GENERAL

Familiars set themselves apart from the regular animals of Vykeli on two counts: They are sentient species who can communicate with noulicorns and they are capable of forming a soul bond with beings touched by magic.

Familiars are a single stage, single template breedable pet that can offer your noulicorn characters (as well as enemies and allies) extra perks! Each familiar species has its own perk for their bonds.

BONDING

A noulicorn can only bond to one familiar, and a familiar only to one noulicorn. Some familiars will befriend a noulicorn for months or even years before offering to formally bond with them. Bonding creates an empathic link between the two, allowing them to feel each other's emotions. Distance dampens this effect, but long periods outside without the other’s company is painful for a bonded pair.

While there is no special location for bonding ceremonies, in Homewood most choose to do them near Brightheart’s grove, so she can aid the bonded pair.

      THE CEREMONY

Both noulicorn and bond must bring a plant that has meaning to each of them, a representation of their dedication to one another. This plant is often unique to each bond and the choice is deeply personal.

The pair will find a place of solitude and build a small cairn of rock, into which they place their plant and light it on fire. The pair inhale the smoke together and meditate. If they are a good match, they will begin to sense each other’s feelings and be engulfed in a vision that tests the strength of their friendship.

When the vision clears, they will be bonded.

HOW TO BOND

    • A 500 word solo roleplay is required, describing the ceremony and/or test.
    • This solo may take place in any location (and thus, the appropriate forum).
    • When complete, fill out the form in Brightheart's Grove and a staff member will approve your bonding quest. Your familiar’s cert will then be updated with their bond’s name.
    • You may request to have your familiar added to your noulicorns cert as well.
    • A noulicorn can only bond ONE familiar, so choose wisely.

FAMILIAR PERKS

    • Each familiar species has a unique perk.

    • Familiar perks activate only when a familiar and their bond are present in a roleplay.

    • Familiar perks do stack with abilities and equipment.
