Since the dog's attack on RockClan, Darktail had been itching for a fight. His claws came out any time he was eating LightningClan prey (he greatly missed the taste of fish from the river) or when a LightningClan cat looked at him funny. He had done "practice" battles with other cats, both within his Clan and not, under the guise of wanting to keep his wits about him. However, he always fought hard when he did these battles. However, nothing was satisfying to him.
He had briefly considered the possibility that maybe he needed to do something other than fight with other cats to take the edge off. He didn't consider it for too long, but today the thought was sticking around more than usual. It had sent him out into the forest to skulk about. He didn't want to be here. He wanted to be home and do regular border patrols, getting himself into the usual, exciting skirmish. Playing nice like they were in the LightningClan camp... It was making him more than a little stir crazy.
Walking through LightningClan's territory, among the trees made him feel more irate. He wanted to go back to the river... Maybe that would make him feel better... Or maybe it would make things worse.
"Only one way to tell." He grumbled and was turning that way when he scented another nearby. His body becoming alert, he scanned the trees. It smelled familiar, perhaps one of his actual Clan mates instead of LightningClan for a change. Tracking the scent, he was brought up short before he collided into the cat it belonged to. "Oh! Shadowsong." He said, recognizing the she-cat. He gave her a half-smile. "Were you tired of being cooped up too? I was going to take a stroll towards the river, if you'd care to stretch your legs with me." He offered.

Sounds of paws around her set alert but not overly tense. One day stalking through the Lightningclan territory would not be this comfortable. Unfortunately, that would probably come after some embarrassment. The sound of her name put a pause in her step. Looking back towards the sound, scent set her at ease. There is a slight concern that Jaggedstar would send someone after her. It was irrational, but the thought did raise the fur down her back.
Darktail's presence set her at ease. Raising her tail in return greeting, she responded, "Of course!" Between the two of them, very little could threaten them. Whiskers raised, she offered a challenge to the tom, "Silver fish season is here, think you remember how to catch them?" Chuckling, the shecat could almost taste the fish.
Her friends were always better fishers than she, but the challenge and the company would motivate her enough to make up for it.

"Lets make sure we are still Rockclan!" Chuckling deep enough to purr, the eager shecat kept the pace towards home. No Rockclan cat ever drowned in that river, as the story goes, until they were ready to join the Starclan.
Her eyes rose to the sky at that thought, Starclan. Bunch of celestial cats wiping out her whole clan with Jaggedstar and Hollowstep helping them along. Flicking her ear, she remarked, "They might chastise us for leaving the 'safety' of Lightning clan." Her ears went flat at that statement. Everything Jaggedstar did was out of fear, lack of trust of Rockclan warriors.
Scary thing was it was working.
Ears moving forward at the sound of rushing water, the shecat almost whooped, "We''ll remind all of Rockclan what we are missing, what we have given up. Well past time to go home!" Thought of the kits and apprentices came to mind.
To be honest, she had no idea if Flamedapple could even swim any more. Kits born in the Lightning clan had never scented the river, wouldn't have the connection the rest of them had. Thankfully, she was lucky enough to have Darktail with her. If there was any cat in the world to help her fix it, it was him.

Darktail was pleased by the acknowledgement that Shadowsong gave him. He so rarely felt as though anyone ever listened to what he had to say. To have her listen to him, it felt... good. He raced along beside her and when they arrived at the edge of the river, he looked out onto it and sighed. It had been too long since he had been near their old territory.
He wasn't able to admire it for long, before Shadowsong had spoken. He turned to her as she spoke, his eyes narrowing in thought.
"For all intents and purposes, one would call Jaggedstar the leader." He said, but he frowned. "Though, he hasn't been acting very leaderly, lately." He added and sighed. "We're fortunate that the Leader's word isn't all that the Code is, else one could consider RockClan little more than a group of rogues, with all the speaking Jaggedstar's been doing lately." He said with an eye roll.
"Maybe if I stick a silver fish down his throat, it will remind him how to talk like a leader again." He joked with a shrug. "Shall we?" He asked as he padded towards the river, glancing over the shore to seek out shadows beneath the rushing water.

Darktail listened closely to what Shadowsong had to say about Brightstar's actions versus Jaggedstar's and he nodded his agreement. "I suspect Flamedapple is relieved by the fact too." He remarked. Maybe Brightstar would have stepped in to name Flamedapple, if Jaggedstar hadn't been able to. Then again, thinking of the polite, withdrawn leader, perhaps not. She never seemed the type to step on any toes, which kept the peace, but also irritated Darktail. Didn't she have any opinions of her own? Neither clan leader was perfect, that much was obvious.
Shaking his head to clear his thoughts of the matter, he looked at Shadowsong as she spoke again. "I'm always up to coming back here." He found himself purring his reply. "Especially with you." He had said it before he realized it, but rather than looking away, he met her gaze and smiled at her. He enjoyed her company, he'd realized. "Maybe if we keep coming back here, they'll give us back Temptation Rocks, too." He said, thinking fondly of the rocks in the river. "They were always RockClan's, anyway. We're the cats that actually go out into the water. I can't imagine why LightningClan would want to keep it."
He followed her out onto the rocks, surprising himself by how steady he found himself on the slippery stones. He leaped onto a rock two tail lengths away from where Shadowsong was perched and then looked out into the rippling surfaces, looking for the silvery darting fish that were sure to make an appearance, eventually.

She'd give Jaggedstar one thing, the name Flamepaw received a good name. That kit earned her place and proved their clan proud. What was left of it.
Ah good. A partner in this journey would make things safer. The two of them could take any stray mutt still infesting their territory. He was probably a good fisher too. Though, she thought with a smile as she watched him, this would be the time to find out if that assessment is true. "We'll clean out our home, and bring a piece of it back." Home, clan, future. Thats a lot to put in the place across the river and the fish. That was okay, Rockclan could handle even more than that. The river never let their clan down, either. So, they just had to live up to what made them.
Looking up at the rocks, her ears swiveling, her serious expression broke into a snicker. He got her with that last comment, "I can't imagine Lightningclan being brave enough to even get out there. I don't think I've seen one even try to swim." A far cry from their own clan, swimming and walking were both as natural and as graceful.
Returning her eyes to the water, she watched as the river became familiar again. They hadn't been away that long, but it was long enough. Rather than jump at the first decent fish, Shadowsong remained still and took the time to really get to know the water again. Would be rude not to reintroduce herself to the River.
