Quote: There are many parties and celebrations going across town; for whatever reason, you are in a part of town where live music is playing and everyone is dancing all around. You lock eyes with someone in the crowd and, in all the movement, the crowd winds up pushing you together. Whether intentional or accidental, you get one dance together before you are separated. Was this person someone you know or a complete stranger and, did you want the dance or did you try to escape it? --Will you ever find each other again afterwards? Ciel found herself walking down a busy city street, music filled the night air. There were people all around her dancing and having fun. She couldn't help but smile at the carefree people around her.
She loved this time of the year, and not just because of her own connection to the stars. She loved the decorations, the spirit of revelry, the chance to forget about the war even if only for a night.
As she watched the crowd her eyes landed on someone she had not expected to see tonight. Her smile brightened ten fold as she met the beautiful purple eyes of her girlfriend. She made her way through the crowd of dancers towards her.
"May I have this dance."

Carlee hadn’t anticipated seeing Ciel tonight. Honestly, she hadn’t really anticipated getting herself stuck in a throng of partying people…but in this city…
Well. You never could truly tell what was going to happen.
The brunette had felt a slight flutter when she had seen the other pair of purple eyes looking at her through the crowd, and for a brief moment, she almost hurried out of the area, though the crowds made that impossible, and suddenly there Ciel was, smiling and looking far too beautiful to be ignored.
Swallowing hard, Carlee nodded and held her arms out to the taller girl, feeling a wave of guilt wash over her. The thoughts she had been having lately…
Did she even deserve this happiness?
“…You can always have this dance, Ciel. Who am I to stop you?”

"You are the most beautiful and brilliant girl I have ever seen, that is who you are." Ciel said with a giggle as she took Carlee into her arms starting to move to the music with her.
"I'm glad I got to see you tonight." She said happily. "The stars have truly blessed me if they lead me here."
"Est-ce que ton père a été un voleur? Parce qu’il a volé les étoiles du ciel pour les mettre dans tes yeux." She said in a playful tone with a lovely look into her girlfriends beautiful eyes.

“Oh…ah…” Carlee nodded, unable to keep the eye contact for more than a few seconds. “Ditto…It’s always nice to see you too.” She fell quiet and looked away as the other girl said something in French. “Ah…um…thanks?” The brunette had no idea what was said, but the whole thing made her feel even more uncomfortable than she had before.
“…I um…hope you’re doing well. We haven’t seen one another for a while it feels like…” It did more than feel like, but she was unable to just come out and say that.
“…You ah…You look really good, you know. But you always do so that’s really nothing new…and I’m sure you’ve heard it all before…”
Carlee swayed in time to the music and finally sighed. “…It’s really crowded here isn’t it? I…I don’t know what’s going on with me but…” She gave a laugh, looking away. “…I can’t stand crowds anymore…”

"I'm sorry ma chérie, I've been learning to take over my grand father's business and its taking up alot of my time plus well you know what my nights are like." She said an apologetic look on her face. "But I promise you once thats all done we'll spend more time together."
A worried look crossed Ciel's face, her girlfriend seemed so out of sorts. She took her hand and gently lead her through the crowd until they were at an empty side street.
"What's wrong Carlee? You can talk to me." She promised, she wasn't sure it it was their relationship, something in her home life, or something in her powered life. But if Ciel could make it better she wanted to.

Carlee wrinkled her nose when they were finally away from people and gave what almost passed for a smile. “Oh um. I’m not sure what’s wrong. I just…have been jumpy a lot lately. It hasn’t really been fun.” She still couldn’t meet Ciel’s eyes and gazed down at the ground, her head turned slightly to the side.
“Hey…I still…don’t really get why you bother so much with powering up. Does it even…do anything really? Like, you keep almost dying…and why do you try to push yourself after that…like…that time in the hospital Ciel…that really freaked me out, and I’m still not sure I’m over it. Yeah I know what your nights are like, but I don’t understand why…”
The girl closed her mouth quickly and just shrugged. “I don’t know…I just…I guess I don’t understand you anymore…or something…I just feel…weird all the time now…and everything has me uncomfortable…”
She wished the words unsaid as soon as they were out and felt tears stinging her eyes. "...I...I should go..."

Ciel frown, a bit taken back by Carlee's words. It her a moment to gather her thoughts. She started to reach out for the girl but stopped dropping her hand. She took a deep breath.
"Carlee I....you know that my parents are gone, right? But I don't think I ever told you how they died. They were killed by a Youma when I was 14. I left I was mad at my dad, I don't even remember the reason why but I wanted some fresh air. That....that thing broke into my house after I had left. My parents were powerless against it, by the time I got back all I found was it standing over their mutilated bodies. I'll never forget that image and I'll never forgive myself for not being there, I could have destroyed that youma if I had been there. I ran away after that, I spent days up on wonder wishing I could just wake up from the nightmare. I'd even contemplated ending it all, but in the end I realized it would be even worse if I gave up like that, I could never face my parents in the Cauldron like that. So instead I made promise, to myself and to my parents, that I would keep fighting I would do everything in my power to keep anyone else from having to go through that." She explained as she looked at the ground. She felt a lump in her throat just thinking about.
"I fight because even if I make little difference in the grand scheme of things if I can stop a youma or officer from doing that to even one other family then I have a purpose. If that hurts you then I am sorry, so very sorry but I can't stop, I am Hyperborea before I am Ciel." Her voice was shaking by the time she finished, she knew she might be pushing Carlee away but she couldn't lie she could never stop fighting.

Carlee stared at Ciel, frowning and feeling some guilt and horror welling up inside of her…though…
“…I mean. I get why you fight, that’s fine and all…but Ciel…?” She looked away, rubbing her face and finally managed to force herself to look back at the taller girl. “…Do you think about the consequences? We were in the middle of a hospital. There are sick and dying people there…if you had powered up…”
She shook her head, going a little pale. “Don’t you think that would have attracted youma there? We…Julienne, the cat that stays with me a lot, she says that youma are really attracted by order signatures, and yours is really strong…you…can you think of what might have happened? Number one, you, hooked up to all of those machines and monitors would have just vanished into lord knows where, and started a huge panic! And then youma could have come to attack the hospital after feeling you in here…and there are so many people here and…”
The teen swallowed hard. “…You lost your parents to a youma…I…how could you want to put others in danger from that same fate by being the beacon that leads them somewhere? If you’re going to power up…it should be somewhere that you know you’re alone…not…not in a hospital bed…Not when you’re surrounded by people that have no way at all to defend themselves…”

Ciel was socked by Carlee's words. She took a step back from her. Where on earth was this accusation coming. She had no clue how Carlee could think she would be so callow and careless with her powers. A look a pain and anger crossed her face.
"What in Cosmos' name makes you think I would ever do something so stupid. Do you think I haven't learned anything in my 4 years of being a knight? That I am unware of my aura." She tried to control her voice but it was shaking as tears of frustration burned her eyes.
"You really think I would ever make the same mistake. I always make sure an area is safe before I power up.....Fine you know what if I'm so dangerous to be around then maybe I shouldn't be near you." She snapped tears threatening to break free and a betrayed and angry look in her eyes. She turned to leave.

Carlee raised her brows and looked frustrated and somewhat confused as Ciel turned to go. “Fine. If that’s how you want to twist my words, then fine.” She took a few steps backwards, a deep frown on her face. “I don’t…understand you, Ciel. You are the one who said you wanted to just go up to your wonder while we were in the middle of the hospital, not me. You are the one who didn’t seem to have any regard for anything. Don’t you dare turn this around on me, that is not fair.”
Carlee was shaking her hands balling into fists and the frustration and confusion and bad feelings from the past few months coming to a head, and finally the brunette broke into a run, just wanting to get as far away as possible.
If there was a reset button, she would push it. If there was anything to be done to just change everything, she would do it.
The tears began to fall with fury as she finally got out of the crowd and as she made her way home, she didn’t even try to fight them.
