Hazeline’s den was one of her greatest achievements if she ever admitted so out loud, especially the outside. Her den was a little nook she had dug out from the side of a cliff in the forest. For the most part the entrance was mostly covered by a few trees who kept it ever so slightly hidden from the rest of the forest. On top of it rose a large willow-like tree whose branches were so long they reached the top of the entrance. Nouli’s were too short to be touched by them, but she hoped perhaps in a couple of years the entrance would be covered in a drape.

Then the real work had begun. Hazeline had gathered as many seeds from as many different flowers as she could and planted them all around the entrance of the den as well as in front. Over the years, her hard work had paid off and when one went to her den, they found a path of wild flowers which led to a flowering cliffside as well. And her work never finished, she was always gathering seeds in her den, always trying to plant different ones in different areas to see what would be the outcome. Some people called her creative, but many also called her impractical.

Today she was out hunting for seeds again, Hazeline followed her nose around Homewood. Dipping her head into bushes and flower patches as well. Well, this little doe found herself getting closer and closer to the area of the Grandfather Tree. She’d never wandered too close to the tree, even if it was beautiful, she didn’t think it would feel right to take any seeds she found around the tree to begin with. However, today she felt pulled to pass the threshold and seek out the tree itself.

So she moved in towards the towering tree. A little part of her was even excited to be seeing the tree up close and personal! She’d always been intrigued but had never felt the need to seek out the tree before. Perhaps it was because her hard-working days solely focused on her search to better her den had been all encompassing in her life and didn’t allow for anything else to sneak in. While many would also attribute this to her lack of friends, Hazeline chalked it up to simply being more private than others.

The closer Hazeline got, the more she was in awe at the sheer size of the Grandfather tree. It was so big! Even the roots seemed to be of monstrous proportions, it was quite incredible! Why had she not wanted to come before? She didn’t think she’d find any trees here, tho probably wouldn’t have taken anything back home out of respect. Still, she stared up the trunk and towards the branches up high. What did people say about this place again?

Though no breeze passes through, Grandfather Tree's leaves rustle as Hazeline approaches.

Choose one of the following prompts for Hazeline's dream vision.

Quote:
While travelling through Homewood you meet an unfamiliar foal. The foal acts strangely and doesn’t communicate well. It appears to be orphaned. On closer inspection you realize the foal is sick with some disease you don’t recognize. The disease might endanger the rest of Homewood, but this poor foal…
What do you do?

Quote:
While travelling the Barrens you come across the skull of a massive animal. You don’t have the magic to resurrect it here but dragging it back to Homewood on your own would be exhausting or nearly impossible.
What do you do?

Quote:
You are in the ruins of Erli. Smoke billows out of one of the laboratories. You hear a cry of fear.
What do you do?

How had she gotten here? Hazeline shook her head, she had no recollection of going to the ruins of Erli. She absolutely hated this place, the tall towering structures scared her. It was all so unnatural, nothing like Homewood. She didn’t understand how such a place could even begin to exist. Not to even mention the kind of dangerous that probably lurked in every corner of the area, it was absolutely not a place for anyone to simply wander off to. Grimacing, Hazeline decided to try and get out of the maze of dilapidated homes surrounding her. The place was a maze and she didn't even know if she could get out of here.

And then a noise.

All of Hazeline’s hair stood on end as she stopped in mid-stride, leg up in the air. Her eyes went wide and her ears swivelled madly around. Had that been a scream? Was it the wind? Hazeline listened to the returned deafening silence. She hated this place. Had to be the wind, no one came here on their own... Right? She didn’t hear anything else though, best to keep moving then.

After a few minutes of standing still, she continued her trek around the homes and structures, being careful to avoid the more dangerous looking areas. It was a little past midday and the sun would be setting, there was no way Hazleine was going to be caught in the ruins at night. The doe hurried her pace, almost at a trot now she could almost see the exit! Or at least what looked like the exit to the ruins. Now she was almost running through the ruins avoiding obstacles as she went. So, so close now! She’d be home free after this.

And then a yell thundered through the ruins which completely stopped Hazeline in her tracks so quickly she almost stumbled upon herself and fell to the ground. She turned her head quickly from side to side, spying the exact location of the scream. Ears perked forward when she finally located the metal building where she knew the scream had come from because she could hear panic cries coming from the other side of the large metal door.

Hazeline trotted in place for a bit, tossing her head as she pondered exactly what to do. If there was another Nouli in there she couldn’t just leave them there. What if it was a foal?! But what if there was also a dangerous thing in there too? What if she wasn’t needed. All these questions jumbled into her mind as she tried to keep calm and think. If she was stuck and in a panic, she wouldn’t have wanted to be left behind, so she at least had to give it a try.

So off she went at a full canter until she reached the door. “Hold on!” She yelled back before she tried to push open the door by getting up on her back legs and using all her weight to push the door with her front legs. The door budge just a sliver but definitely not enough for whatever or whoever was inside to get out. Hazleine gave a huff, moving back from the door as the panic cries continued, louder now that the door was slightly open. She moved closer and looked in to see what exactly was going on but was only met with complete darkness, and that’s when she caught sight of something moving in the shadows.

Hazeline yelled, moving back from the door so quickly she almost pumped into the next building. Was it the shadow of whoever was stuck in there? Was there a monster locked in there too waiting to be unleashed? She would try one more time and if that did not work then she could not stay here any longer, the night would blanket the world in darkness and who knew what lived and came out at night around these parts? She was certainly not sticking around to find out.

Bracing herself, Hazeline took a running start towards the door, this time using her shoulder to push the door with all her might. She was more successful this time, the door grew wide enough that she closed her eyes and plunged her head into the darkness to grab onto whatever was making noise and dragged it right out from the dark room by the scruff of the neck or hair or something. She dropped it and while keeping an eye on the door began to move it with her legs towards the exit. There was no way she was not keeping an eye on that door in case anything came out of it. She hadn’t even had time to see what exactly she’d grabbed out of the room either since she kept it just at the corner of her eye.

The thing moved slowly but finally got the message and moved faster towards the exit. Once they were safely outside of the ruins parameters, Hazeline turned to see what exactly she’d just taken out of the ruins. Unfortunately, it had kept going and she only caught a glimpse as it entered some taller grass. Hazeline sighed loudly and ran after it, now she needed to know what or who it was that had given her a bruised shoulder.
