Quote: Destiny City News reports several sightings of 'rabid dogs' appearing throughout the city. Those interviewed claim that the dogs would surround them and chase them down the streets, seemingly popping in and out of sight until the person finally found themselves in a well lit area. You have the misfortune of running into these same dogs. They cling to the shadows as you go about your way at night. Seemingly at the corner of your vision, one flickers by, and you turn and see nothing. Again and again it happens. They are trying to drive you into the darkest corners of the city, herding you away from the light. In the nearby distance are the lights of the city: streetlights, signs, traffic. You have to do something to get there, to escape these creatures. When you make it to any significant light source, you hear a low growl, a wailing hiss; the dogs have vanished. For now.
Soleiyu didn't do dogs. He didn't like them for many reasons--not the least of which was the fact that they seemed to chase him.
He wasn't a cat. He looked like a cat, but he was smarter than a cat. Stronger than a cat. Better than a cat.
And, he certainly wasn't a chew toy.
The low growling of the black dogs made him pick up the speed as he rounded a corner. They were faster than he expected, gliding from one shadow to the next. It was unnatural, but with his brief rationality he was able to justify that his adrenaline must have been forcing his mind to play tricks on him.
Dogs couldn't bolt through shadows, and yet these seemed like they were darting between them, disappearing and appearing closer. Growling and nipping, too close for comfort.
But, there was hope. There was an energy signature--a Senshi--nearby.
Soleiyu didn't know who it was, but he knew they could help. He rounded a corner and brightened when he saw her. "Hey!" he called, running as fast as his little legs could take him. He was already overheated, already spent. "Hey, help me!"

Sailor Polyhymnia was a bit firmer on her feet now, still not quite ready to face enemies but...she just couldn't stay at home that night. Something told her she needed to go out, so out she went. Of course, she hadn't expected the shadows to be so spooky, to be so...strange. She thought she heard dogs in the distance, but that was normal, right? People had dogs, dogs liked to bark -- but this sounded different and without even thinking, her feet were leading her towards where it seemed the dogs were coming from. And then she saw it -- saw what looked to be a cat running as fast as he could, trying to escape...more shadows? Dogs? Both? Blinking, she shook her head, crouching down to check on the cat -- the cat that yelled, okay. That wasn't new or unexpected, not entirely, but it took a few seconds for her to switch from 'kitty' to 'kittyfriend', because this was no cat. She didn't hesitate, opening her arms to try and scoop up the very fluffy feline so she could turn to run from the things rapidly approaching them. "Okay, c'mon, let's try to get somewhere a bit better lit, yeah?" She sounded calmer than she felt, already feeling her heart race in her chest, breathing coming heavier. She wasn't the most in shape woman at the best of times, but right now she already felt winded and she hadn't even started to run yet. All the while, the sounds and sights of the shadowy dogs came closer and closer, moving faster than Polyhymnia herself was sure she could move, but she had to try -- for herself and the feline.

The Mauvian panted for breath; he seemed to nearly melt in the senshi's arms as he rested his body. If she hadn't reached out for him, he had been fully prepared to leap atop her shoulders to try and hide the dogs.
"Better lit sounds like a solid plan," he panted; the sounds of the barking and growling seemed a little further off, but the relief was short lived. Even being up in her arms offered little safety and he saw another shadow bolt from her right. It was far too close to comfort and he realized that, even if her arms, he shouldn't be giving himself the luxury to attack.
"Light is good. I only see them in the shadows. Tell me you've seen something like them before and you have a plan. Because, if you don't have one, I have to come up with one. And I know that they were passing right through things before. I've only got one charge of my magic and then I'm out--what magic do you have?" he asked, rolling just slightly in her arms so he could rest his chin on her elbow and try to see where the dogs were now.

She turned to begin running, loosening her grip on the feline enough to let him -- he was definitely a him if she was any judge -- move to a better position, more comfortable as her heels clacked against the pavement, somehow managing to stay upright and not fall over in her rush to get away from the dogs. It seemed there wasn't any really better lit areas in the immediate vicinity, with small pockets of light surrounded by shadow where the street lamps were, leaving her reluctant to remain in the small pool of light for long. "I haven't seen them before, I haven't got a plan past running and confusing them hopefully. That's what my magic does right now, it confuses, from what I've tried." Which, admittedly, wasn't really a good test. She knew her attack wouldn't actively harm anything, so she'd tried it with what seemed to be a cooperative dog a day or two prior -- and the dog had just been confused and sat his butt down and whined. "I'm the Senshi of Ballads, not the Senshi of Power Metal. Though that would be cool if there was one, think of how that would-- Not now, sorry, I shouldn't do that right now." Obviously, someone was more worried than they let on. "It's music, maybe the fact I have magic at all will chase them off?" Otherwise, she would be doing a lot of kicking in the near future if the shadows she saw were any indication...

"Maybe," Solieyu agreed, perhaps a bit hastily. He didn't like the dogs--loud, obnoxious, snapping things. Unnatural, honestly; he couldn't see any color except for the black shadow that seemed to coat them. He expected to see the pearly teeth, the whites of their eyes--anything--but there was only darkness.
They weren't youma; they had no energy signatures.
They weren't anything so far as he could tell, except terriying and still at their heels.
He didn't want to see if their teeth were as sharp as he thought they'd be.
"Your magic is better than mine. I've got one shot, and I don't even know if it'll hit them or go right through them. And I'm completely out after I've tried, a sitting duck. What do you need to do to cast your magic, shall I get on your shoulders? Just in case."
Being higher up seemed ideal but he didn't want to risk moving without her being prepared and wind up back on the ground. Senshi of Ballads was better than nothing, and he wasn't the sort to judge a book by its cover; the power of song, of music, was unlimited in the right hands.

Nia saw more than she felt from the dogs -- which said nothing, because she couldn't feel anything from the dogs -- and that just made her more afraid, more determined to hold onto the feline she'd scooped up. When asked about her magic, what she needed to do, she shook her head. "You can if you want to, but I don't need my hands for my magic. I just need my voice, which means I have to stop running to do it." She was having some trouble speaking -- she wouldn't be able to sing to use her attack if she couldn't get a good breath. "If I have to fight them off physically, though," she added, "I'll possibly need my arms, so you might be safer up on my shoulders regardless."

Soleiyu did not need to be asked twice; he twisted in her arms and moved to settle himself on her shoulders. He was a large cat and probably shouldn't have been able to hold on as well as he did without causing any damage but he took great care to settle himself firmly and without digging his claws into her. He held on tightly and said, mindful not to let his whiskers tickle her ears, "Your arms are yours. If you need them."
He was incredibly limited in this form and he knew it but he wasn't going to let this poor girl get hurt on his behalf. He pressed his face close to hers and assured, "I won't let them hurt you. You'll be okay. Keep running. You're almost at the light."
It was encouraging--calm, almost. The fact was that his heart was pounding in his chest but he wasn't going to scare her any more than he already had. He didn't want his fear to be contagious. He felt helpless, but his pride wouldn't let him acknowledge it--wouldn't let it show.
He didn't have the tools he needed to make as much light as he wanted--but if they could just get there...maybe they'd at least stand a chance.
It was the best they could do.

Having her arms free was somewhat reassuring, as was the warm weight of Soleiyu on her shoulders. She wasn't alone in this, and she had to do what she could to keep the both of them safe. Nia could do that. At least, she figured she could. They were dogs, after all, and not like a pack of wolves. (Or so she hoped.)She could see the light up ahead, and she put on a burst of speed she wasn't even aware she had in her. She was far from being in shape, even now, but she was trying her best and while it felt like the dogs were nipping at her ankles, but she couldn't think about that, she couldn't let fear get to her. Especially not with the Mauvian on her shoulders seeming so calm and collected. She needed to be that as well. Just as they were almost to the light, however, one of Nia's feet landed wrong, rolling her ankle and causing her to fall forward, hands in front of her to try and keep the fall from being as bad as it could be. And then, she could feel the dogs nipping at her, causing her to whimper in the back of her throat even as she used her legs to kick at the shadows, trying to beat them off even as she was still on the ground.

"You have to get up!" Soleiyu commanded. "You're almost at the light, you have to keep moving."
It wasn't just for him, though; when they had fallen he had tumbled a few feet away. If he had been selfish, he could have run to the light; he could have left her there and been safe. The thought flickered in his mind only briefly, but even if he hadn't had a conscience--he was a Mauvian. He couldn't let something happen to a Senshi.
He knew how important they were.
Soleiyu did not like dogs. He did not like being helpless. He did not like not having options.
Soleiyu did not like this.
He returned to the girl quickly; he was light and pounced atop her to make sure he had the best position to aim. He sucked in a breath and grimaced; the star on his forehead lit up and a ray of light shot from him with enough force that he he nearly stumbled back. It shot right into the dogs--through them--but it was bright enough that it seemed to have temporarily stunned them. He didn't know how long they'd have before they picked themselves back up and decided to strike again but it was all he could do.
Fatigue washed through him; he wavered where he stood and then his legs collapsed beneath him. It had taken more energy from him than he had anticipated and he found it difficult to even just keep his eyes open.
At least the senshi was warm, that was nice. Except, it wasn't doing anything to keep him awake; he wanted nothing more than to just curl up against her and sleep.
meynara I am sorry this took so long ;;
