Prompt Quote: The holidays are the best time to eat. Everything always seems to taste better during this time of year, and when you think about your favorite holiday food, it is so easy to dwell on something wonderful that you remembered from childhood. It might be something you think of often, or something you haven’t thought of in years, but when the thought comes into your head, within the next half hour you find the recipe, be it online or folded up in one of your coat pockets. It seems like a wonderful idea to try and recreate your wonderful memories, doesn’t it? Toby was lounging by his family’s Christmas tree, playing some Pokemon (that he bought himself!) on his Switch (which he did not), when he found himself thinking about Christmases past, and cookies his grandmother used to make. It had, sadly, been a few years since he’d eaten them...and quite a while since he’d thought of them, even. But there he was, thinking about it. The moment passed then, and he went back to his game. After a while, he got up to have a snack. As he rummaged the pantry, he noticed there was a paper in there. That wasn’t normal, so he picked it up, and...there was a recipe there! For his grandma’s cookies, no less! It was strange, but he wasn’t about to pass that up. While considering what to do with it, he arrived at an idea: Baking wasn’t really something he wasn’t very good at, but... He pulled out his phone and sent a text: Hey Izzy! Wanna bake cookies with me? I’ve got an authentic Gramma’s Cookies recipe right here, just waiting to be baked!

Nah. Was Izzy's immediate response to the question on whether or not he wanted to bake cookies. He was so dang sick and tired of cookies and cakes and all sorts of sweets! Seriously, he lived in a bakery after all! He could ony take so many cookies before his body was deeply craving a salad and some protein. But he didn't exactly send those sentiments to Toby. Heck, he didn't even send the nah that was on the tip of his fingers. How could he when Toby was just.... So Toby? He could see it now, big, round, sad eyes looking at his phone in the utmost sadness because the one and only Izzy couldn't come over. Ignore the fact that the snow was coming down pretty hard. The very thought of Toby being sad because of him, because of something he didn't do nearly broke Izzy's over dramatic heart. So... ******** it. He got up from where he was hiding from the kids (under the dining room table), and scurried to his room to grab his coat and shoes. Sure. Need me to grab anything on my way over? By grab, he meant steal from the cafe instead. They really and truly were NOT going to go through 50lb of butter this week, that's for sure. Not with all this snow around.

That Izzy might not like the idea of baking, because he worked in a bakery did not actually occur to Toby. And it continued to not, since they were on!When asked about supplies, he mentioned a couple seasoning things that he truthfully wasn't exactly sure what they were, but figured somebody all up on their baking knowledge would. His parents might have had the stuff, but...the spice cabinet was a place of organizational horror. At least sugar, salt, and pepper were all easily found... He also asked for some butter. See you soon! While he waited for Izzy to turn up (it was snowing, but surely it wasn't that bad), he busied himself with securing the necessary dishes from around the kitchen. That, at least, was not anywhere near as bad as navigating the spices.

Yup, see you soon!. Luckily for him, the list was kinda small and kinda... common. So it didn't take long for him to dip out of the house, load up his bag with all the required things, then start heading out in the deep, freezing cold. He could already tell this was a one way trip, and was glad he told his mom he was spending the night at Toby's. She didn't exactly give a yes or no, but it was too light, he was halfway there by the time he got a text and promptly chose to ignore it. While they didn't exactly live far from one another, the storm that was whipping up was starting to get rough, and when he arrived on Toby's doorstep, ringing the doorbell at least 15 times, he was absolutely plastered with snow on one side. "Tooooobyyyyyyy." he whined, teeth chattering and head pressed against the door. "Let me iiiinnnnnn... Seriously, I just need a key to your house at this point.... I'mma dieeeee."

Toby’s parents were around, and thankfully weren’t making an incredibly loud ruckus in the dining room today, but they had ceded control of the kitchen to Toby for his activities...which let him carefully array all the ingredients he had available out on the counter. Just as he was finishing that, the was a bumping at the door, and a bit of whining. He laughed as he came over to the door and swung it open. He was struck with a flurry of snowflakes, and he was definitely not dressed for the outside. “Woah, cold. Yeah, c’mon in!” He stepped to the side to let his friend by. “I guess there’s no trouble keeping things refrigerated on over, huh?” He smirked playfully.

Izzy needed no further invitation besides Toby stepping right out of his way. Like a puppy, once out of the cold he shook off all the snow, making a really loud “brrrrrrrr!” Noise as he did so. And then he began to strip layer after layer after layer of clothing and dumping them into a neat pile off to the side until he was left in nothing but a pair of gym shorts and a kinda wrinkled Pokemon shirt. “I hope you don’t mind, but I’m totally staying the night tonight. There’s no way in heck I can make it back home without dying, and it’s not safe to drive so... Hey, guess you got an Izzy for a present! Sorry I forgot the bow.” Clothes aside, he promptly made his way to the kitchen and started to unpack all his gathered stuff for baking. Thing after thing was pulled out, along with things that weren’t really needed, like food coloring and extra frosting bags he stole from the shop. Even now his hands were trembling a little bit, and he rubbed them together to try to get them to warm up some how. “Ugh.... I’m so freaking cold... Tobyyyy I need a hug to make me warm.” If he were back home, he’d have a bunch of kids plopped up on him and he’d be hot immediately. But... Well, he only had a Toby. “The sooner my icy hands are warm, the sooner we can get to work!”

Toby took a step back from the sudden misting of snow that came off Izzy, and his eyebrows went up as there was progressively less clothing on his friend...until he was dressed like it was a summer morning. Toby, for his part, was wearing long pants, socks, and a soft hoodie over a t-shirt...considerably more. He smiled at the declaration of staying the night, and leaned to peer out the window next to the front door. "Yeaaah, I kinda didn't think about the snow earlier. Oops!" He followed after, though, and eyed the materials curiously. "Gosh, you look really cold," he agreed, and approached to oblige, with only the slightest of blushes. He wrapped his fuzzy hoodie arms around Izzy, and rubbed slowly. "Can't have you freezing before we start the cookies, ya know!"

"Don't you act all innocent! I know it was a nefarious plot to get me to be trapped in here with you. That's okay, I forgive you." The hug was nice and warm, and Izzy gave a quick glance at the doorway, before pulling Toby all the more closer. Geesh, he really was freezing... "But you know, for your crimes, you must be punished!" Immediately, he slipped those icey cold hands under Toby's shirt, pressing them flat against his back, and held him tightly in place. "Feel the freeze and repent!"

Toby was innocent, to a degree...He couldn't claim to be unhappy about Izzy being stuck there... So he really only just smiled in reply. That smile, however, was pretty short lived, as hands suddenly invaded his shirt, and he yelped, squirming away reflexively. "Gah! So cold!" he whined, and scooped up a (clean) kitchen towel which he used to seize one of Izzy's hands and start rubbing it vigorously. "Way too cold..."

“Don’t whine, you brought that on yourself!” Despite him saying that, Izzy didn’t try to put his hands back on Toby. Even if he wanted to, Toby caught them too fast and tried to warm them up. Well, one of them anyway. “You’re not going to warm up the other one?” Since it was still free, he reached, up, pressing his cold palm to his friend’s cheek. “Your face is plenty hot enough to warm my hand. I expect it to be pretty red in just a moment.”

"Maybe," he allowed, and kept rubbing the hand. He fully intended to let it go and grab the other one in a moment...but then it ended up on his face and, true to form, Izzy was exactly right. His face practically burned. At the very least, it was warm and quite red. "W-well," he managed, taking a breath to recover. "It's efficiency! See?" He tossed the kitchen towel aside, and lifted the hand to his other cheek, putting his hands on each of Izzy's. He grinned. "Cool my face and heat your hands! Good plan!" He laughed and watched the reaction curiously. Coincidentally, as he did that, Toby's dad came walking into the kitchen. He opened his mouth to say something, then spotted the two... like that. He stopped in his tracks and closed his mouth. He made a very slight "huh" sound before quietly turning to leave again.

It was a fantastic feeling to know he was right! Of course he was right! He almost always was! And over all, Toby was easy to read when it came to what made him blush. It made him wonder if Toby actually liked him or not. That thought got even questionable when the boy took his hand and cupped his cheeks on his own. “Good plan indeed... But you know what else is cold?” Izzy leaned in closer and closer, eyes closing slightly... He had a thought that danced around in his head, words right on the tip of his tongue, something he had been debating for a while now.. But he stopped when he saw Toby’s dad behind his friend, and took that moment to squeeze Toby’s cheeks more and more. “Mr. Yates! How did you manage to have such a cute boy?!” As loud and obnoxious as ever, he called after his dad, turning Toby’s head around to face that retreating back. “He’s too sweet, Someone’s gonna gobble him up one day!” Slipping his hands from those warm cheeks, he moved them to the top of his head, ruffling that soft, blonde hair. “You’re so very lucky you got me to protect him, right?”

Toby's eyes got wider, and his face managed to redden a bit, but he didn't pull away. Definitely not. He missed his dad's sound, so Izzy calling out to him was pretty surprising. It was also surprising to Mr. Yates, who stopped and turned to look back. Toby, of course, allowed himself to be pulled around, though his face got much more red as he was put on display for his dad, and laughed in spite of himself as his hair was ruffled. Mr. Yates laughed as well and shook his head. "Very lucky indeed," he said. "I'll leave you boys to your...baking."

“Yeah! We’ll make it nice and sweet, leave it to us!” With dad heading out again, Izzy released Toby and instead actually went about unpacking the ingredients. ... He’d have plenty of time to get all up in Toby’s space again later. “Now, pull yourself together, we got baking to do!”

It was when Izzy went off to get the ingredients sorted that Toby realized his heart was racing. He stood there a few moments, disappointed that they hadn't kissed...but maybe over some cookies. Yeah! He nodded and said, "Right, yeah, sooner we make 'em, sooner we can eat them!" As he approached, his heart was still beating quick, and his face was still red, but he could focus on the recipe. Mostly. He was probably going to be bumping into Izzy more than strictly necessary throughout the process.
