It had been five long years since she’d set out from Oba in search of her mother. What with the dretch threat happening she’d worried that something would happen to her pureblood mother. After all it was rumored that the horrible creatures were taking Alks left and right. Masika had hoped to find her mother before something bad happened but that hadn’t been the case. Oh it was nothing terrible like getting snatched away by the dretch or being injured to the point of possible death.. It had been that Masika herself had gotten lost in the jungle.
Of all places! She’d met some interesting people to be sure, but it had taken her off her projected path. Masika had gotten distracted by certain things. Mostly her escape from all things creepy and crawly. A hard thing to do in the jungle, she found out.
Thankfully a reunion with her mother had happened, after playing a merry game of “Just missed her” for over a year. When Masika had gone to the shore to ask the Alk’s there if her mother was on the Island of Chibale they had given her the run around. Not wanting to answer her directly. Which had led her to the village of Andile, where hybrids were. She figured her mother might visit some friends there or something. When that had failed she’d run into someone else like her and went off track with curiosity. That had caused her to miss her mother by a scant few miles and so on and so on.
She found her mother, the elusive V’demhe, in Nueud of all places. Whole and hale. Masika should have known better. Her mother was a fierce warrior Amazon of the Alkidike tribe. One of the best. Why she thought her worry would do any good she didn’t know. But it had been because of that worry that she had finally left Oba. Unfortunately it also meant that she had left her beloved shop behind. By now she was sure that her shop was permanently closed to all business. There was no way the building owner would save her place if there was no more coin coming in. Masika had run out of her reserves a long time ago and with no job currently she couldn’t continue to send any back.
It was a sad truth but one she had faced a while ago. She could always restart. And with the help of her mother she had a feeling that goal would be met sooner rather than later. Of course now she just needed to figure out where she was going to put her new shope. Masika had always thought she’d just go back to Oba, it was a place she knew and that she was used to. Matori wasn’t as bustling so she hadn’t set up there. Of course lately the jungle had grown on her. So she supposed she should consider some locations within Jauhar borders.
With a sigh she looked around at the market as she went along on her walk. Her mother was waiting for her, they were on their way to visit some friend of hers. It had the promise to be an interesting trip. It also meant that she would be spending more time in the jungle and be extension.. It’s critters. As she walked by she took note of a few odd looking people. Not that she didn’t turn a few heads herself but that these people were just not the normal type she was used to seeing.
Being a hybrid herself she had always been open to the idea of others. Even celebrated when she saw new ones. Especially if they were of the same mix she was. Now she was seeing colors and shapes she was not used to! The yaeli were an interesting bunch. Their ears and eyes especially. Then there was the Belreans. They had some vibrant colorings. Mostly in the hair. The orange was something she wasn so unused to. But apart from the colors she’d heard about the shape of their eyes. Or pupils to be more correct. Like the Matorian with the squid like pupil, theirs differed from the typical Earthling pupil.
Then there was the rumors she’d heard of another people being discovered. With open borders and explorations going out all the time it didn’t surprise her. The world was large and due to that alone there had to be more surprises waiting to be discovered. It brought a smile to her face just thinking about it. What else would they find in the vast world? Who else was waiting to join the rest of Tendaji? Time would tell.
