As the roots reached towards him Davvyd prepared himself for greatness. Nothing else would do. He took a deep breath and the vision enveloped him.
He was trotting along, in Homewood. He was surprised, briefly. Maybe Grandfather Tree was going to watch him woo some pretty ladies. See what he did best. It was a perfectly balmy day, sun shining down but not too hot, greenery vibrant and all around him. He cast his eyes around, looking for a sweet mare. Surely there must be on somewhere. And then his eyes fell upon the foal.
Okay, not a mare, but sure. He was just fine with kids. Charming even! "Hello little one! Are you lost? Do you need assistance?" Visions of swooping in and returning the foal to it's mother filled his head. A hero! He smiled, staring at the little thing, awaiting a response.
The foal bobbled on it's feet, and goggled at Davvyd. It coughed, and took a wracking breath in. Davvyd's brow raised. Okay, not as he'd planned. "Uh, are you okay? Do you need help or something?" His tail swished, as he considered. He took a step closer to the foal, and noticed an uncomfortable scent. ... Maybe this foal wasn't well. At all.
It took another laboured breath, and feel to its knees. Well, that certainly wasn't a good sign. "Uh, okay. So you need help." He wracked his brain, thinking of all the pretty mares he'd flirted with. Who could help ... The foal coughed wetly. An uncomfortable thought settled over Davvyd. What if this foal was contagious? Homewood sure didn't need some new disease sweeping through the population. Things were tenuous enough as it was.
The little foal made a pitiful mewling noise. And coughed again. "Okay little one. You stay here. I'm going to bring you someone who can help!" A very carefully selected someone. He considered the little thing, which now seemed to be shaking, even though the day was pleasantly balmy. Davvyd glanced around, and noticed some nearby fallen branches.
He trotted over, grabbing one with his teeth and hauling it back to the foal. He tried to carefully lay the branch over it, to provide it with some cover. He repeated this until he'd hauled the few fallen branches over, covering the foal as best he could. "Okay, maybe that'll help keep you warm." He watched the foal for a moment, hoping he'd done his best.
Davvyd has a friend in mind. A very pretty vivify user. Hopefully she could figure out what was wrong with this foal, and maybe even heal them. And if she couldn't do it Davvyd figured she'd know someone who could. "Okay, you stay safe little friend! I'm bringing help!" He bolted off in the direction of his lady friend's home. Time certainly was of the essence.
