I'm still new and Im wondering about battlegrounds. What level do you need? Is there a reward? Is it PVP? Tips? Strategies? I dont want to go and be a reason for losing or a waste of space. Thanks in advance, any advice would help. *Im a lv 16 troll shaman Thorium brotherhood server (RP) ((if that matters))

At level 16, the only BG you can join is the WSG lvl 10-19. A lvl 16 aint to bad, and not shaman either. Though it's most about how well you play your class. And do try it exclaim If anyone calls you a waste of space or something, tell them to STFU! Most of those who calls others a noob and waste of space, are really crappy themselves. At least that is my experience. Short answer to your questions: Lvl needed? There are BG from lvl 10 to lvl 60 Reward? There are so many, I don't have time to say all. PVP? Yes, this is PVP! Tips? Go as a group. Kill Alliance. Get the flag. HAVE FUN exclaim Strategies? In WSG, get the flag and score it. And stop the apposing team (alliance) from doing so.

If you win - You get 3 marks on honor for the BG that you do. Turning in 3 gives you a certain amount of exp depending on what level range it is and what BG it is (I think only AV gives more exp..)
If you loose - You only get 1 mark of honor - Don't be used to that, your on the horde side gonk

You'll be useful at 16, don't worry. :3 There are lots of rewards for the different ranks you can get through PvP (not just battlegrounds). You can check them out & a general FAQ on the WoW site, since it's hard to explain the ranking system & there's a lot of rewards too.
First off, when you join a BG, say 'invite please', or something similar to get into the raid group. You should always have a raid group in BGs, to moniter everyone's status, & communicate easily.
Tips for WSG! Don't go in alone! When trying for the flag, take at least five people with you, the more the better. Someone in mail should be the flag carrier. Anyone that can heal or otherwise protect them should. You, being a shaman, should toss down slowing totems to help the carrier escape the base & hinder the Alliance. Try & stick close to the carrier in case they should die, you can try & grab the flag really quick. It's a good idea to have 2-3 people on defense at your flag, hopefully w/ some kind of slowing abilities. Look out for floating icons in the huts on the field & in nooks in the two bases - one is a red berserker looking face, which will give you extra attack power. Another is a green boot, which gives you a speed boost. Might be others, but those are the two I know of.
Also, always communicate! Very important - you don't have to be specific, just get the point across. Some terms you should know are 'tunnel', 'ramp', & 'GY' ('graveyard'). You'll hear these in reference to where the enemy is leaving w/ your flag, or which way is safest to go w/ the enemies flag when returning the flag. 'Midfield' is the point where the two different looking fields converge. Also be sure you know your directions well - If you're forgetful about them, like me, remember this: Never Eat Shredded Wheat. :3 Also, you can click on the mini-map to make a little glowing circle everyone on your side can see - use that to show the location of the flag if the Alliance has it. The flags leave colored 'trails' behind them, so look for them too.
Hope that helps a bit. :3

I've only played WSG, so I don't know so much about the others. But on Lightninghoof, Horde always wins at WSG. I don't know why, the Alliance are usually really twinked out, but we still usually thrash them 3-0. @_@
[edit] You can turn in three marks of honor for exp, bonus Honor, & reputation w/ that group (Warsong Outriders for WSG). You turn them in to the guy near the battlemaster who lets you join the que - think he's the Horde Warbringer? He'll have a gold exclaimation or a blue question mark over his head. You turn in the marks by getting & turning in the top quest - the other three are useless, as those items are no longer in the game. :3

Thanks for the tips everyone. I had a pretty successful run in WSG last night. We smoked the alliance although, Im not really sure I helped too much. xd A few totems, a few heals and I was in on a few group kills. No one warned me that cheese eating Alliance members might be outside WSG waiting for newbies to come out not realizing they were flagged for PVP. He ganked me before I even saw him and then I heard him laughing. sad

No clue on how the hell they get their PvP ranks... turning in their sad little Marks of Honor every three loses? xd Anyhow, each BG is a learning experience - you'll always learn something new. 3nodding

It differs from server to server, but on my main server, Alliance wins every single 40-49 AB and WSG.

Cap=capture, like when you "cap" or capture a flag in warsong gulch (scoring a point), or "cap" a node in Arathi Basin.
