Movie News and Reviews

Saturday 21st August 2004

Ok the much hyped Alien Versus Predator movie was released last week in the US, And fell to an immediate slagging off by the critics, but whats this? even the Director was slagging off the movie...you wanna know why? Well in fact the Movie was scheduled to be a R rated film in the US ( Which is an 18 rated film here ) but the distibutors wanted ti to be a PG-13. Crazy I know...and Alien/ Predator film being a PG. So Paul Anderson ( The Dir ) Had to cut ALOT out of the film to get it bumped down to a PG version. Sad I know but true. So likely to say he was NOT a happy bunny. So the Version we all will eb watching in the Cinema will actually be a bastardised version of the true film. But fear not, Mr Anderson has said that they WILL be releasing the full version of the movie when it is released on DVD.

Now onto the Endless Production hell that is the Superman movie. But it seems good news is on the Horizon. They now have a Director for the film and it is X-men and X-2 directer Bryan Singer. He has taken the reigns of the movie and hopes to see it made for a 2006 summer release. But this also brings bad news to the X-men fans since Singer will not be making X-3. So the films future looks bleak right now...but Hope could be on the way in the form of Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator and life long X-men fan Joss Whedon, he has shown good interest in the movie and hopes he will get a chance of directing it himself. Let's just hope Fox actually hire a Fan of the comics as a creater and not pull a Schumacher :: shudders at rememberring Batman & Robin ::

Review

Spider-Man 2 - For m first review I will start with my favourite movie from this year Spider-Man 2. a Film that has allready become the 12 highest earning film of all time. a huge feet for all the so called blockbusters that are released every summer. but Spider-Man 2 is indeed a Blockbuster. Set 2 years after the first movie it see's Peter parker struggling to Have his own life and still be Spider-man. It brings alot of realism to the character. and shows that not every superheroes world is all sunshine and Villain whupping. I feel Tobey Maguire really got to grips with Parker In the sequal. he deffinately learn't alot from the first movie and has improved on the role Ten fold. Everyone reprises there roles from the First movie. Kirsten Dunst ( Mary-Jane ) , James Franco ( Harry Osborn ) and the Hilarious JK Simmons as J Jonah Jameson. without a doubt has some of the bets lines of the film and they couldn't of picked a better actor to play old JJ. The bad guy this time is Doctor Octopus ( Played by Alfred Moljina ) . Unlike Norman Osborn from the first film, Ock isn't evil, he's just a misplaced Scientist who loses his wife and Lifetime research in one fell swoop. So you can deffinately relate to his pain and confusion which also makes a very indepth Villain. My would a good scientist turn bad you ask? Because of his four mechanicla arms, after the chip that keeps the Arms' AI out from his brain is destroyed, the arms want nothing more than to carry on the work that they were designed for, and will stop at nothing to do it. This leads Ock into confrontations with Spider-man at a New york bank, The showdown in the collapsing building and by my opinion the greatest scene in the movie when They are fighting ont top of a moving train. This movie has everything Action, Romance, Loss, Adventure and Heart. With Spider-man 3 allready in talks it seems like the web slinger has got a very bright future...well asl long as Joel Schumacher stays away. If you haven't seen it yet and want to see a real summer smash hit, this is the movie for you. See it now...you will NOT be dissapointed
