Life was too quiet for Sinmara's taste. She'd been waiting so long for something that never seemed to come and she knew enough about the past, saw enough of it, to have her doubts.. but why would the Goddess ask for their loyalty and then leave? What could a deity gain from such bizarre action? If she didn't come back soon, her opportunity would be lost.. it wasn't like the Firekin seemed to need to adjust much. If any arguments had happened over it, Sinmara had never heard.

Maybe if she could peer farther into the future, she would be satisfied.. but she wasn't very imaginative. Not in a way that facilitated future-sight, though it made the visions that did come to her easy to identify.

While she waited, she occupied herself with training. Her grandmother would be impressed by her when she did arrive. With Kusudi gone, Veldbrand would be an easy eye-catcher but Sinmara and her sisters would surely put up a fight. Standing out in the Firekin was no small job but they had time, or so it seemed.

With a lazy stretch, Ashwathi had begun her day with a small trot around the area, warming up her muscles. She was certain that some would say she was 'just' a huntress, but the lioness had interest in potentially changing her future. She needed to be in good shape without alerting too many eyes, and so she thrust herself into any hunting party that would take her. It probably meant she assisted in hunting more often than some could say was her fair share, but she was a pleasant conversationalist and a team player when taking down prey.

She never admitted that her minor-if-accurate future sight helped her become such a skilled hunter.

Curiosity drove her to the training area, curious to see who was doing what this time of day. Suffice to say, she wasn't terribly surprised to see her sister there, but she did want to say hello. Talk about things. See if she'd learned of anything new lately. Information wasn't terribly powerful here, but it would give you a leg up against others who were ill-informed.

"Sinmara?"

Sinmara was drawing out large circles in the sand thoughtfully when her sister found her. The well-worn training arena didn't often have deep sand but there was enough here for whatever tactical calculation she was idly considering while she had no challengers. It kept her distracted enough that she didn't realize someone was headed her way until suddenly she heard her name.

"Ashwathi," she returned, smiling, "You must be having a slow day to come all the way out here, or has the game moved closer to the training grounds suddenly?"

Already she was thinking about how to get her sister to spar with her. They were all so familiar with each other, of course, but since taking on their apprenticeships they hadn't had that much time to see each other in action. In fact, with the exception of Kusudi and Laevateinn, none of them had taken the same training. Together, they were a perfectly balanced team.. and it never occurred to Sinmara to wonder if their mother had somehow orchestrated it that way.

Ashwathi grinned at her sister's remark. "The game circles endlessly, and I with it. Careful to not grow dizzy, or the hunter will become the hunted." She drew closer to her sister, red eyes glancing down towards the marks in the sand that Sinmara had created. The huntress did not know the meaning of all the markings, but she did know that her sister was training her mind when not her body.

"I take it that there are few to train today," she said with a slight frown, glancing at the thin numbers in the arena. She did not think that the weather was poor to train, but perhaps there were other issues she did not know about that were drawing attention away from the arena. She did not like not knowing that knowledge, and would attempt to discover the reasoning later.

"You are no artist; devising tactics, I presume?"

So, when she was bored Ashwathi became a nosy poet. Interesting, but not necessarily unwelcome. With a huff, Sinmara swatted at the sand she had been moving around and obscured the small portion where she struck, shaking her head.

"I try, at least," she said, "But I learn better by doing."

Sinmara gave her sister a look and backed up a few paces.

"Do you have anything interesting to show me?"

"Do I? I guess we won't know until we try."

Ashwathi didn't give herself another moment to breathe before she gave Sinmara exactly what she wanted: a training session. As she wasn't a soldier, she knew that her skills weren't on the same level, but experimenting with their respective careers, mixed with their Sight....this could be fun.

And so, she struck.

Move 1: Hit!
Total: 3

Ashwathi could have responded in a number of different ways but Sinmara knew she wouldn't reject a challenge. Whether or not this was what Ashwathi did day to day, she had experience that could benefit the training of a soldier. What did a huntress know that a soldier did not, Sinmara wondered.

It wasn't enough to get a leg up from the start, at least. As her sister lunged, Sinmara dodged- barely- and countered viciously. She aimed to unbalance her sister and take control of the fight, but it would all depend on how her opponent recovered.

Ashwathi took the blow hard, feeling a hiss escape her jaws before she turned to retaliate. There was no need to take time to asses the situation, to offer a taunt, to say anything. She knew that time was of the most importance, and to react as quickly as possible would give her the best chance to strike.

That was how she had become such a skilled hunter; quick reactions.

At least she didn't feel the air swipe through her paws; she landed a hit.

Move 2: Bide
Total: 5

Sinmara was caught off guard by Ashwathi's quick reaction and the sharp strike back made her stop to reconsider a plan of action. She moved back and away but she didn't stop moving.

"Good one," she said.

And she started looking for an opportunity, for a weakness in the way her sister carried herself, for a sign of what she would do next in the way she moved.. and she braced herself, expecting that a pause in the action was not a typical part of a hunter's fighting style.

The hunter was not expecting a sudden halt with the momentum of the skirmish, and so she felt herself balk at the gap of movement between both of them. What was she doing? Taking a moment could help, but it could also hinder. If you halted your momentum, it could be hard to regain it.

And even as Ashwathi thought that, she felt her own momentum slip, and she missed.

Move 3: Hit!

Sinmara grinned as she saw her sister fumble at the unfamiliar tactic, when she reached out she missed and left herself wide open. With a loud laugh, Sinmara lunged forward and attempted to grapple with Ashwathi- she hit, but how long she could keep her grip would depend on how her opponent moved from here. She was watching for expected flaws in a hunter's technique but she wasn't even thinking about her own flaws that might be exploited.

Even if there were any flaws to be explited, the two solid hits were doing a little more work on Ashwathi than she would like to admit. Her actions spoke loudly, as she missed yet again.

She wasn't one to curse aloud of her mistakes; rather, she was learning more about her sister in this fight than from the words they had exchanged only a moment earlier.

Sinmara was caught by surprise when Ashwathi retaliated but missed, again leaving an opening. They were so close together now that there was significantly more room for a well trained soldier to get the advantage over a well trained huntress. Close combat for a hunter was deadly but Sinmara had to figure it was different with a target that had claws, fangs and training.

She reached out again and gave her sister a shove. This could end here.

Ashwathi knew she was losing; and part of her didn't mind. It would show more poorly if she had done exceedingly well in a field that she was not a part of. Still, she wanted to just cease her skirmish to conserve what energy she had left. Gossip wasn't going to find itself, and she had more plans to fill her day than entertaining Sinmara.

Unfortunately, she wasn't going to get the chance to say anything. The fight was moving quite quickly, and the momentum would carry them through until someone (her) ended up flat on the ground.

So she attempted one last strike, be it halfheartedly, to complete this duel.

Move 5: Hit/Overkill, good job Sinmara
Total: 14 - Sinmara wins

Sinmara wasn't even thinking about winning or losing anymore, she was so in the moment now that she had full control over the battle. She dodged Ashwathi's half-hearted attempt to keep going and had her sister pinned on the ground before she realized that the fight was over. It took a few seconds for the adrenaline to subside and for her to understand what happened, but she backed off and shook herself out.

"You almost had me at the start there," she said, it sounded like consolation after a lost duel but she meant it.
