Territory
The Mountains Where the Moon Lives
There are several prominent peaks in this range, with the pack referring to them collectively as ‘The Mountains Where the Moon Lives’. Narrow, treacherous passes and hidden caverns cut through their rocky slopes and ridges. Patches of snow and ice cling to the steep faces, and occasionally fall during avalanches or melt during the summer into the glacial valleys below, creating the sources of rivers and lakes in the area. Glacial flooding, rockslides, avalanches, winter storms and blizzards are the most severe occasional hazards. Geothermal activity is also present.

 The Valley
This valley is home to the majority of the wolves and marks the beginning of the pack’s territory. The area features alpine grasslands studded with lichen-covered boulders, few trees, and ribbon-like creeks of meltwater that collect into an alpine lake. From here, one can view the stunning landscape of the forests and foothills of the Bluestone below, as well as the imposing steep ascent of the mountain range behind.
The Treeline At the very edge of the valley, the timberline on the higher mountain ridges is sudden - coniferous trees here are starved and far-spaced, and fierce, icy gusts have stripped or deformed the windward branches. Further down the slopes, the winds gradually relent to give way to a more dense forest with a closed canopy. In these boreal forests is where the majority of the pack’s hunting is done, and also where many of the non-wolf members choose to take up shelter. Inspiration: [ x] [ x] [ x] [ x]
The New Moon Gate The lowest point in the sloping, glacial valley, just north of the treeline, is marked by an ancient stone moon gate - the ceremonial entrance to the packlands and a popular rallying point. At the far end of the The New Moon Gate is a lake of frigid meltwater from the valley’s resident glacier; the lake gives origin to smaller crisp creeks and a great river that flows down past the treeline. The Underbelly A network of ice caves beneath the glacier - referred to as ‘The Underbelly’ - can be accessed only from hidden crevasses and deep near-vertical shafts near the lakeshore. Many pack members make their dens in the eerie blue glow of the hollowed-out passages, and the common-ground dens used as whelping dens, medic bays, and storage holds are found here as well. No one is sure how far the caves extend, or how many entrances and exits there are. Inspiration: [ x] [ x] [ x] [ x]

 The Pass
A winding route has formed one of the few known passes through ‘The Mountains Where the Moon Lives’, leading northward between a tall pair of twin peaks, named ‘Silverhorn’ and ‘Everwhite’. The ascent’s remoteness and navigational difficulty helps guard against attacks from outsiders. When traversing the gates in the pass, one should be alert to the signs of mountain hazards, such as avalanches, icefalls, and flash floods.
The Crescent Moon Gate The steep and rocky valley walls and the shorter spines that connect to the Everwhite mark the area of the Crescent Moon gate. Boulders and sheets of ice and snow have fallen from above, where they have broken and dusted the grasses with stones and swathes of shifting gravel. Larger stones stand like monoliths on the steppes and cliffs, slippery with lichen, allowing for superb vantage points of the New Moon gate. Basic training often takes place here, where warriors work on their agility and stamina. Inspiration: [TBD]
The Half Moon Gate A vast, glacial expanse dominates the view and paints the mountain in a stark scene of white and icy blue, its icy tongues reaching into smaller ridges and peaks and beneath snowfields. The surface of the glacier is broken and sharp, fractured with many ever-changing crevasses, making traversing this area very difficult and extremely dangerous. Falling into a crevasse is often fatal - they can be very deep and nearly impossible to climb out of, are quickly hidden by snowfall, and can suddenly collapse. Advanced training maneuvers are held here, focusing on quick decision-making and teamwork. Inspiration: [TBD]
The Near Moon Gate Through a narrow slip in the chaotic, upturned icefall, the entrance to the Full Moon gate is hidden — and heavily guarded. Arches of blue ice hang from ridges that erupt from all sides, creating a chasm that opens into a much calmer, snow-covered depression. The Peaks
The watchful faces of the Everwhite and Silverhorn guard the top of the pass at the Moongate. Each year around the solstices, the rising and setting moon aligns with the profiles of the peaks, lighting the stage for the Moongate’s major gatherings. Beyond the gate, the descent is steep and turbulent, clouded in monstrous blizzards. Black pine forests cover the lower slopes and are constantly choked by a dense, eerie mist that completely obscures the path to the Waylands that fall beyond.

The White Hall The higher ranking members of the pack take refuge in a large, deep cavern of the Everwhite, protected from the bitter cold and wind. [More to come...]Inspiration: [TBD]
