To say she was suspicious of these new cats was an understatement. That was one of the reason she didn't even allow any into her own clan. Letting in soft cats that would weaken Riverclan didn't make sense.
Brightstar let them in, so there was that. They were lucky they had a far better leader in that regard. Evenso, this practice battle was a chance to see what the other cat was made of. "Alright, lets see what you can do. This is a friendly battle, no claws to eyes." Would this cat even know how to fight?
Time to find out, the Riverclan leader launched herself at the other cat.

Blackstone hadn't planned on any of this, especially not this trial by battle induction. She surely wasn't going to beat Shadowstar, but she at least had to try and show off her strength. What strength? She thought woefully, remembering the days of leisure, cat n** and endless caresses in a warm home.
Totally lost in thought, she took the full brunt of Shadowstar's attack. "I deserved that." She cursed her brain for not focusing. This could be the end of her days of wandering the woods, or it would be a painful start to another month of scavenging and endless trails. Blackstone puffed her chest out and threw her claws towards the side of Shadowstar.

Shadowstar hardly felt the attack, but it was better than her turning tail and running. Points over monarchstride. Shifting her paws she commented, "There is another one like you in Lightnging, calls himself a champion or whatever that is. He'd run when challenged. I like you better already." Can't let the compliment go to the other cat's head.
To ensure that didn't happen, Shadowstar took off on one of her signature body blows to slam into the other cat's left flank.

(Everything looks great, besides the name, she is fighting Shadowstar not Brightstar, though she would be honored to be confused with the other leader)

She could see that her attack was barely a tap to Shadowstar. She needed to toughen up, and fast. It was clear that the only way she would ever survive would be through strength. "Another one like me?" Blackstone was confused, somehow knowing that champions do not run. A memory from being with humans, she supposed.
And again lost in thought, she felt every muscle as Shadowstar slammed into her flank. Air rushed from out of her lungs in an audible gasp, and she choked for air as she took a step back but continued to circle near. "I'm pretty tired of running."
Running out of steam, she pushed her self forward with her back paws, aiming for Shadowstar once again.

With a short nod, Shadowstar took the time out of the battle to explain a little, "Yes, he isn't like the rest of the clan cats. Talks more about his pelt then contributing anything positive to the world. He came to the clan not knowing about the Starclan," She couldn't fault him on not knowing about the Forestclan, no cat did until that battle.
"There is more to surviving here than battle, far more to learn. You have some fight in you, you might just make it." Blackstone's attack hardly ruffled her fur, certainly didn't stop her from talking. However, she let the moment sit before reaching up and bopping the other cat in the head. She'd have to learn to hit harder than that!.

The pitiful kitten scratch she threw at Shadowstar obviously did not phase her one bit. Shadowstone felt betrayed by her own paws, although it may have been the fear of even fighting. She would debate that later as she took off to lick her wounded ego.
Shadowstar's words were soothing for some reason, giving her hope where she felt she had none. And just like that the moment of tranquility was gone as she felt Shadowstone's paw make contact with her head. She saw stars in her green eyes and knew that she couldn't go on.
"I thank you for this teaching moment. But I must be off." With a quick nod, Blackstone turned and darted off into the woods. Maybe one day when she was stronger she would meet Shadowstar again.
