Krima looked helplessly on at the ruins of Erli. She’d awoke very early in the morning before even the sun was out so she could make it to the ruins in the wee hours of the morning. She planned on spending the whole day learning the ways of the ruin and using as much of her gift as she could to restore even the smallest bit of the ruins. Or learn as much as was possible considering this was probably one of the most secretive areas of the known world. It probably wasn’t how most other Noulicorn’s planned out their day, but Krima was determined to at least learn enough of the ruins so that she would no longer be afraid.

So here she stood before the heaps of towering metal structures and old cracking concrete. The natural world had begun to take over the ruins, but it was not enough. As far as Krima could tell, there was no soil here, only hard ground that was slipper and sometimes painful to walk on. Some it was streaked with cracks that extended as the eye could see, other parts were beginning to be covered by the moss contrasting against the dreary grey color. She didn’t understand how someone could live in such a way.

It didn’t get better the further in she went either. The Other had completely removed all of the trees. Why? Why could they not have lived in tune with nature as the Noulicorn did? Nature was creeping back in but it would be so long before a tree would be able to find space to grow in such an area. Krima wished she had been given the gift of Botanic instead. It would have helped a lot more than her little drizzle. Still, no gift was useless and whenever she could, she paused and used her gift to drizzled a faint rain on the small plants that had managed to wedge themselves and blossom in an area.

Krima found herself venturing carefully into buildings, testing her mind to capture as much information as she could. She explored every little corner until she had exhausted all of her surroundings before moving to the next location.

At about noon, when the sun was high in the sky, Krima felt just a bit more comfortable. She hadn’t explored that many buildings but she’d come to at least recognize some and their particular features. It would take her even more days, if not weeks and months, maybe even years before she even began to comprehend all of the ruins to be able to confidently get around but at least if she could recognize a few buildings it was a good start. They weren’t as scary looking, only less natural now.

The more Krima used her gift, the more she felt that she would have to return to the Grandfather tree and learn more. She needed to, she needed more power to be able to heal things faster and be better. Maybe, just maybe if she could get enough of the world healed then more Noul’s would come and help her and together things would progress much faster. She needed to find a Botanic Noul who was brave enough to spend time in the ruins with her. If they could only see and understand as she did, and spend the time... They too would come.

And the more than came, the more secrets they would be able to unveil. What had The Other left behind that they could use if anything at all? As she moved about the buildings inspecting, sometimes grazing in the rare grass patch, she knew there was more than this place was telling. But as the sun began to dip and shadowy corners were consumed by darkness, Krima began to feel uneasy in the ruins even after spending a whole day there. She couldn’t put her finger on it but she began to make her way back towards the exit.

The doe was quite proud to actually remember and recognize a few of the buildings around the entrance of the ruins. This had been good progress today, but she would not spend the night. Not yet at least, she could feel the ruins were not ready yet to be inhabited. Krima looked back at the ruins as the sun dipped below the horizon, the sky now deep reds and oranges. Not soon, but someday, yes, someday Krima would make her home here and she would make sure all the Noul’s felt at home.

For now, however, she began her journey back to her den. Her feet and legs ache from all the walking and climbing she’d done during the day, but it was a good kind of pain. It meant she’d actually done something important and constructive with all the energy she held within her.
