The Slumbering Weald is a mysterious forest that is gated off from Postwick town to ward off reckless children and pokemon from trying to enter. The forest itself is almost completely covered with a dense fog, and if one listens closely, you can hear distant howling. It's easy for travelers to get lost while wondering around. The pokemon here closer to Postwick are fairly harmless, but it is said that deeper in, there are some very powerful pokemon, which is why the residents of Postwick try and keep younger, inexperienced trainers from going in. Mysteriously, some travelers will frequently find themselves getting turned around back towards Postwick without intending to. It is as if the fog is serving as a protective form of misdirection, preventing the unworthy from getting deeper into the forest.

✧✧【Carefully picking their way along the gently winding path leading deeper into the forest, Eveline kept a close eye on Gin and Tonic as they scouted a little ways ahead to make sure they didn’t wander off too far. The Torracat, on the other hand, gave a loud huffing growl in frustration. She’d been hoping that the Pokemon here would at least be worth fighting given how obviously off-limits this place was. It was pretty clear this place wasn’t devoid of life, she could hear the rustling of brush as a squirrel-like tail disappeared into the thicket, the babbling of a brook as they walked over an old, moss-grown stone bridge, and the red eyes of numerous Hoothoot perched on tree branches were clearly visible even with the mist obscuring them. Still, it didn’t seem like any of forest’s residents were willing to get close enough to engage them in battle, even quickly shying away whenever they so much as walked right by. Pah, not like they’d even be worth the trouble anyways…
”The hell’s even the deal wit’ this place? Besides bein’ all misty n’ creepy lookin’ n’ s**t, I don’t see why the folks ‘round here seem to give such a big load if it's really as dangerous as they say it's s'pposed to be,”she asked aloud, giving her Luxray companion a sharp look. ✧✧【Eveline froze as she caught wind of the distant howling, maybe that was why the locals were so worried about trying to keep people out of this place. At least enough to justify blocking off the path leading into these woods, ineffective as it was otherwise. The path ahead was drenched in a particularly heavy, impassable-looking layer of fog, like pea soup thick… She thought she saw something moving just beyond the dense mist, a barely visible shadow that seemed to linger there for only a brief fraction of a moment before appearing to walk off deeper into the forest. Beyond the miasma that seemed to warn them to progress further at their own peril. She wasn’t sure what it was she might’ve seen, but from the barest hint she could make out of the shadow and the way it moved that definitely hadn’t been another person… ”Let’s just find that star and leave, I think we’ve overstayed our welcome for long enough,” she said, quickly casting a glance over her shoulder the way they came. It seemed clear enough for them to easily retrace their steps back to the entrance, so there was that at the very least.
A sudden call from up ahead caught her and Lam’s attention, Gin and Tonic quickly making their way back over to their trainer with their findings in tow. Clutched between the Torracat’s teeth was a small, knobby looking purplish rock, veins of red cutting through its surface as it glowed with an almost unearthly light. ”Yeah, that’s it. Nice job, you two,” Eveline praised, a small smile crossing her lips as she bent down and gave each of them a gentle pat, Tonic depositing the Wishing Star into her hand after receiving some well-deserved ear scritches. ”C’mon, let’s get zee hell out of here.” She certainly wasn’t going to stick around long enough for… whatever that was she’d seen to possibly attack them if they lingered for too long. Though as they turned around to make their way back towards the forest entrance, Eveline swore she could feel a pair of sharp eyes following them closely from beyond the fog until they stepped back out into the bright sunlight of Postwick once more.】✧✧

Getting into the forest was easy, mostly because the path was wide open. The only thing that would have really barred her way was a flimsy gate, but it looked like something had forced it open some time earlier. Probably one of the many, many wooloo grazing in the area rolled into the gate and knocked its latch loose. Not that it really mattered to Sable, other than meaning that when no one was looking she was able to sneak in without any problems. That just left... "Now, which way did Cobalt go..." The teen tried to get a good look around, but all she could see was trees crowded together with a slim path leading through them. "...Probably deeper in," she muttered, and with no other viable option offered started making her way down the path with Impulse and Proto following behind.

As the teen walked along the path, the sounds started. The usual ambience of bird pokemon chirping and rodents chittering, but mixed with something else. The wind whistling around and through the trees, the rustle of branches and leaves shaking... And a bell chiming? Quiet at first, to the point that Sable initially couldn't tell what it was, but now there was very clearly a bell occasionally jingling. "Hm? What's..." As the trainer looked around to try and see what was causing it, a particularly loud jingle from behind her made her jump. "Yaaaaaaaah! Who's- ...There..." Whirling to face the source, it was... Impulse. Playing around with a little bell they found. "...Please don't do that.""Ehehehe, -zzt- sorry," the rotom apologized before floating over to show Sable their find. "But doesn't -zzt- it sound nice?""Yeah, when I can see what it is," she begrudgingly agreed, then sighed and gave the ghost possessing her pokedex a smile. "How about you hang onto it then? At least then I don't have to worry about if you wander off." Impulse grinned at the suggestion and let Sable help with attaching the bell to the pokedex like it was some sort of charm.

Now that Impulse had his shiny new bell firmly attached to the pokedex he was possessing, Sable looked around at the forest around them. "Okay, back to why we're here. Let's catch up to Cobalt and find whatever fell," she stated, more to help herself focus than anything else. The trainer shuddered a bit as a sudden chill filled the air and mist began rolling in. "Hm... Looks like this fog gets pretty dense, so he can't have skipped ahead too far..." Sure enough, soon the teen could hear some excited chirping up ahead that, sure, could have been another rookidee... But was probably Cobalt. "Alright, sooner we finish up the sooner we can get out of here," the teen encouraged as she hurried ahead, the rest of her pokemon following close behind.

As the path she followed wound around a hill there was more excited chirping from Cobalt as Sable suddenly came into view. "Yup, look-zzt- like that's him," Impulse confirmed as the trainer approached the rookidee. "Alright, the rest of us are here now. Just give me a little more warning next time, alright?" the teen asked as she held out a hand for the small bird pokemon to land on. Cobalt perched on her finger before peeping a "Ki!" up to his trainer. He stayed there about long enough for the teen to gently pet his head with a couple of fingers, but then hopped off to flutter about when Sable knelt down next to the small crater. "Okay then, let's see what we've got..." She could see something that wasn't like the dirt it was embedded in and tried to pull it out, but this rock was stuck in a lot more firmly than the odd, bronze-colored stone had been earlier. "H-hey Proto, could you help me dig this up?" she asked, and after a moment of hesitation the cybun hopped over and started digging around the rock to loosen it.
With Proto's help, eventually the rock in the crater came loose enough for Sable to pry it the rest of the way out. "Got it!" she proclaimed excitedly before falling back due to the stone suddenly popping loose. "...Ow. I'm okay..." Sitting back up, the teen tried to rub off some of the caked-on dirt to get a better look at exactly what the "it" she got was. The stone was mostly blue in color, with veins of some purple mineral that almost seemed to glow. "...I haven't seen anything like this either..." she muttered, which in all fairness wasn't all that surprising given her age but still, it was pretty clear it wasn't an ordinary rock. "Welp, -bzzt- might as well scan it," Impulse said as they floated over. While the device scanned, a sudden pinging noise from the pokedex startled the ghost possessing it. "Oh! There's a -zzt- match!" The rotom then floated over to give their trainer a bettter look at the result. "The people here call -zzrt- a wishing star, since the only way to get them -bzzt- by finding fallen meteors. They've also got -zzt- some weird power that reacts with... Uh..." Impulse trailed off as the entry got too technical, reading any more was likely to lead their trainer down some crazy wiki walk. "Er, short version is they -bzzrt- help pokemon do the dynamax and gigantamax things in this region.""Oh, awesome! Should probably try to find more of them then," the teen said as she tucked away the one that they had found so far.

As another cold wind blew through the area Sable shivered. "...Okay, we got what we were here for... Let's get outta here before anyone closes the gate," she insisted, trying to convince her pokemon and herself that she wanted to leave to not get in trouble with anyone. Totally not because this place was giving her the creeps. A faint howl echoed somewhere in the distance, perhaps in agreement, and the teen could swear the mists thickened at the call of whatever was making that sound. "...Cobalt. Proto. Come back for now. I don't want you two getting lost in this mist." Without giving either pokemon a chance to protest the teen unclipped their pokeballs and pointed them at the pokemon, and with a beam of red light the two were recalled. "Impluse, same goes for you," she said, but instead of pulling out the rotom's ball she just held open one side of her jacket. "-bzz- Right," the ghost said as they slid the pokedex they were possessing in a pocket on their trainer's jacket's interior. With her team accounted for, Sable let go of the side of her jacket and made her way back out of the forest, her pace about as quick as she dared with the mist so thick.
