The candy cane was unlike any other that you’ve seen before, and it was even more surprising since it was hidden in a box of the normal red and white kind. It’s a beautiful blue with silver and clear stripes in it that seem to glisten. When you start to eat this holiday treat, it seems colder than normal, and after about fifteen minutes, part of your body seems a lot colder, in fact…it seems to have been turned to ice. The ice lasts for an hour and will not melt nor shatter. It then fades, with warmth finally coming back to the frozen body part. It doesn’t matter if you only take a taste of the wintery treat, the effect is the same no matter how much you ingest! Boy, this will sure stop you from thinking twice before eating strangely colored candy canes!

Candy canes weren’t normally something he ate, he was still a bit new to them, but when someone had brought them to work with a note attached to the box he’d helped himself. Someone, the note didn’t say who, had brought the treats for everyone, so Boon-nam had decided to take one for himself. What he didn’t expect was to find some odd blue and silvery colored candy cane, maybe it was some sort of special for this box? But the box didn’t say it might contain some random odd candy cane. So there was, from what he could tell, no explanation to the odd coloring of the single candy cane.

Deciding to take it for himself he slipped it into his pocket and continued about his day, he’d have it when he got home. Whenever someone at work mentioned the candy canes he would nod his head and confirm he’d grabbed one, he was waiting till he got home though.

When he finally did get home, bidding one or two of his coworkers a good night, Boon-nam was happy to head home as quickly as he could. It wasn’t that he disliked his job, he didn’t mind it, but rather that he’d been stuck near a door most of the day and with it opening so often it had let a chill in and he wanted to get home and get warm. He also wanted to watch a drama while bundled up in blankets, it was something he enjoyed doing, so he was in a bit of a hurry to get himself home.

When he did get home, his shoes and coat put away, Boon-nam hurried towards the bedroom to grab some warmer indoor clothing which he could shuffle about the apartment in. While changing he unwrapped the candy cane he had and stuck the straight end into his mouth to suck on as he moved about his apartment and got something ready to eat, reheated soup, and went to get his laptop set up to his tv so he could watch the tv show he wanted on the big screen in the living room.

What he almost missed, and did miss at first, was how chilly the candy cane was. Normally they could get a shiver from him, they were a very cool treat, but this seemed colder somehow. It tasted normal but somehow managed to be colder and it had him wondering if it was some new experiment by the company, maybe that’s why it was a different color?

What told him things weren’t normal, that it wasn’t some new formulation, was when he started to feel ice cold at the tips of his ears - like numbing cold. That wasn’t normal and yet he felt it, it had him touching and rubbing at his ear lobes, as took the candy cane from his mouth and hurried to the kitchen to toss it out. Whatever it was magic was likely involved, because it made no sense any other way. Now he had to wait and hope he regained feeling, and he hoped it wouldn’t be long, or what else could he do? There was no one he could go to and nothing he could do if it didn’t right itself.

Worry in his mind, hoping that it would fix itself, he went to curl up under a mountain of blankets in the hopes that somehow the warmth from them all might speed up whatever recovery he could make.
