[[ This is an open RP anyone is welcome to jump in that is visiting the Arbor currently! Kits encouraged to come learn how to paint... or... make a huge mess and have some fun! There are no min or max lengths for the RP, you do you! ]]
Smudge sat thoughtfully smushing bits of berry on a leaf, trying to mix the perfect shade of blue. There was a pale rock here in their clearing that was just asking to be decorated, and he had been giving much thought to what it needed. Today was the day he would finally start his grand project!
"More red maybe..." He squeezed a bit of a red berry and continued smearing the colors around. It was always hard to get just the right shade he envisioned out of the berries he had to work with. There were several leaves and a couple nutshells scattered about him in the grass with various colors already mixed. But the colors needed to be perfect.
It was the beginning of a beautiful almost-summer day, the sky crystal blue and the sun coming up warm and bright. The grass was already getting warm and Smudge was lost deep in color mixing land, too busy to hear the pitter patter of little kit hops approaching... "Smudge... SMUDGE! HI!!" A chorus of little voices called excitedly as they nearly toppled over each other trying to hop through the grass. It was Parsley and Junie, with Drift looking more than frazzled as he tried to keep up. This father thing had happened quite suddenly and he was still adjusting. Fivespot had wanted to rest in the burrow but the weather had the kits in high spirits and ready to play! "What? I ... No.. Hi kits.. oof.. watch out.. wait! Let me ... I ...Oh no." They scampered around the leaves and bits, somehow avoiding them as Smudge startled and sat up trying to tell them to watch out for all his supplies. He tried to protect the leaf he was working on but before he could even drop the berry he was holding Parsley's little white paw plopped right into the purple mixture. "OooOOOh" His tiny voice was full of wonder as he looked at his paw dripping paint juice. "Mornin Smudge, uh sorry?" Drift apologized and reached a paw toward the kit... to no avail. Parsley was already hopping around three leggedly trying to show Junie and only managing to fall over instead. Painty berry juice got all over the grass and both kits giggled. "I maked the colors, what this called?" Parsley asked excitedly, slapping the messy paw on more grass blades and leaving violet streaks everywhere."A MESS" Drift grumbled. "Painting!" Smudge said at the same time.
He grinned at Drift and hopped over to the little kit, "It's called painting... uh.. which one are you?" He knew it was one of the twins but that was it.
"Parsy!" Parsley said brightly, "That Junie" He tried to smack his sister with the paw but she managed to dodge away.
Despite them making a mess in mere seconds, he was delighted to see them showing an interest so young in his craft. Maybe he could try teaching them, both to encourage their creativity but also to help distract them from terrorizing their tired-looking father.
"Let me show you what painting is and how it works. Come gather round this rock kits..." Smudge declared, holding up his own berry juice covered paw and leading the way back to the pale rock and painting supplies.544

Pumpkin was so excited to be visiting the Arbor! She felt like she had found kindred spirits of the arts. There had been so much looking around - aka chasing kits - and admiring the colorful artwork displayed around the warren - aka retrieving messy kits. Finally, Pumpkin felt that it was time to actually speak with a member of the warren, asking about life there and if there was any chance that perhaps, one day, she could find a home there? Or at least visit for an extended stay and practice her own painting.
So, after asking around, she had been told to seek out the rabbit, Smudge. He seemed to be in charge of the arts and if she had any interest in this area, he was the one to speak with.
Except, nothing ever went according to plan these days.
"NIGHTSHADE!" Pumpkin attempted to use her "Mom Voice"... but the kit was in a rebellious mood.
Nightshade dashed around, following the sounds of other kits. He'd caught sight of another small form or two, and was curious what they were doing.
Freckles and Foggy followed behind their mom, eyes wide and curious.
"Nightshade, get your little black tail back here!"
Too late, Nightshade found the other two kits. And the mess that seemed to be starting. He instantly cackled and raced over to butt his nose into what was going on. "Oooooooh whas'at?!" He totally had been there the whole time. Totally. "I play too?!"
Pumpkin, Freckles, and Foggy managed to catch up. The two kits stared at the colorful paints. Then at their brother. Back at the paints. Over at the two strange kits.
"Mama..." Foggy began. "FUN!" Freckles finished.
Blinking up at their mom, both slowly moved towards the others. Well, Foggy did. Freckles, in typically Freckles fashion, tripped on her own paws and rolled right in to the gathering kits like a bowling ball.
"Oh my gracious! I'm so sorry. So very sorry. We were looking for the rabbit Smudge and one of my kits got distracted. Then the other ran off. And I had to drag the others.... oh! Are you teaching a painting class?!" Instantly the black and orange doe was intrigued.

Chill Mist trailed behind her siblings, keeping close to Pumpkin. She squinted into the bright light, wishing the outing was taking place later in the day. Maybe at dusk. Or even better, at night. But her siblings and parent seemed unphased, so here they all were.
The little white kit took in the scene. Other greyish kits seemed to be intent on covering the grass in some sort of violet goop, and there were leaves and shells filled with colourful goop seemingly everywhere. Maybe this was the 'art' her mother had been busy telling them all about. It looked like a big mess to Chill Mist. But that didn't mean there wasn't something to possibly learn from it all. She lurked close behind Pumpkin, paying close attention to what her mother was saying. Clearly this Smudge rabbit was someone important.

Petal hopped near the little gathering of parents and kits and smiled to see them all. "What a cute little group!" he exclaimed as he came right up close to the large rock they were gathered near. "Hi there!" he waved with the paw that wasn't currently holding Pansy, as she had fallen asleep again on the way over here. Crocus was currently running around and around his feet excitedly. "This looks like a fun day out for all the little kits." Petal nodded to the other adults and introduced himself. "My name is Petal and that little rascal is Crocus," He pointed to the little brown blur that was currently headed straight toward the knocked over pile of kits and paint. Petal then gestured with his occupied arm, "This sleepy baby is Pansy. Is it alright if we join you?" Crocus decided he did not need to wait on his Papa to ask permission and had finally reached the group of rabbits his own age. "Hi hi! I'm Crocus! What's this??" He stuck his paw in a smear of paint and started rubbing it around giggling wildy. Words: 188

Smudge turned when he heard other voices, and was a little startled to see other families had arrived and the two kits had turned into ... well a lot more. Math wasn't his strong suit either. This would be interesting though.
"I...hello all, yes I am Smudge!" He greeted the doe and the other new buck with a nod, as he swiftly blocked a kit from tumbling into one of the paint leaves. He picked up another cupped leaf with his messy paw and held it out of their reach.
"So it appears that we are having an impromptu art class this morning.." he agreed with a chuckle. The kits were adorable and he enjoyed an eager audience. Where to start? How to organize these little furballs before they toppled all the paints? He had an idea.
"Ok kits! Settle for a moment... settle!" He tried to get their attention but saw that wasn't going to be easy. "Everyone wants to try yes? First things first, you need to pick a color, there are many already mixed here!" He gestured around to the scattered leaves and shells, there should be plenty for everyone. Hopefully this would get them at least focused on a task.
"Careful not to spill them all, or we won't get to do the funnest part!" The leaf he held was the violet shade he had been mixing earlier, so he figured that was a lovely shade for demonstrating. He set it atop the rock, out of kit reach, and busied himself trying to help the kits pick a color without spilling them everywhere.
Drift was certain this was going to be great entertainment, and moved a little out of the general reach of the kit storm to kick back and relax in the warm grass. He had no intention of actually trying this painting... thing. Parenting was a full-time job he had not planned for and the breather was already a welcome one... Smudge could babysit Fivespot's kits right?? "Parsley...Junie... be good listen to Smudge now." He called randomly, not even sure where his kits were in the group anymore but figured they were probably not being good.
"Hi! HI! HI!" Parsley eagerly greeted every kit that appeared as if by magic, this was already the BEST day! "Is a PAYYNT!" He told the ones called Nightshade and Crocus, and waved his purpled paw around to show everyone he already had a pretty on him. He completely ignored anything Smudge was blah blahing about, and tried to find another unattended paint to dip his other paw in.
Junie, like a good girl, listened to uncle Smudge while avoiding her brother's messy paw flailing. She spotted a kit hanging back and shyly waved at the one behind her momma, wishing her own momma was there. Looking around, she spotted her papa lazing in the grass, and felt a little reassured... maybe. There was a shell with a color she wasn't sure of nearby, but it was pretty so she hopped next to it and waited patiently for what to do next.

Pansy blearily blinked as she woke up in her Papa's arms and tried to figure out where the heck she was. Why was there so much shouting? She took one look around at all the activity and yawned before closing her eyes and snuggling deeper into Papa's fur. Nope, too much effort.
Crocus on the other hand was practically vibrating with energy. He stared wide eyed and excited at the kit waving his purple paw around and screeched enthusiastically along with him. "Paaaaaaaint!!" He too was completely ignoring what this random rabbit was saying and instead took both paws and smacked them down into two different colored painty gloops, and then another two. Smack smack smack!! Little paint splatters flecked up onto his chest and his face and even his ears, he was a MESS! He didn't even know what colors he was choosing but it looked all rainbowy like that thing they had seen in the sky that one time with Papa and it was AWESOME. He waved his multi colored paws around at the other kit, grinning excitedly and shrieked again. "Paaaaaaaaint!!! HI!! I like your paint!!!!"

Pumpkin wasn't afraid. This sounded like so much fun! She was excited to have brought her kits by today. This Smudge seemed to have a cute idea and she was happy to lend a helping paw. Clearly, this was going to be a messy ordeal. She kept one paw gently resting against Chill Mist, the other attempting to grab Freckled Apple before her kit barreled in to all the other kits present.
SIGH!
"Greetings! I'm Pumpkin. As a fellow painter, please let me know what I can do to help! Even if it's just crowd control." She snickered a little, gently turning Freckles right side up and facing her towards Smudge. A couple other kits were gently turned in the same fashion.
"PAAAAAAAINT?!" Nightshade was MESMERIZED. Mama had tried to show them this funky wet stuff before. But he hadn't been all that interested in it. Well, except for when he tried to paint Hemlock instead. And them Foggy. Because Foggy was all white and totally had needed some color. He'd attempted to put a paw print on Chill Mist... but that hadn't gone so well. The little kit bounced in his excitement, watching as Crocus smacked his paws into the mess. Yesssssss.
Silent Fog was not as enthused about the paint, once it was named. Oh, he remembered this stuff. He shot a look at Nightshade...and the other kit he was close to, quietly hopping away from his brother and next to Junie. At least she seemed to be paying attention.
Freckles, on the other hand, now that she was righted and sitting, stared up at Smudge with the cutest innocent kit look she could manage. While slowly sticking a paw onto one of the leaves with paint. And quite casually... smacking it against Nightshade's face.
Nightshade thought this hilarious. And decided to share the joy with Crocus, dipping his paws in it and getting even more paint on the other kit. "HI! I Nightshade. You painted!"

Parsley squealed in delight at the other kits slapping the goop and getting it all over. "Me too! MEEEE TOOOO!" He hopped up and did a little wiggle to show his mostly white and very inviting tiny body begging to be painted. He patted himself on the chest ruff, but to his dismay, all the flailing around had actually caused the purple to dry on his paw and it did not leave much of a mark. His tiny face filled with baby saddness!
Junie turned to look curiously at the white kit that came over to her. They had bright red eyes like her sister. "Hi. You pretty eyes." She said randomly, and turned back to watch what Smudge was doing.
"Oh good, I think we are going to have our paws quite full today!" Smudge's attention was divided between greeting Pumpkin ( and relief she was there to help) and trying to watch the kits flailing in the paints. "No no, here let's put the paint on this rock not each other..." Smudge tried to stop the painting of Nightshade but of course, was too slow. They were all very cute, and it was hard to hide a chuckle at their shenanigans. "If you can just help steer them toward the rock perhaps..." He added to Pumpkin. The one that called itself Crocus was going a little bonkers and he made a swipe, plucking him up mid shrieks to carry him back to the rock.
"Now... if you have chosen your paint color, place the tip of your paw in it like so.." Crocus wiggling under one arm, he took his other and lightly dipped his paw in the violet paint. "And dab it on the surface of your project like this..." He dabbed at a spot on the pale rock to demonstrate. "Just not too thick or it will drip, you want gentle little pats..." he motioned for the ones paying attention to come put colors on the rock. Setting Crocus at the base of the rock, he pointed at it. "Show us what colors you made little artist!"
Junie daintily touched her paw to the drippy goop, and made a YUCK face. But she was fascinated and wanted to make marks too, so she scootched forward and touched the rock, leaving a bright orangey smear.

Redeemed Petal couldn’t help but chuckle at the shenanigans of all these kits. He sat back on the grass, out of the reach of paint splatters, and kept pansy cuddled to his chest while he watched the “lesson” unfold. He was happy to cuddle his sleepy baby and let the other adult rabbits take care of things. They both seemed interested in all the painting and Petal had nothing to contribute to that. Plus, it was secretly nice to get a little bit of a break from crocus for a few moments. That boy was a lot!
Crocus meanwhile was mid shriek at the indignity of being picked up and moved until he was finally set back down wherein he stopped his shrieking immediately. He wanted to go back to that FUN kit. The one who had painted him! Night… something or other. And that other one.. uh Pars or something. This dumb adult had picked him up away from his new paint friends! He looked up at the big painty buck and stuck his tongue out at him. “Yeah I wanna paint… HIM!” He splooped a bunch of green paint onto his paws and bounded back to his new painty friends, leaving little pawprints in his wake. When he reached the other kits he excitedly pounced on them, making extra sure to rub the paint into their fur. “PAAAAAINT!” He squealed happily.

Parsley went from sadness over his dried paint problem to glee in a blink, and happily tussled around with the painty friend Crocus when he returned. "PRETTY!!" Green paint went everywhere! Then it clicked, for he was just new to the world still and not so smart. All he had to do was dip his paw again and he would have new paint to play with! Looking around, he disentangled from the kit pile long enough to plop both little paws in the closest shell. It was filled with a bright red, and he returned the favor by pouncing on Crocus with a loud "WEEEEEEEEE!!!!"

Crocus toppled over while his new bff covered him in red paint. “Woooooo!” This whole paint thing was pretty much the best thing ever. “Do you do this every day!?” He excitedly shrieked practically right into Parsley’s ear. Meanwhile, Rosemary had made her way over, hearing the shrieks of her siblings. Well, one sibling in particular. She took one look at this painting catastrophe and shook her head. How immature, she was a big kit thank you very much. Making a wiiiide berth around the tussling boys she headed over to her father standing by the rock and looked down at all the different colors. Well, this could be fun. “Can I… use some of these?” She asked quietly. She wanted to pick out all the different colors and put them into a pleasing order. Maybe on this rock…. Words: 139 Total: 248

"It definitely seems like it!" Pumpkin couldn't help but laugh at all the kits going paint crazy. It made her heart squeeze at such budding artists! And the fact that her own kits were seeming to enjoy it. She had tried, oh yes, to teach them the concept of painting. But... it had pretty much ended up going about as well as this little paint class. With a little more shouting and crying involved.
Not afraid of the painted paws launching about, Pumpkin cheerfully attempted to turn kits towards the rock. "Over to the rock, little ones!" She chirped, scooting Freckles in that direction. Hopefully, her daughter wouldn't trip if she just sat and painted the rock.
Nightshade thought this was the best thing ever. Well, aside from that one time he put paint on Chill Mist... and managed to get Foggy in the process too. BUT THIS WAS AMAZING. Until his new friend was plucked away. Nightshade made the biggest of pout-y faces that quickly turned into mischief. "Nooooo new friend!" He called after Crocus, trying to hop over and instead plopping two bright orange splatters on Smudge. Oh hey! "NOW YOU PAINTED!" He giggled. And was bombarded by his new friends Crocus and Parsley.
"I Nightshade. You new BEST FRIENDS!" He declared of Crocus and Parsley.
Freckles, now that she was calm and sitting where mama had placed her, watched in fascination as Smudge put paint on the rock. Ooooooooh~ Dipping her paws in, Freckles started putting dots all over the rock.
Foggy was slightly startled at being told his eyes were pretty, but he gave Junie a shy little, "Hi," and a smile. When she moved towards the rock, he followed. But he let her put her paws in the paint first, observing. Then dipped his own paw in a blue and tried the same thing.

"Yes that's it, good good!" Smudge encouraged the kits gathering around the rock, some forcibly so by his new assistant Pumpkin. They were making a huge mess, but it was all art to him and he enjoyed their exploration. He shook his head as he watched the little ball of paint and energy that was Crocus bee-line off to the kits he had just removed him from. Sigh. Oh well, they were having fun, very loudly and messily. "OH!" Smudge looked down at the splatters of orange on his haunch, then at the kit Nightshade that had splattered him but the kit was immediately swallowed back into the tussling kit pile. He chuckled, there wasn't much he could do about it and it wasn't like he hadn't already dripped all over himself anyhow. Some of the orange had run into the colors already on his leg to make a different hue, and he brightened.
"Ok everyone, next lesson! If you take another color, and smear it like so with your first color..," he demonstrated adding some red to the blue-violet color he had already dabbed on the rock, "you can invent all-new colors!" He stepped back to admire the bright magenta-ish shade he had created. Mixing colors was still greatly fascinating to him.
Junie returned the shy smile of the other kit, then grinned when she caught sight of her sister Rosemary joining them. "Rosie Rosie!" She waved her painted paw at her sister, then at the other little white and red-eyed baby. "See friend pretty eyes like you!" She looked down and wrinkled her nose at her paw. "Yes you come paint, it's gross." Looking at her dabs on the rock, then at what Smudge was doing, she tried to add a little blue to her orange dabs... and the color started to turn into mud? This only confirmed to her that paint was gross, and she was terrible at it.
"Frends? FRENDS! BEST FRENDS YES!" Parsley squealed, trying to match Crocus in volume and shriekage, as this must be how best friends talk! "No this first time ever, but now we do every day!" He said between flailing and trying to smack Crocus and Nightshade at the same time. "EVERY DAY PAINT!!" He cried excitedly, and bumped over a shell of paint, splattering even more onto his already dripping fur. "OOoooh!' He flung some of the paint, liking the 'splatter' effect it made!

Redeemed Crocus screamed something that was probably supposed to be words but actually just sounded like unbridled excitement as a sound. “YES PAINT ALL DAY FRIENDS FOREVER!!!” He basically cannonballed into a shell of paint splattering every one near him and was about to do it again because that was the MOST FUN but then he felt himself raised up into the air by the scruff of his neck. “Hey!! Nooooooooo!!!!” He called out to his new friends. “I’ll be baaaaaaaaack!!” Petal shook his head fondly as he carried the splattered little kit gingerly by his scruff, trying not to get any of the dripping paint on his own fur or on the sleeping Pansy in his other arm.
“Well this has been quite entertaining but we really must get this rascal home and cleaned up. Thank you for the uh… class.” Petal smiled sheepishly, “Sorry about all the mess….” He carried off the protesting and squirming Crocus and headed back home for what was sure to be a loooooong grooming session.
Rosemary was completely absorbed in her work and didn’t even notice the chaos going on around her. She had a little spot of rock and on it she had placed a single drop of paint from each color in neat little rows, arranged from lightest to darkest. Neatly wiping the leaf which she had used to transfer the pain to the rock, she admired her work. She nodded, very pleased with how orderly it all looked. Yes, her job here was done. Finally blinking back to the world, she noticed her brother was basically raining paint all over the place and decided to get out of the way before any of it came her way. With a whispered good bye, she carefully left as quietly as she had come, with only her neat and orderly paint dots to show she had been there at all.

((I'm gonna call this wrapped up after this post so we can get everything redeemed before end of month/ season rollover! We can always do more painting class RPs later biggrin ))
Smudge continued trying to demonstrate painting techniques while trying to track all the kits running about, but it was definitely a lost cause. The rock was an amazing array of colors and patterns and tiny pawprints. It really was lovely he decided, stepping back to admire it. Better than whatever he had originally planned anyway!
Drift snorted himself awake, and realized he had somehow dozed off despite the wailing, screeching, squealing group. They were an absolute mess! He streeeetched and yawned, then made his way over to Junie. Her little painting was just strange splats, and he couldn't help but smile. She clearly had his 'gift' for the arts. "This is really good Junie... how about we go practice some evasion manuevers out in the field next?" Junie's little eyes lit up, she loved playing pretend like she was a Red Guard captain! "Ok! Papa!" She did her best to clean off her paw in the grass and hopped after him as he went to collect Parsley. Drift nodded to Smudge, "Thanks for dealing with these lil grasshoppers today pal!" He called.
Parsely was just about to flop his whole body on a leaf puddle of paint when big paws scooped him into the air. He squealed and wiggled, frantically reaching for the paint, then his new BEST FRENS. His papa told him it was time to go, and he shrieked his dismay! "NOooooooOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo!!" He wailed even as he was slung over a shoulder and they headed back toward the den his mother was staying in.
