Gael had found himself in a slight pickle. A good job offer had come his way but he was a single parent. It made things especially tough when he wanted to provide the best for his daughter. It also left him with very little in the way of choices. After thinking about it he came to the conclusion that he couldn't leave his little girl home alone, even if she was mature for her age.
"Brex.." He called to her from the main room of the house. "Brex. Come here for a sec. I've a question for ya." He hoped she'd heard him.

Brexxa was busy playing with her new dolls when she heard Gael call for her from the front room. At first she didnt was to get up. The dolls were new and deserved to be played with, but he called a second time followed by the reason he wanted her. Gael had a question.
She rolled over to her side and got up. Moving her dolls to sit propped up on her pillow she made sure they wouldn't fall over. With that done she left her room and made her way over to her new dad. "Yes? What is it? Did I do something?" She still worried about doing something bad even though the years spent with Gael told her it was never anything lile that.

"Do something? No." The man shook his head so as to reassure her then lifted his hand to motion her over. "I just have a serious question to ask you. I figured this decision will effect us all so I better ask." Gael smiled then, pleased to know he had at least someone to share his life with. Kids were a blessing. And while Brexxa might not have been his from the start she was certainly his now and that was more than enough in his book.
"I have a job offer but I'm not sure what to do about it. My smart girl should be able to help out, right?" He grinned.

Knowing she wasn't in trouble made her smile at him and moved closer. Brexxa didn't think she'd done anything to warrant being in trouble anyways but it never hurt to ask. "What is it?" The little girl was curious now. If her dad said it was a big decision she had to wonder what it was about. Would he have to be gone for a few days like before? Brexxa had hated it when Gael had gone out to sea and been away for over a week. When he'd returned home she'd told him she didn't like it and of course her new uncles had told him about how she'd cried herself to sleep.
"You're not leaving again are you?" A frown formed now as she thought about the idea of being alone again.

Noticing her frown he shook his head and reached out to tap her on the chin lightly. "Hey now, none of that." Gael once more offered his daughter a smile.
"I have the choice to go out on the sea again, yes. This time for longer. Likely a few months." He looked to the side as he did some mental calculations. It would definitely take a while for this trip. A lot longer than the mere week and a half he'd been gone before. Knowing his child had had a hard time with his absence before is what made him include her in his decision making now.

When her chin was tapped she looked up at him but the words that followed brought about a furrow in her brow. He was telling her that he was gonna be gone for months. Instantly Brexxa started to shake her head 'no' in response. The little girl was not okay with this.
"I don't want to spend months with the uncles. Do you have to go?" She of course understood that was how he made the money to take care of her but she did't like the time he spent away. She'd just gotten her new family and she wanted to keep them close.

"Hey hey.." Gael tried to speak up but she was already shaking her head in refusal. It made him chuckle a little as his hand moved to settle on the top of her head. "Brex.. You're not even giving me a chance to tell you the options, kiddo." While leaving her in the care of his brothers was an option it wasn't one he was overly fond of.
Lowering his head just a little he looked her in the eyes and offered a smile. "You gonna let me tell you the choices before you go deciding?"

She huffed a little but her head stopped shaking now that Gael had his hand on it and had fully messed up her hair. Brexxa gave him a pouty look but nodded as slowly as she could manage. It showed how reluctant she was to know her dad might be gone for a while.
"Alright fine.." Her attitude had taken on a sour tone but she didn't think he'd be mad at her for it in this instance. Mostly because it was completely understandable. She'd grown attached to her adopted dad. He was her safety net. When he was gone she felt like she was falling all over again and it wasn't a feeling she liked.

When she finally relented and said she'd listen he nodded his own head and grinned. "That'a girl." Gael shifted slightly so that he could wrap both arms around her and pull her to him for a hug, kissing the crown of her head as he did.
"Alright, so.. Here's what I came up with." He held one hand out in front of them both so that he could tick off the choices he found. His thumb stuck into the air as the rest of his fingers curled up into a fist. "Option one.. I go out to sea and you stay with your uncles." Of course he knew she wouldn't be too keen on that one. In fact he was sure it would be thrown out immediately. So before he continued he paused to look at her to see her reaction.

The hug and praise gained him a half hug, Brexxa only using one arm to show she was soothed. When he brought his hand out to show the choices available she nodded her head and waited. The first one he mentioned caused her to glare at his thumb like it had offended her. Again she shook her head 'no.' This was just not a choice she was willing to accept.
As Gael watched her she reached out and pushed his thumb back down. "Nope. Don't like that one." Brexxa was okay with being a spoiled brat over that one. "What are the other choices?" She chanced a glance up at him before looking back at his hand expectantly.

There it was. That instant refusal. Gael had expected it so it wasn't a surprise, nor did he take offense to it. Instead he chuckled again and nodded his head when she looked at him. "I figured."
His hand wiggled in the air to gain her attention before his pointer finger was raised next. "Second option is that I just don't go." Which he was fine with. He did have enough savings to miss out on this trip and he could always find small odds and ends work around to gain any extra they might need. "That means money might be a little tight at the end, so no shopping for new dolls." He looked at his daughter seriously.

Hearing the second choice made her frown again. Brexxa knew that if Gael didn't work then they would have little money. Her shoulders slumped a little. Surely those weren't the only two choices right? There had to be another?
She turned her head up to look at him, a worry in her brow. Her orange eyes showed the concern. Brex wasn't so much worried about not having the dolls but about everything else. What if her dad needed a new shield or something? There was a moment where she chewed on her lip and looked around the room, trying to put her thoughts together. Finally she brought her gaze back to Gael. "Is there another one?" She questioned.

He watched his little girl mull it over in her mind and he could tell she was struggling with the idea. Gael waited until she spoke up with her question about another option. Here he nodded then motioned with his head toward his hand. His middle finger popped up to join his index and he bent them both to make a set of bunny ears. "Option three... I take you with me on the ship." He'd cleared the idea with his captain and it was alright so he didn't have to worry about getting her hopes up for nothing.
He moved a little to the side so that he could look down at her and see her reaction as it happened.

The bunny ears made her smile. Brexxa had expressed a like for bunnies when she was younger. Then she heard the third option and it froze the smile in place on her face. One second. Then two. Had she heard him right? She could go with him? Onto the ocean? On a ship!?
Instantly her head spun around to stare at him, the smile turned into a full grin. "Really!?" She half shrieked the response. "Three! Three! I want to go!" Her excitement spilled over and soon she was bouncing up and down. "Can I really go with you!?" Her pitch remained high as she spoke, unable to bring it down with her elated mood.

At first when she didn't response he thought maybe she didn't like that option either. Gael gave a small look of concern then, but as she turned toward him with a grin he knew he'd been right. His little girl would rather go out to sea with him.
Of course then the shrieking started and he had to laugh and move his hand over to his ear. One finger wiggled in it to help buffer the sound but when Brex asked if she could really go he nodded his head. "Yeah. I already spoke to the captain and he said it was fine." Actually he'd been told that his daughter couldn't be any worse than his familiar. But he knew his captain well enough to know the old man had agreed. "We'll be gone for a few months so you'll need to pack some clothes."
