A Merry Chase in the Twilight

Moirath had been brighter and bouncing even more than usual in the last sevenday. Her hide seemed to shine like stars. Her cheer had been infectious and Veltanna was more mischievous and hyper than usual as well. Veltanna had an inkling of what might be happening after a life of watching flights. It didn’t surprise her when one evening just as the sun was setting below the horizon she found Moirath standing on their ledge watching the sky intently. A need was filling both of them. “It’s time.” Veltanna told Moirath.

It is always time for something! Something is always waiting and ready to be taken! This time, we are going to turn the sky upside down and bring a star back up over the horizon.

After so many months Veltanna was getting better at puzzling out what Moirath meant. “You go make those who chase you work for it. Go take the sky for your own today!” As Moirath gave a happy woop in her head and leapt off the ledge, Veltanna turned back inside to see if anyone would come for her.

Who out there feels that they are indeed the most interesting being to deserve my attention? Will you find the end or get lost in the middle? Come! Play! And find out! Moirath called to all dragons in the Weyr. She spiraled lazily while waiting to see if anyone would join her.

About Moirath: Full of strange speech and tangential ideas, Moirath is not the easiest dragon to converse with. But she loves to talk and doesn’t mind if people don’t understand her. She will keep talking until they do or wander off. Moirath loves to help others and wants to be useful.

About Veltanna: Clever and mischievous, Veltanna enjoys pranks, inventing new games, because everything is a game, and seems to have endless energy. She can be overbearing and controlling with wanting things to go way. Still, she is easily bored so she changes her attention often.

NPC Blue Shireth

Ah. So many young greens had begun answering the call for the sky as of late - something he found very silly in and of itself, because why not simply call the sky to them instead? - and while Shireth could not find an answer to that particular question, he did instead have one for dear Moirath's instead.

Rising from his ledge, he almost lazily flopped off the side of it, twisting as he fell to catch the air with his wings and slowly, slowly, faster, faster, quick! - made his way upwards to where Moirath awaited her suitors, drawing a larger counter-spiral to the way she flew. There are plenty of find things to find lost in the middle - or at the beginning, or far past the end my dear~ Would it not be so fun to find a long abandoned adventure and see where it lead?

NPC Shireth - A 16 turn on Blue. He really likes to unravel words and see where they take him. Even Shireth isn't quite sure what he is going to say or do next. He isn't very constant and his moods change just as quickly as what he is saying. He may not be born and bred High Reaches, but he and His have lived there quite long enough!

NPC R'GAL OF NPC BROWN YIHOTH


He'd heard Moirath, of course. How could he not? Who could ignore such a voice, such a Green, especially when she was challenging them like that? Yihoth's attention had been naturally drawn to the deep shade of her hide as she rose, set against the striking colors of the sunset and throwing her form into gilded contrast when the light touched her. She was so alive, so vibrant, and the curious way she spoke was like a captivating spell to the Brown, her voice turning his gaze skyward to behold her properly. R'gal had only grinned and waved him on once he'd let himself watch her for a moment, glad to see that His had been suitably interested for once; Yihoth was glad for the encouragement, and now he was more than ready to try his luck.

He called out to her without a moment's hesitation, his great wings launching him into the sky after her with ease--he wasn't the only one who'd seen fit to give Moirath the attention she so rightfully deserved, but Yihoth couldn't be bothered with the Blue's presence right now. His eyes were only for Moirath, whirling a bright purple that could almost put the creeping shades of twilight to shame.

Moirath, darlin', I'd beg you for just a moment of your time. For the honor of chasing you, though, I'll fight 'em all.



NPC Yihoth: A massive (literally) sweetheart with a down-home sense of hospitality and kindness, Yihoth is a gentle giant who's commonly described as a thoughtful, considerate dragon. Unfortunately, he can be a bit of a doormat due to how much he wants to please others, and isn't so great at standing up for himself.
NPC R'gal: Fun-loving, talkative, and a bit air-headed, R'gal is a thrillseeker who loves finding new and interesting ways to bring people together. Sometimes he doesn't plan that well, though, and he winds up overstepping boundaries without thinking. Whoops!
Basically just here to cheer on aforementioned big boy.

Oh. Mnereth lifted his head suddenly, his eyes suddenly swirling with purples and yellows as he watched the beautiful young green take to the skies, the first star among the twilight. Oh, he'd watched for some time now, admiring and sighing to himself at the sight of her. But now... Oh, she already had so many eager suitors, suitors that might be much better for her. He wished to chase, but what if he said something foolish? What if she laughed in an unkind sort of way?

Don't you start. K'lar thought firmly but affectionately. You'll never know unless you try, my dear. You are more than worthy. Where his dragon always encouraged him to participate in things, it was up to him to give Mnereth the confidence to do the things that he truly wanted to do.

Taking heart from his rider, Mnereth sprang from his ledge, though hints of yellow still swam through his purple gaze. You have always been enchanting, Moirath. He said simply, and indeed, no other word suited her more.

Blue Mnereth: A calm, unflappable blue who seeks out the glorious things in life for his rider. Easy-going and confident, he is a bright dragon, but his intelligence rarely manifests itself verbally. Mnereth prides himself on using as few words as possible, and is very much a daydreamer. He is quite shy with the ladies, however.

Diz gave him a light slap on the thigh in passing for good luck and briskly made his way out of his weyr. Licking his hand and swiping his hair back? Absolutely. Mentally shuffling through a few pick up lines? Probably not needed since Veltanna was friendly, but it never hurt. He was incredibly curious as usual to see who would form the pack--it was what made flights sort of a sport for him, even if his dragon treated it with much more respect.

Sighing after him, said dragon stretched just in case (he didn't want to have to repeat his muscle tearing performance from before) and then took to the air, a shimmering form amidst chromatics. < I'm like many little fires with wings! > he called to Moirath cheerfully. < Or stars! That's pretty interesting, right? >

Moirath delighted in attracting such wonderful males. Maybe if they were very good she would match make! But for now, she gave a little tail waggle and took off towards the lake moving fast. Shireth Shireth, be careful because if you look for forgotten adventures you might forget yourself then you would be someone else. Yihoth the humble, a moment is a moment is a time gone by. But a moment can be found in a moment ends.

Moirath trailed one wing along the water before veering right. Mnereth bereft, do you live a life with life’s greatest joy? Life can be found in enchanting surroundings. But a joy can be found inside a dark cavern. Cusnth the bright. Stars alight and hide the light. Do you know how to be just right? None of these were riddles, exactly, as there was no set answer. But hidden means abounded. Fly fast my friends, or time will catch up with you and pass you by!

Yihoth had gotten a little too lost in thought, or something close enough to count--there's more silhouettes around him now, more competitors coming in the hopes of catching Moirath's eye. There's another Blue in the air, not to mention a sparkling young Bronze who's so eager to chase that Yihoth can feel the enthusiasm from here.
Alright, then. Can't let all that get him down. R'gal would be so disappointed if he gave up so easily--No, not really, came the response. But I trust you won't fold at the first sign of a challenge, huh?
Not my style, Mine. And besides, I wouldn't wanna keep the little lady waitin'.
He's already up in the air, anyway. It'd be a shame to let all that effort go to waste, especially under these circumstances. What kind of chaser would he be if he paled so easily? He needed to keep his eyes on the prize--but that was such an uncouth way to describe her. Still, for all his internal debate, Moirath seemed to have no similar qualms, and had clearly decided she'd better get started on testing her suitors.

Ideally, he rumbled to Moirath, huffing quietly as he did his best to pick up the pace. She was on the move, and she was fast. I'd keep on catchin' that next moment as it comes. Which is exactly what I'm trying to do, here, provided you'll have me.

The blue pondered over such words even as he swooped over the lake, taken by the sight of the ripples Moirath's wing created as it skimmed effortlessly across the surface for a moment. True. He admitted, knowing all too well that life was full of joyful things that it seemed all too often that others missed. Be it newly bloomed flowers, or the simple peace of a quiet, cool night...

With a jolt, Mnereth realized he'd started to daydream and had shot right past when Moirath turned. He didn't intend to let time pass him by this day, if he could help it, and hastily twisted to get himself back on course.

Ah! But then I become the forgotten adventure for me to find the next time! How fun! Perhaps I have been lost already and we can go together to find me, hmmmm? Shireth bugled loudly, clearly pleased with the very idea. How clever of Moirath to have noticed what perhaps he had not!

Ever so pleased to follow after her, he nearly threw himself right into the water, perhaps eagerness, perhaps knowing his limits so precisely that he knew just how close he could get before ducking away again. As he pulled up and away from it again, however, he did a roll in the air, trilling with mirth and play as he did.

The lake was perfect! Cusnth mimicked Moirath's movements, though first he tilted one way and then spun the other, letting both wingtips brush the water. As it spattered his hide, he shined even more--maybe even enough to bother his opponents, he hoped.

< Watch me sparkle, watch me shine! Just a little closer and you'd be mine! > he chanted, taken by her way with words. So was his way: always adjusting to try and fit in. What was the saying? Copying someone was flattering? Close enough.

Roll Dexterity plus Cunning

Moirath could feel the need to make these males prove themselves and she began climbing but at the same time rolling and doing tricks. It was hard to track where she was headed. She did a particularly interesting flip and ended up going at a right angle to where she had appeared to be going. Don’t veer off or you’ll be lost! Moirath teased. Even she was too focused to come up with things to say right then. This was so much fun! She would have to do this again sometime.

NPC BROWN YIHOTH

I'm not plannin' on getting lost. Don't you worry none about that.
Yihoth's goal was to offer her gentle reassurance, a warm kind of welcoming comfort that Moirath just might find appealing enough to choose--if he remembered right, this was her first flight, and she deserved all the best he could offer. He was feeling fairly confident about the whole thing, even, going so far as to show off just a touch. With a low rumble, Yihoth leaned into a slow, surprisingly graceful barrel roll, using the maneuver to change directions to match her. His flight style was far less intricate and energetic than hers, but it would certainly do in a pinch.

Moirath, sweetheart, you're keepin' us all on our toes. You've got all the fancy flyin' down pat, that's for sure.
