they noticed that a big sword was drawn. "You can make it not so easy." Hyosuke half scoffed and half chuckled as he raised the massive blade to Kenshin's face. In a blur, Kenshin lunged forward and placed his arm on the flat side of the sword before vining his arm around. Once he did so he used his opposite hand to slam into his forearm, causing the blade to fly upward. Kenshin then caught the handle as he easily disarmed the far less experienced swordsman. The crowd gasped as they watched Kenshin take the legendary knight's sword from him in less than a second. "What the...you mud blood bast-" Hyosuke immediately threw a punch at Kenshin face before the agile warrior slid to the side. Kenshin then slammed the pommel on the greatsword into Hyosuke's adam's apple. "OGGGGGGH!" The wind was knocked out of the man's lungs as he felt his adam's apple become lodged in his throat. The "knight" who was no more powerful than the average man choked and collapsed onto the floor in front of Kenshin and continuously gasped for air. Immediately, the crowd gasped even louder as Eito tried to tend to the choking man in shock. "He'll be fine, just take him home. Here you go." Eito was clearly panicked as Kenshin handed the greatsword to him and walked away from the scene. The onlookers were shocked by the briefest of duels and to see the "great knight" vanquished with such ease. Kenshin left Eito and the Hikari family to help him up and take him home.
Before Kenshin could make his way to Ada he saw Daichi standing by himself. What caught his attention was a golden badge adorning his breast. He recognized it as a royal guard badge for the emperor himself. Kenshin respectfully bowed and firmly shook his hand. "Thank you for your service in the imperial guard. That's an honorable path you're on." In contrast to Kenshin's immense disrespect to the charlatan Hyosuke, he gave his fellow military officer just praise. It was refreshing to see another serviceman at the party. After exchanging a few words with him Kenshin would bow once more. "Please excuse me, I've yet to speak with the woman of the hour." Kenshin would part from Daichi, unsure if he was a suitor as well or not. He was finally able to approach Ada and bowed before presenting his card. He was informed by his attendant Yui that suitors were expected to give their contact card to the woman he was a marriage candidate for at the beginning of every event and that she would use these cards to choose her escort home. He presented his card with both hands and it was clearly just his no-frills work card from the APD. Once his card was received a new song was started as Hyosuke was hauled out of the party and the guests returned to dancing. "May I?" Kenshin extended his hand before bowing once more. This was an offer to dance to the slow song. Should she accept, he would lead her by the hand to the center of the ballroom as the guests parted a path for them. Kenshin would place a hand on her waist and dance slowly before moving his lips to her ear. This seemed to be the best opportunity they had to speak privately while the event was going on. He had yet to see or meet Toru who was giving Ada trouble unbeknownst to him. "What's wrong? You look nervous." Kenshin spoke with humble concern as it seemed obvious that Ada was distressed by something. Having seen her in many situations that caused her anxiety he felt confident in his assessment and was more than willing to help her. He removed his lips from her ear as they danced to the slow music and awaited her response.

Half the resource cost of techniques from the rapier style of Sen Gekiretsu Nagareboshi applied allows the technique to carry the tenketsu sealing effects of a same-rank palm strike such as a B-Rank carrying 64 Palms effects. Getsuruito must be in its rapier form to use this ability and 5 chakra can be spent upon activation of this technique to transform it as such. The Righteous Sword of the Sentinel technique has a 10 post duration before necessitating re-activation and costs an E-Rank amount of chakra. Smiting Blade of the Night Watch [ Naitō Otchi no Sumittinguburēdo ] | Rank X | Bukijutsu [ Lightning ] | Spiritual When this technique is activated it crackles violently with night blue lightning for the entire duration. The electricity from the blade also forms bolts of lightning over the body of the user and appears to supercharge them. Whenever the blade is swung or thrust over the duration the user can fire a concentrated blast of ten bolts of lightning to accompany the strike equal to the rank applied but for only half the cost to initiate the technique. Hatake, Raiu, and Sage enhanced lightning can pass through the blade and apply to these lightning bolts. The bolts cause a thunderously deafening sonic boom and can inflict tier 2 burns upon direct contact with the lightning. Additionally, these lightning bolts can be freely applied to all complex bukijutsu for no action cost to smite enemies. The only action cost is when the technique is activated and all subsidiary abilities of the technique do not consume actions and only chakra. This ability can be used in both forms of Getsuruito.
Draconic Sabre of Moon Sundering [ Getsu Sandaringu no Dorakonikku Seibā ] | Rank X | Bukijutsu [ Lightning ] | Complex This is the original ability of the ancient Getsuruito blade and thus requires the original katana form. 5 chakra can be spent to transform the blade to its original form upon activation of this technique. Crackling and thunderous dark blue lightning can be applied to the katana's edge at any rank and the same lightning can form a dragon head formed from electricity over the body of the user for 10 posts. This allows all spiritual techniques the sword comes into contact with to be slashed through and even cut in half at the same rank despite the complex nature of the technique. For half of the original cost to activate the technique a same-rank spiritual electrical energy slash can be sent out from the slash of the blade. This same cost can be applied to any complex bukijutsu to achieve the same effect. The original 10 post activation of this ability consumes an action but all subsidiary abilities do not.

__ Not long after returning from her hostile discussion with Kanda did Ada begin to hear murmurs and chattering amidst the music and dancing. Those particular outlier seemed most focused on a scene that was only developing at the time, centered around an encounter between two suitors. At first, Ada didn't pay much mind to the thought of more of these fools tearing each other apart over things they did not deserve and would not have if she could help it. However, there was a mere utterance of a Hyuuga being involved and her curiosity (as well as concern) was peaked. Ada made her way around and through several small groups in the spacious venue to find Kenshin Hyuga and the one who introduced himself as Hyosuke Hikari earlier this week. The pretentious man seemed quite hollow to her, perhaps at least as much as most other entitled sorts. Such would be expected when a boy whose father and grandfathers were overshadowing his lack of actual effort then left him with all of their collective wealth due to untimely deaths. 'As I recall, Lord Matsunaga Hikari was another casualty of the Kogarashi War.' She was disappointed that Hyosuke lacked the will or resolve to follow in such heroes' footsteps. However, it was nice to see such a clear difference between two heirs of similar circumstance. Not that Ada had any reason to doubt Kenshin on the matter.
Ada weighed on whether she should be paying the exchange too much mind, but Hyosuke rudely set Kenshin aside to settle some uncouth score with a simple servant girl. Daichi lingered at the edge of crowd near several other maidens of the guest families. He could see Ada also watching from across the way, so the lack of attention on his part was of no bother to him- especially with the way Lord Hikari was behaving at the time. However, seeing that her attention was clearly on Kenshin made him reflect on her dismissal from earlier this evening. Daichi He began to step forth to intervene with Hyosuke, but Kenshin would take care of the matter in moments. Ada was easily as apalled as several other women in the crowd, but silence was all that remained after Hyosuke was escorted away for a needed recovery. What most of the Rio's guests didn't realize of tonight was that they secretly welcomed a battle among the suitors as much as they openly expected sophisticated socialization. It was unlikely that Hyosuke would return by the night's end, and Ada was certainly glad for that. She saw Toru also watching everything afar from his table so she hurriedly began to walk away with the others.
The crowds were mostly dispersed, save for the remaining curious onlookers who were still interested in the aftermath of that encounter. Daichi was one of them. Admittedly, he was mostly just lost in thought, but also felt a new bond form. At first, he felt a sense of rivalry with Kenshin. Not in the immature, machismo way that Hyosuke or other suitors might display, but as a person. He could tell just from that that the stories of one of Arashigakure's Sannin were likely true and that he lacked too much as he was to begin to compare. However, he snapped back to when Kenshin took the time to approach him. Daichi offered Kenshin a polite bow just before spoken to. He wasn't sure if he was the next opponent to be eliminated, but he was prepared to hold his ground all the same. No, instead he earned the promptest of praise. "Thank you. And thank you for your service to our nation, Lord Kenshin Hyuga." Daichi appreciatively accepted his hand shake and watched him follow after Ada. That feeling of rivalry gave room for admiration. 'Treat her well, Kenshin Hyuga. May you be fortunate enough to earn the key to that enigmatic woman's guarded heart.' His somewhat feigned smile came apart with a bittersweet acceptance that others here wouldn't understand. He then left to join the dancing in hopes of distraction and alleviation of his heavy heart.
Ada's pace slowed upon hearing rather intent footsteps near from behind. Although he did not wear his usual attire, she could tell just from the weight of his footfalls that it was Kenshin. She turned to face him just before he would offer his card. Daringly, she addressed him before accepting the card with a smile and with such familiarity, "I'm glad to see you, Kenshin." One of her attendants would arrive with ever-impeccable promptness and take his card to where she safely kept the rest. It was quickly clear that what he was asking for was her to join him for the upcoming song to be played. Dignified and certain, Ada would accept the only offer to dance all night despite her mother's previous protests or her boundless opinions and suggestions. "I would be honored, ." Her hand fell into his as it was offered and followed him past the parting others to the dancing area. Along the way she waved her hand across her dress as if brushing something away, but instead enacted a magnetic force to trigger the mechanisms in the venue's sun roof. At that same moment, a soft breeze caused by a simple wind jutsu would leave their dance in the moonlight. Uncertainty led her to take subtle efforts to make this night as memorable as she could- just in case the worst might happen. The less regrets she might walk away with after tonight, the better. With the moon's pale glow alighting their dancing space, she followed Kenshin's lead. She made an effort to block out the variously toned whispers and ongoing gossip so that she could just focus on this moment. She tried to leave her anger and fear away with the spectators. It helped for Ada to focus on her growing love for the man she danced with; although, she couldn't deny the bonus satisfaction in how this dance alone was her most daring show of defiance yet. If she had been looking, a few who appeared most scornful of her would have surely been most of her adoptive family and especially Toru Kanda. After a short while into their dance he leaned in and asked about her being nervous. Admittedly, she almost wanted to confide in him, but she had already given her trust to X to help her with that particular chunk of anxiety. What was more, Ada truly did not want him to feel obligated to leave her alone here even if it were for her sake. She would make him aware of her personal trials in due time, no doubt. Ada simply smiled up at him and replied in a half-joking whisper, "If you were expected to choose a stranger to marry tonight, wouldn't you be nervous? Let us just enjoy this, please?" She allowed herself to remain close to him as she continued to match his tempo and footwork. For a moment she remembered his embrace when they spoke in private a week ago, only sweetening the memory for her own sake. About halfway through the moonlit dance, Ada would compliment, "I feel it is safe to say your skill as a warrior has helped you become quite a dancer. I'm impressed, Kenshin." Of course, she had no prior knowledge of his rhythmic ability, but she could ask for no better partner to share this moment with right now. By this point, most of those watching the dance were also impressed, frustrated, or sometimes both. They could undeniably see an intimacy between the dignified Rio woman and the distinguished national hero as the dance carried on into the music's conclusion.
A rolling applause ensued from the crowd as the dance ended. Ada executed a soft snap of her fingers at her side, causing the lights she had extinguished earlier relighted without delay. "Thank you for the dance, Sir Kenshin." She offered him a low curtsy, showing acknowledgment for his superior status despite how awkward he might find such formalities. She felt it best to remind him to maintain his own image no matter where his focus may be- especially tonight. Ada had no doubt that the attendant he arrived with was surely to congratulate for the progress she made with Kenshin to this point. Even so, one could only say they had gained a wholesome lesson if taught without bias. Shortly after this, a servant of the Kanda family approached while others rejoined the dance floor or moved along elsewhere. "M'lady, my lord requests your presence at his table." Ada closed her eyes for a moment as if to think, but was actually exercising restraint that even tested her training. "No. I believe Sir Kenshin said he had a matter he wished to discuss with me." She then reopened her eyes to the servant who suddenly seemed quite distressed, "Please, m'lady! My lord insists!" Ada shook her head and offered Kenshin her hand, "I won't ask you to remind Sir Toru of his manners, for that would be unfair to you. Even still, tell him that I expect his patience as much as any would of a man of his... appeal." The apparent dismissal was impossible to mistake, and the servant quickly departed. Ada momentarily looked to Kenshin and smiled in an attempt to reassure him, "Come, let us find your reservation so we can speak." She wasn't allowed to have further physical contact with him or any of the suitors away from in a dance. Kenshin would surely feel the ire of all the other suitors who had failed to also have the same opportunity he'd just spoiled for them.
Before long they'd arrive at his reserved table where some of his entourage awaited to take his orders. They had a some refreshments and baked treats they brought from Kumoito prepared in advance for if Kenshin requested them. As she found a seat at his table across from Kenshin, Ada would give him another compliment, "Pardon me for saying so out of the blue, but you do wear those robes and cape very well." She smiled, taking in the image of a new Kenshin that wasn't her superior officer or fellow war veteran. A Hyuuga servant helped her get situated and she would ask to taste one of the cakes and for jade tea with it. When it was just the two of them again she would swallow a drink of her tea and say, "Admittedly, tonight felt like an eternity until you arrived. I was almost worried you would be too busy helping get things back to normal around the village." She took a corner of her cake and tried it, finding the sweetness of the pureed strawberry to be quite synergystic with the thin layer of creme dividing the cakes soft yet velvety texture. "Mm, and your family's deserts are stupendous." Small talk honestly wasn't what she'd taken him aside for, but it was best to act normal for those surely still keeping a close eye on her from afar. Of course, none of them would be able to tell the difference after she'd cast a False Surroundings illusion in their space while reaching for the cloth resting on her lap. When she raised the napkin to wipe her lips of any crumbs a small glyph on the face of her right wrist's bracelet became alight. Noticing this, Ada turned her arm so that the top of that wrist was facing up then connected to the glyph with her own chakra. An astral projection of X appeared atop of her wrist, much like it had with the small disc-shaped device she had while they were on assignment in the Land of Fire. Ada stared very worriedly at her trusted friend, glad that he seemed to be okay- perfectly fine, in fact. X noticed Ada's hesitation to ask for his report, so he took the initiative, "Miss Kyuri, be at ease. Your family is safe now. I regret to inform you that there were casualties, but I did my best to limit the loss of life during the rescue." Ada's free hand rested over her mouth and she held back her tears of joy. Her relief suddenly paused and she interjected, "Did you find a young girl with Nozoru and Kaede- my sister?" Ada felt bad that she hadn't been able to tell him before he began his work on her behalf, but she was also afraid of interrupting him and ruining the operation entirely. X raised his right hand as a gesture to tell her to remain calm, "At the time I wasn't aware that you had a sister, but she is also safe with your parents. She introduced herself as Mikumi; I would describe her as-" Ada had already heard everything she wanted to and interrupted him with a deep thanks, "Let me be surprised for this one, X. Thank you so much. I cannot possibly repay you for this." She looked up at Kenshin across the table and rephrased, "We cannot thank you enough." X felt puzzled, not sure why she wouldn't want to know more about her sister prior to meeting, but chalked it up to another odd human manner he'd have to observe to eventually understand. On second though, X wondered if his want to meet his lost sibling that Ada had been developing might be a close enough comparison. "I will escort them to safety as planned. Please enjoy the rest of your night, Miss Kyuri." Ada nodded and mouthed another thank you to the autonomous puppet man before they ended their transmission. Ada took a deep breath, held it for a couple seconds and exhaled with a controlled slowness to regulate her heartbeat first and foremost. "At last..." She looked back at the Rio's table where her adoptive parents sat. "... I'll finally be free." They stared with clear discontent at her genjutsu's illusion of her and Kenshin enjoying tea and treats over a probably insignificant conversation. She looked back to Kenshin again and asked with an almost intimidating bluntness, "Did you mean what you said before? Would you truly want me as your wife?" This question was as much pointed at him as it was at her. She honestly believed he wouldn't lie to her, or ever for that matter. However, she would not let him have any regrets for saying yes without understanding the bigger picture of it all. Perhaps it could simply be a political union between the Hyuuga and Rio, but she had been led to believe it could be more. She also wanted avoid disappointing herself down the road for being too blinded with her desire to break away from her family that she didn't see such a crucial flag.

▱▰▱Yui watched the less than civil engagement with Hyosuke in horror. She held a hand to her mouth at the Hikari heir's outrageous misogyny but was only further horrified by the ensuing violence. She screeched when she witnessed Hyosuke fall to the ground after he attempted to strike Kenshin. Goodness gracious me! This was NOT in my training at all! The immensely talented attendant and etiquette teacher had no idea what to do. She was accustomed to privately tutoring young boys in the Hyuga clan on matters that would be required for their future nobility so Kenshin as a grown man was already a unique challenge. She was horrified by what the others would think of her after her first assigned full-grown nobleman got in a fight at a gentry gala. However, Yui admired the Hyuga clan all her life for their immense battle prowess and she found that this shock was leavened partially by pride in Kenshin's skills in dueling and that he defended a low-born woman's honor as well. At the same time, her personal feelings were immaterial based on the potential political ramifications of this violent engagement that she would have to report to Lord Hajime. Knowing not what to do, she lowered her hand and gave a pleasant smile to the others when the festivities resumed while also keeping a watchful eye on Kenshin.
Kenshin felt nervous when he realized that Ada watched the whole minor melee he engaged in with one of his rival suitors. His anxiety swelled up when he walked to her after meeting and exchanging service-based praise with Daichi. However, as always, Ada found the perfect way to ease the captain's jaw-clenching tension. When Kenshin led her by the hand he watched her open the intricate system of sunroof panels. Moonbeams illuminated the center of the dance floor as the nobles gathered to watch the dance. As they gathered, Yui felt a surge of adrenaline and shock that Ada accepted his offer after rejecting every Tom, d**k, and Harry at the party even after she watched him send one of the suitors home with a neck injury. Yui forced her way to the front of the crowd with profuse apologies. "Excuse me, pardon me, excuse me, sorry my lady, that's my lord up there!" Yui's face radiated with pride and excitement once she managed to get to the right vantage point to watch the dance. She placed two hands over her heart as Kenshin took the lead in the steps just as she taught him earlier in the week. Kenshin would not notice Yui for just as Ada would block out the spectators he would as well. When Ada smiled up at him admiringly and gently asked him to drop it he simply nodded and returned her embrace before raising her hand and twirling her. This allowed the flowing bottom of her dress to elegantly twirl while his cloak billowed behind him as he grabbed her waist again and pulled her in once more. "Eeeeeee!" Yui chirped in uncontrolled giddiness before immediately covering her mouth and giving an apologetic returning glance to the others who looked at her. She felt her own heart swell as she watched the romantic dance reach its peak. Kenshin felt his face flush slightly at his dancing partner's flattery. "I hope so, I only learned to dance this week. I'm not used to dances that don't involve bleeding." He then realized that his blunt honesty was not fully accepting the compliment and while he did not mean it as a joke he silently hoped the comment would make her smile. As all the witnesses assuredly felt the dancing duo's deeper connection Kenshin released her hand and pulled her in close with the hand on her waist before elegantly spinning with her at the song's climax. Yui's smile grew even more as she placed her hands together to be the first to clap. This gruff man has something else on his side." Yui observed briefly as Kenshin placed her down, released her from his tight grasp, and bowed once again at the romantic waltz's conclusion. Yui was the first to clap before immediately cheering in uncontrolled excitement. "WOOOOOOO!" Yui yelled and continued applauding as she caught Kenshin's attention. He nodded at her in grateful acknowledgment of her role in this. When Ada thanked him he returned his full attention to her. "My distinct pleasure, my lady." Kenshin matched her formality with a newly budding fluency in noble pleasantries. However, she was immediately disarmed all over again by her low curtsy in recognition of his status. When it was time to go to the restaurant, he followed her lead to the table after she rejected some other suitor. As they walked away, Yui gathered with her attendant colleagues from other houses and excitedly accepted some well-earned praise in teaching Kenshin to dance in only a few days. She felt deep satisfaction in a mission accomplished and quickly forgave Kenshin's transgression with Hyosuke before deciding to give him space for the rest of the evening. The attendant knew that he could take it from here.
When Kenshin sat down with Ada he felt excitement at the occasion but still played his role as the stern and dignified future head clansman. His eyes remained hardened and sharp but fixated on Ada's beauty and grace. Kenshin was a man of few pleasantries and courtesies himself but he found Ada's skill in such affairs to be acutely charming. Even with his natural carved-from-stone visage, he could not help but blush at her complement of his clothing. "Thank you. You should wear green more." Kenshin admired her fine dress before gently and briefly fanning himself with a cloth napkin before resting it in his lap. When she spoke to him again he felt reassured yet again that his presence was appreciated. "No, I don't think there's any going back after this." Kenshin shook his head at the unfortunate state of affairs. The devastation wrought by the criminal mastermind clearly still loomed large over the worrying law enforcement leader before he supremely dismissed it. "This whole week has felt like an eternity to me. I've missed you." Kenshin admitted before taking a bite of bread and avoiding the desserts. He was referring to Ada's frequent time off placating her adoptive family but still politely rejecting the hoards of pompous suitors. Nonetheless, it was clear from his tone that Kenshin felt a deep longing in the time between their last private conversation and now. Her compliment of the Hyuga clan's desserts caused him to nod. "I'm glad you like them. I've never taken to desserts." Kenshin made a mental note of Ada's sweet tooth as espresso was placed on the table for him to substitute his dessert. He gulped it quickly and was slightly dismayed by the coffee's scarcity yet higher quality. Cheap drip coffee roasting in a massive pot at the precinct was what he was accustomed to but this would have to do. Kenshin then rejected wine for dessert with a polite wave of his hand over the wine glass. "I don't drink but it's okay if you do. I must admit that I do smoke cigarettes occasionally but I'm trying to cut back on that." The sannin shared more of his smaller quirks with Ada. He supposed that while cigarettes were more harmful that he would prefer to keep his state of mind intact and avoid foolish drunkenness and debauchery.
Kenshin then quietly watched as Ada received a vital report from X regarding the safety of her biological family. I knew it, this is what she was worried about. Ada would see his eyes that were normally as hard as stone soften into a kind and concerned fog under the shroud of her illusion. He temporarily tensed his ocular veins to see the chakra presence in every onlooker's nervous system from the enchantment. He immediately reverted his byakugan and continued staring at her and occasionally glancing at X's hologram. When she was assured by X that all was well and thanked him on his behalf as well Kenshin nodded. "Yes, thank you, X." The captain responded in his usual resolute way. Kenshin felt his protective instincts surge despite Ada's expression of relief. "What happened? Why were they in danger? Does there need to be legal action?" The police officer hurled multiple questions out of concern for Ada before he was silenced by a question of her own. This was the paramount question that underly the romantic tension that had been between them for so long even before that conversation. The question seemed almost ridiculous to him because of its obviousness in his own mind temporarily forgetting that he was cut off by Ada before he could fully express himself during their last engagement. "Absolutely!" Kenshin blurted out and sounded almost angry before inhaling and recomposing himself. He looked at the crystal chandelier above them for a few brief moments before looking down again with an even more gentle gaze. "Ada..." Kenshin said her name with a gentleness in his voice that had never fallen on anyone's ears before. He reached out and placed his hand on her's again in the exact same way as the last time they opened up to each other. "I have something very important to say to you that's been eating away at me for...so long." When he paused at the length of time he felt his usually unyielding voice choke up slightly. With their fingers interlaced, Kenshin flowed chakra through her nervous system with an enchantment of his own. "I need to show you. Close your eyes, lock everyone else out of your mind's eye." The heir gave her a trusting glance as he breathed in and shut his eyes. Ada would begin to feel like she was in a dream state as Kenshin began to share emotions with accompanying visions of memories. While Kenshin despised genjutsu's dishonorable use in combat he was accustomed to using this technique for interrogation purposes but obviously refined for this unique situation. The first vision would be a young Kenshin crying in his mother's cell in the Gimangakure Prison after being beaten while looking up at the stars through the barred windows. The accompanying sense of dread would be dismissed quickly as it transitioned to him leaving the prison when he was younger and taking the long march through the Land of Fire and Hot Springs to Kumogakure. More visions followed of Kenshin being de-legitimized, creating his new name, attending the shinobi academy, and painstakingly becoming literate and learning basic arithmetic. All the while she felt the instances of his emotions and the grudge he felt against criminals. Then she would see him walk into the KPD where they first met and became a rookie officer. This version of Kenshin was more recognizable to her as she continued to share emotions and memories with him from a third-person perspective. She would feel how his heart swelled when he first saw her. Then she would see the less talented and experienced version of him loyally following behind her all the while admiring her through the early, mid, and later stages of the UHV war. "Love is the death of duty is what I kept telling myself. I suppressed what I felt for you out of fear that I would stumble in my obligations." These visions and feelings came and go like the tides before they parted ways. He went to the APD while her talent and connections landed her in the royal guard. She would feel his deep longing for her over the five years that was suppressed by his attempts to shut out any distractions. Kenshin's commitment to her even in her absence from his life could be profoundly felt. "I then realized how wrong I was." She would see and feel how she felt when he returned and then eventually see a vision of his first encounter with Evergreen. The waves of euphoria from that religious memory would be shared between them, however, most importantly she could feel the moment that Kenshin thought of her face and knew that he could allow her into his heart. "My devotion to you made me better." She would then see when they fought alongside each other against Sandayu as well as his constant concern for her but also inspiration from her to keep going. "My life was miserable and I didn't care if I died before I accepted what I felt for you." The memories would then finally show the more recent times of peace and attempts to pursue her that were restrained by his professional obligations to her but small acts of kindness on her behalf were on full display. Once the visions went blank again Kenshin would release her from the cantrip. "Open your eyes." He gently commanded as he opened his own. His entire soul as a man was just laid before her. "My heart was stone but trembled and yearned for you for ten years. I've never met anyone like you and I've never told anyone this before." Although it felt like much more time had passed the visions were only present for five minutes. "I can't be with anyone else. I'm wholly devoted to you." Kenshin felt himself choking up a second time as his soft stare intensified and his grip on her hand tightened. "I love you." These were the words that burned a hole into his core for so many years but were now finally being expressed. He waited in nervous but excited anticipation of his complete honesty and vulnerability to her.

Half the resource cost of techniques from the rapier style of Sen Gekiretsu Nagareboshi applied allows the technique to carry the tenketsu sealing effects of a same-rank palm strike such as a B-Rank carrying 64 Palms effects. Getsuruito must be in its rapier form to use this ability and 5 chakra can be spent upon activation of this technique to transform it as such. Smiting Blade of the Night Watch [ Naitō Otchi no Sumittinguburēdo ] | Rank X | Bukijutsu [ Lightning ] | Spiritual When this technique is activated it crackles violently with night blue lightning for the entire duration. The electricity from the blade also forms bolts of lightning over the body of the user and appears to supercharge them. Whenever the blade is swung or thrust over the duration the user can fire a concentrated blast of ten bolts of lightning to accompany the strike equal to the rank applied but for only half the cost to initiate the technique. Hatake, Raiu, and Sage enhanced lightning can pass through the blade and apply to these lightning bolts. The bolts cause a thunderously deafening sonic boom and can inflict tier 2 burns upon direct contact with the lightning. Additionally, these lightning bolts can be freely applied to all complex bukijutsu for no action cost to smite enemies. The only action cost is when the technique is activated and all subsidiary abilities of the technique do not consume actions and only chakra. This ability can be used in both forms of Getsuruito.
Draconic Sabre of Moon Sundering [ Getsu Sandaringu no Dorakonikku Seibā ] | Rank X | Bukijutsu [ Lightning ] | Complex This is the original ability of the ancient Getsuruito blade and thus requires the original katana form. 5 chakra can be spent to transform the blade to its original form upon activation of this technique. Crackling and thunderous dark blue lightning can be applied to the katana's edge at any rank and the same lightning can form a dragon head formed from electricity over the body of the user for 10 posts. This allows all spiritual techniques the sword comes into contact with to be slashed through and even cut in half at the same rank despite the complex nature of the technique. For half of the original cost to activate the technique a same-rank spiritual electrical energy slash can be sent out from the slash of the blade. This same cost can be applied to any complex bukijutsu to achieve the same effect. The original 10 post activation of this ability consumes an action but all subsidiary abilities do not.

__ Ada had chuckled at Kenshin's attempt to return flattery of her attire. She knew what he meant, and that he did have a hard time expressing himself. Like him, she'd decline to have another glass of wine, "No, thank you. I should keep my head clear for the rest of the evening." She wouldn't say much more on the matter X had just helped her family with right now. Ada knew that Kenshin likely knew how to read between the lines given their profound experience in detective work, but she was determined to finish this herself tonight. Extremely contrary to her previous belief about Kenshin's ability to express himself, Ada was very very promptly answered with an almost startling certainty to his voice. For a moment, she felt her walls start to rise out of fear for the worst. However, those walls failed to even stand before he broke his moment of following recomposing silence and he took her hand into his. "Kenshin?" Ada asked with a tone of uncertainty.
It was perfectly clear in her head that this was to become a confession of some kind; however, she could not have possibly braced her heart for what ensued. Ada kept her eyes closed as asked and was carried through her suitor's memories in such a way that only Kenshin could. A genjutsu, she presumed, was cast upon her for the sake of walking her through many key moments in the man's life. As they spoke of before in the Land of Fire, she saw him living as a youth in Gimangakure's prison, eventually finding his way and place in Kumogakure with the KPD- and her. His admiration was impressive, even during the time they worked and eventually fought alongside each other. 'I never even...' She could clearly see her in her youth- so focused and so valorous, yet still so ignorant. Then she experienced the emotional turmoil which was ultimately suppressed in the following years so that Kenshin could instead focus on his duty to uphold justice in Arashigakure. His words cut at her soul with swelling pangs of self-directed anger, 'Love is the death of duty.' She couldn't begin to find the words to apologize for the man to suffer the emotional injustice she inflicted upon him. While it was clear from his memories and his words that he blamed himself for it all, she wouldn't so easily surrender her own guilt in the matter. Kenshin was true, as always. While she had her reservations for the goddess, Ada couldn't deny that the divine woman had helped Kenshin find peace in himself. She also remembered how he was when they spoke together of Kogarashi's threat to the world. For years, she wondered why it was impossible to settle matters diplomatically with the insurgents, but she had mostly come to accept that it was Kogarashi that failed to seek any route other than violence. Neverminding that now, Ada found herself gripping Kenshin's hand quite tightly by the time he ended his illusion and asked her to look upon him again. It took so much for her to maintain her own genjutsu in those fleeting moments in reality which had felt like a brief lifetime. After having just restrained her feelings at the safety reclaimed for her family, she felt that she might not have enough in her to still stay composed. 'No, I have to stay strong now. No matter the cost.' She reminded herself as he continued toward the conclusion of his incredible confession of love. No, none of that was even close to the feeling she suddenly experienced when three one-syllable words were uttered at the very end. Five minutes summarized a life time, and those five minutes were further condensed in three words. Her mind drew a blank for a moment. A slight sense of vertigo set in, her heartbeat clearly felt by Kenshin through her hand clenching his as if not wanting to let go, and all of her strength remained spent on maintaining the illusion for their talk as well as restraining her tears of guilt, but more importantly: euphoria. "Kenshin..." Her expression was so hard to read right now. In fact, she had no idea what it might be as a hurricane of emotions and thoughts swirled about with this moment as the eye of its storm. It was hard to admit while feeling so inadequate in comparison, but she knew her feelings would be as true as her reply, "I love you too. Thank you, truly, for everything. I could not be more blessed to have met you ten years, or more thankful that you have been so genuinely sincere with me right now." Not even a few heartbeats after saying this, she would hear Shojiro call attention to the Rio's table with a ringing of his gently struck glass which echoed even over the music and chatter.
The Rio patriarch's voice seized the festivities, "Attention everyone! It is now the moment which everyone has been waiting for tonight! My daughter, Ada Rio, will proudly accept the mantle as heir to our family. She will lead the Rio in matrimony with one of your esteemed noble families' sons as her husband. Again, I thank you all from the bottoms of our hearts for offering to open your homes and lives to my beloved child!" Ada quickly recentered herself and nodded to him, "Especially right now. I love you." Ada said again, as if to remind herself as much reaffirm it for him. She released his hand and synchronized the end of her False Illusion to be of her leaving the Hyuuga's table to answer her father's beckoning. All eyes followed Ada until she arrived with her family, and silence ensued. The handmaiden who was charged with handling her suitor's cards approached soon after and offered her three. "Where is the last one?" Ada asked after observing that only Hyosuke, Toru and Daichi were present options. The servant only so briefly glanced at Shojiro before dismissing herself as quickly as she could, mouthing an apology to Ada as she left. Shojiro looked over his shoulder expectantly of Ada, smiling as if to seem excited to his guests, but clearly lording his supposed victory over her rebelliousness. "Please, daughter, let us know who you wish to lead our family and theirs toward ultimate prosperity." Murmurs and hushed whispers followed for a moment until Shojiro's gaze fell back on an audience who was expected to be silent in this important moment. Ada glared with a nearly destructive fire in her eyes, hate was more than apparent, but she still did not utter a word while she resisted the urge to burn the three cards in her hand with a simple application of raiton chakra. "Come now, daughter, we mustn't let anyone get hurt because you lost your nerve." He patronized her further, and her mind turned over as she considered how to put an end to all of this once and for all. Ada closed her eyes, turned to face out toward the anxious onlookers, and took a deep breath while resting the suitors' cards upon the upturned palm of her right hand. Her left hand was slowly brought to rest atop her right, and a bright illumination of energy shone through the cracks of her fingers and a proud, defiant glare was directed at the masses, but settling specifically upon Toru Kanda. "What have you d- ack? Urk..." Ada snapped her left hand, enacting an enchantment genjutsu which would silence the patriarch long enough for her to do what she had to do. From there, both hands were held out ahead of herself and a statue of various precious metals was magnetically sculpted faster than any untrained eye could hope to perceive. The statue stood less than twenty feet ahead of the Rio table for all to see; it depicted Ada and Keshin during their dance with a keenness to detail that one would normally have needed if they had watched from afar instead of being directly involved. Such was the acuteness of her mind and talent, which she had gladly turned against those who coveted her like mindless beasts. "Hear me! I, Ada Rio, have chosen my betrothed! Sir Kenshin Hyuga is the future of the Rio family. Henceforth, I will also endeavor to be of service to the Imperial Hyuuga clan." Upon finishing this declaration, Ada released her genjutsu on Shojiro who gasped for air for a few moments. The Rio matriarch, Hirika, watched in amazement for Ada's bold, arguably foolish decision. She did her best to stay out of her husband's darker dealings, focusing most on consoling and raising their shunned offspring. Honestly, the woman was surprised that her husband hadn't simply tried to elope with their adopted daughter and leave the rest of them high and dry. Hirika had overheard a discussion between Shojiro and Toru prior to this gala, but wouldn't have dared to oppose the sinister dealing out of fear for her and her children. Noting his wife's silence and seeming admiration, Shojiro found his voice just before the crowds started to reach a small uproar, "You will regret this, Ada!" His voice was raspy and hard to hear beyond their table- those in the room beyond the Rio would certainly not hear his threat. Ada turned her head to look at the pathetic man and replied, "No, Shojiro, it is you who will know regret. I swear on the proud name of the Rio family that you will." Ada looked back to the others and maintained control, "Please, everyone! Calm yourselves! My father seems to have tired his voice tonight, so I will also declare acceptance of my given claim as the heir to the Rio family. It is a great honor and I will strive to better myself and those around me as one would only expect of this prestigious opportunity." Ada picked up two glasses from the table and began to walk past Shojiro. He began to reach for her in order to intercept, but Hirika intercepted and noted a seething hatred now turned against her. "You... dare...?!" Ada's inspired bravery reached her and she wouldn't waver so that Ada could come to stand before the beautiful statue she created so seemingly effortlessly. Shojiro felt that he had lost almost everything in these passing moments, and was suddenly too weak to even resist Ada's coup.
Ada extended a hand toward Kenshin, gesturing for him to join her afore their immortalized image. Once they stood together she offered him a glass then raised a toast, "We wish to thank everyone for joining us tonight to witness this historic union of families which will surely help sculpt the Empire further toward prosperity!" Kenshin did not have to drink of the wine if he did not wish to, for simply raising his glass would suffice to guarantee everyone else's participation out of mere social obligation. Ada would only take a sip of the wine before waving for a servant to come and collect their glasses. "May you all return to your homes safely tonight. This concludes the Rio family's event." This was her final address to the present nobility before she would turn to Kenshin and smile. "Thank you, Kenshin, for showing me true courage and strength of will that I see I had yet to master before tonight. You're truly everything I could have hoped for in a husband, and I swear to endeavor to making you happy for the rest of our lives." She offered him another curtsy, but he would notice that this one was not nearly as low as when they first met again tonight. Upon rising again he might notice that her smile had shifted somewhat when she looked past the statue at her half-collapsed adoptive father. The pride in her expression was somewhat lost to a small show of self-satisfaction. Ada whispered to him, only now answering his previous question, "It is my turn to handle things. I promise that those deserving will know justice- be it those who have wronged or that have been wronged. Have faith in me, as I do in you, my beloved." Ada looked back to him after these words as if directing them as much to reassure Kenshin as to promise Shojiro that he and his ilk would definitely feel her righteous fury. She would try to return to a more celebratory mindset by asking, "How would you like to spend the rest of this eve?" She was rather certain that he would like more time for just the two of them to enjoy, and so would she. Ada left it to his discretion as a gentlemen to continue to impress her with his keen initiative.

▱▰▱He felt Ada tightly squeeze his hand which sent a chill through him after he showed her his memories. The gentle and repetitive beat of her heart shook his hand even more. He returned her tight grip with equal force and his chest seized up. Her face was difficult to read even for him which only led to more anxiety about her response. Would she express the same feelings? Would she reluctantly reject him? In any case, he knew that the virtuous woman would be honest with him. It was not until she responded that he finally felt the relief of his confession wash over him. Kenshin never expected that he would tell her all of this, much less have his feelings reciprocated. His eyes filled with sincere affection as he slowly began to lead in closer to her face but the clink of the spoon against her father's cup stopped him before their noses could touch. The Hyuga clansman sat back again suddenly. Kenshin felt his throat tighten when Ada reassured him of her feelings. He released her hand and sat at the table as she approached her family's table. He sat sundered by the might of her love with his head in a thick fog. All of the attendees that remained on the dance floor went to their seats, including Yui and Kenshin's guards, who took their seats at the nearby tables in the Hyuga clan's section. Yui's face was beaming with excitement after watching the genjutsu of Kenshin and Ada's dinner and now it was time for the big announcement that her prince seemed assured for at this point.
Kenshin sat up straighter from his slight slouch the moment Ada burned the cards her attendant gave her. He leaned forward and rested his chin in his hand with a gaze of intense interest. Her father's words seemed normal without his ability to ascertain the full context. The experienced detective pondered what transpired earlier. X said her family was safe but that there were casualties. If this family is here then he must've been talking about the Kyuri's." Kenshin was frustrated by his limited supply of information regarding what was causing so much anxiety and tension for Ada at the gala that clearly went beyond her usual suitor-based woes. He was startled yet again by Shojiro Rio's coughing and suffocation. Is she...choking him? Kenshin activated his byakugan temporarily to analyze the Rio clan head's body before confirming that an enchantment was placed on him using Ada's chakra. What the Hell? His bulging ocular veins subsided as Yui placed her hand over her mouth for what seemed like the fifteenth time that night. Oh my goodness, someone help the man! Yui assumed that he was choking on an hors d'oeuvre or his drink. However, the attendant's hand was lowered and giddily placed on Kenshin's arm from the next table over when she announced him as her choice of suitor. Kenshin stared in confused awe at the treatise that followed.
When the statue formed of the dancing couple as a gemstone-constituted representation of their love Kenshin felt somewhat embarrassed. However, Yui began excitedly jumping in her seat and squealing before the Hyuga guards seated in the tables around them loosed a much more deep and masculine expression of victory that their prince "won" so to speak. "YEAH!" Kenshin felt Yui's hand squeeze his bicep tighter after the Hyugas' call of victory. The Hyuga tables cheered in victory and celebrated with strong drinks while the other families stirred and murmured with anxiety. "HYUGA! HYUGA! HYUGA!" The guards deeply chanted their clan's name three times and clapped after each chant but calmed when Ada took command of the room again. Yui stared at the newly-minted heiress in admiration and awe as she spoke with such dignity and poise. When Ada gestured for him to join her, Kenshin's eyes widened as Yui gently but firmly pushed him out of his seat. "Go up there!" Yui's imperative statement shook Kenshin out of his daze as he regained his footing and stepped with purpose toward his fiancee. They stood before the statue together as Kenshin felt uncomfortable in the spotlight but comforted by Ada's command of the moment. He returned her curtsy with a deep bow as his heart pulsed from her very public and flattering appreciation of him. Still, the serious man's face remained quite flustered. In the background, Yui wiped away happy tears in the wake of Ada's thanking him for showing her courage. This woman has the charm he surely needs just as he has what she needs. Yui made a sentimental internal note as her own heart went aflutter for her future lord. She was a massive fan of romance novels and films and felt that she was watching a happily ever after before her eyes.
Yui stood from her seat and commanded all of the guards to carry the imperial lightning Hyuga sigils. They immediately did so with gusto and marched around Kenshin and Ada chanting once again. "Hyuga! Hyuga! Hyuga! Hyuga! Hyuga!" When Ada whispered in his ear, Kenshin felt his face go hot as his flustered expression turned to desire. "Justice?" It was at that moment that Kenshin was finally able to intuitively piece together that the Rio were involved in whatever was happening to her biological family. After Ada called him her beloved after her commitment to upholding righteousness he felt his composure slip away beyond his control. Kenshin leaned in again and exhaled the passionate heat that built up in his core. "I want you." It was clear that the restraints Kenshin tightly bound his heart with were coming loose even for a moment. Kenshin's heart skipped a beat as he visibly forced himself back into his restraints. "Sorry." Kenshin expressed regret as he looked around and locked his arm in hers after she asked him how he wanted to spend the rest of the evening. This is inappropriate. I need to get a grip. The sannin chastised himself as the gentleman led her by the arm outside of the gala ahead of everyone else. "I have a particular place in mind." It was barely past eight o'clock so the night was still young. It was a warm summer night with air that was perfectly electric and invigorating. Yui gathered the guards and prepared them all to depart after Kenshin and Ada. Kenshin opened the door to the carriage for Ada before climbing in after her. Once the door was shut the driver, who was also a Hyuga guard, whipped the horse into movement. "We're going to the zen garden I meditate in regularly." Kenshin's description was simple. It was a quiet and beautiful place that he had already made arrangements for in the event that he was chosen by the nobility's bizarre engagement ritual with the cards. Kenshin felt his desires stir within him again as he tightly grabbed her hand as if reclaiming their interrupted moment of intimacy from earlier. "What just happened?" The quiet man asked as he looked into her sapphire eyes. The adrenaline of the moment was sure to wear off as distance was placed between them and the gala by the horse-drawn carriage.

__ The other noble families offered their (often forlorn) thanks and congratulations to the engaged couple before departing. The Kanda family wasted no such effort, and Ada just smiled as they left only to meet their fate. They, along with most other conspirators to Shojiro's political machine, had already been reported directly to Emperor Shiro by X. They would have imperial agents and enforcers awaiting them at their estates and be apprehended for trial. Ada had been sure to include all of the dirty laundry she had been keeping track of for many years of her life. Truly, this was the ultimate victory she could ask for in tonight's course of events.
Ada was admittedly quite surprised by the Hyuuga's enthusiastic victory chanting and parading, but she saw as little problem with it as Kenshin. It was their victory tonight, as well as her own, and they had all earned a celebratory cheer. Her attention was brought back to her fiancee amidst the conclusion of the party. When he reacted to her promise that justice would be duly served he leaned in toward her with such a lustful gaze and she nearly lost herself in his eyes. A sultry sigh escaped her lips, but he stopped himself before he could act out. Ada would have felt bad if he wasn't right to do so, but she realized only after how little of a defense she put up against his advance. "There will soon be a day for that, darling." She said as she was led to the Hyuuga carriage. "The gardens sound wonderful, thank you." Hearing their destination, she nodded to him and settled into her seat after adjusting her dress for the ride. Ada watched the gala's venue grow distant as time went by. Again surprised, she looked down at her hand being held then forced a smile at his simple, yet very layered question. "You'll sour the mood, Kenshin." Despite her opposition to the topic, she in turn also held his strong hand and answered, "However... you should and will know all the same." Ada sighed again, this time with a sort of relief that one could only express when they had truly felt accomplished or saved from a tragic situation. "I sought Emperor Shiro's aid as his royal guard to make preparations for the Rio family's overdue retribution. Admittedly, I was somewhat spiteful about it at first, but meeting you again and working with the APD for the last several years has helped me clear my thoughts. I could approach the situation with clarity and confidence." There was another moment of pause for her to again so she could clarify better. "His highness agreed to support my private investigation and agreed to help me with the final act only if I could present irrefutable evidence from an advantageous position." She smiled and shook her head after quoting the emperor, "In short, he set a very high bar for me to accomplish on my own, but I am thankful that I had no choice but to be so patient and thorough." Ada honestly didn't want to sing the praises of another man right now but it had been these lofty shows of support that earned Shiro her trust and loyalty.
Ada knew that she could at least reiterate a very important point to her fiancee, "Fate... if you might call it that, has been very generous to us. Your claim as the Hyuuga heir could not have been more fortunate. If not for you, I would have- no, I simply would not have been able to accomplish what I did tonight. If not for you, I would not know this relief or feel truly hopeful for the future for the first time in my whole life. Truly, you are my hero and I love you even more dearly for everything you have done." Up until that last word was spoken, Ada had managed to keep a hold of the adrenaline that gave her some of her courage as it had been displayed earlier. Now, at peace in the safety of the one person she could finally love with all of her heart, Ada let her feelings be more free. "Your feelings for me helped me see what I can and want to do next. I will strive to make our lives and those of our families as prosperous as possible." It was difficult to get up to speed with the level of affection she knew Kenshin had for her, but she felt it to be an utmost priority to explore these new feelings that she'd not felt with such depth ever before. He made her feel secure, gave her inspiration to continue to better herself, and his presence alone let her know that she could trust in something now beyond words. Ada's gaze moved toward the carriage's window, noting that the gardens could not be far now. She had every intention to tell him whatever he wanted to know about her. This marriage meant to her that there was no need for secrets between each other, and they'd both been quite forthright with one another so far.

His following brief bout of desire was fueled by Ada's meeting of his lustful gaze. After his apology and her stating that there would be an appropriate time for that, he nodded again. "When you have my vows I'll give you all of me, I swear." Kenshin was assured in this but would leave the point there as he recollected himself. When they got into the carriage and she thoroughly answered his question he nodded quietly again. He squeezed her hand tightly while rubbing his forehead with his opposite hand. "Sounds like they underestimated you, a critical error." This was just a short bit of commentary as he listened further to Ada's explanation. It was clear by Kenshin's facial expression that he was appalled by the Rio and all the effort that Ada had to go through to just be left alone and even bring them to the emperor's justice. His heart was softened further by her outpouring of tender love and gratitude. "I'm honored by your thanks, but don't forget your own leadership in this. I'm just a police captain, that's all I know how to do. Without you, I'm not confident that I would've been able to restrain my pride enough to accept Hajime's offer. I was insulted by his turning me away and then bringing me back into the fold when it suited him. I still generally hate the gaudy veneer of nobility that conceals the rot underneath." Kenshin breathed in again before calming the rage boiling up in his gut. With a renewed focus, his dormant byakugan stared into Ada's sapphire eyes. His eyes sharpened on hers and filled with determination before he broke the temporary silence. "Our emperor's land has filled with schemers and traitors who hide behind their inherited wealth and power. But the rightful lord and lady Hyuga are coming for them all. We will not stop until we've scoured this empire clean of abomination. We will show them that justice burns." The Hyuga heir spoke to the new Rio clan head with an intense vigor. "I'm enraged at what some of the Rio have done to you. I have an abundance of confidence in you, but I don't want you facing something like this without me ever again." He would not usurp her role in this but he knew that he also needed to fully establish their partnership. "My confidence in you never wavered but I was worried about your wellbeing. I'm just...protective." Kenshin felt more confident that she would understand. The uncertainty of a budding romance was beginning to be supplanted by a quiet yet strong sense of trust. "I told Hajime that you're the only woman I'd pursue for marriage and he knew he didn't have much say in stopping me. I didn't want a political marriage with some spoiled highborn woman. I love you because you're strong and don't need saving. The world is starting to see the remarkable Ada I've always known." With a soft nod, he opened the door on his side and kept his hand extended to help give her stability to get her dress adjusted and safely step out. "We can put this behind us for the rest of the night." He reassured his fiancee with a sense of relief in his voice that this was now their time. It was constructed more like a rug in any case so he set it flat on the ground and would sit closely with her. The cape was comfortably set on the clean ground of the well-kempt zen garden. He sat beside Ada with his right arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her close to him with the ability to easily rest her head on his shoulder. "I've easily been here to meditate hundreds of times but now it feels like I'm looking at it for the first time." He felt renewed by Ada's more intimate presence in his once extremely rigid life. __ Ada was a little embarrassed to have her appreciation turned back upon her. In a small way, she almost felt regretful in the way Kenshin described the course of events. 'I didn't... force him, right? No, of course not. He showed me his feelings. Don't be silly.' Ada chastised herself for her reemerging doubts and heard the rest of what her fiancee would say in following. She knew he knew the topic of justice more thoroughly than any other, but he wasn't beyond making a mistake any more than anyone else. His compliment of her having saved herself caused her to blush, remembering again what she had just done to claim her position as the Rio family's head. Quietly, this time, she did swear to stay by his side and support him in their endeavors. She nodded acceptingly to his terms of not enduring such a trial alone ever again, and she hoped such a thing would never be necessary. All the same, it was completely reassuring that he was there to aid her as well. Her flushed features only became more apparent at hearing of what Kenshin had said to the great Hajime Hyuuga about her. 'Oh wonderful. I wasn't planning to, but now I certainly have to best present myself to the Hyuuga.' His last compliment before the carriage slowed to a halt helped mitigate most of her seeding worries.
Ada gladly nodded again and replied, "Agreed." She accepted his assistance to exit the carriage, minding her dress as she departed. A small tear could be heard of it catching on a small ornately designed grip on the carriage's step. Glancing back Ada waved her free hand at it then let the hand fall back to her side. The torn piece of garment disintegrated into a very thin cloud of metal grains which rejoined with the rest as they headed into the garden. Ada's eyes wandered the garden, certain that she'd not had the time to visit here before. She refocused upon him as he chose to use his rather illustrious white cape as a blanket over the grass for them to sit upon. Ada was reluctant to use such an important garment in that way so before they sat she commented, "If you do not mind, Kenshin..." She caught the cape over a magnetic field and donned it over her own shoulders like a jacket, "I do not mind sitting on the grass, but I am a tad cold." Ada hoped he wouldn't mind her saving himself the explanation to his attendant or grandfather about the cape's condition, or that she took the liberty of wearing it. All the same, she sat closely with the man and welcomed his embrace as she rested her head on the shoulder he offered. "This is something I could certainly get used to..." Ada sighed as she watched their scenic moonlit surroundings together. She curiously turned her sapphire gaze up to him when he spoke of traditions then heard his supposedly unorthodox request. Ada smiled, mostly because of the way he made his suggestion and as she remembered the dress that Hirika had prepared for the wedding. Her adopted mother had stood up for her back then, and she wouldn't forget that by choosing a different gown out of spite. It was a lovely dress, and she was confident that she could find an appropriate hair piece and make up for it. "I understand, darling. Although, I cannot promise that I will wear what I am tonight for that special day. I can promise that I'll do my best to compromise." Her smile seemed to glow especially as it was upturned to the moonlight, meeting his pale gaze with such endearment. Ada hoped that this would be agreeable to him, or she'd have to have a new dress designed and prepared. Such was only an especially minor inconvenience in the long scheme of things so she would gladly respect his wishes if he persisted.

He joked in a flat tone all the while acknowledging that she most likely wanted to avoid sullying the heirloom on the grass. He knew that Ada was more sentimental of such items than him and she was likely in the right in this instance. He would sit down next to her and had to adjust his own ornate white clothing with golden trim and decorated lightning Hyuga symbols. As they sat together he felt his blood pump through him at a higher pace inspired by his infatuation. Her statement of enjoyment that flowed through a contented sigh caused his cheeks to heat up again. This was further compounded by the moonlight illumination of the teeth and lips of her smile and outlines of her face. Ada would probably find his eyes' smitten fixation on her face obvious. Crackling and thunderous dark blue lightning can be applied to the katana's edge at any rank and the same lightning can form a dragon head formed from electricity over the body of the user for 10 posts. This allows all spiritual techniques the sword comes into contact with to be slashed through and even cut in half at the same rank despite the complex nature of the technique. For half of the original cost to activate the technique a same-rank spiritual electrical energy slash can be sent out from the slash of the blade. __ Ada just smile thankfully and stayed close to her man. His awkward quips were something of a sort of humor for him, but she had no doubt it wasn't intentional. She watched as his eyes, noting his focus as well as his lingering hesitation. He wasn't to blame for it, but she was feeling a sense of anticipation well up in her while he seemed to weigh his next few choices. "I'll keep that... in... mind..." Ada's breath was stunted as she answered and he leaned in to kiss her. The preceding nudging of noses before an unsatisfactory peck only instilled a deeper yearning. She knew restraint, of course, but not on Kenshin's level. "You hold back too much..." She mumbled before adjusting her posture to turn more his way as they sat together. Her left hand moved up along his chest, then her fingers brushed against the side of his neck before gently pulling him down toward her again. He hadn't departed far anyway, so this was a far simpler maneuver than need description. Simultaneously with the motion of her left hand, Ada raised her lips up to rest against his. She'd test his nature with her gift of only a few seconds of a passion. Afterward she'd mostly sit back down again, still keeping her face close and looking up at him. Her left hand fell back to his shoulder then down his chest and finally into her lap. While she was not the most experienced in these matters, it was clear to her already that she would have to teach him a few basics. "That's better." She gave him and amorous smile, then bit the tip of her bottom lip get a second taste in a smaller dose. He was welcome to try again as far as she was concerned, but the fluttering of her heart made it clear that she had to be careful of herself before anything went farther than they were supposed to go for the merely betrothed pair.

▱▰▱Kenshin felt heat roll through his skin as Ada passed her hand over his chest before resting it on his neck. It was clear from Kenshin's face that he was meditating and working up the resolve to finally free himself from years of self-imposed restraints. The strain was apparent through his pale hues before he shut them and was pulled down into Ada's passion. He felt his mind become incandescent from Ada giving him permission to express his affection. As she kissed him he pressed his lips tighter and kept his head tilted to avoid nose-bumping. The kiss she initiated was markedly more satisfying as Kenshin did his best to keep pace with her. When the kiss concluded and she bit her lip he felt a whirlpool of desire envelop his heart. Halfway through her statement that the second kiss was better Kenshin quickly leaned his tilted head down again. He wrapped both of his arms around her and gently lowered them both from a seated posture to a laying down position on the soft grass. Their faces were in perfect parallel as he intimately embraced her with both arms under her mid-back against the ground. This third kiss was deeper and lasted twice as long as the second. Kenshin was determined to finally express his profoundly deep affections for her and battled through his former hesitation. The passion escalated before Kenshin finally separated his mouth from hers and caught his breath. Their faces remained inches apart as Kenshin felt the corners of his mouth softly upturn in a closed-mouth but no less genuine and sweet smile. Happiness radiated from his eyes as he looked at her before regaining his composure and rolling to the side. He laid on his back to Ada's right but pulled her in to cuddle beside him as he looked back up at the moon and the stars. "All of me will be yours soon enough." Kenshin reassured her while referencing his earlier remark but felt immensely relieved by the satisfying passion of their kissing. It was essential to Kenshin that he avoided getting too carried away for fear of any possible negative impact on their blooming relationship. Kenshin continued his smile for a few seconds up at the moon as he held one of Ada's hands in his own over his chest while allowing his other arm to keep her pulled in close. Once he recovered from the intoxicating romantic ecstasy he wiped her lipstick from his own lips with his thumb returned to a more serious but still softer than usual facial expression. Contentment still overwhelmed him as he moved to lay on his side toward Ada to focus on her for his next words after an appropriately long period of contented silence. "Given Hajime's health, our courtship is not likely to be a long one and there's much work to be done at the APD still. Can I start bringing you dinner after work? I'll do everything in my power to spend time with you." Kenshin gave this some thought earlier when he considered what he would do if Ada accepted his marriage proposal. The ever-dutiful man wanted to be of service to her while also allowing them to continue building their relationship. "My love." The original form of the sword is a steel and dark blue katana with a bronze crossguard and dragonhead handle. It also has a rapier form that was refined from Purity and is entirely constructed from steel with a dark blue handle and basket hilt. The katana and rapier forms are the same size and constructed of the same materials. Getsuruito was considered a legendary artifact by the people of Seizan as it was wielded by an ancient general. When the rusted blade was awarded by the locals to Kenshin Kosei he discovered that it had the unique ability to merge with and empower one other weapon. When the katana was reworked to its fullest potential it had the abilities of his own weapon in addition to incredible lightning abilities. ▰ Ability Summary: Righteous Sword of the Sentinel [ Senchineru no Seigi no Ken ] | Rank E | Bloodline | Spiritual All forms of Hyuuga techniques including the gentle fist can be used through the sword for the 10 posts that this technique is active. This means that strikes involving the blade cause physical damage including stab wounds as well as seal tenketsu points and any other effects of the technique used through the sword. An additional 5 chakra can be applied to the blade to prevent it from causing physical damage from thrusting but instead seal tenketsu points and inflict pain similar to a stab wound in the area struck but slashing attacks can still cause damage. Half the resource cost of techniques from the rapier style of Sen Gekiretsu Nagareboshi applied allows the technique to carry the tenketsu sealing effects of a same-rank palm strike such as a B-Rank carrying 64 Palms effects. Getsuruito must be in its rapier form to use this ability and 5 chakra can be spent upon activation of this technique to transform it as such. The Righteous Sword of the Sentinel technique has a 10 post duration before necessitating re-activation and costs an E-Rank amount of chakra. The initial activation of this technique consumes an action but all subsidiary abilities of the technique do not.
Smiting Blade of the Night Watch [ Naitō Otchi no Sumittinguburēdo ] | Rank X | Bukijutsu [ Lightning ] | Spiritual When this technique is activated it crackles violently with night blue lightning for the entire duration. The electricity from the blade also forms bolts of lightning over the body of the user and appears to supercharge them. Whenever the blade is swung or thrust over the duration the user can fire a concentrated blast of ten bolts of lightning to accompany the strike equal to the rank applied but for only half the cost to initiate the technique. Hatake, Raiu, and Sage enhanced lightning can pass through the blade and apply to these lightning bolts. The bolts cause a thunderously deafening sonic boom and can inflict tier 2 burns upon direct contact with the lightning. Additionally, these lightning bolts can be freely applied to all complex bukijutsu for no action cost to smite enemies. The only action cost is when the technique is activated and all subsidiary abilities of the technique do not consume actions and only chakra. This ability can be used in both forms of Getsuruito.
Draconic Sabre of Moon Sundering [ Getsu Sandaringu no Dorakonikku Seibā ] | Rank X | Bukijutsu [ Lightning ] | Complex This is the original ability of the ancient Getsuruito blade and thus requires the original katana form. 5 chakra can be spent to transform the blade to its original form upon activation of this technique. Crackling and thunderous dark blue lightning can be applied to the katana's edge at any rank and the same lightning can form a dragon head formed from electricity over the body of the user for 10 posts. This allows all spiritual techniques the sword comes into contact with to be slashed through and even cut in half at the same rank despite the complex nature of the technique. For half of the original cost to activate the technique a same-rank spiritual electrical energy slash can be sent out from the slash of the blade. This same cost can be applied to any complex bukijutsu to achieve the same effect. The original 10 post activation of this ability consumes an action but all subsidiary abilities do not.
