Both are detailed and slightly manipulative, but Suzie is driven and intense where Wren is lazy and ambivalent. Having his mistrust replaced by nurturing is the culmination and fulfillment of Wren's character. Having her mistrust replaced by nurturing would be the defeat of Suzie's character.

She remembers her life very vividly, and relives it over and over, immersed in memories long past and searching for anything to explain the magic that apparently isn’t there. Some days she has better control of her feelings, while other days she drowns in them.
PARTICULAR Vera's space is always immaculately polished, her clothes are always pristinely pressed, and her hair is washed three times over and done without a hair out of place. While what constitutes “perfect” may vary with mood and place, she is very consistently particular about organizing and cleaning and often bothered when other people--particularly her younger brothers--do not share the same standards. As such, she has a tendency to get controlling as she works through details. This attention to detail though, serves her well in her work, where, combined with her memory, allows her to memorize and later replicate lace and embroidery patterns precisely.
STRONG WILLEDVera doesn’t give up, pursuing her goals and interests with undeterred determination. This determination and passion for seamstry is what built her skills such that she finally feels like she can compete with wizarding designers and dressmakers, even as a squib. AESTHETIC Despite her cynicism, Vera loves beautiful events like weddings and parties, and chases weddings in particular for the taste of “secondhand love”. She embodies whatever mood or aesthetic she’s fixated on, and is constantly updating her spaces to chase the aesthetic ideal—whether that be cottagecore or dark academic, minimalist chic, naturalistic, etc—themes and aesthetics resonate very strongly with Vera, and she infuses that resonance into her life and work. After all, if she has to remember something anyways, it may as well be something beautiful.

xxx✬BACKSTORY✫xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ✬✫EARLY CHILDHOOD Susan's earliest memory was when she was five, scattering flower petals in the breeze at her parents’ wedding. She remembers the lacework on her mom’s dress, the corsage on her dad’s suit, the smiles on their faces. The three of them seemed happy enough together, living in a small townhouse in Winchester, England. Her mother, Halinor, made floral arrangements in a flower shop she had worked in since high school; Suzie loved helping, even if it was just making sure tools and books always went back to where they came from. Her father, Guillian, was an herbologist and cursebreaker consultant that ran his family’s gardens in Stirling, Scotland; Suzie loved how he would swing her onto his shoulders and “fly” around with a tennis ball charmed to hover around.
She remembers the first fight. A casual conversation grew heated, and finally, Guillian left through the fireplace. One fight led to another until finally they stopped fighting at all. The separation had been amicable, but inevitably ended in divorce.
✬✫SCHOOL and SURRENDER Amongst her mother’s frequent visitors was one Nari Siddall, and Suzie occasionally saw her son Nimbus at school. Nimbus’s best friend was Wren Winchester, a rude boy who always called her socks and outfit “mismatched”. Once, she overheard the pair talking to snakes. She told their classmates, thinking it would be fun information, but no one believed her. Then in second grade, Suzie overheard the boys talking about how Nim’s mother’s death might not be an accident. This time the rumors started like wildfire. Wren confronted her about starting the rumors, and she lost the fight--no doubt because the boy used magic, Suzie blamed— but he left the school afterwards anyways, leaving her free to befriend Nim for herself. Even though the kids in the class still thought she was weird, Suzie was happy to thereafter have a friend-- at least for a while.
Suzie herself didn’t show any signs of magic as a young girl, no matter how much she tried to make magic happen from the moment she knew it was a thing. At first, it didn’t bother her. She was just a late-blooming child, her wizard-father had always assured. She learned as much as she could about magic in the meantime. Her brother though, almost 7 years younger, was a mere toddler when he started levitating pudding boxes into the shopping cart. Galen was different: His face changed, his hair changed-- everything about him seemed to shift fluidly along.
Galen had other health problems, ones that Halinor struggled to manage. While Guillian was still paying child support, the man himself had gone missing on an extended cursebreaking job. Halinor was caught playing a balancing act between keeping Galen hidden at home (or magical homes nearby) and risking exposure. Ultimately, the child support services witch assigned to their case didn’t think Halinor was doing a good job. Halinor had tried her best to cooperate with the support services--up until they tried to take Galen away. Friday, 1 December 2051– Halinor reacted violently--desperately--and finally they stunned her, and removed Galen and Suzie to Wool’s Orphanage. Suzie found out on Monday that her mother had been obliviated, and they were to be left at Wool’s.
Initially, Susan was angry but ambivalent, saying that in a few months she’d be going to Hogwarts anyways. When her letter didn’t come, she felt confused and betrayed. Surely this was some mistake. She continued studying what she could, as though knowing the magic would allow her to do it, but the years passed, and still no letter. For a long time, she didn’t know if she wanted a new home and went constantly back and forth. Part of her insisted she’d be fine on her own, but the other half was desperate for a fresh start. A new home, a new family, maybe even a new name.
Galen, by contrast, made friends with everyone. He was friends with another metamorphmagus called Cassidy and then a girl called Harmony. But both of them got adopted without Susan. Bitter and angry, Susan didn't answer Harmony's letters for a long while-- her former friend was off sailing the high seas and she was stuck going to a stupid muggle school.
✬✫JOB and ADOPTIONOn 15 June 2049, Cassidy was adopted. As she watched Galen mope by the window with a river of hair and nostalgia, Susan’s heart hardened. By the end of August, she had given up on her birthparents. She told Galen to stop telling people they were related so he at least might have a chance of adoption, and resolved to graduate out of Wool’s and find her own place.
As soon as Susan turned 15, she applied to work at Slug and Jigger's in Diagon Alley. Work gave her an opportunity to actually put the knowledge she had been studying seemingly fruitlessly to use. Studying itself felt easier with memories attached. She saved her earnings, putting them towards getting magical supplies at Madame Ursula’s Fortune Shop or towards her future apartment.
In Summer of 2051, Vernova and Aileas Saylor started coming to Wool's and soon after adopted her, Galen, and Wally. Afterwards, Susan officially changed her name entirely, to Vera Yves Saylor, after her favorite fashion designers and new parent. Homeschool with Nova and Aileas went much better than muggle schooling, and Vera applied herself assiduously to even old subjects. She pased the GCSE without incident and, at her parents' recommendation, she started interning at the Bewitched Boutique while continuing at the apothecary.
✬✫ROMANCE AND CAREER Vera’s first encounter with romance was unfortunately a disaster– a drunken evening in late 2052 with Yukon Knolle. He was gallant, sensitive, funny, and immediately lovable. He also burst out crying partway through the night, grieving the loss of his fiancee earlier in the year. The experience left Vera hurt, confused, and angry.
Vera and Harmony Aindrias flirted while Harmony was in school. It took Vera a while to admit her own attraction and sexuality, but eventually after talking to Nova, Vera came around. She and Harmony were together for 3 magical years–Harmony even helped her see her hyperthymesia in a more positive light. But their career goals were too different and eventually the long-distance relationship fell apart – after a particularly brutal fight when Vera said things she couldn't–or rather, stubbornly didn’t– take back, they officially split in late August 2057.
While her own dating life left her jaded, Vera was inspired by her friends’ weddings and a started a little annex to the Bewitched Boutique where she worked on wedding gowns and suits and helped plan weddings. She sourced flowers from friendly wizarding businesses such as Bouquets and Bowtruckles in Diagon Alley, and cakes from For Goodness Bakes. While she no longer worked there, Vera retained ties to Slug and Jiggers.
The winter before his graduation, Milan Wellbelove, a frequent customer and son of the glamorous wizarding designer Charlotte Wellbelove, mentioned starting a shop together, focused on bespoke and haute couture with a special emphasis on wedding events. With Lena’s blessing as her master in design and dressmaking, Vera put her all into the shop– and after a dizzying Fashion Week, on 20 August 2060, Cloak and Coven launched.

Weekdays
Wakes up around 7:00 -- get ready, brushes hair, irons uniform, breakfast Gets to school at 8:30 sharp. Susan is quiet, unremarkable and a straight B student. She can get an A- if she really, really tries, but that hasn't happened in forever. She does the minimum for homework now, and rarely finds anything in muggle school exciting. Her best subjects are English and Art History. She eats alone, usually reading a magic-related book or doing homework. She does occasionally go to like Plant club or Chemistry lab and try something, but very carefully. Generally has a reputation of being a weird witchy girl.
Afternoons she has been going directly back to Wools. May mope and reminisce or scold and clean for a few hours if she's in a mood. Does homework, asks magic-studying questions of Steffi or Luke while helping with dinner if she can. She goes to bed at 23:00, but sometimes can't sleep and will go up to the roof to clear her head.
Weekends
Wakes up around 8:00 or 9:00 Finishes homework and then is immediately studying magic again. Astronomy, History, Herbology, and Divination are her preferred/ best subjects generally. Transfiguration and Potions are doable. Charms is way over her head and DADA she knows the creatures but can't always understand the spells. Theory is not her friend the same way it is for August. She is trying to understand and study this stuff without being able to cast it, but she's still trying to do it. After lunch spends like 2 hours tidying up, then it's back to reading about magic. Scolds other kids for leaving a mess. Occasionally will accompany someone shopping or something in the afternoon. Does start looking for a job around now.

Wakes up around 8:00 or 9:00 Finishes homework and then is immediately studying magic again. Astronomy, History, Herbology, Potions and Divination are her preferred/ best subjects generally. Transfiguration and Potions are doable. Charms is way over her head and DADA she knows the creatures but can't always understand the spells. Theory is not her friend the same way it is for August. She is trying to understand and study this stuff without being able to cast it, but she's still trying to do it. After lunch spends like 2 hours tidying up around the house. Relaxes by flipping through fashion magazines, sketching her own patterns, going shopping after work, and tending to the garden.

Wakes up around 7:00 -- get ready, brushes hair, irons clothes, breakfast Likes to spend the morning with Nova just chatting and discussing what's up in the world. This is probably her favorite time of the day. Vera actually tries very, VERY hard at magic homeschooling, and her effort carries over to non-magic subjects once she sees how to use them. This is a HUGE boost in self-acceptance and esteem. Also more assertive about what she wants to learn. (~ 4 hours a day?)
Part time at Slug and Jigger's Apothecary in Diagon Alley (via floo) usually midmorning shifts? (4 hours shifts x weekday mornings?) The Bewitched Boutique in Hogsmeade (MWF afternoons, as needed?) Other days goes to Nova's firm and just studies magic, helps organize and tries to pick up some law. She goes to bed at 23:00, but sometimes can't sleep and will go out to the garden/ orchard to clear her head.
Weekends

Makes a point to try to spend an hour or so with Galen and Wally, but is usually caught up doing her own thing in the art room. The Bewitched Boutique in Hogsmeade (Saturday mornings?) After lunch does a little shopping then spends like 2 hours tidying up around the house. Relaxes by flipping through fashion magazines, sketching her own patterns, going shopping after work, and tending to the garden. Makes a point to spend some time with Galen and Wally.

Cloak and Coven in Diagon (M-F 10-20:00 usually Sat afternoons, if needed) She gets in anywhere from 8:30 to 10, depending on how stressed she is and how many projects she has to work on. She tries not to work with clients before noon or after 16:00. Stays in the shop for at least a couple hours after closing to work on designs and projects. Lunch (~ 12) she does locally or at home if she knows Aileas or Nova will be there. Dinner (~18:00?) is usually at home, but if there's more work to do she just orders locally or packs something at lunch. **Vera doesn't mind inconsistent schedules as long as she's AWARE of them. It makes for a more interesting variety of memory. She goes to bed at 23:00, but sometimes can't sleep and will go out to the garden/ orchard to clear her head or back to the shop to work.
