True to its name, this time of year is unnaturally clear and it’s incredibly easy to see the stars. They sparkle with more colors and vibrancy than usual. Sometimes you can see odd lights, but everything is so far away it's hard to tell what's real and what's an illusion, but it's a magical and overwhelming sensation all the same. Every year there is a meteor shower at this time, and this year is no different; the sky is full of shooting stars, so now's the perfect opportunity to find a dark place to watch the stars and make a wish! Whatever wish you make, you wind up having the most surreal dream of it being granted. What did you wish for--and what direction did your dream take? What happens when you wake up to reality?

Pat was out late, he had been out with buddies. They had been drinking, Pat sat out since he was technically the designated driver. More like the uber driver GPS, he was the one who made sure the three other guys got back to their respective places, and significant others, safely before he got home himself. The problem was that he wasn’t tired by the time he got back, so rather than just veg out in front of the tv Pat slipped out onto his apartment building’s roof. The space was set up for the residences and most used the area as a sort of ‘courtyard’. A courtyard four stories in the sky with benches, a small fire pit, and various plant containers for the more green thumbed among the residences.

As he lounged on one of the worn benches the tall redhead noticed a streak of light flash across the darkened sky. A shooting star! As his purple gaze turned to the heavens more and more stars flew across the clear night sky. “Oh! That's right, the news said there would be a meteor shower tonight,” the man muttered quietly as the stars continued along their bright path. He vaguely remembered that morning’s news that informed the city residences about the celestial phenomenon, Pat had not really paid it any mind. He hadn’t been planning to watch it occur. It was just a coincidence that brought him up here, one he was thoroughly enjoying right then. The cool night air, the distant murmur of the city, and the pretty lights flickering above him. What more could someone ask for?

Maybe a beer but that would require getting up, something Pat wasn’t really up for right then. It was just too relaxing to move right then. It required too much effort. Besides he was out of beer anyway so it wouldn’t do him any good to get up. So the tall man just sat there enjoying the night, his face turned up to the stars, his mind wandering. I wish everyday was like this, he absently wished even as his eyes grew heavy and a yawn tugged at his mouth. He blinked and settled a bit lower on the bench, his legs stretched out in front of him. Sleep tugged at him even as he silently amonished himself, he needed to get up and go down to his apartment. He shouldn’t sleep on the roof. He would regret it, and yet his eyes still slid shut even though he knew better.

He sunk deeper asleep even as his mind slipped into dreams, dreams that were basic repeats of the day. Morning, breakfast. Afternoon, work. Night, drinks with buddies. And finally sitting on the roof dozing off only to be repeated the ‘next day’. He lived a groundhog day type day over and over again in his dream, not thinking much of it at first but as the ‘days’ progressed Pat became more and more agitated. It all felt off. Nothing in life was this perfect and besides without the complicated parts of life it was harder to enjoy such blissful days. He did not like it. Something was wrong.

He woke with a start when he was splashed by something. It took him a moment to realize it was starting to rain, he was getting wet as the light sprinkle got heavier and heavier as the moments passed. The meteor shower was done… or at least obscured by the clouds and it was past time for Pat to go inside. The man scrambled up and quickly made his way indoors, pausing only once he was under cover, purple eyes glancing back at the rain filled sky.

Today really had been a good day, but he wasn’t so eager to repeat it again anymore. A day like it sure… but the same day exactly? Pat mentally shivered even as he silently added, No, freaking, thank you! Once was enough.
