Theriar stretched in the early dawn light. It was time to go check the lines that he had left overnight. The mist was in and he must admit that the figure that he nearly bumped into startled a squeak out of the big man.
"My goodness I thought you were here to take me to the deep." He put a hand over his hear then relaxed. It was just a girl...a familiar girl.
"Cahira? What are you doing here?"

It was another early morning for the young hybrid girl. Cahira darted down the stairs of her family's manor before heading towards the kitchen. It was early enough for her Aunty to have dropped of fresh bread from the local baker and Cahira gladly grabbed a couple of pieces to stick in her satchel. It smelled so good! Beaming, Cahira sneaked a bite of fruit as well before heading out of the kitchens and outside. Surely that should be enough for the day. She thought as she left and headed towards the beaches.
The stone manor was along the shoreline of Matori, the grayish-blue building almost blending in with the rocky cliffs looming behind it. It had taken a lot of work and resources to build but her mother's had inherited her family's noble name and coin so they had plenty to use. It was pretty discreet in location, not being directly in any of the settlements but close enough to visit within a couple hours walk if not an even shorter ride. Cahira had missed the manor dearly while spending the last year on and off in the capital of Oba. Her mother ran a dance school so she often went there on trips with her mother. It was a good way to visit her oldest sister who was staying in Oba also.
It was in Oba that Cahira had picked up her prized possession. Just the thought made the girl's hand roam down towards the elegant sword hanging from her hip. It was beautiful and she loved it. She loved it so much that she had taken to early morning runs along the beach so that she could work on building up strength and train with her Aunty Aira. Yet today's run did not go quite as Cahira anticipated. Instead when she was almost finished with her route she found herself running into a figure obscured by the ocean's morning mist. Heart racing, Cahira made to pull her sword before a familiar voice stopped her movements, "Th-Theriar?!" She gasped, her hand dropping from her sword so that she could instead raise a hand to cover the laughter which escaped from her lips, "Oh! I'm so sorry! I almost thought you were the one about to take me instead!" All of those stories about the Dretch and then stumbling into someone so tall in the morning mist had definitely startled her!
"I live further up the way and was taking a morning run." She finally managed after taking a few more breaths, "What are you doing here? Also, it's been a while! Should I be expecting more snow now that I've seen you again?" Cahira couldn't help teasing, a light flush decorating her cheeks both from running and from the memory of the enjoyable day at the snowy beach.

"Wha... you live here too?!" How had he not noticed her before? What strange trick of fate was this? Cahira had been the first person to succeed in bringing him out of his sulk for a while. It was a monumental feat but she had managed it as a little girl, now look at her almost all grown up. It was nice to see a friend again. He didn't really have that many but he was hopeful that more would trickle in as the years progressed. "I thought you lived in Oba, but it still makes sense that you would have a home here too I..sorry Im making this awkward."

Cahira's cheeks flushed at his reaction, " Well not directly here but further up the shore, further into the cliffs. I've been running for a while already." To be fair her mother kinda had made certain to hide their manor from the view of most. That was why they were closer to the cliffs and not directly on the shore like some of the other little huts that she had seen outside of the bigger settlements. She was honestly surprised that she hadn't run into Theriar earlier. Perhaps it was because she often ran the other way more than in this direction? Maybe the morning mist really got me confused about which direction I was going. Shaking her head, Cahira found his apology breaking her from her thoughts. " Oh no worries! You really don't have to apologize." She replied with a grin, " You're right. I do live in Oba sometimes. We've been busy traveling back and forth these last couple of years especially. I just came back from Sulburi actually." Cahira shifted sheepishly, her sandals digging into the damp sand, " We also don't go to the fishing towns often that are around here because others bring supplies to us. My mother prefers that especially when we're busy traveling back and forth between Matori and Oba." She hadn't personally been to town as a result of that. Cahira paused before pointing at Theriar teasingly, " What about you? You're up awfully early even if you live here. I had morning training to do but are you just here to scare people in the mist?"

Theriar gestured to the boat waiting near the surf line, "I'm going to work, this is the best time to catch Yellow Crescent Fin, painful as waking up this early is." One kind of signed on for that when one became a fisherman, sometimes late nights too depending on the target species. "I get really good money for the bigger ones, so it is worth a little lost sleep." He paused not sure what to say from here, "I could put it off though if you wanted some breakfast or tea?"

" Ah." Cahira nodded as she glanced over towards the boat, " So this is what you do in the mornings all the time then?" She asked, impressed by his dedication. Though she supposed that if this was his life work it would only make sense that he would be so dedicated. The girl flushed lightly at the thought since she realized she honestly hadn't ever worked a day in her life, save for recently but even that was training of her own free will. Even Kyril is getting a trade now. Cahira's feet shifted in the sands sheepishly. She still had a lot of maturing to do so that she could catch up to everyone else. " I can understand that. So have you caught any today yet?" Cahira glanced towards Theriar with a small smile before his next question made her smile grow even more, " Some tea would be...." She started before thinking carefully about things. He came out here early to fish and work on his trade, not to waste time by treating her to some breakfast or tea! Cahira pursed her lips and placed her hands on each hip in defiance, " I mean that's totally okay! We can do it later today or another time when you aren't working." She nodded her head firmly in her determination to not be a hindrance, " Is there anything else that you need to do to catch this fish? Could I help maybe?" Oh! And then as an afterthought she gestured towards her satchel, " If you're hungry, I have some fresh bread in here to bide us over?" Cahira shifted through her belongings before unwrapping two pieces of bread, both deep brown in color and with little caramelized nuts decorating the tops, " Would this be okay?" She asked before offering a piece to Theriar.

"Yes but I take weekends off because there is more to life than fish." He smiled at her, "No I'm heading out to check the boat and wait for the fog to clear, its not safe even for me to go out if I cannot see where I am going." "You could come along and fish if you wanted, it would be great to have company again on the boat. It gets rather lonely out there." He stared at the buns, they looked mouthwatering, he was a fair to middling baker but these looked like royalty. He took a bite reverantly and it was just as good as he had thought. "MHmmm!" He smiled and crossed his eyes with joy. "Those are so very good! They are more then welcome on the boat but first, let me check the boat over then we can have tea while the fog rolls away, the moment its gone be prepared to be on the boat."

Cahira grinned teasingly at Theriar's comment about more to life than fish, " There is?" Her gaze flickered over towards the boat and she nodded, " That's true enough. I suppose the fog is pretty dangerous out in the water. I already have trouble with it during my morning runs and that's on the land..." Cahira had never been in a boat really before. Her parents always traveled by land towards the desert so they had never really needed to travel by water. It was fortunate that Oba and Matori were so close to each other, especially considering how often Cahira and her mother traveled that way. She wondered if her older siblings had ever rode on a ship before? I'll have to ask them next time we meet up. Koril especially! He went all over the place lately so surely he had a lot more chances at traveling in different ways! Cahira couldn't help the smile that spread across her lips, " Really? That would be so neat! I've never been on a boat before....do you think that'll be a problem?" She admitted thoughtfully as she chewed on her own piece of bread. It was still so fresh from the morning delivery and almost melted in her mouth. It definitely was her favorite type! A giggle escaped her at Theriar's reaction, " I'm glad you like them. I'll have to bring more next time we meet up." The faintest of flushes decorated her cheeks. Maybe she could even try and learn baking them again? Cahira wasn't the best at baking but maybe she could at least manage to perfect these if Theriar liked them so much, " Okay, sounds like a plan. So tea after we check out the boat first." She repeated with a firm nod, " This is pretty exciting! My first time out in the water." The young hybrid bounced eagerly on the heels of her feet before daring to take a few steps towards the boat, " We should hurry and check it out then so we have plenty of time for tea. I would hate to make you later after all."

He would gladly give the whole morning for her. She was his favorite company. "You may be here most of the day, you might want to let your family know so that they do not worry." "Come along," he grinneds and headed for the small ship that let him fish further than the shore. It was not perfect but it was his and it had sails, which definitely beat rowing. "I have been on boats enough that your inexperience shouldn't be a problem. Now the first thing is of course to check for leaks in the boat. Then we check the sails and ropes including the anchor chain. Now we just fill the water barrel and thats that. He walked her through each task until everything was complete. "And thats about it! Time for tea," he offered her his arm.

It was all so interesting. Cahira couldn't help gasping and awing as she listened to Theriar explaining things about the boat, " I suppose leaks would be a bad thing indeed." She replied with a laugh before running a hand along the wooden sides. Excitement thrummed through her body at the thought of actually going into the ocean today. Maybe her mother would be slightly upset that she had taken a risk without warning but Cahira was certain it would be fine. She was a good swimmer and confident in Theriar's ability as a fisherman after all. There was no doubt in her mind that he would take care of her if something happened while they were on the ocean. " Great!" Cahira linked her arm through Theriar's and pressed close to his side happily, " Lead the way sir." She teased lightly as she walked alongside of him, " If we're going to be out all morning on the boat I suppose we could even grab a slight bite to eat with the tea." She grinned, " At least that's my excuse if they have some sweet pastries at the tea shop. I just can't resist those."

Theriar couldn't explain why he got such a bloom of pride flower in his chest when she reached out and touched the side of the boat. He had done the same thing when it had been finished. It was his first boat and he had worked hard to get it. Now they would have company, something that hadn't happened for a very , very long time. He smiled, he knew wherever that first woman had gone that it was a beautiful place. She wouldn't have left him otherwise. They had never found her but she had never come home. He was happy to treat her to an extensive tea spread. He lived alone but he enjoyed his own cooking. He was on a tea kick again, it beat coffee usually for more relaxed days. "Well they are pumpkin loafs, not fancy pastries, but we can get some of those too for the boat!" Good food was life to him, he loved it. Especially starchy things, his job was hard so he always managed to work it off. "There is a strawberry whipped cream thing you should try if you haven't..they are to die for." It was so easy to talk to her. Something in him felt at peace, it had been a rough path but he now had a friend and life was so much brighter. And she had never tried to rob him like Thea had. He hoped she became a better theif or she was in big trouble. He couldn't see Cahira stealing ever, she seemed to have good morals with a bright outlook in life.

" That sounds great." Cahira nodded, " I love those as well...honestly I'm fond of a lot of bread and sweets." A light flush decorated her cheeks at the confession. Thankfully she worked out a lot to prepare for her life as a swordsman and ran errands constantly for her family so it balanced out. Her oldest sister often teased her that she would have to try and behave around others, especially when in the city but for now Cahira didn't mind. It just showed she had a healthy appetite! " Ooooh." Her gaze widened at the thought of the strawberry cream. " I suppose I'll definitely have to try that then since you recommended it." Her gaze surveyed the beach as they walked along. " At least the weather looks nice today." Rain would probably be horrible for a fishing adventure after all. What if a storm happened? Would that be too dangerous? Cahira mulled over her worries while they walked along. Surely everything would be okay, right?

"Honestly, I like sweet too, and food in general, its a good thing my job is very physical." He smiled, he ha no problem keeping fit, some days he had to eat extra or he would loose weight. "I think it will be a great day for fishing. The weather should hold from the way the sky is behaving. When you are out there all the time you begin to read the signs. It helps to keep you out of trouble. I was caught out in a medium storm once, almost lost the boat and it wasn't even full force. Learned my lesson right there I did!" He payed a lot more attention after that little instance. When they had finished their impromptu tea, he lead her back to the boat, he made sure she was aboard, then he checked a few things then untied the lines and pushed them out and hopped on the boat. "It will go faster once we are out of the harbor." It was a small harbor but tucked neatly behind rocks in a sheltered place. Sea air brushed their faces with the familiar scent of salt and fish. He kept a tidy boat and everytime he started out to sea he got this great feeling of hope for what was to come. Fishing was fun, it was in his blood. The mast creaked as wind caught sails and they scooted out of the harbor into the open ocean. "I don't think I will ever get tired of this!" He bustled around the boat, then handed Cahira her own fishing rod. "I always keep a spare."

" It's definitely exciting." Cahira replied back with a grin as she took the fishing rod from him. She had seen fishermen several times before and knew the gist of how to fish but this would be her first time actually doing so. The hybrid studied the fishing rod thoughtfully before readjusting for the rocking boat. The feeling was strange, a curling sensation rising in her stomach as she tried to get accustomed to the rockier movements. So this is what it's like to be on the ocean. It wasn't too bad just unusual and something she would hopefully get adjusted to. " Is there anything in particular that I should do with the fishing rod or do we just toss the line over into the ocean?" She asked Theriar as she dangled the fishing line playfully over the edge of the boat as if testing the waters.

"Just wait until we get back to land, it took me a while to adjust back to still ground when I first started as well." He smiled at how happy she was, fishing was such a good passtime, he hoped she caught something today, usually beginners were luckier. "Well it doesn't much matter what you do as long as the line is deep enough, for now we are trolling so you can sit passively, if we stopped we can try jigging which is also fun, but we would use a different bait for that." "Its so cool that you can spend all day on the water enjoying yourself and magically catch dinner by having fun. This is why I became a fisherman, the mornings are early sure but to me it just doesnt feel like work, and I enjoy teaching it to others."
