Opening his eyes, Tsarine stretched to an overcast day. The different changes in nature he'd come to understand over a period of time. Some were filled with warmth while others hesitated with gray overcast. This bothered him not for he knew more rains were setting in eager to refill his waterfall. knocking over his round object he dumped the remaining water out of so it wouldn't go stale. Tsarine stretched his neck downward grabbing the "bucket" in his mouth. Nodding to himself he was certain this was the use for such a particular item. Simply put he deemed it for carrying things. After all the years of its lifetime, it was one of the more useful things within this dark foreboding world he called home. Closing his eyes he listened to the silence as a breeze blew through. Hope was fickle living within the darkness which still glimmered the sunlight even on the saddest days. Today he promised himself he'd go further back out the ruins and perhaps find the entrance that had lead him here years ago.

Where would he go he wondered, climbing over the rubble he had scrambled over the fraction of his size now.

For some reason, he carried his bucket with him filled with the remaining water running down to the moistened ground below. Around this strange phenomenon, life sprang upward in delicious greens he favored greatly. From the water brought life bringing him substance and nourishment. So, for his journey today he had nipped off his favorite greens and dropped them in the water he carried with him. If he were truly on a journey he'd need nourishment, drink, and hope. Taking a deep breath once more adorned with his bucket he set off back to the ruins that had captured him. Always listening he kept a vigil due to an ominous feeling within his being. It seemed subtle this strange darkness but it was quite clever seeking something for its own gain. Tsarine had never seen it fully knowing it lurked silently for him to leave his home. Slowing his walk he moved outward keeping a vigil of any movement. If this creature were to strike it would be clever and crafty.

Moving silently himself he kept moving till he reached a turning point. A silent tear trickled down his strong cheek in remembrance of his parents. He pondered they must have been crushed by the falling rubble as he foolishly listened to the music of the ruins. That secret he could never discover if it were only a rouse he thought his mind had sung. he only wished he could hear that music again even if it were a dream. His mind only sang now of his foolish nature a young buck could have mustered. Swallowing heavily he pushed onward constantly listening for danger if it should surface. Coming to a familiar crossroads he placed his bucket on the ground. Something had captured his attention placing the Buck on high alert. Something was coming toward him making his senses prickle in fear. Quickly, he looked around seeking sanctuary which seemed unfavored. So many walls barred from entrance.

His mind started racing to wonder what these noises were within the darkness. Quickly, he grabbed his bucket jumping behind a wall that his escape could seem plausible. He wanted to flee though something urged him to stay put in his stance. How long had it been since he had heard anything other than the wind that echoed freely within the ruins?

User Image "Will you stop nagging at me, you are starting to sound like an old critter who has little patience." shouted a young strawberry roan doe as she glanced back absently at a Jack Hop that was seated upon her rump. "You KNOW I have other things I could be doing right now. Right?"

The Jack hop sat with his haunches with his paws kinda crossed as he scowled at Fawn. It seemed that the two were not getting along at the moment. What ever it was that had happened left them both cross. Perhaps it was that Fawn was once again in the Ruins, not that she really left after her jaunt here with Krima. She had found a somewhat safe place to rest for the night and a couple more nights as it seemed that her companion refused to let her go home to Homewood.

'There was more to do here' he had said and Fawn had to argue that just leaving the plant at the site of her Mother and sister's unfortunate grave was enough for a life time. She would help heal other places such as the Barrens and even the Bog she had heard tales of. But the Ruins were a place she never wanted to set hoof.

"We are getting you over your past one way or another." The Jack Hop retorted as he jabbed a paw in her direction.

"My past is my own. Not yours nor anyone else's."] Fawn jabbed back as she looked forwards to see where they had gotten to.

This was certainly farther than she had ever been into the Ruins. The grave to her departed family was far, but not this far. Shaking her head and glancing towards the skies, she didn't much like the idea of rain coming. Giving a shake all over, almost tossing her companion from where he sat. With a roll of her eyes, Fawn looked around at the area. Seemed the path they had been traveling had come to one of many. Lovely.

"Should be set a seed to grow here too?" She asked in jest, but the Jack Hop took it more seriously.

"We should, the more that grow the more this place will stabilize." He mentioned hopping a small distance away to hunt for something in the grass.

She was going to tell him that she was only joking, but when he came back with a seed between his teeth. Fawn could only roll her eyes as he held it up. Here we go again, was on her mind as if she hadn't just done this a few times before.

Glancing back at the seed, she closed her eyes and focused. A soft green glow surrounded her horn as she called upon her ability. Reaching down she touched her horn to the dark colored seed and pulled away a moment later. The seed itself gave a small shake and pop as a green shoot rapidly appeared. The Jack Hop too this time to dig out a shallow hole and drop the sprouted seed into it and bury the already exposed roots.

"There, that wasn't too hard, was it?" He asked giving a bit of a grin.

Fawn on the other hoof, while getting better at her ability it was still a bit taxing. Shaking the haze from her head she glared down at him before looking away.

"Talltale, you are the worst there ever was. Even worse then Miros when I sprouted that seed from the barrens." she muttered, ears turning as if she had heard something.

They weren't alone, someone or something else was out there. They were close, but she couldn't quite tell what it was as her senses had dulled just a bit after sprouting the seed. Talltale though was seated up straight once again and looking in many directions. Turning some as his nose twitched, loudly he shouted. "Who's out there?"

Their voices grew so loud he cringed in the corner certain that shadow was causing chaos. Then Tsarine who broke out in a sweat realized these illusions were quite real. "Am I dreaming?" he spoke softly to himself. Indeed, there were two new souls directly around the corner. One was a strange creature the other a female of his kind? This simply had to be a dream playing foolish tricks on him. Shaking his head closing his eyes tight he fought to listen to the argument going on. Past? Seeds? What were they communicating about? His curiosity was getting the better of him when he accidentally bumped into a crumbling wall causing it to begin its descent to gravity. The creature's accusing voice spooked him to the point he missed being covered by the once stable wall.

"That was close" he spoke in a garbled tone still carrying the handle to his bucket in his teeth. Blinking he realized his quick reflexes left him vulnerable in front of them. It seemed an eternity since he laid eyes on anything other than crumbling walls and darkness. Breaking out in another sweat he dropped his bucket till the water ran over the ground soaking inward. "No, no, no, my water... it's gone!" Tears filled his eyes knowing he could dehydrate at any moment. Scrambling he grasped the handle pulling his bucket upright trying to save what he could. His precious resource was left scattered to droplets leaving him broken. Realizing he was being watched his eyes turned back to the doe and her grouchy companion. "What am I going to do? I'm too far from my sanctuary with the waterfall now". Everything was exceedingly awkward for him to let alone the onlookers.

Straightening himself he cleared his throat, "I'm Tsarine. I live here in the ruins". His mind played through scenarios leaving him confused where they had come from. Then something brightened knowing that these visitors could be from the outworld.

"Are you from the Out World beyond the shadows?" he queried with excitement. Truly a youngling buried in a buck's body he carried many queries. "Was that magic you used? Suddenly, he was nothing but questions eager to seek knowledge. "What's it like outside? What have I missed? Who are you guys?" Questions simply fired out of his well-being until he exhausted himself from a parched tongue. Pausing his eyes slowly slid toward the ground already soaking in his vitality he captured daily.

"Do you by chance carry any water with you?" he felt rather foolish at the moment standing there holding the persona of a foal.

Suddenly, a shadow crept downward slithering along the nearby wall. Jumping on the ground, its body zig zagged quite fast till it slithered right before Tsarine.

"I don't want to intrude in this lovely conversation but, you travelers are in danger here". The creature's own lungs seemed overworked as panting was evident.

Tsarine nearly jumped backward not knowing who or what was talking to them. His mind asking feverishly if this creature lived here as well. Shaking off the thought momentarily he followed his instinct, "Danger? Define danger. I've lived here ever since I entered this place as a youngling".

"I" the creature replied, "am a Scuttle Scoot. My name is Ayala". Gathering her breath once more her tongue flickered quickly sliding over the right eye. "Yes, you re all in danger. I nearly escaped from what is tracking you. It's not pretty, I'll say".

"Tracking us?" he snorted flicking an ear, ]"I've never seen any creatures other than these guys and you, Ayala. Are you certain something else is here?" Now, a Scuttle Scoot joined the party leaving him perplexed what else might join them. If Ayala was telling the truth they'd need to escape from the crossroads. His thoughts darted quickly in decisions knowing danger may have crept ward toward his home. His only way of escape would be leaving the ruins leaving his life behind him.

"Seriously, you all need to get moving" she spoke, eyes scanning the area, "In any case bright boy I'm hitching a ride with you". Leaping onto his leg she scurried upward resting on his rump. Immediately she once again starting cleaning her eyes with her tongue.

Tsarine looked to the other visitors for advice knowing he must leave the ruins till his strength returned to fight this shadow. "Do you know a clear way outside? If this creature is stalking us we need a plan, quick". All his energy now fueled a plan of escape leaving childish thoughts behind. The real answer now lied within their well-being.

There HAD been someone there after all. The buck looked young and his actions seemed to match it. Ears flicking forwards Fawn watched him as he picked up something off the ground that he had apparently dropped. This threw her off as he seemed to tear up over the water spilling from the container Glancing down she looked at Talltale whom only shrugged back.

"Why are you out here? Don't you know this place is not the safest to be?" Fawn asked though her statement will become a valid one in a short amount of time.

After she had asked her question, the buck started firing off questions of his own. So many in fact she didn't know of she could answer them all in any order when he finished. Shaking her head a little, Fawn once more looked at Talltale to see if he could follow along with what the buck was saying.

"Slow down. One question at a time" Said Talltale as he held up a paw as if to say 'stop'. "My name's Talltale, the doe is Russet Fawn. He started as Fawn gave a roll of her eyes.

"I haven't been in the ruins since I was just a foal. Even if this thing here." She poked at Talltale with a hoof. "Yes, that was magic. I can use Botanic magic to make seeds sprout. Even ones that are almost dead it seems."

Her answering of his questions ended as something else appeared between them. A scuttle scale by the looks of it, she had seen a few around, but never bothered them. This one started going off about something stalking them, well that was just lovely. Just what she needed to add to her day in the ruins. Also at this mention, Talltale vaulted onto her back to get a higher vantage point and looking around. His nose twitching quicker then before and ears erect.

"Dangers come in many shapes. And if Ayala is right, we should get out of here with haste and to Homewood." She said quickly, turning towards where she had come from. "I had told Talltale it was a mistake coming this deep into the Ruins, while meeting you Tsarine, but this thing that is stalking. Come on."

Picking up her hooves she started moving back down the path, stopping a moment to make sure the buck was going to follow her. She didn't know that he had a place here in the ruins, but if he had, it wouldn't be safe there either...

Everything was a blur leaving Tsarine to soak in what he could. Running into Russet Fawn and TallTale was one thing, Ayala threatening being stalked was another conundrum. Quicky he settled stuff in his mind leaving nothing to chance he'd forget. Hooves diligently carrying him and Ayala after Russet Fawn he kept in pace as fast as he could muster. The one thing bothering him was this creature that was hot on their trail. What could have crawled in unannounced looking for a meal he pondered.

Ayala clung to Tsarine eyes darting back and forth, "It's close now that you're giving chase". Shifting her eyes once again she coughed, then screamed, "Go left"!

Tsarine felt a prickle in his inner core. A shadow lunged at his back legs until he followed Ayala's request. The shadow crashed headlong into another crumbling wall. Breathing heavy he panted, "That was close, thanka Ayala".

Tilting her head she nodded, "Of course. I'm looking out for you and well, my hide. All I did was check out the ruins and before I knew it, this thing with claws and teeth made me its priority".

Tsarine shook his head picking up his speed to catch up to Russet Fawn and her companion, "Is it possible for me to learn magic as well? It was an attempt at conversation after he pretty much embarrassed himself and the visitors. Keeping a strong stride he spoke once more, "Ever since I was a youngling I've been trapped here. I didn't listen to my parents and well, here I am". Saying a prayer silently for his deceased parents he knew they'd forever be buried in these trapped walls.

"Yes, you didn't listen because you were merely a youngling following a dream. You couldn't have known they'd be buried here for an eternity". Then it dawned on her wondering if his parents could of lead this creature into the ruins themselves. Not in spirit or body either, more so something to feast on. This thought process stayed locked in Ayala's mind because she wasn't a heartless Scuttle scoot like some could be.

Tsarine still in a swift stride nodded, "I know, Ayala, It's still going to be blamed on me... in my mind anyway. Give me some time". His mind traveled in wonderment just how far in the ruins his tiny hooves had carried him once. All the belongings he'd dug out of the dust and foliage were left unattended now back in his sanctuary. Pulling himself into a stronger stride he looked behind them noticing a shadow once more, "You just don't give up do you?"

Ayala quickly called out to TallTale, "How much further till we reach the exit? It's getting way too close for comfort back here!!"

With the knowing that the buck was right behind her, Fawn took off at a faster pace, one that had Talltale clinging to her mane with her teeth. Sure it would have been easier moving with his own four paws, but Fawn was faster and he had no want to be someone's good. An ear flicking back as Tsarine leaped to the side, she too altered course and headed in another direction the weave through some of the larger piles of debris and smaller growing trees.

"Anyone can learn magic. You just have to journey to a large ancient tree. It is white as the snow and stands in the Barrens." She glanced back to see if anything was close. "Very far from here."

Looking forward again she leaped over a low hanging tree. A head the lines between the ruins and Homewood started to come into sight. Just a head was their salvation, at least that is what she hoped. Not much dared enter the forest and many noulicorns lived there that were stronger then her. Magic and even physically.

"Homewood straight a head, not that much farther." Fawn answered for Talltale who was trying to hang onto her back. He didn't really have the claws like the scuttle scale "We get there and hopefully whatever is behind us will break off and go away." This she hoped anyways...

"Anyone can learn magic. You just have to journey to a large ancient tree. It is white as the snow and stands in the Barrens."

Resonating strong words gave him hope to tap more stride carrying him out of the ruins. Filtering sunlight had always been a blessing for him in the ruins. A warming sensation that brought a continuation of life. Even the overcast days bringing a chilled coat sung of rain bringing his beloved waterfall. Everything he knew by heart was being left behind.

"Hey, when you grow stronger you can come back, Tsarine. This creature could become more than one instant calamity. Your home was hidden deep in the ruins. Hard to say, but, these shadows might have found you off-guard. Be glad I found you before it did".

The young buck nodded noting the creature had doubled back finally. Something in that area drew it inward he was certain. "Homewood. I'm so happy to see the place they talked about before the ruins. They were always afraid to go there". Following in-suite, he leaped over the low tree and blinked. Finally, the light was overcast but the air was exhilarating making him leap into a longer stride. He saw the trees, the grass, everything materialized simply before his eyes.

"Hey, Big Boy! Easy on the leaping, I nearly fell off your rump back there", she scolded with a small hiss. The new background was immersive to a soul stuck in the shadows.

Tsarine moved even faster till the world shone upon him once more releasing his excitement in a kick of his heels. Oh, how he desired to roll in the grass, swim in the water, simply be himself! By now he had passed Russet Fawn and her companion heading directly to Home Wood. He hadn't a clue what he'd encounter there but it was his first connection to his true calling.

"Thank you Russet Fawn and TallTale!" he called out hoping they heard him. Why had he not listened to his parents beforehand? He missed so much of his life along with his kind. Shaking his head he shot for those welcoming trees never looking back to the ruins. Someday he'd return, for now, though it was time to live his life. Then he'd find his magic and return once again.
