Petal hopped happily along through the grass. Behind him he was dragging a big leaf with a bunch of random bobs and bits on it. He had collected so many beautiful things in his travels, the most exciting of which was the curiously shaped, shiny stone. He had been enamored with the stone since he found it, well tripped over it really. He had almost stubbed his little toes! As he made his way to the pool he reminisced on all the cozy nights, snuggled against his momma's chest, as she described the way he came to be hers.
His momma had wanted a little kit to snuggle and love so badly but she just couldn't seem to have one. So one day she came to the very pool Petal was headed to now and she made an offering. She always gasped at this part and it was Petal's favorite. He would giggle and giggle until quieting down so he could here the rest of the story. She had gasped because right where she had left her offering stone, a soft little baby had appeared! She had picked the little bundle up and cuddled him to her and she said his ears were so soft and pink they reminded her of a flower petal, and that was how Petal came to be his momma's.
Petal smiled happily to himself as he recalled the story he had heard so many times. His momma had raised him all by herself and now that he was a big buck he knew exactly what he wanted to do with his life. He loved little kits and always had. Really, he loved anything small and precious. Even as a young kit he had liked being the one to help take care of the other kits. It had never felt like a chore to him, but always a joy to play and snuggle anything sweet and innocent. Since he kissed his momma good bye and set off on his own, he had come across many beautiful and wonderful places, but he never had stayed long, because he had a goal to reach. That goal was within sight now and he was so excited he started to hop skip right up to the pool's edge!
He took a moment to take in the sweet little area, and listen to the pleasant sounds of the bubbling water. The sun shone through the clouds and right on to a pretty little spot at the edge of the water. "Perfect," he whispered quietly into air, not wanting to disturb the peaceful and almost magical atmosphere. Pulling his leaf to him, he took out all his offerings. First he placed the shiny stone right in the rays of the sun so that it glistened. Then he took some of the beautiful flowers he had found along the way and tucked their stems under the stone so they wouldn't blow away in the breeze. He thought the flowers added a sweet touch and hoped that his offering would please the pool. What a gorgeous day for an offering.
