Information

Born of dragons and mortal races, Half-Dragons walk proudly through a world that doesn't fully understand them and perhaps even fear them. They were rumored to have been created by draconic gods or dragons themselves, though they aren't even sure of the truth. Some say that Half-Dragons originally hatched from dragon eggs as unique beings, combining the best attributes of dragons and humanoids. Some Half-Dragons are faithful servants to true dragons, others find their calling as soldiers in great wars, and still, others find themselves adrift, uncertain on where their life should go.

Before the Plague, Half-Dragons were known to put their clan above all else, even the gods. Their very devotion and respect to their clans made them beings to fear. They fiercely believed that an individual's conduct could bring shame on their whole clan, and thus they tried to conduct themselves with honor befitting their people and beliefs. The clan was all.

Since the Plague, many clans have been divided and many more have ceased to exist. Because of this, though uncommon, some Half-Dragons have become individualistic and have even given into more basic instincts that had once been nearly erased. This has restored some fear into the more common folk, no one wants to cross an angry dragon.

More common, many Half-dragons have turned to form their own 'clans', some have even gone as far as welcoming other races and becoming the glue that holds these bonds together. Half-Dragons take these bonds very seriously and have known to become very protective of anyone who might cause harm to their new families.

Half-Dragons have received an elemental type from a Dragonic Patron of their former clan. Though this used to coincide with a color of Half-Dragon the Dragons have figured out a way to pass on their element through a bond or kinship. Sometimes a Dragon will bestow this gift through a dream or a direct bloodline.

Pick one when creating your character. (Or you can say that your character has not earned this right yet and has to find a dragon to serve.) Chromatic Dragons tend toward the Evil alignment, Metallic more toward the Good alignment.

Chromatic Dragons -
Black Dragon - Acid
Blue Dragon - Lightning
Green - Poison
Red - Fire
White - Cold

Metallic Dragons -
Brass - Poison
Bronze - Lightning
Copper - Acid
Silver - Cold

Appearance

The shortest Half-Dragons are around 6 and a half feet tall and the race can reach upwards to 8 feet tall, some may even be taller. They're generally bulkier than most other races, and even those who look lither carry powerful muscles in their legs and arms.

Most Half-Dragons could pass for human if not for their wings, horns, ears and powerful tails. Some even sport a scattering of scales and vicious looking claws, giving them a very fierce appearance. Half-Dragons have slit pupils and sharp teeth, making it easy for them to tear into enemies.

Their coloring can range in a variety of colors and follows no specific patterns, and though in the past their color would dictate what element they had an affinity for, it no longer does.

History

The dragons were perhaps the first to notice that something had become entirely wrong with the world. Living in their own places of power, they could feel the shift of magic and the sickness welling up from the very earth itself. The dragons tried for decades to change the inevitable, but as their abilities waned (since it was tied to the power of the earth) they could do very little but watch it happen. Many of the dragons died trying to save their kin and the power vacuum made the very world change. This left many Half-Dragons unable to cope with the loss of their patrons, many died from the changes to both the world and their power, while others could no longer bare living. Many clans were devastated, scattered or wiped out, leaving a few stragglers, if any, to wander Vigala alone.

The rise of the dragons toward the city has surprised the mortal races about how many Half-Dragons there actually were. They had spent so long secluded from other races that their numbers had been hidden. This caused a rising tension as Half-Dragons are very territorial beings until a Half-Dragon named Nashrak was able to pull many of the remaining clans into one (called The Scaleborn), creating a vigilant force to keep the rest of the race in check.

Tips for Playing

  • Most Half-Dragons are Lawful, though there can be some exceptions.
  • They are bigger and taller than humans, and this size can be intimidating to shorter races.
  • Their anger can be fierce and quick. They often act without thinking.
  • Nashrak is a Scion of a Blue Dragon. He is one of the oldest living Half-Dragons still alive.
