After a successful stint out in the Ruins of Erli, Roamer and Ysalone had returned to the Homewood, where Ysalone had left behind friends and family. The doe had been eager to return for a short rest, and she was practically dancing when they arose on their first morning back. Granted, it didn't take much to make Ysalone giddy. There was much joy to be found in her world, no matter where she was. Particularly so when it involved all her favorite things and places. Right now, she was having the time of her life leading the buck through the Homewood and pointing out her usual haunts. "See, that tree there, that's where I'd meet some of my friends! And we'd go on down to the clearing to graze and chat," she said, bopping along to some happy beat as Roamer followed in a much more sedate manner. The buck nodded along patiently to Ysalone's high-octane babble, doing his best to tone down her building excitement. He didn't want her to explode from glee on his watch. They strolled along through the copse of trees until they reached the clearing, and then they paused and Roamer glanced over at Ysalone. "Where to now?"wc 203

It was time to say goodbye to the stream. Peaceful days of laying by the water and listening to its delicate whispers were behind him. Keirin had acknowledged this before he made the trek to Grandfather Tree for the first time, but there had at least been some small chance that the great white oak would decide it wasn't his time, yet, that he wasn't ready, and Keirin would be sent home with nothing to show for the journey. If that had been the case, he would have been free to return to his old ways...
It wasn't, though. And because it wasn't, it was time to say goodbye to the stream. Keirin needed to devote himself more fully to the practices of those who shared his gift. The time for lazing was past.
So he had come to the clearing just to take a quick drink and to pay his respects to the gently flowing water that had kept him company through most of his foalhood. Keirin took a calming breath and raised his head, standing a bit taller as he made to leave. As he looked up, he spotted another pair just at the edge of the clearing, and Keirin felt his face heat in abashment at being caught 'lazing' near to the water and taking up space where other nouls should be able to replenish themselves.
"O-oh... My apologies," Keirin stammered lightly, ears flicking down as he regarded the pair. "I was just headed out. Please excuse me. I'll get out of your way." With an incline of his head, he moved to step around them.

"Oh!" Ysalone blinked wide as they stumbled across another noulicorn. The doe's eyes gave the buck a quick once-over, trying to figure out if she recognized him at all. A lot of noulicorns lived here in the Homewood, but it wasn't uncommon to run into acquaintances by the water. Her mind drew a blank, though, so she simply smiled and shook her head. "Don't worry, you aren't in our way at all!"She was bright, even in the way she spoke, her words delivered to a quick, lilting rhythm that rose and fell with an almost melodious bent. The doe danced over to the new buck and scented the air around him in greeting. "Hello, what's your name? I'm Ysalone, and my friend here is Roamer," she said cheerfully, looking back at Roamer, who had stepped forward to be closer to both. "Hello," he said, adding his own nod, one that was much more reserved and careful than Ysalone's. By nature, he was not as sunny as she, and years wandering out beyond the Homewood had given him a healthy sense of wariness of all creatures that were not within his inner circle. This buck... Roamer, too, gave Keirin a quick once-over, and seemed to decide that the buck didn't post much of a threat. wc 203 + 215 = 418

Keirin tried not to appear too terribly disrespectful as he regarded the doe before him. He kept his head lowered and posture suitably upright while still remaining relaxed in the presence of others, but as his thick lashes lifted, she was the only thing that drew his focus. She was a very vibrant doe, not only in the almost golden dappling of her coat, but in the sweetly musical tone of her voice, as well. Keirin didn't make it a point to openly interact with nouls outside of his own family, so the pair before him certainly wasn't anyone he recognized.
His emerald gaze fluttered briefly to the less outgoing buck at her side before back to the doe who introduced herself as Ysalone. Keirin's tail gave a wary, slow sway over the grass beneath it. Welcoming in greeting, he hoped, if not still hesitant
"My name is Keirin," he answered in a quiet hum. "It is a pleasure to meet you both."
Though Ysalone seemed amicable enough, it was apparent that the other buck was not quite as enthused. Not cold by any stretch of the word that Keirin could imagine, but certainly far from pleased. Keirin wondered if his presence felt like an intrusion upon whatever the pair had come here to do. Alone. Perhaps they were only friends or colleagues who needed a drink from the stream, but Keirin wondered how such a mismatched pair came to be together, if not for... needs. He tilted his head quizzically.
"I did not intend to stay for long, so I would be happy to leave you two to yourselves, if that is what you'd prefer," he offered uncertainly. He had intended to look for something to make himself useful, after all...

Roamer opened his mouth to speak - possibly to tell Keirin that he need to stay if he felt uncomfortable - but a quick tut from Ysalone shut him up before any words could form. The doe bustled onward, shaking her head and being all... friendly. Roamer stifled a sigh. "Oh, no, not at all!" Ysalone said brightly, carefully shooting Roamer a look that suggested he'd best not contradict. "Come, stay, hang out with us! We've only just come back from a long trip out to the Ruins. Socializing is one part of Homewood life that I've missed."The cheerful little doe shooed Keirin back toward the water, and dipped her head for a quick drink. It was clean, refreshing, quite unlike some of the water they'd come across on their trip. Everything made her so happy to be back that she was starting to think distance really did make the heart grow fonder. "Do you live here, Keirin? I've lived here all my life, but only recently started traveling. Roamer's been teaching me about... well, how to survive, I guess. Outside of the Homewood," Ysalone added, having slaked her thirst for the time being. She danced away from the water and back to the speckled buck as Roamer took his turn to sip from the water. "Don't let her fool you, she's doing pretty well too," the buck chimed in.
