"Turffield Town" Connecting Land Routes: Galar Mine, Hulbury
XXxx xxXX
Turffield is known as a "town nestled within the nurturing bowl of our many terraced farming fields". It is a quaint little farm town with strange stone structures and rich soil used for growing crops and herding the local wooloo with yamper and boltund. The town is known to frequently get together in homemade stalls to sell their hand crafted wares in a local farmers market, though the town draws in many customers from outside as well. Their primary exports are farm fresh berries, jams, and dairy products.

✧✧【It seemed Eveline was on the same train of thought as she nodded, ”Well, perhaps. I’d rather not rely on just strong Pokemon alone to get uz through zee gyms, but it’d be best to have you on standby just in case,” she explained, not to mention the Zacian was probably just a touch too strong for her to be able to properly handle in battle right now, ”Still, we might want to get in some practice first before sending you in to play with zee big boys, oui?” She had no idea of what exactly this Pokemon in particular was capable of, it’d probably be best to test her capabilities against wild Pokemon first to get a better feel for her abilities first… Not that Eveline really wanted to have to use the Zacian for gym battles if it could be helped, but Aura might become a bit of a necessity as they progressed further into the gym challenge, especially for the later ones since she was certain Hammerlocke had a Dragon-type gym in particular.”Understood, I am at your beck and call whenever my services are needed,”the disguised wolf affirmed with a soft smile and a respectful dip of her head, though she was a touch disappointed that she’d have to be relegated to the sidelines for now. Still, perhaps she might get her chance at being able to participate in training and battles when they came, or at least when Eveline felt the time was right.
Upon stepping out of the mine on the other side, the first thing the pair were greeted with were the series of branched paths leading down the sloping road before them, tall fields of golden grass surrounded by short stone fences and odd stone structures littered all around. In fact, the town itself seemed to be settled into the ‘bowl’ of the valley in between the rolling hills and farmland that appeared to cover the surrounding areas, and in the distance the faint baas of Wooloo herds could be made out and the barks of more of those short-legged little dogs like the one Sonia had back at the lab as she could catch sight of them dashing around in the tall grass. Yampers, if she recalled the name correctly. It definitely had a very rustic feel to it, very much like Wedgehurst and Postwick because of the abundant rural area surrounding the place. Still, the odd standing stones scattered about gave it an air of mysticism… Upon closer look, she could see there were odd runes carved into them, symbols that… seemed a lot like the ones she had seen on the blade of that broken sword she’d used to… she supposed to ‘summon’ the Zacian. Perhaps they held some sort of significance, though what it was exactly she wasn’t sure…
Sure enough, the stadium wasn’t all that hard to spot either as it was nestled right in the center of town, the main path lead right up to the doors if they just walked right down without taking any of the branching trails. As the pair began to make their way down the sloping road towards Turffield, a pair of men leaning up against one of the stone fences caught sight of them and waved them over. They were both dressed in what could be described as typical farmer clothes, plaid shirts, thick overalls stained dark with dirt and plastered with scatters pieces of straw, and thick worker’s boots suited for doing hard work out in the fields. Only one of them wore a hat, though, a sturdy looking tan Stetson rather than a straw hat from the looks of it. The man with the hat tipped it in greeting as the two women approached,”Well howdy there, ladies. Don’t often see folks like you come ‘round these parts, what brings y’all here to our own lil’ corner o’ Galar?”
The other man, upon noticing the numerous Pokeballs Eveline had on her belt, cracked a grin as he nudged his partner.”I reckon that one’s a challenger, Nate,”he pretty much answered his friend’s question before she could as he nodded to them,”Most folks come here to shop at the farmer’s market or take a look at the famous geoglyph up on the hillside there.”As he gestured off towards the general direction of where it was, Aura’s eyes widened in wonder as she tilted her head curiously.”Geoglyph?”She wasn't entirely certain of what that was, but from how they talked about it it was apparently a pretty big draw for most people who happened to venture out to these parts. That alone got her immediately intrigued, maybe she and Eveline could take a look for themselves while they were here for the gym. Nate simply chuckled, readjusting his hat and folding his arms across his chest.”Heh, ya must be pretty new to Galar, missy, the Turffield geoglyph’s a pretty famous landmark 'round here. It’s basically this big ol’ picture up on the hill that’s been there for Arceus knows how long,”he explained with a shrug,”Lotsa people have different ideas o’ what it might mean, others just think it’s real neat, y’know? Y’all should check it out yourselves if yer gonna be in town for a bit.”
”We certainly will,” Eveline said with a grin in return. She hadn’t exactly planned to really stay long after they took on the gym, but… that geoglyph could very well be worth at least taking a peek at. That and it probably wouldn’t hurt to do a bit more training here before moving on to Hulbury for some of her party that were still lagging behind, there was no telling how much stronger the wild Pokemon might be there so it'd be best to prepare ahead of time.”But anyways, Nate n’ I are just on break after workin’ the fields all mornin’. Problem is aside from the market, the gym, n’ the geoglyph, there ain’t a whole lot to do ‘round here for entertainment,”the other man whose name she had yet to learn piped up again, reaching to grab a Pokeball from his belt,”Which is why we like to get gym challengers comin’ through sometimes, get to meet n’ battle all kinds o’ interestin’ folks that way. So, how does a battle with me n’ my buddy here sound to ya, miss?”Tossing the ball forward, the man called out his Machop just as his friend sent forth his own Pokemon, a Rockruff, both of which seemed excited and determined at the idea of a battle. Well, she supposed it wouldn’t hurt to get in a bit of training before they went straight to the gym. ”I don’t see why not,” she said, grabbing a couple of Pokeballs and tossing out Gimlet and Zinfandel, this would definitely be a perfect opportunity to strengthen them a bit more. A sharp grin crossed the Perrserker’s face at getting in on some combat action at last, his metal claws springing out eagerly as he faced down the Rockruff while Zinfandel wasted no time eyeing up the Machop, already knowing which one would be an easier target for her.】✧✧

✧✧【Eveline’s Pokemon clearly had the advantage as Aura watched the battle with intrigue from the sidelines, being both somewhat stronger than their opponents in addition to having clear type advantages. The Zacian noted how different the pair of Pokémon’s battling styles were, with Gimlet preferring to get right up close and personal as he smashed his opponents with his hard head and raked them with his claws while Zinfandel took a more cautious approach, swooping in for a flyby attack when she saw an opening and using her aerial position to her advantage. Of course their foes were hardly pushovers either, but while Gimlet managed to roll over his opponents easily enough while taking very little damage in return the Corvisquire wasn’t so lucky as her opponents gradually chipped away at her one by one even as she dealt severe damage and knocked them out. Eventually Eveline had to withdraw her and send in Armagnac to finish off Dirk’s Heracross, not wanting to risk her being knocked out even though she would’ve likely been able to knock it out before it could get a hit in.
”Well dang, yer actually not half bad, miss! Think y’all will definitely give Milo a run for his money,”Dirk said with a light laugh, not at all minding how one-sided the battle had been as he returned his fainted Heracross. ”Thanks, you two weren’t bad either,” Eveline reciprocated the praise earnestly while she recalled her Scyther, as competitive as she could be she knew the values of good sportsmanship. Especially since these two had put up a pretty decent challenge for them. Nate tipped his hat to her again respectfully, gesturing in the direction of the gym.”Y’know, Milo likes goin’ easy on the weaker trainers n’ give ‘em a fightin’ chance, is why he chose to be the first gym leader when he was inducted into the league,”he explained,”Still it’s nice when a challenger comes along that gives him the chance to go all out, doesn’t happen as often as ya might think.”
It was certainly an interesting reason for someone to want to take on such a position… Eveline certainly hoped he wouldn’t decide to go easy on her, though if he did she certainly wouldn’t have any qualms about decimating him in return. Of course she probably shouldn’t expect much of a challenge anyways from the first gym leader, though she couldn’t help but get her hopes up a little. ”Heh, well I’d certainly hope he’ll give us a good fight because we’re certainly planning to bring the heat,” she remarked with a cheeky grin, holding a hand up to wave farewell to the pair, ”In fact we should probably head right on to the gym after stopping by the Pokecenter, so if you gentlemen would excuse us.” The pair of farmhands nodded in return, already moving to stand up from where they’d been leaning against the fence as they tucked their Pokeballs away.”Sure thing, in fact we should probably stop there ourselves before headin’ back to work, mind if we walk with y’all there?”】✧✧

✧✧【With encouragement from Aura, Eveline supposed it wouldn’t hurt to have company for a little bit, though the Pokemon Center was only about a stone’s throw away from where they were. A short trip later and after getting her Pokemon healed up, they bid farewell to the pair of farmers as they left to get back to their duties. In the meantime, Eveline decided to check out the small mini Pokemart built into the Pokecenter itself to see if there were any useful items they could nab that could help with their upcoming gym challenges while the Zacian lingered behind to chat with Nurse Joy, apparently having taken an interest in how the healing machines they used worked. After a bit of browsing, she settled on a white headband with blue and red markings on it that she recognized as a Choice Band, along with a parcel of Ganlon berries and a flute made of blue glass that apparently helped to rouse sleeping Pokemon when played.
As she tucked away her newly bought items into her bag, a sudden call of”Heya!from behind her nearly made her jump out of her skin. Taking a deep breath to curb her frustration so she wouldn’t immediately turn around and sock whoever it was that had approached her in the face, Eveline plastered a smile on as she made an about-face and did a double-take upon seeing it was the same man she’d run into back at the Budew Drop who’d given her the letter from the chairman. ”Oh, it’s you… again?” she said, unable to help the hint of uncertainty in her tone, ”Fancy meeting you here, if I didn’t know better I would’ve thought you were following me. So what is it?” The man nodded with that same characteristic grin on his face.”Yup, it’s me! I, uh, realized sometime after I delivered that letter that I’d forgotten to give ya something else, so here,”as he spoke, sounding somewhat sheepish at admitting his slip-up, he pulled out what looked like a white wristband with bands of blue and pink-ish red along its top and bottom. An X-shaped insignia was emblazoned in the center of the band on one side, yet again another symbol she wasn’t at all familiar with, and there was a black screen set into it on the other side.”We used one of the extra stars you’d sent in to fashion this Dynamax Band for ya, courtesy of Macro Cosmos and the chairman himself. You’ll definitely need it for taking on the Galar league,”he explained as she accepted the wristband from him and slipped it onto her right arm,”What it’ll do is allow ya to Dynamax your Pokemon whenever you’re in the vicinity of a power spot! And I’ll tell ya right now, pretty much all of Galar’s gyms are built right on top of power spots, so expect to see a lot of Dynamaxing being used by the gym leaders too!”
Oh? Well THAT would certainly be interesting, now that she’d gotten to catch a glimpse of what Dynamaxing entailed while battling in those dens during the star hunt. And she supposed that if she was going to be utilizing such a thing during the gym battles, it’d make sense for the leaders themselves to use Dynamaxing as well to get the upper hand over their challengers. She had to wonder how it might look for Dynamaxed Pokemon to actually battle one another… though she supposed they’d just as well find out for themselves soon enough. Thanking the courier as he waved goodbye and ran off on his way, Eveline waved Aura over so they could get going as well. ”Come on, it’s about time we head for the gym,” she called, the Zacian bowing politely to Nurse Joy as she bid her farewell before briskly walking over.”Of course,”she agreed, falling in line with her trainer as they walked out of the Pokemon Center,”Where would you like me to be while you’re battling the gym leader?”
Right… Eveline wasn’t sure if they might allow Aura to accompany her onto the field itself since she was still disguised as a human and wasn’t a gym challenger. Maybe she could talk them into allowing the Zacian to accompany her but watch on the sidelines, if not she might have to just wait outside or she’d have to be returned into her Pokeball for the time being if all else failed. ”Not sure, I suppose wherever as long as it’s not too close to the battlefield if they’ll allow you to go in with me,” she suggested, narrowing her eyes thoughtfully, ”If there’s going to be Dynamaxing involved, I’d rather you be out of the way of any crossfire or stray attacks just in case. Arceus knows how crazy it might get in there…” Better to be safe than sorry, right?】✧✧

✧✧【Aura nodded in understanding, unable to help but feel a growing excitement at possibly witnessing what a battle against one of these gym leaders would be like firsthand. Eveline certainly seemed quite confident as they strolled up to the stadium and entered, the ‘woosh’ of the sliding glass doors opening immediately drawing the attention of other people in the room as they turned to watch the pair coming in. Already there were murmurs and looks of excited admiration from the bystanders, questions about them being new gym challengers and making bets on who would win the battle floating around. Thankfully they were saved from having to deal with the peanut gallery as the woman at the nearby registration desk waved them over.”Hello and welcome to the Turffield Gym Stadium! Are you both gym challengers? If so, have you registered your numbers yet?”she asked, tapping away at the little computer on the counter.
”No I haven’t, and I’ll be taking on the gym here,” Eveline said, giving Aura a sidelong glance before looking back to the woman, ”She’s just here as a spectator, but she’s with me. Would she be allowed to accompany me inside while I battle the gym leader?” The worker gave her an odd look, chewing on her upper lip as her fingers tapped away at the keys. Apparently that wasn’t a common question that was often asked, and she seemed to be racking her brain for information while she was likely looking through the rules.”Ah, well… I mean there’s technically no rule explicitly stating that she can’t. Though I’d say that the only thing is that she can’t be out on the pitch while the battle is going on,”she explained, hoping that would be a good enough explanation,”What number would you like for your gym uniform and what is your clothing size?”Huh… Maybe she should’ve spent more time actually researching how they did gym battles here, it definitely seemed like things worked a fair bit differently here in Galar compared to other regions. Definitely more stipulations involved that sounded… more than a bit unnecessary to someone coming from a region where uniforms and sponsorships weren’t mandatory to take on the gym challenge. But whatever, she supposed she could just humor them and their customs for now. ”Let’s go with… eighty-four, size is large,” she suggested after taking a moment to think it over.
The woman nodded, clicking several more keys on the keyboard before gesturing off towards the other side of the room.”Certainly, we’ll have that out for you right away. Changing rooms are over there, it’s customary to change into your uniform whenever you enter a stadium for a gym challenge,”she spoke, standing up and disappearing through the door leading into what was supposedly a backroom of sorts where they stored the uniforms. A minute or two later, the woman reemerged with a big black cardboard box in her hands that looked a lot like a shoebox, thrusting it into Eveline’s hands.”Here you are. Feel free to head into the stadium whenever after you change, Milo will be waiting for you inside.”Great, well now that that whole deal was all settled, she supposed she should get ready. Directing Aura to wait by the entrance to the stadium, Eveline slipped into the changing room to don her new gym uniform. It was a simple little outfit, a black and white striped shirt with the number ‘084’ embroidered on the backside of it with a pair of black striped short shorts to match. It probably wasn’t the standard, since this would definitely leave her midriff pretty exposed, but she’d hardly complain about the choice of fashion as long as it’d work for the purpose she’d need it for.
”That certainly is a very… ‘interesting’ looking uniform,”Aura remarked as she eyed her trainer’s new outfit curiously, a bit off-put by how much skin it was showing off,”Did they not have anything that would be a bit more, um… modest?”Eveline simply shrugged, not really minding it as much as her companion seemed to. ”Eh, I’d be willing to just take it for now. It’s not like I’ll be wearing it all the time,” she casually dismissed the question, ”Are you ready to head inside?” Averting her gaze to meet her trainer’s bright green eyes, the Zacian hummed and nodded in affirmation, following close after the redhead as they stepped past the door and through the tunnel entrance. Just beyond they could see the vast green pitch of the stadium battlefield, the cheering of the massive crowds up in the grandstands all around growing louder and louder the closer they got. ”Wait here,” Eveline directed as they neared the end, at least here Aura should be able to have a decent enough view of the battle without being put in any danger. The Zacian nodded, lingering behind at the mouth of the tunnel as her trainer proceeded forward. As Eveline set foot onto the battlefield turf, the noise of the spectators reached a fever pitch as an announcer’s voice blared over the PA system.”And coming out onto the field now is our latest new contestant taking on the Gym League! Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls! Put your hands together and give a warm Galar welcome for our challenger, Lucia Cross!”
As much as she wasn’t too big of a fan of having so much attention directed at her, Eveline couldn’t help but feel a burst of eager excitement well up in her as she walked across the pitch towards the battlefield laid out in the center. And sure enough, the man of the hour himself was there waiting for her, smiling brightly as he waved in greeting. Well, Eveline could certainly say that while she hadn’t had any expectations of what this ‘Milo’ guy looked like, this was definitely far from what she imagined. He was a tall, absolute boulder of a man dressed all in green and white with the number ‘831’ on his own gym uniform, quite fitting considering what type this gym was themed after. The soft, round baby face Milo had certainly didn’t match his broad shoulders and thickly muscled arms and legs, though strangely enough it wasn’t all that off putting at all as if it seemed to fit his character to a T in an odd way.”Well howdy! You’re that new challenger that’s being sponsored by Chairman Rose, yeah? I can certainly say that in itself is quite an astonishing feat!”he remarked, stepping forward to meet her with that ever-present warm smile on his rounded face,”You don’t look like you’re from Galar, we don’t often get a lot of foreign gym challengers coming through here so I’m already looking forward to seeing what you’ve got!”
Eveline quirked a brow at that, but all things considered it was probably no surprise that a lot of people who took on the gym challenge in Galar were, well, mostly local residents of the region. Though she had to wonder just how many people from other regions had tried taking on the league here before, especially with how insular and off the beaten path this region was in particular. ”Right back at you~ Hope you're ready to bring your best because I can assure you we absolutely will,” she remarked back with a wink and a smirk, thumbing Tonic’s Pokeball on her belt as she prepared to unleash the Torracat onto the field. Noticing this, Milo grinned, tossing up his first Pokeball and catching it easily in his hand.”Confident, are we? Heh, well that’s hardly a bad attitude to have. My gym’s the first one people come to in the league, so I try to make the battles as challenging as I can while still keeping things fair,”he said, moving to step back and take up his position across from her as she followed suit,”But don’t think we’ll bend that easily, you’re in for a real doozy of a battle! Let’s go, Gossifleur!”With that, he sent forth his first Pokemon, a plant-like Pokemon with a large yellow flower atop its cream-colored head and red growths surrounding it that looked like hair, complete with a green stem-like body.
”Right, you’re up, Tonic!” Eveline commanded, sending forth the black and red fiery cat onto the field, ”Let’s blaze right through the competition, yes?” A wicked grin crossed the Torracat’s face as she caught sight of the very flammable looking Grass-type on the field across the way, her bell flaring a bright red with pent up energy and heat in anticipation of the fight to come.”Yer goddamn right we will!”she agreed eagerly, tail lashing as she eyed down their current foe, an almost predatory glint in her sharp gaze as she could sense the Gossifleur already starting to feel a bit nervous at her presence,”Heh, no worries lil’ guy… This’ll only hurt for a few seconds, if yer lucky! Hehehe~”】✧✧

✧✧【As expected, the Gossifleur had virtually no chance at all as it immediately fell to Tonic’s devastating Flamethrower, thoroughly knocked down and out before it had a chance to even really do anything. To Milo, that definitely seemed to send the clear message that he’d need to bring out the big guns for this as he sent out his Eldegoss next, wasting no time as the band on his wrist began to glow with an all-too-familiar red light as he held out its Pokeball, returning it briefly as the capsule seemed to suddenly expand as he tossed it behind him. Glowing energy surrounded the Eldegoss as it instantly grew to a monstrous size, letting out a low, loud cry that seemed to shake the entirety of the battlefield. Dynamaxing… This definitely felt a lot like those fights against those giant Pokemon in those dens, but this time there’d be no other trainers pitching in to chip away at its health.
Upon noticing her own Dynamax band glowing, Eveline figured she’d level the playing field a bit as she mirrored Milo’s gestures, watching in awe as the Torracat grew exponentially in size until the not-so-little fire cat was about on par with their opponent. Turns out that when Pokemon Dynamaxed, their attacks did too as Tonic unleashed a great torrent of flames at the Eldegoss, the heat of the attack so intense that even the sun seemed to brighten the battlefield a bit more. Eveline stood her ground, trying not to fall over as the power of the enormous-sized attacks exchanged between the two Dynamaxed Pokemon seemed to rattle and shake the whole battlefield. This definitely felt very unsafe to be right in close proximity of, but Milo hardly seemed fazed as he commanded his Pokemon to retaliate. Even the audience’s cheering seemed to heighten as they watched the pair of giant Pokemon face off, until Tonic got off another supercharged blast of fire that smashed into the Eldegoss and finished it off for good. With a loud defeated cry as the energy inside of it seemed to escape it in a huge explosion, the Grass-type shrunk back down to size as it keeled over and fainted as it was returned back into its ball. Shortly after victory had been called for her, Tonic also shrunk back down to her normal size, the Torracat grinning widely.”Oh hell yeah! I can definitely get used to that whole goin’ Godzilla thing, never had that much fun in a fight up until now!”she exclaimed, feeling quite proud to have beaten her foes so handily and hardly even a scratch on her. She wasn’t entirely sure of what it was that had caused her to grow so large aside from that it had to do with that thing on Eveline’s wrist, but if this was going to be a regular thing for gyms around here she could definitely get used to it!
”You certainly were marvelous out there, mon ami,” Eveline praised, reaching down to ruffle the Torracat’s ears with a smile before returning her for now, turning to walk towards the center of the field to meet Milo.”Heh, well I know I said I liked to keep the fights here challenging, but you definitely came pretty prepared, you absolutely plowed right through us!”he said with a chuckle, holding a hand out towards her,”But a win’s a win, so congratulations on earning yourself the Grass badge!”With a grin, the redhead returned the gesture, giving the giant man a hearty handshake as he handed over the badge to her, as well as a couple of HMs and a TM for Thunder Wave. ”You weren’t so bad yourself,” she returned easily. It was probably a good strategy for him to use Dynamax, otherwise Tonic would’ve just as easily taken out his Eldegoss as well. Which made her wonder… just how much bulkier and more powerful were Dynamaxed Pokemon compared to their regular forms? Maybe she should consider doing some research later on… maybe there was a reason why Professor Magnolia apparently had so many books about the phenomenon in her lab.
”That was absolutely amazing! Seeing a pair of giant Pokemon battling each other certainly has to be seen to be believed,”Aura remarked as Eveline approached where she’d been standing by, thoroughly in awe after watching the battle unfold from her spectating spot. ”You can say that again, though considering that there’s power spots in every gym here I’m certain this will be a regular thing as we keep gathering more badges,” she said, beckoning for the Zacian to follow, ”Come on, after I change out of this we can go and see what that geoglyph those guys mentioned earlier is all about before we leave.” She chuckled at the look of absolute childish glee that crossed the disguised wolf’s face at that.”Oh can we? Truly?”she asked, clasping her hands together in sheer delight.
”Hey, I said we’d check it out before we leave, so we will,” Eveline remarked with a shrug, directing the Zacian to wait out in the stadium’s lobby while she went to the changing rooms. One outfit swap later, the redhead smoothed out her shirt and pulled her leather jacket in a bit closer before heading back out to meet with Aura, waving her over as they exited out of the stadium and headed back up the sloping path to look for the branching trail leading up to where Turffield’s famous geoglyph supposedly was. On the way, however, Eveline couldn’t help looking over the various market stalls set up along the various trails, selling a variety of goods from farm fresh berries and homemade jams to handmade clothing, jewelry, incenses, and other items that were especially good for Pokemon. Perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to pick up some extra stuff for the road, Arceus knows she could use more items to help strengthen her Pokemon for the rest of the gyms later down the line. ”But… I suppose we could do a bit of shopping first.”】✧✧

✧✧【One short shopping spree later, Eveline ended up with a pretty veritable haul of items. She’d come across one stall in particular selling these new devices used to teach certain moves to Pokemon called Technical Records, apparently they functioned quite similarly to TMs but were only good for one use rather than being reusable. She ended up buying a few choice ones that looked like they could come in handy, as well as an EXP Share, a couple of Heart Scales, and an apparent new Pokeball called a ‘Tag Ball’ that had begun circulating in the market recently from a couple other stalls she stopped by along the way. Supposedly these special balls allowed Pokemon to use particular items that were typically only usable by particular species, such as a Thick Club or a Light Ball… That could certainly come in handy for a few of her Pokemon in particular since she did happen to have a couple such items in her inventory.
All the while, Aura flitted about between stalls, more interested in the fresh foods and homemade delicacies. Eveline found her at one that she seemed to favor a lot, where a kindly-looking old farmer couple were selling jars of various jams, jellies, and preserves they had made and were even giving out small pieces of fresh cut bread to customers so they could sample the numerous flavors. ”Come on, we’ll be here all day if you try to taste all of them,” she admonished as she had to drag the Zacian away from the stall, the wolf whining as she resisted but ultimately relented with the woman’s insistence.”Ah… Well, I suppose we do have places to be,”she said, popping in the cubed piece of bread slathered heavily with fresh blueberry jam she’d managed to snatch up into her mouth and humming in approval at the rich, fruity flavor,”Onwards to the geoglyph, then?”
”Of course, it’s just up that way,” the woman nodded, gesturing over towards where the pair of farmhands they’d run into earlier had pointed them to. As they walked up the path to the west of town where the geoglyph supposedly was, Eveline couldn’t help but gaze curiously at the different standing stones they passed by that seemed to be littered all over town and the odd symbols each one had carved into it. She had to wonder if maybe there was some hidden meaning behind them, or if they were just there for decoration… Not that she really had any means of being able to decipher them on hand since they weren’t ones she recognized, perhaps it was some kind of ancient Galarian language? Perhaps she could consider doing more research into that sometime if she could find the right resources, maybe some digging around through some books or online could turn up something.
Passing through a couple more standing stones just at the top of the path, Eveline’s eyes widened in surprise and amazement at the odd piece of… artwork(?) that stood before them. There, carved out on a hillside in the near distance, was an absolutely massive picture representing what looked like some kind of gigantic humanoid-like creature next to a swirling pattern with jagged lines pointing at different angles towards the ground where smaller carvings of what looked like people and Pokemon below the enormous figure that took up most of the space of the picture. It was… truly a sight to behold, Eveline found herself at a loss of words, but her Zacian compatriot was willing to do it for her.”What an incredibly intriguing piece of art this is… And it still looks so clear, you’d think it would’ve at least started to wear away after so long,”she remarked, hand resting against her chin in thought. She did bring up an interesting point… the geoglyph itself didn’t seem to show any signs of weathering or wearing away for Arceus knows how long it’s been here, odd since this area was a place rife with farmland and you’d assume that rainy weather was quite commonplace around here… Though judging from its position on the sloping hillside, perhaps it was made in a way using the landscape around it that it wouldn’t wear away so easily under regular rainfall, which begged the question of just how old this thing actually was.
”Do you think it means anything in particular?”the Zacian asked, turning her curious gaze to her trainer, eyeing her intently as if trying to read her thoughts. She supposed the motif of the picture could be interpreted differently depending on the viewer, but one thing in particular stuck out to Eveline that seemed pretty obvious right off the bat. ”That giant creature in the center, I would assume that it’s meant to represent a Pokemon of some kind… It’s possible this might actually be representing Dynamaxing in some form,” she explained, pulling out her Rotom phone and giving it a short command to snap a photo of the geoglyph for future reference which the sentient device was happy to oblige as it got a few good shots, ”I’m certainly no expert on this sort of stuff, but… that seems to make zee most sense to me.” The Zacian’s eyes brightened as she turned her focus back to the enormous carving, nodding in eager agreement.”Yes… Yes! That actually does make sense in that kind of context, especially after seeing what Dynamaxing is capable of in battle firsthand.”Aura felt a strange feeling stirring in the back of her mind as she glanced over the geoglyph once more with Eveline’s explanation in mind, she felt like something about this was very familiar… But it felt like she was still missing certain pieces of the puzzle, she could distantly recall bits of those memories clinging to her subconscious but nothing was coming clearly to her yet.
”You know, Samuel actually was researching into the phenomenon of Dynamaxing during his time here in Galar,”Lambrusco suddenly spoke up, drawing Eveline and Aura’s attentions as the Delphox materialized out of his Pokeball next to them, gazing at the gigantic picture on the hill with a wistful expression,”I had read a particular tidbit in his notes that seemed interesting. Supposedly Dynamaxing and even Gigantamaxing came about thousands of years ago, when a kind of catastrophic event occurred that nearly destroyed the Galar region in the process known as…”
”The Darkest Day…”the Zacian finished in a soft voice, her clear blue eyes misting over as flashes of familiar scenes played out in her mind. A gigantic black storm that blotted out the sun and swathed the land in darkness… Enormous Pokemon roaming and rampaging across the Galar region, destroying whole towns and kingdoms in their wake… A blinding red light… The wolf started as she suddenly blinked back to reality when a light touch rested on her shoulder, shaking her head before turning her attention back to Eveline and the Delphox who were giving her quizzical looks. ”Did that trigger any memories for you, Aura? You kind of zoned out for a bit there,” the redhead inquired curiously, carefully withdrawing her hand as she eyed the disguised wolf intently. That look she’d had on her face... It seemed like a ‘thousand yard stare’ kind of look much like a soldier recalling the horrors and trauma of the battles they’d fought.
”I… Yes… The Darkest Day… I…”the Zacian stumbled over her words as she averted her eyes to the ground, biting her lip anxiously as she tried to piece together her thoughts coherently but found it hard to grasp exactly what she wanted to say. Eveline exchanged a look with Lambrusco, who seemed more curious to know who exactly this woman accompanying his trainer was supposed to be, then moved to wrap an arm around the Zacian’s shoulders and began to gently guide her back down the path as she slipped her Rotom phone back into her pocket with her free hand. ”It’s alright, we can talk about it on zee way to Hulbury,” she assured, figuring it was probably about time that they got going anyways. Lambrusco nodded in agreement, falling in to walk beside the pair. He caught Eveline’s gaze again, the Delphox briefly narrowing his telepathic communication to speak to just her for a moment.”And I suppose you could also explain who this new companion of yours is on the way as well, Eve?”Right… She supposed it was probably about time to really start getting Aura acquainted with the rest of her team if they were going to be traveling together like this. Giving a nod to the Delphox in return, she already knew she’d have some explaining to do about why they now had an apparently legendary Pokemon accompanying them.】✧✧
