When Hazeline returned to the normal world outside of the dreamlike state of the Grandfather tree, she was a little hazy on what exactly had happened out there and what exactly she had seen.
Thankfully, this so-called vision quest had given her two gifts. The first was her most prized one, she had been gifted with a botanic ability. Quite obviously this was her favorite because this meant that she would be able to take even better care of her den now that she could pollinate the flowers around it. She couldn’t have thanked the Grandfather tree anymore and she vowed to bring little flower crowns to leave at the roots, perhaps even dress the roots too if she managed something big enough. Making the flower strands required some mouth and hoof dexterity that she hadn’t quite gotten the hang of yet but she’d try.
The second gift was that the vision quest had shown her everything she needed to know about the ruins, which meant she would never, ever again set foot in that place. She had no need to and she certainly didn't plan on ever allowing her children, if she ever had any, close to that crazy place. There were other Noulicorn’s who were far more able to handle such a situation and place and she was not one of them. Once it was healed, hazeline would revisit her decision but for now she saw no need to go there herself.
That same night she’d been gifted, Hazeline had returned to her den and checked up on the flowers. Tomorrow she would visit her grand-mother and show her the new gift she’d been bestowed with. For now though, she enjoyed her privacy.
The quiet murmur of the forest always pulled her to sleep and soon enough she was yawning. It was time to bed for the night. Hazeline headed inside, jumping onto her two back feet once to n** at the little leaves that were descending on the entrance of her home. Her way of saying goodnight to the large tree living as her upstairs neighbor. Inside, darkness reigned and she found her way to the pile of mixed leaves and flower petals that she’d built up. Here, she trampled them a bit before leaning down while bending her front legs and settling her rump down.
It didn’t take long for her to tuck her head in under the long tendrils of her tail and close her eyes. She was hoping to sleep in a bit so covering her eyes would be best to avoid the sunlight of the early morning.
And just like that she was asleep.
-----
The following morning almost came too quickly for Hazeline. She took in a deep breath, filling her lungs with the morning air before lifting her head up and yawning. Her eyes blinked a few times but stayed half closed as her ears took in the sounds of the morning. Everything seemed to be in order, still Hazleine stayed in her warm spot just to take in her morning. She could see her little garden from where she was tucked in and she simply wanted to enjoy the morning with her flowers before she headed out for the day. Her first task before she went to find her grandmother would be to care for the garden, get a good bath and then go grazing with her grandmother.
Which is exactly what Hazeline did. By the time she’d finished getting the little weds out of her grass and checking up on her newest additions, she went off towards the small creek by her home. The water here barely ran, there was only the smallest of cascading water but it was enough to step in and get wet. The doe came out and shook herself out, the sun would dry her by the time she found her grandmother. Her stomach was rumbling so she was looking for a good grazing session.
“Grandmother!” Hazeline called as she spotted the elderly chocolate doe. She turned and said hello with a switch of her tail before the two met. Hazeline gave her a good rub on the neck.
“How have you been?” Her grandmother spared no time and went to grazing right away, as did Hazeline who answered between mouthfuls of sweet grass.
“Good. I went to visit the Grandfather tree yesterday and received my gift. I was given botanic with the ability to pollinate.”
“Ah, you’re so old now. I am glad the Grandfather tree gave you such a gift, it was the same as your mother.”
Hazeline didn’t comment further on her mother, she hadn’t been abandoned but her mother had little to no interest in raising children and so she rarely saw the doe and had no idea who her father was. Apparently she had siblings, somewhere, but her mother didn’t see fit to keep up with any of her children’s lives. Thankfully, her grandmother had picked up the slack where Hazeline was concerned. Her mother loved adventure and Hazeline had been a thing that trapped her, sometimes Hazeline was glad she’d been left behind, other times... Well she tried not to think about it.
“My garden is growing very big, you should visit sometime. No one else gets to see it.” Hazeline avoided the subject.
“You should be healing like the others Hazeline.” Her grandmother said sternly, giving her a look.
“Don’t worry... I’ll do my part.” She replied a little miffed her grandmother would think she was shy away from helping the world. It was their duty after all. Hazeline turned her back to her grandmother to make sure that the conversation was now closed. As she munched on grass she spotted something in the tall grass that was vaguely familiar. Frowning, Hazeline lifted her head and swivelled her ears about. Why was this thing familiar? What was it? And then it dawned on her, it looked like the thing she’d pulled from the ruins.
“I’ll be right back!”
Before her grandmother could protest, Hazeline was trotting up to the thing.
