Drew knew he was late, weeks, months even. He couldn't help that. He was here now. He pulled up in front of the Police Station, and parked his motorcycle. Walking in the revolving door, he realized that the station seemed a lot smaller than it had when he was was a preteen or young teen. He had never thought he'd be walking in here of his own free will, let alone wanting to. He walked up to the aged clerk, who immediately recognized him. "Hey, if it isn't our own Drew Bones." The clerk said with a smile. As a wave of shame started to wash over Drew, the clerk looked saddened and said, "Calm down Drew, Officer Fischer has told us all about how you've reformed and are flying straight." And Drew realized that the smile had been genuine. The clerk straightened and smiled again and said, "Let me guess, you'll be wanting Officer Fischer." Drew nodded and wanted patiently as the clerk placed a call to him.

Jeremy was generally in high demand and, when the clerk failed to indicate who it was that was waiting for him, he could only expect the worst. She hadn't said it was Myles, though, and if it was anyone else it usually meant that there was trouble.
He approached from his desk, hands in his pocket and lips pursed, bracing to be scolded by some punk he'd arrested who wanted to settle the score and--
He paused, blinked, and broke into a smile when he recognized Drew in front of the counter.
"Oh, hey," he greeted, holding out his hand to greet the young man. "Drew, it's good to see you. I was wondering if you were ever going to stop by. Everything okay?"

Drew swallowed. "I tried to be here sooner, Sir. I apologize. Unfortunately, my Grandmother, who, I finally made amends with Christmas before last, suddenly developed stomach cancer." He closed his eyes, holding the grief in. "Within weeks, she deteriorated from an independent older woman, to being wheelchair bound. A month after that, she was bed bound. She fought that stage for six months, but..." Drew couldn't say it. Instead, he moved one. "The funeral, and the lawyers and the estate and every thing, it was a mess. It took a few months to sort out." Drew didn't mention, that now he was the owner of a multimillion dollar business where his Grandfather had once worked as a doctor, or that his Grandmother had left enough money to pay for Med School - She wanted him to be a Doctor like his Grandfather. Just like his father wanted him in his business and his mother wanted him to be an Engineer. No, he wanted to be a Police Officer, among other things.

Jeremy watched for a moment and nodded, a look of quiet apology on his face as he listened. "Ah, I'm sorry to hear that, Kid."
It wasn't a line he was reciting; Jeremy genuinely seemed to care about the boy's situation. "Well, I can't blame you for trying to deal with all of that. Are you and your sister doing all right now?" he asked, crossing his arms across his chest and resting against the desk behind him. His brows were knit, sympathetic and searching; he didn't want to pry more than he needed to, but Jeremy couldn't help but care. As a police officer, it was his duty to do what was best for the civilians he helped, and he had a soft spot for the innocents who were in pain. He'd known Drew for a while; he was fond of him. Knowing that he was still in pain made him sympathetic.
He knew what it was like to lose someone.
He reached to to rest a hand on Drew's shoulder, giving a reassuring squeeze.

Officer Fischer's hand seemed to give Drew strength. And he smiled, - albeit a weak smile - apparently the officer still didn't know about Dani. "Thank you sir for asking. My sisters, Dria and Dani are alright. Thank you." As an after thought, he mentioned. "Mom's a little sick, physically. We thought it was just depression again.. but it seems she has some sort of bug. She's at the doctors right now." He frowned.

Jeremy blinked at this. "Sisters, plural? I think I only know about Dria--you'll have to tell me about Dani. But, I'm sorry to hear about your mother--I hope she gets better soon. Good news is, Destiny City's got a lot of resources and will always do their best." He gave Drew another little squeeze.
"...Sounds like you've had a lot going on, though. I'm proud of you for keeping up the good work. I guess...that's the best thing to do when things get hard--keep powering through. But then, I'm a workaholic, so," he scratched his chin with his free hand, seeming a little thoughtful.
"...If there's a better way to deal with things, I haven't figured it out. Yet."

Kyuseisha no Hikari Should we actually do the ride-along now?or is is it good? I do have one last thing I want to put in, but it's to be put in after the ride. smile Drew straightened. It was so easy to talk to Officer Fischer and he helped Drew feel better. (He better stop talking before starting talking about his alter-ego's problems!). "So, Sir, I was wondering if we might still take that Ride-Along, we discussed?" He had a faint grin on his face.

Jeremy seemed keen for any excuse to get out of the office and grinning. "Sure thing. I'll grab you a vest and we'll head out to my car."
He gestured for Drew to follow him and, while he was checking out a bulletproof vest for the young man, he made sure Drew filled out all of the paperwork he needed before they could go.
"I can't promise an interesting day," he'd said as he was helping Drew into the vest and getting it all buckled up. "But I can drive you around and give you the run down. The best days are the boring days," he explained. "...Means everyone was safe and following the law. But...we're not really so lucky, so it's best if you're ready for the bad stuff," he clicked the tongue on the roof of his mouth. "...You have to roll with it and hope for the best."
He took Drew to his car and let him get settled, giving him the run down of everything in the vehicle, how he began his day, how patrols went. It might not have been interesting in terms of technical speak, but Jeremy spoke animatedly and clearly loved his job; it wasn't long before he was off the lot, driving a route, narrating about the area, crime rate, interesting calls to the area. He didn't seem to have any problem talking, and gave ample opportunity to ask and answer questions as they drove.

The day may have been boring to Officer Fischer, but it was fantastically interesting to 19 year-old Drew. He listened intently, and asked plenty of good questions that showed that he was listening. It passed fairly quickly for Drew. Just as they were about to go in, Drew's civilian phone rang. It was Dria, who had gone to the doctor with their mother that morning, he could tell by the number that flashed. "Excuse me, sir, do you mind if I take this, it's my sister Dria- probably about my mother?"

Jeremy waved his hand nonchalantly and shook his head as he stepped out of the car and closed it up. “Go wild,” he insisted; he didn’t seem to take any issue with it and walked around to the other side of the car after he’d parked, resting against the warm metal. He crossed his arms over his chest and waited near to Drew, waiting for him to take the call. He gave him a little space for privacy but lingered nearby so he could help him with the vest when he was off the phone.

Drew nodded appreciatively and took the call. There were a few MMhmms and Uhuhs from him and then, suddenly his eyes bugged out in shock, and his jaw dropped, "What!?!?!?!?! You're kidding!?!?!? Is that even possible at this point??!??" There was a few seconds of silence, as the person on the other side continued. "Oh, my! That's crazy!" Drew, still in shock, was much quieter, when he next said, "Wow. Well alright see when I get home. Thanks, Dria. Love you." He hung up. He got out of the Police Car and stood next to Officer Fischer with an odd look on his face.

Jeremy glanced down at him, arms still folded across his chest. He had heard enough of the commotion to know that it must have been something important, and while he was patient for as long as he could he finally cracked. He began to undo the straps on the vest Drew had been given and noted, "Sounds like an important call," he chanced.
The vest slipped off of Drew and Jeremy held it over one arm. "...Is everyone all right?"

Drew hesitated for a minute still trying to process it. "Everyone is fine. Including my mom, there was no sickness." He frowned. "She's pregnant. With twins. At her age...."

Jeremy blinked, visibly surprised but ultimately it seemed like he calmed down. "Oh, well--if that's what she wanted, that's pretty good news, no? Twins--that's a rarity. I mean. Maybe not in your family, actually," he said, considering his sister. He scratched his chin but shook his head and, figuring he didn't know the family situation, instead said, "Well--don't worry about it, you know? Destiny City's got some of the best doctors around and no matter what age she is, I'm sure they'll take good care of it. You, ah--you gonna be okay, kid?"

Drew frowned. "She seemed quite surprised, I don't she planned this." He smiled. "But she and Dad decided to keep them. I agree Destiny City seems to have some of the best doctors. She should be fine. And so should the twins. Oh they got the genders and due date and everything. They are due in November, and they're both boys! Looks like I will finally have brothers!" He grinned.
