Prompt
The world has opened to new possibilities. Where once they thought they were alone, now they discovered creatures never before imagined.

How does your character react to the introduction of Kahikina to Tendaji? This prompt can be anything, a way to cope, a way to learn more, even the first time they meet the other race. The main focus is discover and evaluation of this new world

It had been some time now since the newcomers have arrived, the so called Earthlings. Moani was still mostly indifferent towards them. Curious yes, but mostly indifferent. They couldn’t come into the water and Kahikianians couldn’t go up top. It was a win win, no one should get hurt. They’d heard of a few scuffles happening through gossip, but that wasn’t really unexpected. Some seemed to think it was, but Maoni felt they gave more benefit to the Earthlings. Even here in Kahikina, not everyone got along. Thinking everyone would get along up there was just not very smart.
Moani still planned on becoming a treasure hunter. Something they had not yet told their parents since all those years since the arrival of the Earthlings. Soon though. They were going to be of age and they would be leaving. They’d spoken to some friends about it, the ones who were a little more open anyway, and they’d all said the same thing. They ought to go on that adventure, even if they were still young. Other, older Kahikians had voiced their want to explore the new lands and Moani planned to go with them. Too much time had already been wasted, her supplies were ready.

Much time had been spent preparing for such an adventure. Moani had even spent some time learning about plants and studying maps to learn areas. They’d even looked into legends and lores of both worlds to perhaps maybe find some hidden things that they could go and explore. They’d even begun making a journal with all of their notes and their own discoveries, even if they weren’t anything new. They were still young and learning, nothing could be left out or thought to be unimportant. It was all extra really but Moani didn’t care, this would make them knowledgeable of the world once they could leave and as such was too important not to do.

As Moani grew over the years, they also tried to keep as healthy as could be. Getting into physical activities was a must, as was learning the various foods that they could find out in the world. They’d even managed to get their mother to buy some food from the Earthlings so Moani could try it themself. It was all so interesting and not all bad really, they certainly had interesting flavors that Moani didn’t even think could ever exist. They could see the appeal somewhat of what living above was, not that they’d personally live there but they understood. They still preferred Kahi to their place above ground.

Their father also seemed to have found a new interest in some of the new technologies brought by the Earthlings. Their mother didn’t approve and after learning how Earthlings give birth, they’d vowed never to witness that themself. Moani had laughed at that, from the way it had been explained it didn’t seem like a pleasant experience. Moani was happy with their choice of becoming a treasure hunter instead of having to learn Earthling anatomy so they could visit the world above. Child birth seemed like such a gruesome experience, they didn’t know why they would have to procreate to begin with. Or even go through that multiple times.

That was probably the most fun Moani had. They enjoyed learning about all the differences between the Kahikians and the Earthlings, and boy were they numerous! Even among the Earthlings it seemed like there was many differences between each of the races and their cultures. Moani felt like the Kahikians had mainly the same culture, or at least it seemed like there were smaller differences. Moani had also learned about war and slavery and didn’t understand why anyone would do that. Especially considering the water people seemed to look a lot more like Kahikians than Earthlings.

Moani closed their journal and stored it under their bed. They didn’t like sharing these thoughts with the rest of the household and so hid most of her things from their family. Only the siblings they shared a room with were allowed inside and they didn’t touch their things.

Moani floated out of the room and joined the rest of the family who were playing a game. They wondered if the earthlings also did these kinds of things. They were looking forward to being able to meet some and visit Tendaji for a bit. They had wondered about Earthling children and what they might look like, how did they come out looking? Of course only the child of a midwife would even think about such things.
