There was absolutely no cat Shadowsong was prouder of or cared for more than the shecat she was facing. If they never practiced again and Flamedapple really did stay with Lightning, Shadowsong could rest easier knowing this cat could more than take care of herself!
Chirping in greeting, the mentor made her first move against the apprentice that had long since earned the right to no longer have that title. Now it was more a legacy 'title' of affection, and pride.

Always with the tough blows, Flamedapple should have been expecting that from her mentor but instead she found the 'greeting' to have taken the wind out of her sails. Half smiling, Flamedapple toughened up for her kittens and struck back.

Shadowsong might have stumbled over a bit more than that blow deserved, encouraging Flamedapple came too naturally. Giving a few tips on better approaches, Shadowsong went right into demonstrating a more complicated one invoving shoulder bumping the other cat off to get to the underside of ribs

Somehow Flamedapple managed to avoid most of that blow and the pain was lessened. She stopped focusing on her blind eye and let her other senses take over, listening to where Shadowsong would be next.

Shadowsong managed to dodge most of the attack. What was remarkable is she was actually trying to dodge it. That earned swift praise for landing the blow. Sure it wasn't a hard hit but that wasn't the point, Flamedapple hit her when she was trying to be stealthy!
Well then, lets try dodging an attack!

The power of that clip caught her off guard causing her to spin out away from Flamedapple. Blinking, she almost purred if it weren't for the fact that this was supposed to be a serious practice battle. Shaking it off, she got her head back in the game and went for another pass.

That was another good solid hit, Shadowsong praised Flamedapple for the great show of power. She also had to get one more boop in before ending the fight for the day. Any cat other than herself would have a real problem taking on Flamedapple and even she was having trouble with it.
